6161  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: 42 Confirmations on: November 11, 2021, 05:09:42 PM
The payment has still not been received and the number of confirmations continues to rise.

There aren’t a lot of options to consider, the thing is pretty simple.

  • the recipient has received the transaction and is now trying to convince you otherwise - a classic scam that works if you don't know how the blockchain works.
  • the transaction was confirmed, but the recipient did not receive the BTC because you or he/she has clipboard malware on the computer that replaced the payment address.
  • the recipient has trouble syncing their crypto wallet and does not see the transaction.

Either way, one good sign is that the coins are still at the address they were sent to.

That's what i also wonder that how people are busy making lame excuses always when Bitcoin prices are low - "that it's not going to survive and it will be dead" and when the prices are high they say - "we miss the boat" and this will continue as always.

I believe in the theory that these are mostly people who want short-term profits, and when the price is low and relatively stable then they have no motive to invest - and when it is as high as lately, then they wait for a big correction to happen. These are actually very indecisive people, not only about Bitcoin, but mostly about everything they do in life. I know some such people in real life, and I stopped trying to understand them a long time ago - if you've been talking about something for 5+ years and you haven't done anything to make it happen, then no one can help you.
6163  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin makes new ATH. More ATHs to come shortly. on: November 11, 2021, 04:31:34 PM
Tell you what, 100k by end of 2021 is still a heck lot more plausible than Santarina sitting me on her lap and asking if I've been a good boy. Yes, even with this current "dip" right now.

If there's one thing I've learned all these years when it comes to Bitcoin, it's that nothing is impossible - when you least expect something, that's when it happens. The only question is who or what should be the deciding factor that would make a big boom.

I absolutely remember Dec 2017. I would really not like a repeat, though. 100k by the end, in a series of weekly highs, followed by a good half more year of slow swells, and then a more relaxed return to, say, 50(?), where it plays for a few more years.

While I personally wouldn’t like another long crypto winter, there are those who want it and hope to be able to buy BTC and many altcoins again at 50% and lower prices - whether it’s those who just want to profit again, or those who want to invest for the first time and feel that crypto prices are simply too high.

Since I'm recounting my life-long Christmas wish, I might also win a nice lottery or two and swagger into an OTC office and plonk an order down.

It would be a real Christmas miracle to win the lottery, here in the EU we have a Eurojackpot whose winnings are at least 10 million EUR, the only thing is that the tax (at least in my country) is only 30% - but although heavy-hearted, I would pay that too, just to draw my lucky numbers. Then I would buy a lot of BTC and enjoy the rest of my life on a private island away from the viruses and all the bad things of the modern world Wink
6164  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Wallet Migration on: November 11, 2021, 04:10:40 PM
20 tx = 35$, that means that at 40 tx a hardware wallet is paid at full price, no discounts, and from there one is "on profit", and imho you cannot compare the security provided by a HW with that 2FA.

I may be wrong but it seems to me that many still think that a hardware wallet is too expensive an investment, and I believe that a number of users are not even aware that such a thing exists. In addition, we could read many times on the forum that Electrum users are wondering why a certain amount disappeared from their wallet - which means that they did not even know that it was a paid service. In any case, 2FA is at least some kind of insurance if the seed is compromised at any time.
6165  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Wallet Migration on: November 10, 2021, 04:24:28 PM
3. Keep in mind that you'll have to pay for using the Electrum 2FA feature.
4. From [2] and [3] I'd conclude that it may worth considering the use of Electrum with a hardware wallet instead of 2FA.

Although TrustedCoin says that the prices of their services are halved every time the price doubles, still 50 000 satoshi for 20 transactions is about $35, which is probably enough to buy some hardware wallet, even some relatively reliable at a time when there are discounts of 20- 30%. For me personally, security is never too expensive - but for those who do a lot of outgoing transactions, this option is definitely too expensive.
6166  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sweden proposed to ban mining in the European Union on: November 10, 2021, 03:55:00 PM
Sweden can suggest whatever comes to the minds of their politicians, but it is foolish to expect the rest of the EU to agree. Recently, a united Europe could not even agree on whether there will be daylight saving time changes after spending years discussing it. This is obviously bad news for those who have their crypto mining operations in that country, but I have no doubt that some other countries could follow their example.

Interestingly, when it comes to energy consumption, they always find Bitcoin as a starting point for change. Globally, the 0.2% of electricity consumed annually in BTC mining is obviously quite a problem for some.
6167  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin makes new ATH. More ATHs to come shortly. on: November 10, 2021, 03:30:26 PM
Nope.More like 70K,but there will be a price correction after that.100K should be expected in the next years, unless the global "powers that be" decide to ban Bitcoin for some reason.

Have a little faith, because we are still approaching the month when beautiful things happen (of course, if you believe in Santa Claus🎅) - and if you remember the end of 2017, who then believed that the price in December would double?

I don't believe that $70k is any psychological limit in any way different from $60k, so it's possible that it will be broken much easier than it seems at the moment. The WO reports that the price on Bitstamp has touched $69k, and it is a bit illogical for me to stay here where we are now for the next 50 days - for me personally it doesn't matter if the price reaches $100k by the end of the year, but it would be nice for that to happen because a lot of people are hoping for that.
6168  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have you spoken to Satoshi ? on: November 10, 2021, 02:44:36 PM
I’m just kind of curious how many people around here have been around long enough to have spoken to Satoshi, and what your experience was like.

If we take for example this thread from 2010 - Proof-of-work difficulty increasing ,only 4-5 people who then discussed with Satoshi are active today or were active this year.

I am just fascinated about the whole thing. It’s beyond amazing Satoshi is still anonymous, so it makes me wonder what he was like when speaking with them. I’m guessing not too many people here were around for those days. This is one thing I’ve always wanted to hear Theymos talk about. Imagine having helped Satoshi build bitcoin, having private messages etc…what an experience!

It would have been a special experience for sure, but Satoshi was just a man, not some supernatural being with special powers. If Satoshi is still alive and reading this forum, I think he is amazed that people are still so obsessed with him, even more than with Bitcoin sometimes.
6169  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Apple CEO Tim Cook invests on Crypto on: November 10, 2021, 02:23:31 PM
Apple CEO Tim Cook have invested on cryptocurrency. He has disclosed it in a recorded interview. He mentioned it as part of his diversified portfolio. His investment was from his personal point, and Apple doesn't have any plans of investing/accepting cryptocurrency. This is a big news

Why is it big news that a man you didn't even know his name until today invested in cryptocurrencies, and Bitcoin is not mentioned anywhere? A man may have invested a few hundred or a thousand $ in some altcoin, and some call it great news, completely ridiculous from my perspective.

Who knows what's next in the Apple story, Tim Cook is trying to convince Warren Buffett that Bitcoin is a good thing Roll Eyes
6170  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: No, China is not planning on unbanning bitcoin mining on: November 10, 2021, 02:05:18 PM
...there are still lots of other countries particulary in Asia who supports bitcoin like Russia.

Russia supports Bitcoin? I really don't know why some people have the idea that Russia is a friendly country towards Bitcoin, especially if we know how friendly they are to fundamental human freedoms, such as the Internet.

The process, underway since 2019, represents the start of perhaps the world’s most ambitious digital censorship effort outside of China. Under President Vladimir V Putin, who once called the internet a “CIA project” and views the web as a threat to his power, the Russian government is attempting to bring the country’s internet to heel.

I don't know if anything has changed in terms of blocking this forum in Russia, but I would really like people to start understanding some things, Russia is not that far from China when it comes to cryptocurrency - let no one be surprised if they start copying the Chinese in their decisions.
6171  Economy / Speculation / Re: [Poll] If this happens, is it time to sell your Bitcoin? on: November 10, 2021, 01:33:22 PM
and as regards technology I have just learned that the CEO of Apple Tim Cook owns Crypto

Apple CEO Tim Cook owns "crypto"
“I’ve been researching it for a while”

Interesting how he avoided saying exactly what he owns, because crypto is a very general term - he may not own Bitcoin at all. I personally know at least a dozen people who own crypto, but none own Bitcoin - at least not the one that matters. Most of those who just want to profit as quickly as possible are targeting altcoins, but the market is open to everyone and anyone can spend their money however they want.

It would have been even better if this reporter took the opportunity and asked the CEO if Apple plans to invest in crypto as a company Cheesy
6172  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I missed the boat is not new concept.. on: November 10, 2021, 11:54:09 AM
Yes i am not suggesting anyone to allocate the huge budget towards bitcoin but only pointing out that people in the past and at current time period are not different at all and still make the same excuses that we missed the boat so instead of doing this go for investment to enjoy later on.We still are somewhat not too late and prices are $65k-$68k range and we might seem to reach more high so make some moves.

I'm pretty sure that one day people will regret the missed time when the price of Bitcoin was only about $60 000, just as many today feel the same when they remember how cheap Bitcoin was just a little over 1 year ago - I believe most remember what happened in March 2020 when a pandemic was declared, the price of 1 BTC fell below $5000.

It is true that it is never too late to invest in Bitcoin, but it is also true that you need to know how to choose the right moment - history has shown that time just before or after halving is an ideal entry point even for those who just want short-term profit. The worst thing is to do nothing and talk all the time about what it would be like to invest in Bitcoin - some people never learn and stay on the sidelines forever.
6173  Economy / Economics / Re: Jefferies sells Gold to buy Bitcoin on: November 09, 2021, 04:02:11 PM
I think this news is pretty bullish. We have another financial manager who just a few years ago did not believe in Bitcoin and now has come to consider it better than gold, also putting his money where his mouth is: progressively increasing exposure to Bitcoin at the expense of gold.

I have a good habit of always reading the article before giving my comment, and no one seems to have read the article (at least not to the end). One thing is pretty eye-catching, and I believe a lot of us here wouldn’t agree with that. Of course, we can only interpret his statement from a profit perspective, as the fact is that ETH achieved a rather impressive price from a single-digit figure in early 2017.

Quote
Meanwhile, Wood is yet to consider adding Ethereum to his portfolio despite his renewed stance on Bitcoin. The exec reiterated his previous position when it came to Ethereum, establishing that he had no plan to include ETH in any pension fund portfolio as it is not a “store of value” asset. However, he opined that the leading altcoin has the potential to outperform Bitcoin in the near future.

I think in the long term gold will continue to have value mainly as costume jewelry, but as a store of value Bitcoin is going to eat into it.

You may be right, but then we will need to find some replacement materials as a substitute for gold used in electronics, dentistry, medicine, or aerospace.
6174  Economy / Speculation / Re: Tesla accepting Bitcoin payments and ..... Doge ? on: November 09, 2021, 03:24:04 PM
All the "sheep" on the financial market think that a centralized meme coin has value, only because a guy like Elon Musk recommends that coin. This is a joke.

If we are to be honest, what percentage of the crypto market can be considered serious in the sense that some altcoin has some meaning and significance? They all originated after Bitcoin, and most were made to make a profit out of nothing. Pictorially presented, each flock wanders aimlessly without a shepherd, and when the shepherd appears all the sheep follow him - EM just leads the flock in a certain direction, the only question left is whether he did it on purpose or is it his way of having fun.

In addition, people have a very short-term memory, so most have forgotten that EM mentioned D coin in his tweet back in 2019.I wonder why there was no similar effect then Roll Eyes

Newbies should be very cautious before investing large amounts of money at the ATH of any asset but more especially cryptocurrencies because they are among the highest volatile assets available.

Newbies should not invest in anything risky until they know exactly what it is about, FOMO is their biggest enemy, and ignorance is a sharp sword hanging over their heads. But I also think you misunderstood a bit what @aysg76 meant, because I don't see him advising someone to invest large sums of money, but to try to learn something from the mistakes others have made in the past.

They should DY(T)OR before investing, only invest what they can afford to lose and don't except more guarantees than in a gambling game. BTC and the crypto world won't earn anything good in the long run by creating disappointed, frustrated and angry people.

Any investor in Bitcoin (and even some altcoins) who invested a few hundred dollars a few years ago, today has a significant amount of money in their possession. Investing in the long-run has therefore proven to be a very successful and profitable way, and if someone is disappointed, angry or frustrated - one should not blame Bitcoin for that, because we all had the same chances, some took advantage of them, some did not.

I'll just keep checking the forum whenever I have the mood.

Honestly, I’ve always thought that Filipinos are pretty active on the forum and have an active local board - I don’t know what happened to them lately - maybe they’re all busy with some other things in life, or just enjoying the profits Bitcoin has given them.

By the way, congratulations on your wedding, I wish you all the best👰🤵‍💞
6177  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger wallet technical issues - Can't send any crypto. on: November 09, 2021, 12:04:14 PM
The small amounts may be related to glitches, may be related to dust amounts/inputs, may be related to funds (spent or not) not correctly seen by Ledger Live. You have a better chance to get help here after migrating to Electrum.

In addition to all this, care should be taken to use the latest version of Ledger Live and Bitcoin App on Ledger. However, the OP has confirmed that smaller amounts do not create this problem, so it is possible that Ledger Live for some reason cannot process larger transactions. Electrum is a logical solution, and if after that there is a problem with creating transactions, the problem is somewhere else - I would personally try to clear the cache, install the latest version of Ledger Live and Bitcoin App.

Seeking Ledger's support for things like this is a waste of time, no matter how strange it may sound to someone - they have much bigger problems to deal with.
6178  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: No one can continue ignoring Bitcoin on: November 09, 2021, 11:32:31 AM
So this news is based on several people trying to be funny in one of the podcasts alluding that Joe allegedly made some deal that was paid for in Bitcoin? I don't know, it seems to me that this is just a good publicity trick that results in just such discussions and articles that will appear in all crypto-related media.

Quote
During the Joe Rogan Experience episode #1728, about 56 minutes and 30 seconds in, frequent guest and comedian Ari Shaffir boasted to fellow comics Mark Normand and Shane Gillis on behalf of their friend, “Joe got a deal for over $100,000 dollars,” Shaffir said.

It’s not American money,” Joe deflected, brushing off his fellow comics’ antics. “It’s all in Bitcoin.”

I know that business people generally do not care how the customer pays, it is important to make a profit, but I also know that it is a real rarity to find someone who accepts Bitcoin directly without the mediation of payment processors. Not ignoring something doesn't necessarily mean that someone really accepts it.
6179  Economy / Speculation / Re: [Poll] If this happens, is it time to sell your Bitcoin? on: November 09, 2021, 10:59:18 AM
Rich individuals like Elon were the sole reason for shitcoins like DOGE/SHIB being pumped even till today. Moreover, there are quite a few like Michael Saylor or the President Nayib Bukele who truly believe in the potential of Bitcoin and try to stay on radar without shit posting on twitter about other coins. Wish the future powerful investors be the same like Jack Dorsey/Saylor.

There is no doubt about that, and the result is that many have invested in D believing that the price will only rise, and today they are at a loss (in case they have sold). I would say this is kind of good because they may have learned an important lesson and understood the difference between altcoin which has unlimited supply (and dubious application) and Bitcoin which is something completely different.

Indeed very true. We never know if companies like Apple own bitcoin which were bought through various OTC trades but if their trade tends to go public anytime in future it might create a bullish movement and can change the way how bitcoin was conceived in public back in the early days.

I'm not sure if these companies can keep such an investment a secret, because in the case of Tesla, as far as I know, it had to be made public - and it happened a few months after the investment. I know people speculate a lot about Amazon or Apple when it comes to Bitcoin, but you should know that the management structures of these companies are not exactly pro-Bitcoin - so if I'm not mistaken one of Apple's biggest shareholders is the famous Warren Buffett, who has a very negative attitude about Bitcoin.

Saylor in particular as well as Dorsey and Bukele have an unbelievably positive outlook,
they cannot be the only ones and their outlook cannot go unnoticed and not acted on by
others.

The president of a country or the CEO of Twitter just can't get under the radar when it comes to things like this, nor can Saylor who is the CEO of a large company that has invested everything in BTC. They use their status to strengthen their positions, the success achieved by Bitcoin is their personal success.
6180  Other / Meta / Re: Is "Scam accusation" board utilizing effectively? on: November 09, 2021, 10:35:04 AM
If the board doesn't serve its purpose, where's the necessity of having it either?

Board really serves a purpose, your problem is that you think there should only be scams related to forum users. If you think that every other scam report is unnecessary and should be removed from that board, start using the report to moderator button, or contact the admin directly (Cyrus) and ask him to change the rules of that board.

I don't want to mention what are the craps; I believe most of you know which threads I'm talking about.

If you don't want to give specific examples, you haven't helped anyone understand what threads exactly are bothering you. There are a lot of other boards that make far less sense than Scam accusations, but I haven’t yet experienced some board being completely removed because someone thinks we don’t need it.

How much sense does this board have?
