841  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Shopping using crypto? on: April 23, 2018, 09:08:42 PM
I'll be using Zeex Cool Their protocol lets you to buy gift cards directly with crypto and spend them with major retailers like Amazon, Starbucks, Playstation etc. with no fees.
Can anyone explain how they plan to protect the privacy of the buyers. If we use them as a proxy for our online shopping, will they somehow link our bitcoin addresses with the gift cards we purchase from them? This is an important point regarding privacy, because the next step is shopping on Amazon, where you have to enter your private data to receive the shipment.
842  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: AMD EPYC 7401P max hash rate ? on: April 23, 2018, 06:58:37 PM
What is max hash rate of AMD EPYC 7401P ?

Now i have  1708h/s on monero. I have huge pages disabled, if i ennable huge pages hash rate go down to 1400h/s.

I use cnrig minner based of XMRig.

Tnx.

My cpu here: http://bit.do/eezBN

For a CPU it seems to be a fantastic hash rate.

Considering for example how intel I9 stands:

Quote

I9 7980 XE:                        hashrate   1214 h/s   software: XMR - STAK CPU MINER
INTEL I7 5960X @ 4.6GHZ    hashrate   750 h/s     software: CLAYMORE CRYPTONOTE V3.5 BETA

843  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Tips on how to choose a Good bounty campaign on: April 23, 2018, 06:22:59 PM
They have some bounty campaigns that the result is scam or the bounty payment do not send by the manager.

1. Read the white paper. This is an advantage that a good project include in this white paper. The whole idea is circulating in this part.

2. Road map. Check the road map if they do the same date and the plan in a campaign. This is represent the willingness of the developer to finish its plan.

3. The manager. Check the manager if they have a past campaign that it managed. A good manager is have updated every time if there was a problem. It is easy to help if they have a problem.

4. Community. A strong community can help a project be the best. If they have more supporters, likers or followers thats a good campaign. Some of the successful project is have a strong community.

I think you will get some information about my post. But i sudgest you to help me to skip this rank by giving some merits. Thank you

Your tips are not bad, but I would suggest not to beg for merits. It will not help you, quite the contrary.
Even if someone found your post of excellent quality, they wouldn't give you merits just because you asked.

Let me share one additional tip how to find a good bounty campaign:

5. Look for established users of higher rank and a great number of earned merit points. Check the signatures they wear. They have most likely selected the best bounty campaigns already.
844  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is the first bitcoin billionaire? on: April 23, 2018, 04:54:24 PM
I believe satoshi deleted all of his coins,
What do you mean deleted? How can one delete coins? Coins are nothing but unspent transaction outputs. They are still there in the public ledger. The only thing he could have done is burn his private key(s) so no one can access them ever. If indeed is true that he did own so many of them.
845  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: why to the moon?not to the sun, stars or mars? on: April 23, 2018, 04:44:09 AM
Simply because it is a phrase. According to this urban dictionary, the expression "to the moon" means:

Quote
to the highest degree; utterly totally; to the max.

and there is the phrase, "to the moon and back", as in "He loves her to the moon and back"
which people use when they want to express something which is huge, or to measure something which is hard to measure, something unmeasurable.
846  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why does Bitcoin keep using SHA256 in its POW? on: April 23, 2018, 04:19:06 AM
Having a stack of hashing algorithms would probably solve that problem. Take a pool of proven hashing algorithms, then randomly choose several in a series of hashing operations to constitute Bitcoin's PoW. Arbitrarily change the hashing algos within the series after a minimum of 3 months (not with another hard fork, build that behaviour directly into the consensus rules). CPU's or GPU's could be adapted to that, but an ASIC would be conventionally impossible.

I remember the concept of periodically switching PoW algorithms being discussed before, but I'm not sure if that discussion ever came to any meaningful conclusion. Are there any alts that have been attempting this approach?

847  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why does Bitcoin keep using SHA256 in its POW? on: April 22, 2018, 09:11:16 PM
What do you mean by "stability"? Big rock is more stable then small stone. Read-only file is quite stable comparing to one where anyone can write anything.
Blockchain is not about stability, it's about consensus. And if suddenly tomorrow someone having ten times more hashpower will decide to rewrite the entire blockchain - it is not a bug, it's a feature, and it's there by design.
I wouldn't discard the issue of stability so easily. To reply to your comment, there is an interesting medium article. It nicely illustrates the
concerns and danger of Bitcoin's centralization and having a lot of hash-power concentrated in the hands of several entities.
848  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Im trying to avoid coinbase. on: April 22, 2018, 07:47:30 PM
I am not sure why would you use Coinbase as a wallet.

Exactly. I can't understand why it is so difficult to distinguish between an exchange and a wallet.
Coinbase is an exchange (website), not a wallet.
Electrum is a wallet (computer program), not an exchange.
See, really easy to distinguish.
People stop storing your coins in an exchange. Store them locally, on your computer in a wallet.

What is the best crypto wallet with the lowest fees and fastest transaction time?

A good wallet will set reasonable fees so that your transaction is received in a reasonable period of time. But in the end, you are free to set the fees manually.
The transaction times will depend on the fees. If you set them too low, the transaction time will increase. The reason is that miners prefer to include transactions with higher fees in the blocks they mine.
849  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Linux live usb for trading crypto (not for wallets) on: April 22, 2018, 02:28:09 PM
But be careful with the built-in wallet. It took several months for them to update the wallet to the most updated version (this version of electrum was vulnerable to exploits).
I can confirm this. When I installed Tails, the built-in Electrum was an older version ( 2.7.9 if I'm not mistaken).
But the really annoying part was that it wouldn't sign transactions.
Being an amnesic operating system, Tails also would not allow you any new installation. That is, you would have to reinstall a new version of Electrum every time you restart your computer.
850  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: About a new Coin on: April 22, 2018, 09:36:42 AM
I understand that, i mean, but would't ve great if actually a "leader" (honestly I kinda dislike that word) listen not just the community but the people who actually are going to do something with the product. I mean if we look at big companies like google, facebook and so, they are so disconnected from reality. The creators in youtube are upset about the complete lack of transparency, and facebook... well it's all over the news.

I get your point about the importance of transparency and listening to the community. A strong community can help a lot. That's for sure. But your coin also has to solve a real problem if it's going to last.

I have a deep interest in proof of capacity. but i think is not bullet proof, dont really know if it works by now.

Proof of capacity is a nice concept but we yet have to see a sustainable solution. The only real implementation seems to be Burstcoin. I think it is still early to say how it will develop.

851  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Some Common Beginners' Misconceptions on: April 22, 2018, 07:42:22 AM
I just felt the need to clarify that because some newbie may read this and be under the false impression of absolute safety regardless of the choice of software and services.
Thanks for that. Totally agree with your clarifications and improvements of point #2. The ways newbies tend to interpret things is really astonishing. And when people have no technical background at all, it's even harder. They can easily be confused and get all sorts of crazy ideas.
852  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Earn Crypto for Providing Info with Bitfortip! on: April 22, 2018, 05:51:07 AM
First of all if we are talking about Bitfortip, three should also be a link to their website. It took me a while to find it on your website. Second of all, it would have been nice if there was an example of actual use case in the article about Bitfortip you wrote on your website. What I would like to know is, for example: Have you made any money with them? Or maybe you know someone who has. How much do they pay? It would be better to know more details in advance.
853  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: About a new Coin on: April 22, 2018, 05:39:29 AM
In any case, you can focuss on such a currency but that will mean you need to target developers who understand the technicalities and can always offer help.
Exactly my point too. You need skillful developers by your side. Community is fine, but they are in no position to make major decisions. Even if you closely listen to what your community wants, it all comes down to a good team of a few people (developers) around you. And sometimes, what the community thinks is best, isn't really. One genius developer is worth more that all the communities in the world. When Satoshi started Bitcoin, there was virtually no community of this type. Yes, he communicated his ideas with some mailing lists (highly specialized around cryptography), just to get feedback regarding his future project. But in no way did they crucially impact his brilliant ideas. So yes, community is needed, and good interaction is needed, but start looking for a good team if you are really serious about creating your own coin.
854  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: No token balances found on: April 21, 2018, 01:31:16 PM
Although, you can create a paper wallet but it is not a secure step for a beginner then better to follow some guides:
Why do you think a paper wallet is not a secure option for beginners?
Paper wallets are among the most secure wallets, for beginners of otherwise.
Here is a nice guide I think a beginner can follow:

https://hackernoon.com/securely-generating-and-storing-an-ethereum-wallet-907bcbd8e5ae

It is much better for every beginner to invest some time to figure out how to store their coins securely, than to rush and use unsafe solutions.
855  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin HD Wallet and Privacy on: April 21, 2018, 01:19:10 PM

What do you mean by all? The adresses?

From my understanding; they don't "lead" back, but are rather just generated from one keypair. I don't think it is a two way function, so there's no way to get the MPK with just a child private key.

Thanks for the correction. I didn't mean that one could guess the parent keypair from their child pairs, however, my wording was misleading.
856  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin HD Wallet and Privacy on: April 21, 2018, 01:14:53 PM
It's an irrelevant argument since the privacy would be compromised anyways if the master public key is leaked. You've got bigger problems to worry when someone has both your child private key and master public key.

I was under the impression that the safety of the Master Public Key is not so essential. After all, it is used to create a watch-only wallet.
I get it that all child private keys should be kept safe, the same way one should keep safe the master private key.
What if just the Master Public Key is leaked without a child private key?
857  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Bitcoin HD Wallet and Privacy on: April 21, 2018, 10:52:30 AM
If I use a hierarchical deterministic (HD) wallet, like Electrum, I get a huge number of addresses.

Obviously each address has to correspond to a public key, and also each public key has to correspond to a private key.

I understand that there is a well ordered sequence of private keys and similar well ordered sequence of public keys. The child key in this sequence is derived from the previous, parent key.

They all lead back to just one original public key and just one original private key.

Now the question:

Say I pick up a random address from the pool of addresses that my wallet has generated. I use it to pay something.

Say I choose another address and use it to pay for something else.

Is there a direct way to correlate these two addresses?
Is there a way to tell that they are from the same wallet?
Is there an indirect way to do the same?
What's the best practice as far as privacy is concerned when using your HD Wallet generated addresses?
Is it enough to pick a new address every time?

Thank you in advance!

858  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: hidden gem on: April 21, 2018, 10:15:43 AM
In order to find a hidden gem in real life, you would have to search, to dig into the dirt and mud, and spend a lot of time doing that. And there's no guarantee that you will find one.
The same is true with hidden gems in the crypto-space. You have to do your own due diligence, your own research to increase the chances of finding one.
How tiresome is going through thousands of white papers, checking the team of developers, estimating the utility value of the tokens.
No one is going to deliver the solution on a plate. There's no such thing.
859  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: No token balances found on: April 21, 2018, 09:56:00 AM
thanks for your reply, but i think u didnt get me.
my problem is simple
I have some appc in binance, how should i check its balance from outside , a block explorer such as blockchain info for bitcoin , etherscan and ethplorer are ones i think.
should i check the balance of the  deposit address? when i do this there is no token in it . why?

If you have them on binance, then you don't really have them on your own address. It's binance's address. Once you have transferred them to your own address (receiving address of your wallet, which is controlled by your own private key), you can check them using an online tool such as ethplorer. Then you would be able to put your address and check the amount of tokens.

Edit. I don't really think that you can use their deposit address. They might be using it for other people's coins. Not sure about this, maybe someone can clarify this further.
860  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Need help about cryptonex coin on: April 21, 2018, 09:50:10 AM
You might want to check this bitcointalk post about how long you would have to wait till your coins mature. I've never used this particular coin, but it seems that the waiting time is inversely proportional to the amount of coins you currently own. Hope this helps.
