It really depends how you think about the question. Doge is very cheap and very fast to transfer and thus has its benefits but when you say 'the future of Altcoins' I don't think this will be the case. Doge has shown its longevity and I expect will have a place in the future coin market but I don't think it will ever be considered as one of the 'big' coins.
This coin came long back but no big growth. What you said it's right this coin is very cheap and very fast transaction we can use it to do gambling. For trading also no use because of no big fluctuation in this price. Why investors are not investing in Dogecoin is the big question. Etherium surviving as a 2nd place to Bitcoin is still guaranteed. Waves as at last I checked is still way far below at $4. What are your facts that waves will overthrow the Etherium bearing in mind also that it has its own investors. because now there are many projects that use their platform and therefore the use of waves will increase and from the increasing use of waves it will trigger a price increase against waves it is true that the increased use of waves will trigger an increase in price waves but rising or falling prices do not depend on it alone because it still exists that affects the price waves even all the coin is on issues that exist ETH starting also very slow like now waves but today it has grown up and become a top 2nd crypto currency in digital currency world. I just use my local wallets for every coin, that supports it. I think online wallet are not secure enough and you even dont know who is behind the running server of this online wallet! If they are going to exit scam or they are going to get hacked, you maybe loose all your coins and investments.
If you use a local wallet, you should watch out for the security in your own network!
Online wallets are risky especially for altcoins. if it bitcoins then we have well reputed bitcoins online wallet, but for altcoins, we don't have that much safe wallets. So better go with local wallets. I use altcoins to do trading and gambling, so I will not keep my altcoins in any wallets I will keep it in exchange site or gambling site. A couple days ago I transfered enough from my bank account to buy 1 Bit coin. While waiting for the $ to make it from the bank to the exchange I had $75.00 invested so could use it to practice with. Keep in mind that I had no experience with bit coin trading and my past day trading did not go well.
Today I saw that SC (Siacoin) was above 10% and volume was above 10,000. It was also very active pumping up and down. I did four buy and sell trades, not aiming for much more than 5% profit on each one and increased my $75.00 to $91.00. It was a great leaning experience. Also very humbling because on the first trade I made a mistake and lucked out.

Personally I never played with other altcoins because I believe too much in Bitcoin and I like to play only with it. if the price of the bitcoin is not mattered for you, then you can play with bitcoin. the damage has been made and weak holders are under pressure thinking that the crash will be that long, I guess normal process with any crypto so better to understand how this pro traders works and how to take advantage from it. i do not think that we need to take any pressure, no need for panic selling because bitcoin is just taking a correction and very soon the price is going to start increasing again, therefore in such situation it will be more profitable if you will hold your bitcoin for some more time because still there are too much expectation that the price of bitcoin will reach to 7000$. Don't assume your skills by watching youtube videos and reading "daily indexes and predictions" of how the price will rise or go down by shitty sites. That's just dumb. You don't know what's gonna happen. Maybe a little bit of luck, or I don't know.
So yeah, from now on, I'll just leave the trading area for experts and I will invest in bitcoin by buying every 2 week or monthly and saving into my wallet. And one day (I hope so) the price will rise and I will buy for my self a delorean.
