61  Economy / Exchanges / Re: mtgox.com has blocked my account with 45 000 USD in it! on: February 24, 2011, 11:50:52 PM
This whole thing amazes me.

If I lost an honest $45,000 to MtGox, I would be the first to find an attorney and start with the legal guns blazing.  Assuming I had $45k to blow around on BTC in the first place.  Someone who is resourceful enough to have $45k for Bitcoins is probably resourceful enough to engage counsel in a foreign jurisdiction when the law is on their side.  I wouldn't even dream of coming to a forum and trying to argue a case that big...

...unless I had stolen the money and had no other options.

You are forgetting, that for Baron 45,000 USD is nearly nothing. Wink

I never said that.

Think again.
lawyers will cost much more than those 45 000 USD, also it will cost minimum 6 months of investigation.

According to baron:
Quote
meet man in IRC who offer me to make deal, he send me ~9000$ BTC I send him ~3000$ liberty reserve (simple trade)
Guy in IRC sends money to: 1DVQEpTFjxYpZMVy4Bam9MCxeGEtmMmQCh (First seen: 2011-01-07)

Let's just name this address the "red wallet".

Red Wallet:
This is the wallet where scammer sent money.
Balance:
BTC: 9 506.33

Transactions:
2011-01-07 01:01:26 - 100 BTC (in) ------> Receives money from his green wallet Oooppss... we have a link!
2011-01-07 01:01:26 - 100 BTC (out) ----> Sends money to his green wallet Oooppss... we have a link!
2011-01-07 02:49:29 - 3134.8 BTC (in) ---> From scammer
2011-01-08 10:27:16 - 3174.6 BTC (in) ---> From scammer
2011-01-09 10:47:30 - 3096.9 BTC (in) ---> From scammer

Green Wallet:
This address was used to receive money from mtgox. It first appeared a day before the 9000 btc transaction that came into the red wallet. This confirms the story so far.
Balance:
BTC: 4 692.64

Transactions:
2011-01-06 23:57:14 - 0.05 BTC (in) ----> The free money faucet probably
2011-01-07 00:55:03 - 100 BTC (in) -----> From mtgox I assume.
2011-01-07 01:01:26 - 100 BTC (out) ----> Test spend to the red wallet Oooppss... we have a link!
2011-01-07 01:20:01 - 120 BTC (in) -----> From mtgox?
2011-01-07 01:35:57 - 3057.6 BTC (in) ---> From mtgox?
2011-01-20 22:02:26 - 400 BTC (in) ------> From mtgox?
2011-01-22 11:25:47 - 1015 (in) --------> From mtgox?

Now that it's obvious and crystal clear how mtgox linked those account, the first question that comes to my mind is, why is the trade transactions with guy on IRC spread accross 3 different days? Did you not trade it all at once? And if not, you must have gone back to the IRC channel at least 2 times, correct?

If you had to go back to IRC twice after the first trade, how is it possible to not remember either:
1. Channel name
2. Your nick
3. Scammers nick

And why is there absolutely no browser history from 7th of January 2011 that you can use to refresh your lost memory?

EDIT: sorry I got some transactions mixed up, working on it

In that days I was using IRC, I said that. About other you statistics please wait I need to examine, I will post reply.
64  Economy / Exchanges / Re: mtgox.com has blocked my account with 45 000 USD in it! on: February 24, 2011, 11:34:09 PM
maybe someone can tell me how it's possible to steal BTC money ?  I want be safe, but I don't know from what I need to protect (exclusive trojan, viruses).
65  Economy / Exchanges / Re: mtgox.com has blocked my account with 45 000 USD in it! on: February 24, 2011, 11:30:07 PM
Baron,

That function prevents other people to know how much you've on your wallet. Because bitcoin registers every transaction if you use always the same it's possible, by reading the block chain, to know how much you've in your address/wallet.
So, by generating a new Address it's not impossible, because if you movement your coins it's possible to know at which address they were previously, but much harder for a stranger to know your BTC current balance.

Thank you for information.

I don't see any problems that someone can see how much I have in bitcoin client. but it's not normal that strangers can know how much you have in pocket.

8. After month after trade was made (with man from IRC) I noticed that my mtgox.com acount is blocked.
9. Mtgox.com starting asking from where I get those 9000$ BTC, I explained.

After the deal with the stranger, have you done any BTC deposits to your mtgox account?

No.

How exactly did mtgox refer to the 9000$ BTC in question, in their inquiry?

He blocked my mtgox.com account, and started asking from where i received 9000$ , I explained him.

Did you specifically generate a new address for that transaction (deal with the stranger), and have you ever used that same address to receive bitcoins before or afterwards?

I was "playing" with bitcoin client , I created some addreses (curently I don't realy understand why there is function to create new addreses ). I was using one bitcoin address with mtgox.com and second for trade (with that man from IRC), to trace money income into my bitcoin client. I never used those addreses for any other activiti. I also have some more addreses in my bitcoin client, but they not in use.

I never used bitcoin client before I was registered on mtgox.com, it was my first time.
67  Economy / Exchanges / Re: mtgox.com has blocked my account with 45 000 USD in it! on: February 24, 2011, 11:18:35 PM
The use of $ and BTC together is very confusing. I am still not understanding if the 45000 USD is bitcoin or just LRUSD.

For what I understand: He had an account funded with 45.000 LRUSD on mtgox. Received last month 9000 BTC "flagged". Mt Gox by some reason block his account at expenses of those 9K BTC.

Correct

Baron seems quite forthright, gives you addresses to chase everything you asked for .... where's mt. gox now?

Are they going to be posting bitcoin addresses so we can verify their trades are only done with "honest money"... I don't think so.... its a big can of worms chasing the money trail ... there is no where to stop but blind accusations and madness ... its not worth it and it is not what bitcoin should be about. This is very destructive for bitcoin reputation.

But the story does not make sense. How could mtgox know that Baron received 9000 BTC to a private address? The only thing I can think of is that the coins were once owned by the exchange, and Baron used the same address to cash out of mtgox and receive the 9000 BTC.

I think someone  inform mtgox.com that his btc was stolen, and then mtgox.com starts  tracking stolen money through the block chain ( I don't know what that is ).

please see to first response to my thread :
He's probably tracking stolen money through the block chain, and you touched it at some point. If this is the case, then he is primarily interested in locating the person you received the money from.

Baron,

  May I suggest the following:

1. To comply with mtgox request to see scan of your passport (if there was such request).
2. Be prepared to explain origin of of any funds involved with documents to prove as much as possible (maybe not to mtgox but to authorities).
3. Talk to a lawyer in your jurisdiction and in mtgox jurisdiction, whatever it is. First consultation with a lawyer is often free.

  To bad we do not have any coherent statements from mtgox. Even something as simple as "we are acting in compliance with laws of such and such jurisdiction" would better than nothing, but obviously the more factual information is provided the better.

Appalling luck of mtgox public relation skills hurts all bitcoin community.

I am ready to send passport scan to lawyer , but not to mtgox.com , because I can't trust him anymore.
I was talking with mine lawyer he advice me solve this situation peacefully.

1. I register account on mtgox.com
2. I deposited small amont of funds from liberty reserve to mtgox.com for testing.
3. I deposited big amount of funds from liberty reserve to mtgox.com for starting trading.
4. I buy some k$ BTC in mtgox.com market, I withdraw some k$ BTC to my bitcoin account, to see how it works.
5. I countinue trading on mtgox.com market.

Just curious: in which block was this transaction (6) included?

sorry I don't understand your questions, please ask more widly. what blocks is?

We're attempting to verify that the transaction you described happened. If you could also give us the address that was used (since you don't ever have to use that address again), we could look it up that way.

I don't collect 45 000 USD worth of BTC.   this is USD balance in my mtgox.com account, to witch I deposited funds using liberty reserve.

Baron, if you want to convince us, I suggest you start at the beginning and explain in detail how you came into possession of large amounts of LRUSD and/or BTC. So far, I don't think you've done a very good job painting a coherent picture.

because someone sends to my bitcoin (not mtgox.com account) account stolen money.

What? That doesn't even make sense. Mtgox would not know that someone sent stolen Bitcoin to your non-mtgox address.

You should ask mtgox.com what he know and from where he knows. I don't know.

Not to mention that you would have to be an idiot to keep 45K in an on-line account that has no terms and conditions etc.

I see only 3 possible reasons:

You've a lot of cash, so 45K is nothing for you.
You think you found a great place to stash it (***eediot!***)
You're stupid.

EDIT: Here however there's something I've to give to mtgox. If a guy out of the blue puts 45K on my hand I would be over suspicious either. As a thing we use to say around: «When the dole is too big, the saint gets suspicious»

But mtgox said the transaction involved stolen BTCs, not USD; that's why I can't image how come he was able to collect 45K USD worth of BTC; unless some of it was legit.

Anyawy, I am sure mtgox has a very good reason for what he's doing and have a great deal of trust for him.

I offered to mtgox.com solution, I will send him those 3000 USD , and he will unblock my account.
Curently I don't received confirmation from mtgox.com that he is accepting with this solution.

sincerely I don't understand what is going on.

Also Now he is asking me that I send him passport scan.
Can you show me in mtgox.com website where is saying, that he could require identify check,by sending passport scans?
When I registered in mtgox.com from me was not requested to enter my name and surname, or other contacts, only emails.

Everyone must understand that I can't send passort scans to everyone who request. I am able to send passport scans only to banks,police or other serious institution.I don't really know who he is.
Does mtgox.com have any License to manage, require passport scans? Does mtgox.com have financial services and markets License(because he offering financial services he must have one )? I would be happy to see those licenses copys.

I am asking from mtgox.com to give me contact of man from who was stolen BTC, so I could find this problem solution with him.

Do you think you can get away for only 3000 USD and get other stolen money? I think, if you can so easy and fast give up with 3000 USD, then it's really some serious situation with it. Innocent man wouldn't give up with any sum, because he can prove it's case.

P.S. As you say, MtGox have no any License of financial institution, etc, so you trusted him money as is? You had to be more cautious operating such sums and now, you have no other option, than provide scans. So, urgently find passport with your account credentials )))))))))

I agree to send those 3000 USD back because:
1. I don't need stolen funds.
2. I don't want be involved in fraud.
3. I making money from money do you know what that means? That means that until my 45 000 USD is blocked, I don't earn any profit, and I am loosing much more than those 3000 USD. In January BTC rate was about 0.30/BTC, today rate is about 1/BTC  , do you see difference? now you can easy calculate how much I lose, definatly not 3000 USD.

why I deposited "so much" to mtgox.com account?
I don't think that it's "very much" .  How you imagine trading? trading with 100 USD or 1000 USD, how much you will earn profit from such trading portfolio? 10 or 100 USD per month . Maybe it's big sum for you, maybe you live somewhere in africa , where peoples  lifes from 100 USD per month? I focus on big profit, I don't waste time with dealing with small portfolio, because it's time wasting. I better go for walk with my girlfriend.

Also I know that I am not first and not last who operate with large than 10 000 USD sums in mtgox.com.

How I trusted him? because I don't see any signals that not to trust, I browsed all google and I not found any bad word about mtgox.com or somebody has problems with him.

You making me criminal just because I have more money than you? maybe you are robin hood, like in that story where who has money that is bad guy. Yes I liked that story, but it's not real life.
mtgox.com easily can send back money(liberty reserve) from where he received, there is no problem. I will go to other marketplace to trade, but definatly not bitcoin.
