621  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How do you know is xmr-stak has hit a solo block ? on: October 15, 2017, 08:32:30 AM
I'll try to make it simpler.

Is it possible to know if one our shares mined for the pool was actually good enough to be a solution to the whole block ?

In other words, is there a connection between the block difficulty that the pool is working on and the best result achieved by the local xmr-stak instance ?

1) No, I don't think so there is any possible way to find out if the shares of your miner solely contributed to finding a block in a pool.

2) Again No.
622  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum Asus z270f Strix Can't see more then 2 gpu's (was 4, then 3 now 2) on: October 15, 2017, 08:07:29 AM
Most of the setups i've seen utilize pentiums - i5's thus have 16 pcie lanes all in similar configs, so not sure why i'm having issues haha

Your CPU is not the problem in here.

Yeah,

They all show up on each pci-e, all cards correctly powered and individual pcie psu cables connected, might try more power cables from the psu for each riser and see if that changes things.

Yeah in Gen 2 3 cards showed up, dropped to Gen 1 and they showed up, inserted the 4th card and it dropped too 2 GPU's

Use Gen1, Gen1 seems to be the most stable state for data transfer. Turn on Gen1 and start inserting your GPUs one by one. As you said, the fourth GPU is a problem. So, swap the risers and try a new one or try different x1 slot.

Why would turning 4g Encoding on after the cards show up help (trying to understand)?

In default mode, our system can run up to 4 GPUs without any issues and the system can provide the resources to support them. As soon as we plug the fifth GPU, the extra resources are needed, so we need to enable 4G Decoding to avoid this error "This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)". Moreover, it differs from system to system.

Try this:

Disconnect all the GPUs from your rig, shutdown the system, remove the CMOS battery and insert it after a minute or two -> This will reset all bios settings. Go to Bios without plugging any GPU using IGFX (Integrated Graphics) and set the bios settings as you did before (Don't enable 4G Decoding yet). Connect 1 GPU and boot to OS and see if everything is fine. Then proceed with 2nd GPU and so on. After all GPUs are detected, go on and enable 4G Decoding from BIOS.
624  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How do you know is xmr-stak has hit a solo block ? on: October 14, 2017, 09:40:01 AM
I (like others) have pointed my rigs at pools. A few of them are running monero with xmr-stak. I am rondering, how do you know if stak has mined a solo block ? There's the top 10 results, but how does that correlate to current difficulty?
Can I assume that if the best result is > difficulty, then a solution was found ?

Your question is kinda unclear but I'll give you some insights to it.
Your miners are pointed to a pool which is mining Monero and your miners won't be the only ones.
All the collective hashing power is trying to find a block in Monero network which when found provides block rewards to the pool.
The rewards are then proportionally divided to the miners according to their respective contribution.

There is nothing like a solo block.
If you are mining solo or in a pool, you're trying to find a block in the network.
Finding a block depends on the luck of miner/pool.

The pool must have a statistics page which may display the found blocks with a timestamp and block number.

625  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How to set up Bitcoin Gold Mining? on: October 14, 2017, 09:30:43 AM
Hi everybody. Anyone can explain me, how can I set up Bitcoin Gold mining? I want to start mining it since the first minute it comes out, so the software and everything else should be ready. Is there any instruction how to set up everything?

Just keep your equihash miner ready and as soon as the fork is released on October 25th, point your miner to a Bitcoin Gold pool. That's pretty much it.
Moreover, you don't have to look for a new Bitcoin Gold address, if you have the private keys for your existing Bitcoin address, just start mining with that address and then import it to a supported BitcoinGold Wallet.

hey guys,

i used to mine doge when it was first introduced log before, but was not around in last few years.

wanted to come bk to crypto world with mining small

have 2 pc with GeForce GTX 970 and i7 4770k

can anybody guide me if it worth using these 2 for mining ?

and if worth which altcoins can be profitable?

thank u

A few suggestions, mine XMR with your CPU and point your GPUs to Zcash or similar altcoin. If facing any complications with setting up, nicehash will be a way to go as it'll help you to understand and cover up the basics.
627  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: renewable source on: October 13, 2017, 12:45:15 PM
Anyone here using a renewable source of energy for mining? like solar, wind or other sources not from an electric company? Is  it profitable excluding the initial investment just for the daily returns alone.

There are many miners that depend on solar energy for powering their rigs, but they have their equipment set up already, so that didn't have to pay any extra for solar service.
Moreover, with the current difficulty, a dollar a GPU a day is what you'll be getting on average and it won't even come close to break even your rig in a year or so, let alone your investment in solar equipment.
628  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: what to buy ? 1060 3g or 6g ? or 1070 ? Already have a rig with 4 1070 and 1 580 on: October 11, 2017, 10:00:56 AM
These days RX series became easy to purchase, I personally recommend AMD GPUs.
But among those cards I recommend 1060 6gb, which has best cost efficiency.
3GB version has limited life for mining ethereum because of increasing DAG size.

Hello sev18 , Thanks for your replay ,

I don't mine ETH in the moment , I'm mining zcash , do you think think the 1060 6g will make much differance than 3g

TBH, there is literally no huge difference in hash rates between 1060 6GB or 3GB. My Zotac 3GB Mines at 270 sol/s while Zotac 6GB Mines at 280 sol/s. Moreover, the difference of price point between these two was 75 USD.
I don't think they are worth the price. Go with 3GB if they are really cheap.
629  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: a GTX 1060 3GB on simpleminingOS on: October 11, 2017, 09:52:04 AM
Anybody got some good stats for overglocking a GTX 1060 3GB on simpleminingOS??

If you're running only Nvidia GPUs, then give nvOC a try. It's easy to use.
630  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining with L3+ on: October 10, 2017, 01:23:37 PM
Hi, a few questions I haven't been able to find any answers to on the net, hoping someone in here can help.

1. I have a couple L3+ machines, both machines chip temps are between high 40's to 61, is this too high? How long would they be expected to last before they start breaking down?

2. Is it possible to mine at more than one pool per machine, how do? As it appears that I can only specify multiple pools as fail safes in case the primary pool goes down.

3. What coin am I mining if I mine at the Nicehash pool stratum+tcp://scrypt.usa.nicehash.com:3333 with BTC payment address in worker field. While mining at Nicehash pool, the L3+ has shown that I've found a total of 3 blocks, would those have been litecoin blocks, or some random altcoin block. As Nicehash seems to rent out the hashing power I provide, not sure if that is what I am actually doing while mining at the stratum+tcp://scrypt.usa.nicehash.com:3333 address.

Thanks for the help.

1. Until and unless your miner hits more than 70C, your miners are completely safe running under this temperature for 24*7 operation.

2. I don't think so you can point your miner to multiple pools at a time.

3. When your miner is pointed to Nicehash, it automatically detects which Scrypt coin is profitable to mine at that time and it mines it, which in turn gets converted to BTC and transferred to you. That "Profitable coin" changes from time to time.
631  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Rx 470 won't mine!!!! on: October 09, 2017, 08:55:12 AM
I've got a corsair cx 600 watts psu  it pritty new and I have wiped windows clean and even reinstalled everything. I don't know if it the gpu but it works at gaming and normal computer usage but it did use to mine perfectly but when  I click on the miner now it goes to a black screen and the pc is on most of the time (sometime it goes off). So could it be the gpu because ) I doubt it a psu problem because I tried mining with a rx 460 and it work perfectly it just happens to the rx 470.

Well, it still won't hurt to check it with a different PSU. Moreover, bronze rated PSUs are not so reliable for a 24-hour workload. The better being above Gold rating for PSUs if your purpose is mining.
632  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ideal settings for Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060? on: October 09, 2017, 08:41:23 AM
Hi,

I'm mining Ethereum with 6 Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 GPU's.
Current hashrate is about 138 MH/s.

Here are the settings I'm using with MSI Afterburner.

Power limit: 100%
Temp limit: 83
Core clock (mHz): 0
Memory clock (mHz): +400
Fan speed: 84

The higher memory clock gained me about +20 MH/s.
Temperature is now 75 c.

Anyone else have experience with overclocking Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060?

Go to GPU-Z and check for the memory manufacturer of your VRAM.

If Samsung:
TDP: 65% Temp Limit: 87 Core: -150 Mem: +800 Fan Speed: 75
Expected ETH Hashrate: 24-24.5 MH/s

If Micron:
TDP: 65% Temp Limit: 87 Core: -150 Mem: +550 Fan Speed: 75
Expected ETH Hashrate: 23.5-24.5 MH/s

If Hynix:
Try a different algo, they suck for ETH mining!

633  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1060 6 GPU rig, need help on: October 08, 2017, 01:39:57 PM
Hi guys,

I just got the rig assembled and when i plug all 6 GPU, only 5 are showing. It's not a GPU hardware problem since i tested them all one by one on the mobo.

hardware :
mobo : Asrock H61 pro BTC
PS : 1000W
CPU Celeron G470
4 Gigs Ram
GPU : Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 WINDFORCE OC 6G
USB powered risers

I read that it can be a 4G decoding on mobo problem but 4G is not available in bios. Bios is 1.2 version. Last one is 1.4, i tried to upgrade it by using the 1.4 version on a usb stick but mobo does not find the stick. (i booted OS on it so format should be ok). I tried flashing using internet but i'm not connected due to the fact that i'm using a wifi stick.

I also read somewhere it can be a driver issue but i can't find it back.  Undecided

In a few words, i need help.

Try swapping the riser with a new one. Most of the times, risers are the culprit for this kind of problems.

635  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Litecoin invalid shares on: October 08, 2017, 01:12:45 PM
Hi folks,
Wondering if anybody can shed light on (a) whether and (b) why I have such a high rate of invalid shares when mining LTC? I have a rig comprising of 5 x latest Antminer L3+ on the go now for approx 48 hours and all are pointing to Litecoinpool.org.

See pic below and tell me what I'm doing wrong?

That's completely normal. Sometimes, the miner may miscalculate and thus producing invalid shares.
You don't have to worry until and unless the combined percentage of stale shares and invalid shares is greater than one percent.

Obviously, you are facing authentication issues from the pool. Try removing "-zpsw x" and give a try.
637  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Afterburner how to change Core/Mem Clock ? on: October 07, 2017, 07:10:28 AM
Hello,

I would like to optimise my hashrate, I would like to know how I can change Core/Mem Clock on Afterburner (msi rx580 + Asrock Pro btc)
1 - I can't move cursors
2 - If I change the value 0 with my keyboard, the value is blinking and that it ! When I click on the check button nothing happen.  Huh

Thank you !

As I can see, you are using AMD blockchain drivers. You'll have to install MSI AB beta 16 version to make it work with this drivers. Download link:

638  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain D3 PSU on: October 07, 2017, 06:05:12 AM
Hi, can anyone tell me if this PSU will work with the D3?  A support rep at Bitmain sent me this link, but on the page it only says it works for S9 or L3+.  I find it difficult to understand Bitmain support so I'm hoping someone here knows.

The D3 works with the APW3++, but this page in particular does not list the D3.  Also, does the "October Batch" make a difference?  There is a November batch that clearly says D3 but I'm hoping to get it in October.

https://shop.bitmain.com/productDetail.htm?pid=00020170802143751593t5IHEi4Q0667

Yes, this PSU will definitely work with D3. The October Batch doesn't make any difference in the product than November batch. It's just that it'll ship by October.

What issues are you facing? I hope you're not using blockchain drivers.
640  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ethermine hashrate vs effective hash rate on: October 07, 2017, 05:54:42 AM
hello,i came across to this miner
 https://ethermine.org/miners/3Cc37F3eC91b74B7efAed9f8DB5Cc2B1636Fa8dA

his hashrate with effective hashrate is 3 times bigger for past 24 hours, just what kind of tricks in play here?

There are no tricks going on in here! It's just that some of his miners are not reporting hashrate to the pool and thus this. I had this same instance when I ran my Nvidia rig with ethminer. It never displayed hashrate but it did mine and increase current effective hashrate.
