@Zhou Tong  Would you please make a video of yourself telling the Bitcoin community how hard you are trying to resolve this bad situation.
Many people have difficulty with believing your are real when everyone admits they've never met you. Also, a sign with current date would be a help. We need to provide to the shady parts by bringing a little light into those spaces.

When people are acting retarded on a forum you just ignore them. I get ignored on occasion  Grin, and when I do I move on.

Your in a difficult spot, I hope it improves and the community can get back to more productive endeavors.

WTF! I just realized that I have 9-13 ignores. Is this telling me that all the earnest work that I am putting in to prove what this whole Bitcoinica thing is about is in vane?

I'm going to take a break from this for a few hours. I'm pretty sure that when I come back, I will be naming names. I've left clues out the ass hoping that others would pick up the mantle, but I guess that didn't work out so swell.

Later, all.

~Bruno~

I read it, though had trouble folling it. I did find the levitating woman hot.

It looks like Zhou Tong has a pantent. Quite a feat for a 17 year old.

again, this was not funny!! i assume the community will not deal with such situations like this!! we have enough work with ZT & Co.!!

What the hell you saying? Wasn't it obvious from the start what it was about?

guess not clear for all!

I heard sudoku is good to make your brain think logically. You should try it.
Logic is either valid or invalid, therefore all brains think logically. I do try it, my logical side didn't like it.  Tongue

How do you "fake" USD or LR on an exchange?
Can any outsider created nonexistent currency and deposit onto an exchange?

The funds that have been most recently recovered are being moved to a safer form of cold storage.
Patrick

This type of GCold storage?

I hope this turns out to be a good thing for the investors. What percentage do you expect will be restored and how much involvement will Intersango have in the process?

How does a 28" arrow shaft fly through the air and become a 36" arrow shaft? That was faked, it ain't real, there was no blood. Everybody knows when an arrow hits you you bleed, like a lot.
72  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "All cryptography is breakable" criticism on: July 30, 2012, 08:24:33 PM
I would just respond, "It's safe for less than whatever that amount of time is". If a vault can be cracked in a hundred thousand years, it's safe to store something in it for a few decades.

I don't believe the guy was talking about brute-forcing it, but finding a flaw in such algorithms. To me, he was implying that every cryptography algorithm has flaws, and it's just a matter of time before they are exploited.
I wanted to counter-argue on how unlikely it is to find such fatal flaws in any of the algorithms used in bitcoin.
There's no need, since he hasn't claimed that finding a flaw is likely. You can simply agree with him about every algorithm having flaws and it being just a matter of time before they are exploited. But it doesn't follow from this that it's unsafe. It's just a matter of time before a house gets hit by an asteroid. That doesn't mean houses are unsafe.

If the house deteriorates to dust before the asteroid strikes the spot where the house had been, is it still considered a win?

Then how did they crack this if reversing a hash is not possible?

Then why does the NSA hold a contest to see if anyone can find out what a file is composed of by cracking the hash?

SoftLayer, a global leader in cloud, dedicated and managed private hosting, runs on Global Crossing infrastructure, a leading global IP solutions provider. Global crossing provides dedicated 10 Gbps Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) ports for SoftLayer.

"Global Crossing provides services to enterprises (including approximately 40 percent of the Fortune 500); government departments and agencies; and 700 carriers, mobile operators and ISPs. It delivers converged IP services to more than 700 cities in more than 70 countries, and has 17 world-class data centers in major business centers around the globe."

Softlayer may not be the NSA, but Global Crossing might be.

Couldn't an attacker replace unknown inputs/variables with known inputs/variables, then all of the targets data which uses encryption from that point forward would be breakable by the attacker?

You mean predict the future?  The inputs will be unknown until they are known.

What the the prior block has for block 500,000?  Everyone will know once block 499,999 has been accepted by the network but there is no way for the attacker to predict the future and make the unknown inputs for block 500,00 known today.
No, I'm not talking about predicting the future. I'm saying an attacker gains access to a computer which is encrypting shit in sha-256. The sha-256 program is modded to make what is encrypted there after breakable by the attacker. Now when the encrypted material is intercepted it is trivial for the attacker to decrypt yet still appears to be valid sha-256 encryption. Maybe the code is modded so more collisions occur or some other innocuous change. If the user doesn't validate the code integrity the user will never know the mod exists.

Currently, the best public attacks break 41 of the 64 rounds of SHA-256 or 46 of the 80 rounds of SHA-512, as discussed in the "Cryptanalysis and Validation" section below.

There are two meet-in-the-middle preimage attacks against SHA-2 with a reduced number of rounds. The first one attacks 41-round SHA-256 out of 64 rounds with time complexity of 2253.5 and space complexity of 216, and 46-round SHA-512 out of 80 rounds with time 2511.5 and space 23. The second one attacks 42-round SHA-256 with time complexity of 2251.7 and space complexity of 212, and 42-round SHA-512 with time 2502 and space 222.

I have had an annoying hardware failure of one of the machines that provides data for p2pool.info behind the scenes.  Until I can rebuild this machine, it means p2pool.info may be intermittently out of action or inaccurate.
Your not the only one to have a hardware failure related to p2pool.

Bitpop --Had a motherboard problem.
twmz --What was your issue?
JayCoin --Attacker formatted HDD and stole ⊅ from his p2pool subpool.
check_status (me) --Was connected to Jaycoins pool, after the attack my motherboard wouldn't POST with the HDD connected. Removed the HDD and the motherboard POSTs fine.

The fact that p2pool.info is experiencing an issue, makes it difficult to prove how profitable p2pool is compared to other pools. How convenient.

Could someone connecting to the pool as a user use that in an attempt to hide unauthorized access, make it less suspicious.

@JayCoin
Are there any updates about the attack?
When was the backup which you did closest to the hack?
Are the backups stored offsite?
Do hosting companies make daily images for just such an occurrence?
What happened to the namecoins and other altcoins?

The ⊅10 is still just sitting there not moving. Greed wasn't the motivation.
http://blockchain.info/address/1FZuDJRYyKwStMzNQ4TLpkWUoQJGic5Hvi

JayCoin was already determining whether to shut down the pool, the attacker made the decision occur sooner.
The attack was meant to penalize this particular pools users.
JayCoin didn't seem that keen on using his own pool, this says to me he had little confidence in his own product, as he often mined elsewhere.

It would be nice to see this subpool live on, vive la p2pool!
