6141  Other / Meta / Re: Would the IQ test have made the forum better? on: April 05, 2022, 07:33:11 PM
I’d have to see the statistics but I can only assume that spam was cut down while the IQ test was going on. I also don’t know what happens if you got one wrong. Did you have to answer a different question or did it just deduct IQ points. If it kept people from posting until they got the answer right, it definitely should reduce spam as I can’t imagine that would be worth the hassle. Without a longer test where the fun of a high IQ wears off and posting habits become normal again, it is difficult to judge whether it would be a positive or negative development. I’m sure people would figure out a way around it eventually also.
6142  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / [NFT] Gimmicks - Weekly Cartoon Series on: April 05, 2022, 09:07:15 AM
Anyone taking part in the "choose your own adventure" series, Gimmicks?  It's a Solana NFT by Mila Kunis' production company where holders get to vote on what will happen in the next week's episode.  For voting, you receive tokens called "DIC Punch" and can send them to other Gimmicks NFT owners.  They've been around since 2020 and have only recently released their NFT collection.  It's worth checking out.  The episodes are free to watch on their website and the NFTs themselves are only around $30 to be a part of the adventure.

6143  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 30% tax on crypto income in INDIA on: April 05, 2022, 01:25:07 AM
At present we all know that in India, up to 30% of one's income is spent on crypto. And it has affected every Indian who works in the crypto industry. If you can guide further on how to go further now. Give some suggestion.

I'm wondering how they're going about monitoring and enforcing this...  Sure, it might be easy to get the exchanges to force this tax on this clients, but what about everyone else?  Certainly websites based in India aren't suddenly charging 30% more are they?  Is this the sort of thing where people are going to be taken to jail for using p2p services?  It seems like a knee jerk reaction to trying to get some funds from wealthy investors to me.  I doubt they're going to be wasting time and money tracking small purchases done by their citizens, but who knows...  The world is becoming increasingly hungry for people's private data.  Even those I thought once respected privacy are now obsessed with tracking to the point it's damaging operations.
6144  Economy / Speculation / Re: Billionaire Says Bitcoin May Significantly Exceed Its Previous 2022 Goals on: April 05, 2022, 01:19:38 AM
Mike Novogratz is certainly more well positioned than any of us to have an "ear to the street" if you will.  I'm sure he hears about all sorts of things that we never learn about.  I'm also certain he has discussions with extremely rich people about what to do with large sums of money.  I'm sure he's using a bit of speaking it into existence here, but him being positive is a reason for a good outlook in my opinion.  It seems like the market has a lot of new buyers and the drop to $10K seems less and less likely with each new entrant to the market.  I think this cycle led big money to be much smarter and get ahead of the retail investor for once.  Instead of a blowoff top we saw profit taking, and now when the market was expected to dip they're buying up everyone's coins.  The cycle truly was, "different this time."

I'm glad that Chris Rock is seeing increased sales as a result of this.  The incident with Will Smith no doubt suddenly turned his life into a freak show without his willingness to be a participant.  Chris Rock is way too old to be worrying about people slapping him in the face at the Oscars.  I really think the entire incident took everyone by storm and that's why security didn't jump on Will Smith immediately and why Will wasn't dragged out of the place when he refused to leave.  I'm guessing Chris Rock's stage will look much different going forward with the addition of some large security men between him and the crowd.  I think the security setup at the next Academy Awards is going to appear much different as well.
6146  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Experienced GPU miner thinking about starting an ASIC farm; what should I know? on: April 04, 2022, 05:16:59 PM
I would think that an experienced GPU miner might be a little turned off to ASIC mining for a few reasons.  ASICs tend to devalue faster than GPUs in my opinion, so while their volatile prices might give you more opportunities for profit scenarios, you have to be quick to act because you can be left holding worthless bricks in the end if you aren't nimble.  There is also more dependency on a single currency, whereas GPU mining gives you added flexibility if one coin's price dips or something.  You're also left with less usability for your equipment, so if regulation or market conditions causes ASICs to become worthless, GPUs will still have buyers in gamers and graphic artists.  Personally, I think GPU miners will be a bit disappointed moving into ASIC mining, but if you pick the right entry and exit points, it can be massively profitable.
6147  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 19M Bitcoins are mined but did you know about the last Bitcoin mined? on: April 04, 2022, 05:07:48 PM
People tend to be surprised by this, but it isn't as fantastic as it sounds.  I'm reminded of the saying that if you travel halfway to your destination each day, you will never arrive there.  That's sort of how Bitcoin block rewards are issued.  They keep getting cut in half, which makes it sound a little "fantastic" when you look at only the final date.  The last few reward cycles are pretty small though.  Likely tx fees would make up a lion's share of the block reward at that point and the reward itself would be a secondary thought as it reduces itself to near nothing. (Maybe, I guess we'll see what the price does.  Well, I won't but maybe someone else will live that long.)
6148  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Regulators: are you able to protect effectively ... your private keys? on: April 04, 2022, 05:04:40 PM
Be ready to lose all your money in crypto, EU regulators warn
https://www.reuters.com/technology/be-ready-lose-all-your-money-crypto-eu-regulators-warn-2022-03-17/

Here is the ESMA press-news:
https://www.esma.europa.eu/press-news/esma-news/eu-financial-regulators-warn-consumers-risks-crypto-assets
The European Supervisory Authorities (EBA, ESMA and EIOPA – the ESAs) today warn consumers that many crypto-assets are highly risky and speculative. The ESAs set out key steps consumers can take to ensure they make informed decisions.

https://www.esma.europa.eu/sites/default/files/library/esa_2022_15_joint_esas_warning_on_crypto-assets.pdf
1st page, last point:
Are you able to protect effectively the devices you use for buying, storing or transferring crypto-assets, including your private keys?

-> own your keys ... even they know it.

Nothing wrong with them warning people about the dangers in cryptocurrency.  I imagine they probably get a lot of reports about scams and hearing from people who have had their lives negatively effected by crypto scams due to their lack of knowledge.  It would almost be irresponsible not to issue warnings.  They've taken it a step further by providing educational material to help people mitigate the risks and protect their investment.  Seems like a positive approach to crypto to me.  I don't think anything they're saying is crazy or fearmongering.  Just warning about the dangers so that people can be better prepared when they walk down the rabbit hole.
6149  Economy / Gambling / Re: Video Course of BlackJack for people who want to learn BlackJack on: April 04, 2022, 04:54:13 PM

That's quite a course.  I was expecting some low budget youtube video but this site is great.  It looks super high quality and professional.  I didn't watch all the videos but I'm assuming form the professionalism in it's presentation that the production and content quality are also on par.  Thanks for sharing.  While BlackJack isn't my game of choice (I had a bad experience with a questionable dealer at an Indian casino once a long time ago) it's always good to have knowledge in case a game breaks out at a party or you find yourself at some sort of gambling night work function.  Smiley
6150  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining rig burning smell! on: April 04, 2022, 07:03:35 AM
yeah a 2000 watt atx psu can not do 2000 watts 24/7/365

I was thinking the same thing.  Typically you want to leave 15% is what I always heard.  That would mean you wouldn't want to run more than 1700 watts on that PSU.  With 10 GPUs and likely a motherboard running on that, I can't imagine there wouldn't be problems.  Not to mention all the loss from what I can assume is a mess of cables.  I'd definitely get a new GPU going, and it wouldn't be a bad idea to think about replacing the single 2000 watt PSU with 2x 1300 watt PSUs to take some of the load off.  I'm not sure I'd risk hooking the burned PSU back up in any capacity.  You don't want to risk it damaging something else.
6151  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 04, 2022, 06:59:20 AM
I'm not sure how I feel about the upcoming week and Bitcoin's price.  It seems like our billionaire friend Do Kwon is due for a large purchase and we have the convention going on in Florida.  I suspect that a lot of people have bought in anticipation of these events though and there's a good chance that this week will be a little boring compared to recent activity.  Most of the traders are probably enjoying drinks and endlessly talking to each other about our favorite hobby.  Unfortunately I can't be there, but I will be watching.  I think we may have to pause the rally and wait until the festivities are over before we make another run at $50K though.

I can't believe this hasn't filled up yet.  Free stuff people!  I'll see what I can do about getting a little promotion going on for you.  I want my Pokemon!

As always, good luck to everyone involved.  Maybe toss a link in some of you online groups and see if we can't get this free raffle going.

6153  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 NBA Season on: April 04, 2022, 06:04:10 AM
I had to take some time off from NBA games, and I missed some important games.

Seeing the ranking and the results of the last games, I was impressed, Lakers with 6 consecutive losses and Nets are not having that great effort expected.

My question is... what do you think can happen with these ""dreams teams"" that are performing extremely below of expectations!!??

Maybe you are not updated on the roster status of those dream team you are mentioning. Lebron, Davis, Durant, Irving suffers injury and out for the game for a long time that result to there team poor performance on this season, They just got back again so obviously they will still need adjustment to get there performance calibrated again. Davis and Lebron just got back in the game last match of Lakers and they are facing a tight match just to get spot on play in match.

The Lakers problems are bigger than just injuries.  Coaching and the Nunn situation aside...  The Westbrook trade right after the Anthony Davis trade was just too much for that roster to handle.  They were gutted of all their players and they didn't attract enough talent willing to sign for the league minimum.  They've now won 2 out of their last 10 games during a time when they should be laying it all out on the floor.  While they still have a chance, unless the Spurs start tanking (they won tonight) it isn't looking good for the Lakers.  A shame because I always like watching LeBron in the postseason.  The Spurs have won 6 out of their last 10 though and seem to be playing really well when they need to.
6154  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: April 03, 2022, 04:45:21 PM
I'm going with the Nuggets +5.5 against the Bucks, they are the underdog, but I think the +5.5 will be a good bet for me @2.09. Let's see if I can win back to back.

The Bucks are playing the Mavericks. The Nuggets are playing against the Lakers in what is a must win game for them if they want to have any hope for the playoffs. The Nuggets are getting JaMychal Green back from injury, so that should give them a little boost and they are expected to win so LeBron is backed in a corner with the spread on his side. Might be a game the Lakers are worth betting on. I’m going to try and watch at noon on ABC. Hopefully Westbrook can shoot over 50%.
6155  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 NBA Season on: April 03, 2022, 02:10:38 PM
Atlanta Hawks got a really nice win after a tight game against Brooklyn Nets. And it was a magical night for Kevin Durant too. He scored 55 points in this game and showed one of his best performances of the season. But when there is not a big team play, you can still lose the game like it happened here too. They lost by 122-115 still. However Brooklyn Nets must be still happy to guaranteed promoting to the playoffs. But it is impossible for them to enter top six from now on. So they will play an extra playoff round.

I think the Nets are more concerned with getting Durant the scoring title over LeBron than they are with winning games. Now Durant is only 0.2 points per game behind LeBron. With the Lakers playing today in a couple hours on ABC I’m expecting to see LeBron try to put up a huge game to keep himself in the top spot on the scoring list. I have a feeling we’re going to see LeBron and KD both putting up some big numbers the rest of the way as Durant tries to keep LeBron from becoming the oldest player to ever win a NBA scoring title.
6156  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin on its way to $100000?! on: April 03, 2022, 12:46:08 AM
I guess we wait to see if inflation and a recession leads to Bitcoin being a benefit of a flight to safety by billionaires, or if the rest of us get our pocketbooks pinched so much we are forced to sell and bring down the market.  So far the signs are good, as in there is a billionaire Do Kwon who is pumping the market and taking a bold stance with a great deal of funds.  Other billionaires could follow suit and this could lead to Bitcoin being the safehaven that it is thought to be.  I would much prefer this to it's price crashing in a 2008 style crash where everything falls.  Now we wait and see how bad this coming recession gets, and if Bitcoin is a beneficiary or a sacrificial lamb.
6157  Economy / Gambling / Re: Gambling exploit (LEGAL) on: April 03, 2022, 12:41:57 AM
There's no such thing as in legal gambling exploit it's actually illegal and you don't have to invite people for money just to help you exploit if what you're saying is true which I doubt you don't, post it here and just do with on your own money it's risky for people to give you money to gamble because you just sign up today, we have so many threads like this trying to scam people because they found exploit in one casino, get loss it's a cheap trick.

I would tend to agree with this statement.  If you've found a way to exploit a casino for money, that doesn't sound legal to me.  It sounds like defrauding a business and would likely not only get your money frozen, but if you did manage to win and withdraw anything would likely get you tossed in the slammer.  Definitely not worth it.  Not to mention the likelihood this is a complete scam is extremely high.  Most people don't go around advertising they found an exploit, they just quietly exploit it for as long as possible.  I understand you say you need a certain amount of funds to pull this off, to which I would say if that is the case you are likely taking more risk than anyone lending funds for this would endure.
6158  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1070s/1080s are still good in 2022? on: April 03, 2022, 12:39:05 AM
I'm still mining with a couple of 1080ti GPUs and they do ok.  Not getting rich or anything but they keep the sats rolling in (I use nicehash to be paid in BTC for my altcoin mining).  In fact, they do about as well as the current gen LHR models of GPUs that most people are buying at outrageous prices.  I'm actually impressed with how long these GPUs have been able to earn Bitcoin at a decent rate.  The only cards that impress me more are my Radeon VII GPUs, that are still extremely profitable after multiple years of mining away.  They're easily the best GPU purchase I've made and I don't see them becoming unprofitable anytime soon.  I just wish I had maxed out my credit card with those when they were available at MSRP.
6159  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Only 80 MH/s with RTX 3080 non LHR?? on: April 03, 2022, 12:35:10 AM
Hello, I replaced the thermal pads now with 3.0 mm Thermalright Odyssey pads and memory temp went down from over 110C to 84C.

But the problem is, that now the other (first) temp is up 88C in about 5 seconds after starting t-rex miner. What is the problem now? I also replaced the thermal paste directly on the chip, like shown in that video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8KKYtiuu0I

My screenshot: https://talkimg.com/images/2024/01/11/sWlvl.png

Make sure you are using the proper sized thermal pads.  Its usually 1mm-2mm for the front and 2-3mm for the back.  If you use ones that are too big they will prevent the heatsink from making contact with the GPU to cool it properly.

Yes, this could be the problem.  Also make sure none of your pads moved or folded when you were putting it back together.  Your new temps are more concerning than your old temps to be honest.  I would definitely crack it back open and have another look.  As others have mentioned, your over/underclock settings have a lot to do with power usage and hashrate.  I'd advise you to do some googling and read what settings other people are using to get their hashrate.  You may find that you're able to increase your hashrate and decrease temps/power usage by fiddling with some adjustments on your settings.  Hope that helps.  Good luck!
6160  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 NBA Season on: April 03, 2022, 12:31:40 AM
That 76ers game was brutal.  The shocking thing to me about it wasn't that they scored 144 points and beat the Hornets by 30, but that they did it in such a balanced scoring way.  When I first saw the score I thought for sure Embiid would have 50 points as he chases behind LeBron James for the scoring title, but he only had 29, which is actually below his average.  That leaves him 0.3 points per game behind LeBron now as the race for scoring champion heats up.  I see that Durant, who is currently 0.7 points back from LeBron has nearly 20 points halfway through the second quarter in his game, so it looks like he's still trying to get that title.  I think it will come down to LeBron and Giannis in the end and whoever wins the scoring title might just be the one to walk away with the MVP, although Jokic is currently leading the MVP race and nowhere near the scoring title...
