601  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What thread can earn newcomers merit on: December 15, 2023, 07:26:50 PM
We all know the beginning stage is not easy as a newcomer needs to be patient. Atleast he or she should be getting no matter how little some reward for their resources in terms of time and materials.
I joined the forum and all I told some people around me about it, the next question is," how much have u earned", I was absolutely discourage as I remained mute till date.
Your account was registered in the forum on the 5th of December this year, so by right you should be more focused on learning about the forum, Bitcoin and the entire cryptocurrency space unless you already have these knowledge before joining the forum. If that be the case, earning merits should not be a big deal for you because you would be able to contribute meaningfully in discussions across the forum.

Furthermore, there is no thread dedicated for earning merits because merit is awarded to comments deserving it irrespective of the board and thread. Many people earned most of their merits even in this beginner's board; you just have to study what those highly merited individuals are doing and you will be earning merits effortlessly.

Finally, as a simple advice, if all you think about is how to earn merits from the forum, you will never enjoy the forum and it will not take long before you become frustrated and consider disappearing. The best is always to feel at home, be yourself and enjoy the forum and all the available resources. You can earn free money in the games and rounds section if you are eager to earn money. You can also join promotional games of some projects in the same gambling board. There is so much you can do in the forum... just feel free to explore the forum.
602  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Target your wins in a series of bets on: December 15, 2023, 04:39:00 PM
Such an approach or strategy as shared by the op could really work, but the truth remains that there is absolutely no guarantee of any kind as long as its gambling we are talking about, there are times and days I place up to 20 different bets, and still end up losing all of them, and there are times I win may 4 to 5 out of 20 bets, my joy still is that, I usually don't stake too high.
How can you place 20 different bets in a day and even lose all? Don't you think you are following it with desperation thereby playing more than you should? I cannot imagine myself doing that because it is not sustainable; you can be burnt completely and that is bad. However, I don't know the type of risk management you employ. Maybe you target massive wins with small capital, I know a handful of people who use that, although they hardly win but when they do, it is always jackpot.

And talking about placing bets on 5 odds, this is another big risk to be honest, winning a 5 odds bets is highly risky, and to me, there is still a very high Chance that, if one place 10 bets with 5 odds each, he or she may still end up losing all of he or she is unlucky.

In essence, don't treat gambling as a do or die affair in terms making money, be comfortable losing, just as you are happy when you win.
Getting 5 odds is not that of a big deal if you know what you are doing. Just have a clear mindset and select 3 matches of at least 1.8 odds each and you will have 5 odds. At this point, you don't have to be afraid of it not working because you have 10 times to do it while expecting to be right 4 times.
603  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin in your country. on: December 15, 2023, 10:09:40 AM
I go first:

I am a Nigerian.

  • On the 5th of February 2021, The Central Bank of Nigeria directed all the banks in Nigeria to close the accounts of all the people that are involved in cryptocurrency transactions in the country. The banks swung into action immediately. This made Nigerians believe that the government has banned cryptocurrency in the country.
  • Nigerians began to use centralized p2p to trade and when there is need for banks, they send the money without using any crypto keywords in the narration. Meanwhile,  the information was that crypto is banned in Nigerian
  • Quote
March 21, 2021: The CBN clarifies its position on the ban and states that individuals  are not prohibited from buying and trading crypto, just not through any Nigerian bank or fintech.
  • So, in my country cryptocurrency is not banned but its transaction with banks is banned.

On 28th May, 2023 Nigeria government signed into law the finance act 2023 which grants 10% tax on gains in digital assets including cryptocurrency while still keeping cryptocurrency transaction banned in the country. This is the state of the confusion about bitcoin and cryptocurrency in my country.

There is a little clarification on the issue of Bitcoin in Nigeria. First, Bitcoin was never banned legally; it was just Buhari handlers that were looking for who to blame for their inability to stabilize the FX market. They first blamed Aboki FX, a websites that gives the Naira/Dollar exchange rates in the parallel market, this lead to the shutting down of the website yet the Naira kept falling against the dollar. They went ahead to blame Binance p2p, asking government to ban Binance in Nigeria, as shown in this post.

So for clarify, those restrictions placed on accounts transacting in Bitcoin have been relaxed as captured in this post I made in our local board. Just that people are being careful dealing openly on Bitcoin following what have happened before in other to dodge any irrational and frustration-driven decision in the future.

It wasn't an easy task to invest in Bitcoin as it was my first time to deal with anything that had to do with cryptocurrencies. I have been hearing about Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, but back then I didn't put much interest in them. I wish I had invested then when I heard about Bitcoin on the very first day.

However, I believe this is just a start. That is why I have invested over 1.7 million naira in Bitcoin. With time, I will add more money to my investment and I have promised myself to hold my coins for a long term without selling a piece of them.

The advice of everyone on this forum has helped me as I have been benefiting a little. I haven't benefitted anything from Bitcoin yet, but I have gained some knowledge about cryptocurrency and how I can get as much as I want, only if I hold on for the long term. Thanks to everyone for your advice.
I'm happy for you on this bold step and I say congratulations. You have put to practice òur discussion in various threads regarding Bitcoin accumulation especially now that price is still very low.

I will like to know if you are adopting the DCA method that @JayJuanGee did excellent job at explaining or this is just a one off buy pending when you also have more funds. Personally, I have been using the former and the results have been incredible.
605  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is the only currency that has grown the most!! on: December 15, 2023, 07:06:31 AM
Altcoins have their own time that they do very well and that is after Bitcoin has gotten most profit due to the halving effect. It's better to buy Bitcoin before and after the halving as you'll sure of profits, after Bitcoin has had its share of the market then the altcoins will start pumping as traders take their profits and start pumping their favourite altcoins. Bitcoin isn't the only cryptocurrency that have grown the most but it's growing very well as investors are pumped.
This sequence of altcoins pump after Bitcoin huge growth have been around for a while and is called the altcoins season. What I do not know is if this trend will continue considering that a lot of altcoins have turned out to be shitcoins. Within few years now, we have seen popular altcoins with huge market caps crash, leaving people in various degrees of pain and agony. The recent being Luna is an experience no one wish to ever have again. This is why people are increasingly leaving altcoins for Bitcoin.  The continuous increase in Bitcoin dominance confirms this.

Even though it will be difficult to know exactly how things will turn out, it is obvious that the awareness of people about Bitcoin have grown so much following the role it played when the war in Ukraine broke out as well as that of Gaza. Many people resorted to Bitcoin which never fail to deliver irrespective of location. Therefore, the popularity of Bitcoin surely come with more inflow of capital.
606  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Target your wins in a series of bets on: December 14, 2023, 07:58:52 PM
What if such person doesn't have upto 10 bet as you may say even 1 bet is okay just that how comfortable and reliable is the games he selected is that is the question we should asked ourselves.
There is no reliable bet my dear, same way there's nothing like fixed games, its all predictions. What he's saying is this. You can play 10 different bet slips and each of them should be of at least 5 odds. According to his prediction, if you're able to win 4 of them and lose 6 of the stakes, you're still obviously profiting. Let's do the analogy.
You play 10 games with $5 each, that gives you $50 for your total stakes.
Now, assuming you won 4 stakes, that would be
$5 * 5 odds totaling $25 for one.
Now winning 4 of your stakes would be $100
Subtracting your investment from your wins = $100-$50.
so you're still gaining$50, even though you lost 6 of your stakes. This is a cool analogy, but my question is, what is the probability that you'll win up to 4 of your stakes?. Gambling has a lot of surprises  and you'll be shocked to lose all your capital sef Grin.
Gambling doesn't have a definite formula, the formula is simple, gamble in moderation and with a budget.
I'm very happy that someone understands the post correctly and have seen some merits in it. Your example above is a clear indication that you are really following my point. Now let's be realistic for once, if your win rate is not up to 3/10, and you are actively gambling, then you are obviously sliding into depression caused by perpetual loses. In that case, you need to check your strategy if it is actually working.

The other part of your concern is how possible it would be to get 5 odds to make a single bet slip in that series. Well, I just check leagues and teams that are consistent in delivering one outcome and play just those teams. For instance, Bournemouth have been consistent in scoring this season so whoever they are playing, I give them to score atleast a goal and that is it. Another one is that Fulham have been very good at home, so whoever they meet at home will have a hard time winning them so I give them to score a goal or double chance, whichever I consider safer base on who they are meeting,  will be selected. 3 to 4 matches of these nature gives me the 5 odds for the bet slip. The success rate of things like this is high so the 4/10 expectation is realistic.
607  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sympathetic gamblers looses itself on: December 14, 2023, 05:18:30 PM
I have seen some facial expression gamblers that I am emotionally touched about and feels they have loosed more than they can handle and feels they deserves an condolence winning. While I empathic with him his amount of lost, I am then to consoling myself that someone on here has lost more than I do.

This is exactly how some gamblers runs out of gambling budgets and goes bankrupt because they fails to figure what their net worth or incomes value is.

They are basically to believe one who lost $20 has lost more to them who looses $10.
A lot of gamblers do not have gambling budget, they gamble until they are completely burnt. I consider this careless habit as addiction because it is only addiction that can keep someone hopeful even when it is obvious that day was not his day.

To enjoy gambling, one must be able to take it formally as a business and draw up budget that should be managed meticulous, employing the highest form of discipline to follow these pre-gambling decisions. You don't expect to go far in gambling when you follow it casually, gambling upon receipt of any funds.

When there is failure in planning, then all the outlined facial expressions of pains and agony are inevitable.

I don't blame scammers that come up with these obvious dubious schemes, I blame those who fall for them. Assuming people are not falling for these cheap scams, they will not have the motivation to continue. Hey, it's Christmas and scammers are on the loose again, don't let greed make you lose what you have... there is no investment that pays 40% per day!

609  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: December 14, 2023, 01:31:43 PM
If we delay our decision, we may change our decision. Maybe now I have enough interest to invest in Bitcoin and I don't have any financial need, I can invest in Bitcoin as easily now as I can in a year but I won't be able to invest in Bitcoin as easily. Maybe within this year I may face some financial problem due to which the money I am trying to save for investment will have to be spent on something else. If I can invest $200 every month then the price of bitcoin is changing every month and I can invest every time the price of bitcoin changes but the risk in my investment is reduced.
I don't think that the decision to invest in Bitcoin should be taken in a hurry because to hold Bitcoin requires more than just investing any money at your disposal. You must make effort to plan your finances in such a way that some funds will be set aside for any emergency that may arise which was not expected, like the "financial need" you stated. If such provisions are not made, even if you adopt the option of investing $200 every month, you will surely sell your assets or some of them when emergency arises. Hence, it is better to think properly and plan well before starting the investment process if longevity of the asset must be assured.

What is required in long term investing is decision making and some risk taking. Overthinking what we invest in can muddy the waters, and muddying the waters can change our investment decisions. As we will hold our investment for a long period of time, a small change in the market will not be a big obstacle for our investment. You are willing to invest and you have money to invest there is no need to delay invest your money in Bitcoin and hold it.
I quite agree with you on the decision aspect but I seem to defer on the risk aspect. Bitcoin seems more risky for short term investors than long term investors. Apart from loss of assets due to hacks and others, holding Bitcoin actually have minimal risk from what we have seen so far.
610  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Target your wins in a series of bets on: December 14, 2023, 04:21:46 AM
This is my approach and through it, I don't get depress over few loses. This method works for me and I feel it will also work for others. Your opinion are highly welcomed.
Can you explain better?

You can give the name of the games you are playing to win 4 times and lose 6 times and get you profit. You can let us know the odds that you are selecting also.
I apply this method mainly in sports betting. I already stated that the target is 5 odds per bet. Just to be clear, the winning can be more that 4 times in a series of 10 bets, it can also be less but the target is usually to win 4 times in a space of 10 bets. Assuming I have $100 to gamble with, I will have to divide this amount into 10 equal parts for 10 different bets of $10 each. Each winning will give me $50 since the cumulative odds per bet is 5. 4 wins will give me a total of $200 which already doubles my capital and cancels all losses I could possibly incur with the other 6 bets.

And after that? You stop? What if you lose? What if you only get 3 of 10?
From the example I gave above, 3 wins out of 10 bets will still give about 50% profits.

One way of approach is to focus on winning certain number of bets in a series of bets. For instance, you can target to win at least 4 bets in a series of 10 bets with the odds being at least 5 odds. This way, you can lose 6 times and win 4 times yet you still remain highly profitable.

This is my approach and through it, I don't get depress over few loses. This method works for me and I feel it will also work for others. Your opinion are highly welcomed.

You are only assuming that probability will always play well on the profit side but you can literally experience 10 out of 10 loses even on a 50% winning chance rate. There’s no way to predict an exact outcome of your bets that’s why many loses on gambling because probability always not following our plan no matter what is our target win / profit.
Any gambler that experiences 10 loses out of 10 bets should have to either reconsider his approach and pattern of selecting games or consider quitting gambling as it may not be something for him. Gambling is not that complicated if you one cannot get 5 odds after several trying unless the gambler is not well prepared to analyzed the selections with open mind and present form.

612  Economy / Gambling discussion / Target your wins in a series of bets on: December 13, 2023, 01:15:34 PM
I just felt I should bring this up here maybe it will help someone in managing expectations and the entire gambling process.

From experience, I have realised that many people run into problems when they focused so much on winning a particular bet amd when such bet fails, they easily slide into psychological crisis.  Considering that gambling is a game of probability with the chances of losing higher than that of winning, it is therefore expected we work out ways of approaching it so we can remain profitable.

Thanks for sharing this post that have motivated me so much and congratulations for spending a decade here.
615  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Logic of some gamblers against math on: December 12, 2023, 04:15:57 PM
Hi guys. Someone will explain to me why gamblers have such a strange logic: if a gambler has received a huge multiplier, then he will not withdraw this money. And he will continue to play, saying, "if I'm so lucky, I'll be lucky again now."
But according to the laws of mathematics, the chance of such luck becomes much less, doesn't it?
I think this is a psychological problem faced by majority of gamblers. As a matter of fact, gambling is designed to make you hopeful of winning always and if you are not careful, you might become complacent.

It takes effort to overcome the urge to continue gambling after major wins. Those who have been able to master gambling and all it takes to remain in the business ensure they fix this psychological problem as soon as they can.

I was reading some comments on line today and a story caught my attention, and I want to know how possible this is.

A guy claimed he won $5000 on a poker machine and that's where his addiction began, and when it get to the point that he lost his rent money to gambling he decide to take matters in his one way.
Every gambling addict has a story similar to this, big win at the beginning before they become entangled in the euphoria of easy money. It is always good we discuss this kind of things in this forum so that people will learn from others mistakes. Gambling is a very profitable business when followed systematically with greed and fear under check.

He proceeded by going to gaming commission and had his name banned by himself, ( Someone please tell me how this is possible?) never seen such in my country before. he claimed he still go back to casinos at times and he knew he can't ever win big again, because his name was flagged in the system, and if he win big they won't pay him.

He said he was limited to winning $200, that anymore than this he would have to sign his name and be subject to prosecution for trespassing. He claimed his move took his joy out from gambling real fast, and now he haven't been near a casino in over 10 years.

What do you think? This is an insanely move on oneself to stop addiction, something done right? Would you do the same if such is possible in your country?
He is neither a hero nor a fool but somebody taking proactive measures in solving his personal problems. You are not in his shoes so you will not know the extent of damage he might have suffered from his ordeal. Gambling is not for everyone, so since he realised he had to stop gambling, the approach he adopted may just be what he consider most effective. There are a lot of gambling addicts who cannot help themselves unless they adopt this approach.

Fulham vs WestHam
I am a little surprised by this h2h match that WestHam should be the favorite because they often beat Fulham and from their performance this season WestHam is also superior to Fulham but for some reason the bookmaker slightly favor Fulham in this match. but I have an instinct that there is a small possibility that there will be a draw but I still hold my prediction that if this match there is a high probability that WestHam will still win.
Westham United do not have any reason not to give their best in this match even though they are playing away. Unfortunately,  Fulham is drilling them mercilessly even from first half. Should we say it is fatigue from too many matches on the side of WestHam? The game play shows that Fulham is not only scoring them but also playing better. The three goals lead in first half is not a mistake.

Luton vs Man City
after getting 3 draws from the last 5 matches I think Guardiola has found the problem that makes Man City look very bad and in this match Man City is very easy to win even though it will be an away match but Luton is not a team that can oppose City but I still have confidence that if Luton appears at home they will score at least 1 score like when they hosted Arsenal and Liverpool.
It seems the woes of Manchester City is not yet over. Maybe that is how things are aligning for Arsenal to carry the Premier League after many years of trying. If Luton holds their one goal lead aganst Manchester City  as it is as at now, it will begin to be clear that Arsenal will have a hitch free season.

I decided to look for slightly higher odds and bet on Luton over 0.5 at odds @1.89
Obviously, you made the best decision because Luton has taken the lead in the first half.
