I'll enjoy watching the lawyers try to catch that greased pig.

6183  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Finally, Bitcoin withdrawals to PayPal from BitInstant! on: June 27, 2012, 02:05:10 AM
"Virtual World Services GmbH" is going to be rich as fuck pretty soon, if they aren't already. At least until PayPal boots them out.

Let's bet: How long until they are forced to cease operations that are even slightly Bitcoin related? I give them 4 months, tops.
I agree, even though PayPal assumes no risk, they will still bully baby Bitcoin. When Bitcoin grows up, he will remember who the bullies are.
6184  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If god is a mathmatical formula, is it safe to say that Bitcoin is backed by god on: June 26, 2012, 03:27:34 AM
Also, if god is a math formula, it would be quite complex... Bitcoin would be fraction him. Therefore, I suspect, Bitcoin would be the penis of God.
I think Bitcoin would be God's bellybutton.  Grin
6185  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Reducing the wealth concentration of Bitcoin on: June 26, 2012, 01:00:09 AM
FOREX markets are closed from Friday night until Sunday night.

So are COMEX/GLOBEX markets for commodities.

Equity markets and options markets are open even shorter periods of time.

Now you may be able to buy and sell forex and gold in an aftermarket on the weekends, but the price is locked to the closing price from friday afternoon.

This is all done for a reason to protect market participants and create as level of a playing field as possible.
That's why I've been advocating a decentralized statistically based price algorithm for Bitcoin. It can help stabilize price and give people a break. In my opinion there is way too much unregulated speculating. It won't control exchange rates, but will mitigate them. Once BTC becomes a major investment (and it will), BTC based securities will be as bad or worse than junk bonds. Their decentralized nature will let them spin out of control, Bitcoinica notwithstanding. Growth is great, but wild fluctuation is bad.
6186  Other / Off-topic / Re: How fast is the speed of light? on: June 26, 2012, 12:02:59 AM
The wave-like appearance of light is caused by self-sync behavior of a dynamic force on the static medium of space-time. It's like water going downhill that twists and turns (around pi) or lots of people walking over a poorly stabilized bridge, except it has more dimensions involved and travels in vortexes. What we measure as energy frequencies doesn't change unless the gravitic temperature of the space-time medium changes. The vortex in which energy radiates when polarized (like lasers) demonstrates that the space-time medium it travels through can also be warped by energy. This is confirmed by laser cooling experiments that cause the atom to decay as its suspension medium changes, like carbonated bubbles escaping an open soft-drink.

The speed of light itself will depend on the state of space-time. I predict that future interferometer measurements will detect anomolous energy that seems to come from outside the edge of the Universe. What we'll see is a quasar pulsing through dark-matter (slush-like) space-time between universal mud-holes.

Quote
Federal welfare spending in fiscal year 2011 totaled $668 billion, spread out over 126 programs, while the poverty rate that remains high at 15.1 percent, roughly where it was in 1965, when President Johnson declared a federal War on Poverty.

As a non-American,its striking that almost all US welfare goes to people who don't need it in the form of housing and insurance subsidies.  Is change possible or will they carry on wasting money?
About a third of that money is spent on flood insurance for ocean-front property for the billionaire welfare queens.

Random source:

Since 1978, the National Flood Insurance Program has paid more than $38 billion in claims to flood victims. Thanks primarily to Hurricane Katrina in 2005, more than 40 percent of that money has gone to one state: Louisiana.

So no, flood insurance is more like 1-2 billion USD per year. Regardless, I think that is a dumb program.
Thanks. That goes to show me about trusting information you get from the Internets.

Space-time can be compressed. In many ways it acts like a medium. Light bends around dense objects like water around a rock. If space-time is a medium, wouldn't it make sense for that medium to have differing states? Most space would be fluid. Black holes may be frozen. Planck-time may be plasma. Dark Matter may be the gaseous state of space-time. What we call matter is a suspension of remnant solid space-time as particles that decay based on the temperature of the gravity they exist in, kinda like floating ice.

6191  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The difference between government instituted currencies and Bitcoin is huge. on: June 25, 2012, 07:15:24 PM
The USD has devalued 98% in the last 99 years. Bitcoin has grown exponentially in 3.5 years. At the current rates, the USD will eventually become almost worthless and BTC will become almost priceless.
6192  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why do people sell bitcoins and move the money back to their bank? on: June 25, 2012, 07:07:12 PM
How do you know this is happening? Of course there are miners that sell BTC to pay expenses, but why do you think speculators cash out other than for arbitrage? I'm sure some do, but for the most part folks are in the game, win or lose.
6193  Other / Off-topic / Re: If you were granted the understanding of one particular thing, what would it be? on: June 25, 2012, 06:10:34 PM
At first I was thinking poker, but that might be dangerous. Then I thought chemistry, but some people might not like what I do with the knowledge. Then I thought genetic biology because I would find a way to make myself younger, taller, and better looking, but then some jealous guy would kill me. Then I realized I know way more shit than I care to already. I'll let Google do that for me.

Oooooh let me start!!!

THERE IS NO GOD ALL CHRISTIANS ARE DUMBASSES!
/sarcasm

But for real I give this thread one page at best before it goes to shit.

Page 2.

I wonder if Luke Jr. wears a shirt that reads, "I hash, therefore I am."
Would that be advocating drug abuse?

Only if others read into that half of the double entendre. (I'll patiently await your reply--touché (i4t))
"Anything that can be misconstrued, will be, whether it is a t-shirt, text chat, or what she said." I think that's a corollary of Murphy's Law.

What appears to us through math and science models is only a glimpse of existence through blurry optics. The self-similarity of nature seems to permeate the fabric of existence. I doubt that we can know everything, but we may create something in our own image that is able to understand even more than we.  Maybe that's what being a parent/God is.
