621  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: BitCrack - A tool for brute-forcing private keys on: June 22, 2018, 05:44:59 AM
The main purpose of this tool is to contribute to the effort of solving the Bitcoin puzzle transactions: https://blockchain.info/tx/08389f34c98c606322740c0be6a7125d9860bb8d5cb182c02f98461e5fa6cd15
For all those (like me) wondering what the heck these puzzle transactions are, here is a link to an older tread trying to explain that:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1306983.0

Now at least you would have a clue what the OP is trying to achieve.
622  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Question about creating your own erc20 Token on: June 21, 2018, 09:01:07 PM
So I was on fiverr and noticed a bunch of sellers offering this service. It made me think "how easy is it to create a token if it is this readily available on Fiverr". Gig prices range from 20 - 600ish. Does anybody here have experience with creating an erc20 token on the ethereum blockchain?
Obviously if such a gig is being offered on Fiverr (knowing the price range of their gigs), it shouldn't be so hard to implement a basic ERC-20 token functionality.

I'd assume that these have the potential to get hacked easy and may have some security issues, but i don't know.
Smart contracts are a nightmare when it comes to security, no doubt about that.

and wtf is solidity
Solidity is the actual programming language (a mixture of python, c++, and javascript) that is used to build these smart contracts on top of the ETH network.
623  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Casper FFG - Ethereum’s treasure keeper on: June 21, 2018, 06:06:09 PM
https://www.poolofstake.io/blog/casper-ethereums-treasure-keeper/

Hey guys, do you think Casper FFG is the next big think for the blockchain ecosystem?
No I don't think. I don't even think they (the devs) know the full consequences of what they are doing.

Didnt know much about this before I read this article but still I am not sure what to think, so many other good projects..
Frankly, I too am not sure what to think. The blockchain is not a playground. Where billions are at stake, you don't want to make even a single mistake, and you have to protect yourself against all possible scenarios. We'll see soon enough.
624  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: On which basis ICO or tokens get ratings on: June 21, 2018, 05:38:58 PM
The more I look at these countless ICOs, the more they all appear the same.

I mean, there's not much to examine. The same old lingo, the same old ideas recycled.

If I were to judge them I would put the greatest emphasis on the quality of the whitepaper.

But the ranking sites mostly concentrate on the amount of money the ICO managers are willing to give them.

Check out this medium article to see how easy it is to manipulate ICO ratings.

Not that I blame them or something. Just saying.
625  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: A standalone blockchain parser. The simpliest parser that has been ever maded. on: June 21, 2018, 05:18:28 PM
~
Open the file in your notepad and edit the var "dirA" and "dirB" to the directory where the blk*.dat files are stored and the directory where you want to save the parsing results (respectively).
Thanks a lot. I was going to try the code but didn't know where to start. You saved me the trouble of figuring that out.
626  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: LOKI MINING CPU -POOLS AND OTHER INFO on: June 21, 2018, 05:02:52 PM
I wouldn't recommend using a laptop because it would take forever to even make 0.1 LOKI but on the other hand a full fledged CPU you make anywhere from 0.5-1 LOKI a day.
Is it really worth it? One LOKI is currently worth something around 5400 satoshi. So, you would have to run your desktop CPU all around the clock, without even covering the electricity bills. Do you expect any significant growth or price increase in the future, something that would make mining this coin worthwhile?
627  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: A standalone blockchain parser. The simpliest parser that has been ever maded. on: June 21, 2018, 04:55:52 PM
The script is f**n slow, but he track byte-to-byte structure of raw dumps of bitcoin blockchain.
It is a pseudocode script that can parse whole raw dumps of blockchain.
For users that are not familiar with the details of your python implementation (like me), I think it would be useful if you explained a little bit about how to use they script. Is it enough just to run the provided python code, like this:
Code:
python blockchain-parser.py
or you have to provide something as an input to the script?
628  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: J.P. Morgan Files Patent for Blockchain-Powered Payments on: June 21, 2018, 04:16:29 PM
What I don't really understand is what part of blockchain technology they are actually patenting.

I mean, after all, it's all open source. And not just any kind of random open source code.

It's a code that is being perfected every day by the best possible developers one can have.

They cannot possibly begin to pay to produce better code with all their billions.
629  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: mine btc with rx480 on: June 19, 2018, 03:34:11 PM
Hi, can someone give me the follwoing datas:
How much btc/hour
How much consumption/hour

First of all, read this informative bitcointalk post about bitcoin mining in general:
Quote
BITCOIN mining is done today ONLY with ASICs, and any discussion of mining with CPU, GPU or FPGAs will be moved to the altcoin mining section.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2415854.0

(No, i don't want to mine btc, it's for a project...)

I get it now, you had me worried for a little bit. So to clarify, you would like to know the numbers, no matter how small they are.  Let's see.

For SHA256 (BTC mining) your card seems to give something around 1400 MH/s (source: https://hashcat.net/forum/thread-5557-post-30573.html#pid30573)

With that hashrate you can go to https://www.cryptocompare.com/ and see it for yourself (Note: Put power consumption to be zero, to get the raw data for comparison).

With RX480 I'm getting something like $0.0004633 per day or $0.01390 per month (BTC 0.00000208 per month).

In conclusion, with 208 satoshis per month you won't cover your electric bills, not even a small portion of it.
630  Economy / Speculation / Re: HODLers or Tether - who do we blame? on: June 17, 2018, 07:39:45 AM
tether is only useful as a method to arbitrage 'dollar' between exchanges. thus instead of a price rise happening on one exchange. and it taking old wire transfer 3-5 business days to move dollars across to impact other exchanges. tether can do it in seconds/minutes.
I see your point and I agree. But what about the allegations that they used to be issuing USDT when the price of BTC was down (most of the time) and were then buying cheap BTC. I have no idea how the things with Tether work, I mean, who decides if they will "print" more USDT, when, and how.

if you look at the cost of mining. which depending on electric and generation of asic used is $6k-$9k region roughly per btc.. the price has NOT tanked below a healthy cost of creating btc.
This is an interesting point I've never really considered. Is there an estimate of what the margins for the miners are? If the average cost to mine 1 bitcion is really between $6K and $9K, some of them are currently mining at a loss.
631  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Am I the victim of an ICO fraud? Advice on What to do about the Eroiy ICO. on: June 16, 2018, 08:00:51 PM
This shows how far people are willing to go with their ICOs. They can put great effort in writing a superb quality whitepaper (or hire a writer to do that for them). They can lure team members and prominent advisors by promising great rewards. They can pay ICO ranking sites for excellent reviews. At the end of the day, all of this doesn't mean anything, unless the people behind the project are willing and dedicated enough to the push the project up and possess adequate expertise and know-how. Given these factors, for us outsiders, it is hard to judge whether or not an ICO is worth participating in.

I'm afraid I have no idea what one can do in such a situation. Not much I guess. If it is any consolation, this entire ICO bubble will be over soon and in my opinion the vast majority of ICO projects will be wiped out entirely.

I'm not saying that the ICO you participated is a total fraud, and I hope you will be able to get your money back or at least cut losses at some acceptable level.

I do not think they will wipe out as they are still making millions dollar and nobody knows their identity.
They given their linkedin profiles and  still they scammed, might be linkedin will be next to ban the Cryto currency related profiles.
We need to make investor/people  more aware but scammer will find the new ways. A constant race will go on.

Well, they might not be wiped out all at once, but I sure hope things will be changed (somehow) for the better. Either people will come to their senses (probably not happening any time soon) or the government will start to regulate these ICOs. Because it's not enough just to raise money if you are not gonna use that money to build your product or service. And I don't see many of these ICOs actually delivering on their promises.
632  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and Crypto currencies can help in Nature conservation :-.> on: June 16, 2018, 07:52:19 PM
Do you know of any other projects that can help with nature conservation, preferably using Bitcoin?

How about Reef Coin. I'm not sure how legit the project is, but they are apparently trying to save the Coral Reefs.

https://reefcoin.io/

Yes, this is also a very big concern, I watched a documentary on Reef Bleaching and how warming oceans are killing our reef

coral. I just hope that the money invested into these projects, goes to the projects and not into people's pockets. If only one

of them turns into a scam, nobody will invest in them in the future. Thanks for your contribution.  Wink

I agree. It would be nice if it turned out to be a legit project for once. Too many shitcoins around use these days. Let's hope there is some genuine passion left for the greater good.

634  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dark net druggist identified by BTC transactions on: June 16, 2018, 02:08:29 PM
It's quite amazing how if you're linked to such illegal activities you don't transition away from bitcoin to some privacy coin. It's a shame because stories like this will continue to mean bitcoin is linked with illegal activities which is really not the case compared to any other currency.
Yes, he should've transitioned to Monero or something. It is about time for bitcoin to be cleared of this association with illegal activities. Not sure if Monero would've saved him, though. As the article explains, he appeared to have been carrying along his laptop with his tor browser installed and other compromising materials while going through airport control. They all make silly mistakes sooner or latter.
635  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alexis Bledel, Kurt Russell, Beau Knapp to Star in Money Laundering Thriller on: June 16, 2018, 11:50:20 AM
Here is a quote from the aforementioned link:

Quote
“Cryptocurrency has captured the attention and imagination of consumers and entrepreneurs all over the world but has never been explored in film in such a nuanced and exciting way.”

It was about the time to have a movie on the subject (there were some TV shows mentioning crypto but only briefly). Even if this upcoming movie seems to be dealing with cryptocurrency in the context of money laundering. But then again, "there is no such thing as bad publicity".

637  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What's your recommended crypto allocation? on: June 16, 2018, 08:24:18 AM

Without even attempting to give you an advice, I would severely push the ratio in favor of BTC.

I would tell him to stay only with bitcoin

Yeah, I didn't want to be that strict, but you are right. In fact, the only use for these pump and dump coins is to accumulate more BTC, but this requires some trading skills.
638  Economy / Speculation / Re: bitcoin is worth 180% more than exactly 1 year ago !! on: June 15, 2018, 07:29:59 PM
I couldn't agree more with your conclusions. It seems part of the problem is that the majority of newcomers into the crypto-space are expecting exponential growth.
They are expecting to become millionaires overnight. With such unrealistic expectations, of course they would be disappointed, even depressed when the markets are
sloping downwards. The media will continue to proclaim bitcoin's death, but it will grow ever stronger. If nothing else, this whole situation is funny to watch.
639  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best new altcoins to mine? on: June 15, 2018, 07:13:27 PM
I would suggest looking into some of the X16R coins (Raven (RVN), Proton Coin (PROTON), or Motion(XMN)). If nothing else, due to the interesting mixture of 16 algos, they currently seem to be ASIC resistant. In addition, RVN and PROTON are not pre-mined, which in my opinion is a huge plus.
640  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can a blockchain system be destroyed? on: June 15, 2018, 05:48:01 PM
Destroyed how? You have to be more specific than that.

By what means, during what time period, etc. Because, eventually everything will be destroyed, including our planet, solar system, galaxy...

Nothing lasts forever. So please, explain your thoughts a little bit more.
