61  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: coinjedi / betsofbitco.in SCAMMERS: Declares "Push" on obvious win for BFL bet on: April 06, 2013, 09:10:43 PM
Yes, I can honestly deny that.
While I was vaguely aware there were bets going on, I don't and still have no reason to care about their terms or outcome.
If I were doing it to influence a bet, I would have posted it immediately, instead of as an afterthought 20 minutes after I posted them to my BFL-hosted blog.

So you are suggesting that it is pure coincidence that

1) You "received" your device some hours before the bet deadline (during Easter holidays)

2) You decided to write your post at about the deadline time (depending on time zone)

3) You felt the need to use the words "as of yesterday" and post pictures taken by somebody else

How convenient!
62  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: coinjedi / betsofbitco.in SCAMMERS: Declares "Push" on obvious win for BFL bet on: April 06, 2013, 05:31:17 PM
To actually answer your question, requires a great deal of defining: what is considered "proof of ownership" and what is the deadline? In the context of the bet (which I had/have nothing to do with), it seems "proof of ownership" was defined as "credible pictures" - so I would say that part is true; it also defines the deadline as the end of the day of April 1st, which my post was certainly before.
But again, this has nothing to do with me. I don't see how accepting my paid-for hardware, or posting pictures of it taken by BFL, makes me in any way a party to the bet or somehow a "scammer". That is complete nonsense.

Maybe you could take a couple of pictures of your device yourself and post them here, shouldn't take more than a few minutes. I mean, they did ship it to you, right?
63  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin address in Amazon customer's product reviews on: April 06, 2013, 04:14:28 PM
I would doubt that, assuming that they know what the address is for.

I appreciate the idea of getting tips for good reviews (if that's what you're thinking), but that would likely attract a lot of fakes trying to make money off the system.
64  Economy / Economics / Re: When or WILL the price come back down? on: April 06, 2013, 02:19:27 PM
Unfortunately some people are going to lose alot of money... its just a matter of when.

Maybe some people. As long as Bitcoin stays above $10, then I've still profited more than I ever though possible.

A lot of people are afraid of success, so when they're doing well they start to think that something disastrous has to happen soon. It's often a self-fulfilling prophecy, but I'm sure most Bitcoin adopters are smarter than that Smiley
65  Other / Meta / Re: BFL advertising with the old specs — Bait & Switch on: April 06, 2013, 02:13:16 PM
The ads are updated now.

You didn't comment on my thread about the same issue, but would you consider pulling your BFL ads, at least for until we know if the company is legit or not, or are you just happy that you're getting paid regardless of if the customers are getting screwed for thousands of dollars? Even if the specs are correct, the delivery estimates almost certainly are not.

[edit] Don't mean to sound like it's an accusation, more of a suggestion.
66  Economy / Gambling / Re: BlockBet.net - BTC Sportsbook - No account needed, bets up to 10 BTC accepted on: April 06, 2013, 01:54:13 PM
I think the max limit is what makes you one of the best, in my opinion. Obviously, if you're losing money because of it, then you'll have to lower the limit. But right now, you have the highest limit of any bitcoin book, and that's legit.

Another thing, you guys thinking about lowering those 20-cent lines in MLB? BitBook.biz has 15-cent, and bitcoinsports.eu has 10-cent, which makes you (essentially) the 3rd option.

Still diggin' the site, and I use you mostly every night. Keep it up!

Thanks for the tips. I won't be limiting it just yet, but it's something to consider if Bitcoin continues to increase. Even most million-dollar multinational gambling sites won't accept bets that amount to thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars, at least not without approval from much higher.

I won't be changing the MLB lines as long as I'm making a loss on them at current levels.

Horse bets 2morrow?

Honestly I have no knowledge of horse racing, maybe I'll look into it at some point though if it's a possibility. Thanks for the request anyway!

Not to grunch, but BTCSportsBet.com has the highest limits by far. 25-50btc depending on sport. Also the longest track record of any bitcoin book, Carry on.

Thanks for advertising in my thread instead of yours. Let me know when I can bet without registering or when you have more than a few betting options for a game. Stay classy Cusipzzz.
67  Economy / Gambling / Re: BlockBet.net - BTC Sportsbook - No account needed, bets up to 10 BTC accepted on: April 05, 2013, 06:15:01 PM
How are things going overall? Still making a profit?

When I saw that game going under 2.5 goals (guys couldn't score from anywhere, not even in the empty net), I already knew I was gonna take a big loss regardless of what happens in the other games. A lot of players have also been on a hot streak in the MLB and NBA games, so we're currently having a few consecutive days of losses, but that's what gambling is about - there will be ups and downs. We're not going bankrupt anytime soon even you guys keep winning, so no need to worry about that Smiley

I have thought about lowering the limit, since bitcoins were about 25$ a piece when we first started, but let's see a few more days on how it goes. I would like to keep it at 10 since it's a nice, round figure, but we'll see.
68  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I think I am going to withdraw my Bitcoin Kickstarter on: April 05, 2013, 05:38:44 PM
+1. Yep. Ignore the haters or people who think its expensive. $6k is not that much and you'll probably spend over 100 hours on this (and I'm not even including server costs/setup). All software project planning is guessing and kind of worthless, no matter how simple the app seems from the start; there are hidden costs and time sinks you will never know about beforehand (like this thread of holier than thous). You should get a decent pay out of this especially for the time and risk exposure. Everybody's a naysayer and wishes they could do it too. Let them. Talk is cheap, and so are cheap services and people who can say "I can do it cheaper." Just forge ahead despite the criticism.

I agree with the haters gonna hate comment. I disagree about the second part - investors aren't supposed to pay him salary so that he can work on his own project during his free time, especially when investors aren't getting back anything other than thank you's. He will have his salary paid once the project is finished (if it's any good). Of course it would be a bit different if the project would require many months of full-time commitment.

Another way to look at it is that an investor could pay him monthly salary + expenses, but then the end results (and profits generated) would belong to the investor.

I believe this is our biggest winner so far:

Boston Bruins vs New Jersey Devils - Under 2.5 goals @ 6.55x / +555

Result: 1-0

Bet: 10 BTC

Wins: 65.5 BTC

https://blockchain.info/tx/baf4bc40054268473f28e96fb475588433aff1de3198bc5ada8cf8d9f26917bd

Add that to the current market price, so yeah... Should be a nice start to the weekend whoever made that bet.
70  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I think I am going to withdraw my Bitcoin Kickstarter on: April 05, 2013, 12:14:56 PM
I think you should withdraw, if not now then maybe in a couple of days if it's not getting any additional backers. Having a project like this listed with $10 will not help Bitcoin or Kickstarter or you.

Again, I'm not trying to discourage you in any way, but you should get back to the drawing board and see if you could get it done without Kickstarter backing - as we've mentioned here it can probably be done for a lot less than what you're asking for, maybe you can pay for it yourself and you should be profitable in a few months. You will also learn a lot about iOS development in the process that will help you in the future, I'm sure you will find the information that you need online or from books for cheap if not for free.

If you want to get back on Kickstarter for a future project, you need to think about your goals more clearly. Especially the price needs to be the lowest price possible (remember that it can go well over that if people like it) and you need to explain where you're going to spend that money and why it is absolutely necessary. You can't just throw a random sum out there and see if people are willing to give you that (they aren't).

Good luck with this and your future projects.
71  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Kickstarter has approved its first Bitcoin Project on: April 04, 2013, 10:09:20 PM
I was planning on using http://www.inetu.net for webhosting =  $500/month ($6000 a year) for a dedicated server

Okay. I have no idea what kind of requirements you would have for a server, but that sounds pretty darn expensive - can't you do with anything less?

http://www.hostgator.com/dedicated

Even their most expensive package is $374/month, and you could probably start with a lesser package and upgrade if necessary.

I don't have sufficient knowledge about iOS development to comment on the rest, but I can tell you that the key to a succesfully funded project is to keep the costs as low as possible (unless you're a celebrity like Tim Schafer).
72  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Kickstarter has approved its first Bitcoin Project on: April 04, 2013, 09:33:41 PM
I appreciate what you're trying to do and hope you'll get it done one way or the other.

Can you please explain in more detail how you would use the money should the project be funded? Why does this project need the money that you're asking? Saying that you need almost 6k for "development" isn't clear enough.
73  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Truecrypt donations on: April 04, 2013, 04:40:16 PM
I'm too lazy to write, but if you point them to this thread then I should say that I'm gonna donate for a great software that is keeping my bitcoins safe.

[edit] Maybe should mention that it doesn't really matter if they believe in Bitcoin or not. They're welcome to exchange them for dollars as soon as the bitcoins reach their wallet.
74  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Can some one Clear up if a single BFL asic has been shiped or seen working on: April 04, 2013, 04:28:56 PM
Its like the site ADMINS/MODS one one hand lable people scammers, but then accept adds from them, or a least he people paying for adds are not scammers?Huh

I started a thread about this a couple of days ago, though this is probably something that should have been discussed months ago:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=163970.0

In my opinion Bitcointalk shouldn't run clearly fraudulent ads, no matter if they're getting paid or not.
75  Economy / Gambling / Re: Gambling; Bringing a higher EV to obtain BTC? on: April 04, 2013, 12:45:23 PM
Yes, it does make sense, I used to do that when I was younger (and to some extent, still do).

Let's say you want to buy something that costs 10 BTC, but you've only got 8. You could buy more bitcoins at an exchange, but you'd have to pay fees. You could maybe borrow bitcoins and pay interest. Or you could simply wait, but you don't want to.

Why not look for a game where you could quickly win that 2 BTC? You need to think a bit what kind or risk/reward suits your needs, but basically if you're willing to bet 6 BTC to win 2, you should have a high likelihood of winning and being able to buy your thing. You might bet on a good football team to win at home against a lesser opponent, that would usually be a likely outcome. If you lose, you lose. It's at least nice to be able to blame it on the players who couldn't score.

Of course this is not a good strategy for making important life decisions, but it can add a bit of fun and randomness in your life for smaller things. And as always, you should never bet with anything that you can't afford to lose.

[edit] In my example 10 bitcoins is nowadays a lot of money though, I just used it to simplify the process.
76  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is this Bitcoin's achilles heel? on: April 03, 2013, 10:59:09 PM
The problem is that if some guy manages to get 51% of all bitcoins in his hands (difficult, but possible), and bitcoin value sky rockets such that few satoshis are enough for living, that guy can buy your ass into life-time anal slavery for a tiny fraction of his assets.

Why would that be a problem, exactly? Is it wrong to be rich? That shouldn't affect the rest of us one bit.
77  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Negative Public Image on: April 03, 2013, 10:09:27 PM
Is there any proof of "money laundering for dictators"? Bullshit article and gotta wonder what her agenda is to write something so strongly worded. Also, I had no idea that I have to be online 18 hours a day to "maintain" my money, like it's gonna disappear if I'm away Shocked

[edit] Also, "hackers"? This woman still lives in a world where everybody who knows something about computers is a "hacker", making it sound like they're criminals.
78  Economy / Gambling / Re: BlockBet.net - BTC Sportsbook - No account needed, bets up to 10 BTC accepted on: April 03, 2013, 10:02:38 PM
Will you have exotic bets, like presidential elections?

What country? USA? Russia? You can have any odds and limits you want if you're gonna bet on somebody other than Putin to win Smiley

I'm open to suggestions but like I said, I'm generally against long-term futures since the currency moves so much, and the situations may change drastically while I'm sleeping etc.

I finally had a winning day and got even on the Lebron/Wade sitting routine.  Grin

Yeah no surprise that there was a lot of actions on the Knicks yesterday. I didn't want to drop their odds too low like some other betting sites, I figured that the Heat still have their chances since they beat the Spurs too with the same lineup. They did have the lead at half-time... Anyway I guess it's pretty even. Some guys had a pretty nice run on hockey and baseball yesterday as well, basically the only big game that let the players down was the Penguins who lost.
79  Other / Meta / Re: Stop accepting ads from BFL until they deliver? on: April 03, 2013, 06:06:33 PM
Also, you have to keep in mind their perspective.  From their perspective, back in June 2012, they were fully intending to have a working product shipping out in late October or early November.  Then, unexpected problems turned up.  With each successive push-back of the ship date, they were expecting to be able to ship on that ship date.  More unexpected problems kept getting in the way of them doing so.  Now, you could argue that they should have foreseen these problems, which is a reasonable argument, but it doesn't change the fact that they didn't foresee them and they were intending to ship at each of these given time periods.

I agree. Yet once they started realising that they're having problems delivering, the most sensible thing to do would be to stop taking preorders until they have it figured out. Also I wouldn't have any problems with this if the preorder was simply a place in line, pay once the product is ready to ship, but it is just incredible that all this time they just keep taking preorders when they clearly have no idea when, if ever, they can ship.

Bitcointalk is not BFL. They can't stop people giving money to BFL, but when they're running BFL's ads all this time without any questions asked, that basically makes Bitcointalk a partner in crime. Bitcointalk is accepting money from a company that is looking more and more like a fraud every month. I know running the forum isn't free, but there should be at least some concern on where the money is coming from.

All I'm saying is that maybe it's time to put the ads on hold until the issue is resolved. There will be plenty of other advertisers to take their place.
80  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: coinjedi / betsofbitco.in SCAMMERS: Declares "Push" on obvious win for BFL bet on: April 03, 2013, 11:39:18 AM
Theft, plain and simple. Really hope they don't get away with it.

(I had no stake in the bet)
