There is also logs for upstart in the /var/log directory. I have a modified version for both but they are on a machine I cant access at the moment, I will post them when I get home.

Put it in the background still with the -daemon flag
if it is syncing from scratch it will take two to 8 hours depending on connection speed and server speed.

much appreciate your feedback ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) thanks ... however am too much of a noob, or so it seems ... when I make a .bat file with -s it simply won't start the cgminer ... well it does but closes very quickly. I installed also linux mint but managed to get stuck with compilng the cgminer so as to work on it ... never had linux till now ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) mint works on debian... steep learning curve ... care for a nudge ? ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) Run it from the cmd line and check it works, before you put it in a .bat file ?

when you run bitcoind from the command line does it say blah@blah:~$bitcoind blah@blah:~$Bitcoind server starting
With the underscore cursor flashing underneath it ? If so bitcoind is running but in the fore ground. use bitcoind -daemon to put it the background, it will start syncing. bitcoind getinfo wont work straight away takes a couple of minutes specially on first run when its syncing.

Iam surprised they will let you run it on a shared host. Get a version built for centos 64bit with statically linked libraries and run it from your home directory. http://www.g-loaded.eu/2008/01/28/how-to-extract-rpm-or-deb-packages/ You should be able to extract the deb file and then untar the data files. if you cant do it on the host do it in a virtual machine in virtualbox.

Yes.
pushpool eloipool stratum-mining
in the custom hardware forum there are tutes for setting up eloipool and stratum-mining.
pushpool is getwork only and I am not sure if it supports version two blocks?
Most of the other pool software doesnt support version two blocks.

|
|
Try the first part of this tutorial, up to the bit where it says now for the pool software. Also just run bitcoind without the testnet flag.
There is not much information in your post. What version of Linux? How did you build it? Why did you put bitcoind in the .bitcoin folder ?

Blockchain is a very well connected node as well.

try which bitcoind
on the command line and see if there is more then one installed

Hi, I wanted to report an issue with Win8. I'm in the process of building several mining rigs with 7970s and the first one went flawlessly, with Win8. But I'm having all kinds of problems with the second rig. I can run cgminer or poclbm to mine SHA coins but cgminer/reaper will break when I try to mine scrypt coins. I have reinstalled drivers/sdk several times and even did a clean reboot as well as flash my gpu bios. The result is the same, SHA coins are no problem but scrypt coins break cgminer or reaper. But the errors vary. Sometimes cgminer will just get stuck at starting and other times it will say no pool available and exit. Sometimes I'll get an actual error like (when running guiminer):
Traceback (most recent call last): File "guiminer.py", line 1033, in toggle_mining File "guiminer.py", line 1338, in start_mining File "guiminer.py", line 1167, in configure_subprocess_cgminer IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: u'C:\\Windows\\System32\\cgminer\\mine-ryc6.bat'
Did you try looking for the file that it cannot find and putting it where it is looking for it?

Tried reading the pools forum and the search function? But without being a programmer/system admin there is no current package to setup a commercial shared pool server.
There are two threads in the custom hardware sub forum on how to get eloipool and stratum-mining running basically.
Or use p2pool which does the shared payments automatically.

This has probably been asked before but I can't find it anywhere.
If i set a -f 5 when i run p2pool, where does the 5% go and how often. I've been mining with an address as user name and have been getting paid normally, but i'm lost as to where my fees might be.
If you don't set a address the fee percentage will go to a address in the bitcoind wallet that p2pool is set to use and creates a address in.

I have problems with this block. It is impossible that I have this reward from these shares:
17925 2013-05-08 14:13:44 1:27:14 11634278 157 0.00000004 235160 25.21733124 confirmed
No, it's not impossible. You have a low hashrate on a very long round. This is not an argument. I can tell again the same thing (mine) and we can continue al the month in this way. Others in forum write the contrary. Why I don't believe them? Can you ARGUMENT me the results? Do you have a log of the round for when the round started and when the shares were found? If so you can work it out using the formula in this post https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1976.msg50002#msg50002and organofcorti is right the main reason for the low payout is the long round and the weighting share system. The sharp increase in difficulty makes cpu/single slow GPU mining basically finished.

besides the afformentioned blocks with issues ( yea, took a while to read 9 pages to catch up.. ) i've noticed since getting a GPU to mine with ( roughly 3.9-4.2Mhash/sec with GUIMiner )
That's not GPU mining speeds its CPU mining speeds. Check your configuration. CPU mining is basically not worth it you pay more for the electricity unless your getting it for free.

There was talk in the p2pool thread of someone modifying p2pool not to include transactions to gain less rejects as it reduces lag.

I also see this error Error -1: Getting Device IDs (num)
Anyone have any ideas as to what I can to do fix this?
Just re-read your post, that error i think is to do with your graphics card. Try the latest version of cgminer and see what you get from that. cgminer is what guiminer uses underneath anyway, but iam not sure of the what version it uses.

A guy did something similar in the last week, in new york. A small voice call out exchange. If you think it there is a market for it give it a shot maybe even mention it on localbitcoins and bitcoin otc. Just remember to take some safety precautions. Maybe check your local regs and beware of AML stuff.

When I bought some Bitcoins in a face to face trade months ago, the guy asked if we could go to the bank and get my notes checked out. He had already sent the Bitcoins to my address and I handed him the money and we finished out drinks in the cafe and then he was like do you mind if you come to the bank with me to see if they are real. In the end I suggested him give me the money back and I will get out a fresh set of notes from the ATM machine and he was happy with that.
Good idea for the ATM, bit far to wander/walk to the bank. You would think he would have looked up how to check the notes for fakes? Not sure about us notes, ones here are very hard to fake and easy to check.

hmmm, You mean create key for user receive payment, transfer payment or let them sweep the key then destroy it. Or user has account which is a gpg key/encrypted seed key or something similar uses it to create a address which they receive payment then transfer sweep then archive it for them? and they can recover it by using the key made it with?
If it is something similar, interesting idea, could be used for anonymous payments maybe if it was sitting on tor, or semi anon if not.
