621  Economy / Gambling / Re: MMM-2011 hugest Ponzi scheme :: Bitcoins accepted on: April 30, 2012, 08:42:42 PM
So if I gave you $1 and kept it in for 8 years I would get back.
($1)*1.4^(12*Cool = ~100T.  The entire global money supply?
Yep Smiley But Mavrodi thinks MMM will absorb global money supply much earlier. 42 months - he estimates. Like Dragon in Bibile Apocalypse.
"Like Dragon in Bibile Apocalypse." Oh man that made me laugh. Thanks.

I don't get why anyone would be dumb enough to put their money into something that is so up front about being a ponzi...
622  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: block origin, which pool mined that block? on: April 30, 2012, 08:35:56 PM
Pools known to mark their blocks are: eligius, triplemining, ozcoin, slush, BTC Guild, Eclipse MC, BitLC, nmcbit, bitclockers and mkalinin
p2pool also marks their blocks with a special transaction.
623  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Funds “frozen” in TyGrr-Bot’s MtGox account. on: April 30, 2012, 08:31:21 PM
Use another exchange. It's known in the forum that MtGox is freezing some clients assets at their will.
Running an arbitrage bot without including the largest exchange would not be optimal.  Besides, it looks to me like Gox was just doing their due diligence.  Better that they froze the account and then deal with it quickly than potentially letting funds be stolen IMHO.

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison

The 6450 is listed at a pathetic 27 MH/s

That's just as bad as most NVIDIA cards Sad
625  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What Bitcoin client do you use? on: April 30, 2012, 08:14:14 PM
the latest bitcoind and/or Armory
626  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help? Get Mining Again on Ubuntu Precise Pangolin 12.04 on: April 30, 2012, 08:10:36 PM
I don't know about the drivers or anything, but I recently installed bitcoind and p2pool on 12.04.

bitcoind compiling was easy. I just had to use a newer version of libdb

Code: (https://gist.github.com/2503687)
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y git-core build-essential libssl-dev libboost-all-dev libdb5.1-dev libdb5.1++-dev libgtk2.0-dev

git clone https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin.git
cd bitcoin/src

make -f makefile.unix clean; make -f makefile.unix USE_UPNP= bitcoind
# from #bitcoin-dev:
# sacarlson: USE_UPNP= : don't build upnp, USE_UPNP=0 : build but disable by default, USE_UPNP=1 : build but enable by default

# optionally,
strip bitcoind
627  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Mine in multiple pools to reduce variance on: April 30, 2012, 04:50:31 PM
Edit: Nope Sad Still > 30% rejects.

To clarify you are getting low reject rate using p2pool directly but higher reject rate when using the proxy?
Correct

Quote
If so the proxy may be adding too much latency.  Is the reject rate higher on other pools when also using p2pool?  If so the proxy may be getting "confused" by p2pool LP (~98% of p2pool LP involve no block change).
I'm pretty sure it has to do with LP since the reject rate is horrible for all the pools when p2pool is enabled. I don't know what to do to BitHopper to make it not confused. I was going to try a different mining proxy, but none of them seemed actively maintained.
628  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Flexible mining proxy on: April 30, 2012, 05:14:38 AM
apologies for resurecting an old thread..

is this still being updated / mantained?  Is there a better mining proxy out there?   I've now got 6 rigs I'm managing, and soon to be expanding further... having one central location to view stats & manage pools would be a godsend...

thanks,
Sigg

I use this proxy and it works well enough for me. It's a shame that it's not still actively developed, though.

I took a look at the various forks on Github and it looks like virtualcodewarrior's is the most recently updated, but the last commit was Aug 21, 2011... Still, it might be worth a look (I haven't looked at it yet).

I second the question, is there a better proxy out there? Should we start a bounty or something? Are there any major problems with the proxy that need fixing?
Any progress on this?
629  Economy / Goods / Re: Maple Syrup [SPECIAL PROMO INSIDE] on: April 30, 2012, 05:00:01 AM
I got my order.  The maple peanut brittle is really good!
Wow that was quick lol I guess USPS still has some surprises left!! Don't forget the promotion expires tomorrow night Smiley
I'd actually gotten it the day before! USPS was really fast!
630  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Mine in multiple pools to reduce variance on: April 30, 2012, 04:42:42 AM
edit user.cfg with an entry line for each pool

percent:XX

where XX = 100 / # of pools enabled

for p2pool you should use p2pmining as it is the only node offering difficulty 1 shares, if you don't use diff 1 shares BH will end in a mess as it hops between pools counting shares(diff 1 shares)
p2pmining.com would work, but it isn't needed.  You can just add "/1" after your worker's username and that does the same with the current version of p2pool.

However, I did set difficulty 1 shares and I still got a horrible reject rate.  I think its because of the massive amounts of longpolls.

Use +1 not /1 to the end of your username.
Oh nice. Thanks.

Edit: Nope Sad Still > 30% rejects.
631  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Solo + p2pool roation - cgminer on: April 30, 2012, 12:16:39 AM
- 180 MH/s is not enough to do solo mining.  You're better of mining in a pool.  Your variance will be too high.
I`m getting about 0.015 BTC per block... it is 10x more than i get from slush pool. But still to make 50BTC i need 9 YEARS of pooled mining. Thats why i want to try solo aside of pool.
Just FYI, that is the exact opposite reason most people solo mine. You you will likely never see any BTC. And definitely none before the reward halves in December.

Heres hoping for an ABB (Atheist Bank of  Bitcoin).
I'd say most banks are godless Wink
633  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Solo + p2pool roation - cgminer on: April 29, 2012, 06:57:14 PM
- You should consider p2pool as solo mining: higer profits with higher variance.  I would only use a real centralized pool if I'd only have 180MH/s, as p2pool has a higher difficulty.
FTFY
634  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin is strangling my computer on: April 29, 2012, 06:55:14 PM
Why is the actual bitcoin client so cumbersome?Without having the 'generate' function turned on, it seems pretty lightweight to me.
I usually find just the initial blockchain download cumbersome.  After that, my system runs fine, but I also have a pretty powerful system.

Each block has to be verified, and doing this requires a bunch of math that can slow a CPU down.

blockchain.info is a web wallet that gives you full control of the private keys if you don't want a full desktop app.
637  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it good to have one currency across borders ? Friedman says No. on: April 29, 2012, 04:38:13 PM
Heh, this is where the red herring was thrown in. I added a wink emoticon and someone had to start a major troll over it. I fell for it because I was bored and I was on my mobile.
There was no "major trolling" done by anyone in this topic... Except maybe by you.  You brought up crime and trolling and silk road and even Atlas... Take a breath...
638  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it good to have one currency across borders ? Friedman says No. on: April 29, 2012, 04:35:05 AM
Can you *prove* the identity of any Bitcoin transactions?
There's plenty of published addresses.  For example, my firstbits are in my signature.  You can see I've sent a few transactions with that address.

https://blockchain.info/tx-index/4401755/cd7f8895d2a3ad006972105f596fd7cd4661f1f81a6ae370bf7d14f79ef7db03

This transaction links a bunch of my addresses and clearly contains a donation to Armory.
Since I don't know you from Atlas, I'll just have to take your word that those addresses did not pass through a criminal's nose.
I wasn't talking about criminal activity at all.  I was stating that I can prove the identity of some Bitcoin transactions and you asked if "any" could be.
I really don't know what you are saying. In science and the real world, nothing is proven. You are asking me to believe you, which I probably do.
Now I have no idea what you are saying. Nothing is proven? What?
You show me some anonymous addresses that you could have found anywhere and claim they are yours. OK, so what? That proves nothing. If you are going to make a claim, then you need to offer testable evidence that can be verified independently. One possible way would be to give me your private keys and I could see for myself.  Tongue

He could sign a statement with the addresses' privatekey to verify himself.
So he is using a signature to prove that Silk Road doesn't exist? OK, I'll bite. Besides, that doesn't prove they are his only that he has access to them. This is getting silly trying to explain epistemology and the scientific method to a troll. You can't prove things in RL, you can only show evidence. In mathematics, you can prove perfect geometric shapes, but you cannot find them in nature. Proving an address exists doesn't prove anything about how it is used. Geeks get awfully goddam arrogant sometimes thinking they have answers for everything with a simple algorithm or formula.
Proving silk road doesn't exist? wtf are you going on about...

640  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [15 GH/s]P2Pmining.com-Hybrid standard and P2Pool-NMC/IXC/I0C/DEV on: April 28, 2012, 06:23:37 AM
switched over to CG miner and im getting terrible MH/s Rates.. like 100Mh vs the 250~ i was getting with the same clocks and stuff on just GUI miner.. my setting look like this
CGminer 2.3.3

Looks like it's working now on the current miners http://p2pmining.com/?method=pool#ui-tabs-4

How did you fix it?

was running GUI miner at that time to not waste time

and i have a 7850

managed to push it to 200 Mhash/s

Code:
	}
],

"intensity" : "5",
"vectors" : "3",
"worksize" : "256",
"kernel" : "poclbm", \\borrowed from GUI miner
"temp-cutoff" : "95",
"temp-overheat" : "85",
"temp-target" : "75",
"api-port" : "4028",
"expiry" : "120",
"gpu-dyninterval" : "7",
"gpu-platform" : "0",
"gpu-threads" : "1",
"log" : "5",
"queue" : "2",
"retry-pause" : "5",
"scan-time" : "60",
"temp-hysteresis" : "3",
"shares" : "0",
"kernel-path" : "/usr/local/bin"
}

if anyone can comment on this new set i would greatly appreciate it.. seeing as im still missing around 50 Mhash/s but the vector seems to like staying at 2-3 as any time i take it up to 4-6 my hash rate drops tremendously
like D&T said, try phatk2 for your kernel. And is vectors 3 a value that you put, or one cgminer generated? You should let cgminer generate as much as possible; it is most always right.
