A little off topic but it would be a great if the new forum software could pick up on identical posts coming from the same user, autoban them for a set amount of time and notify staff about it. It would cut down on occurrences like this, plus make staff jobs easier by not having to delete as many spam posts.

Probably be hard too. They would just add characters to each repost, to disguise it self from the filter. For example, adding a "-" every single new post. I guess a system which could prevent people from posting a post consisting of 75%+ of the same content could be blocked, or put on a queue to be approved. I don't know if it's needed though, not many instances like this. A few and they normally get dealt with pretty quick.
6222  Other / Meta / Re: Spam Bot to Hack users on the Forum on: August 07, 2015, 04:09:21 PM
This isn't allowed. This will be removed when the appropriate staff member comes online in fact someone of them have already been removed in section where the moderator has high enough privileges.  Probably be banned too.
6223  Other / Off-topic / Re: Fallout 4 on: August 04, 2015, 06:48:59 PM
15th of August Fallout Shelter is available to download for Android devices. Should tide us over until Fallout 4 comes out. I'll possibly be replaying Fallout 1 to New Vegas again, missing out Brotherhood of steel (PS2) and Fallout Tactics.
6224  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin Price Ticker on Forum Top on: July 27, 2015, 07:01:50 PM
This has been discussed a few times, it seems the general attitude to the suggestion is that we don't need it, and it's simple enough to open another tab to an external ticker. Even if it was to be added, I would imagine it would be very low priority and wouldn't be considered until the new forum has been completed, and throughly tested.
6225  Other / Meta / Re: Spams and Scams on: July 19, 2015, 05:32:25 PM
Multiple account creations should definitely not be allowed but this forum believes that everyone needs their privacy and hence they can create an alt account and share their opinion without causing any harm to their main account. Also, when one account gets banned temporarily, a user is allowed to create a new account and appeal. Besides this, there has not been any specific reason given why these alt accounts should be created. It doesn't benefit the community nor the other users and instead it gives rise to more spam and scam.

With regards to scamming, I have stated many reasons earlier as to why it should be moderated but now I've just given up on it. I prefer using an escrow now instead of getting scammed.

Alternate accounts are allowed for multiple reasons, one which I would 100% agree on is too allow users to share unpopular views and opinions without it being linked to their main account.

Account farming for the intent to sell on afterwards or other 'malicious'(?) acts is an entirely different matter. Although, account sales are allowed, so as far as I'm aware account farming is allowed. Although both are frowned upon by the community.
6226  Other / Meta / Re: Spams and Scams on: July 19, 2015, 11:44:06 AM
There is without a doubt users creating many forum accounts aiming to sell them at a later date, it's the latest craze. Although, limiting it would be very difficult and not efficent. People can change their IP's using VPN's. Although the forum does have a 'evil points' system, that only works for known VPN'S. So, there are things put into place to prevent abuse, but it will never stop or prevent or be an hinderance to the user who is creating the accounts.

I would say keep the system as it is, let the users who are creating the accounts get lazy, if they are creating hundreds of accounts, then I would assume they want it done as quickly as possible and would get lazy making it easier to notice, and allow  the moderators to note down the alternate accounts, I'm not sure on the policy of mass creation of accounts but as far as I'm aware it's not against the rules, unless the person was banned on another account as that would fall on the ban evading rule.

I not sure about the current settings, but does it require an email to sign up? If not, then it should.
As far as I remember, yes it does require an email to sign up, however there is no email verfication.

Many posts in the Investors Based Games section always have newbies that posts there. Not saying every newbie there is an alt, but they might be created just to bump the post
This would probaly be easily reconised after a while, and would be dealt with by the moderators.

Scams shouldn't be removed at all, there's too much room for abuse and mistakes. Mistakes do happen and someone with a legit business could have a few false accusations against them with fabricated evidence which looks to be solid at first glance, if it was removed and later found out the evidence was false, then the moderators would get that in the neck.

6227  Other / Meta / Re: How can I delete a topic? on: July 09, 2015, 03:02:24 PM
As far as I remember, you can delete a topic you created as long as no one else has replied. Certain boards also don't allow the topic to be deleted, although I'm not sure if "press" does this. Again, that's as far as I can remember, I'm pretty sure I've deleted a few of my topics, but can't be sure as I haven't done it recently.

A lot of speculation that the Fallout Shelter app will be released next month. Although, the official response a while back was in a few months time.  It looks like a good time waster when travelling or when you are waiting for something. It does interest me but, I don't really understand why it was released on IOS well before the android version, if anything I would of held off the release of it on IOS until both were ready.

Anyone had a chance to play it? If so what's your thoughts on it.

Bethesda also accepted the guy who sent the caps to them for Fallout 4, which I think is a pretty cool thing to do.

6229  Other / Off-topic / Re: Fallout 4 on: June 15, 2015, 10:06:19 PM
Waiting for the collectors edition now that it's been confirmed you will receive a pip boy which you can insert your phone into. I'll preorder the standard version though and keep the collectors edition sealed I think.

There's an app aswell, which I've forgotten the name of at the time being. You can be an overseer and manage a vault. Make sure the vault is watered, lighten, manage peoples specials by making them train on punch bags for strength and other things for different specials. I thought that this app was pretty cool, I haven't tried it yet as it's only on IOS  at moment. But, when it is released on android I'll give it a go. Minimal micro transactions too, which is always a good thing.

As for the gameplay itself, I'm extremely excited. The character creation looks fantastic, especially creating your wife I presume too, that was cool. Plus you get a generated baby based on the features you chose for each parent.

In depth crafting and building system looks fantastic, really hoping you can have other companions besides the dog, ordering the dog around looks good too. Especially when he picks up the wrench? and brings it to the player, plus the molerats digging up onto the surface was a nice feature.

Can't wait.

Ah, going to pre-order it on steam then. I was waiting for them to update. One thing I hated about all the Fallout is headshots where it treated like you were shooting them in the foot. I always installed "Realistic Headshots" so that basically one shot and they are put down.
6232  Other / Meta / Re: can I edit the Auction thread ? on: June 04, 2015, 08:41:47 AM
No you can't. It's to prevent users from editing terms and bids without the public eye knowing. However, you can lock an auction thread.
6233  Other / Off-topic / Re: Fallout 4 on: June 04, 2015, 08:24:43 AM
That's always the most annoying thing for me, the last thing you want is to have the outcome of your game rely on a fucking number, sure, that might suit you if you're ridiculously into D&D style RPGs but I'm pretty sure not everybody is going to be happy with that.

I'll tell you why, for me if a game has something at 99% chance, I will inevitably fail and it's all due to luck, my favourite one is when I'm attacking an enemy point blank and it's 95% or so then all of a sudden there's a "miss" and the character ends up getting killed, despite the enemy only having a 30% or so chance to hit.

Haha, I've always liked the chance based system. No matter how good you are at the speech skill you can still fail, which I feel is more realistic. Because, not everyone is going to fall for your attempted manipulation. I don't know I just liked it far more than the requirement. As for the chance to hit I never really play with vats I did through my first play through and a little throughout some of the play through when I got into a bit of trouble, usually deathclaws. I find it takes the edge off the game I don't know that's just me, it seems like I enjoy the parts that other people don't. Cheesy However, I don't want to see the vats system go, it's one of the things that make fallout, Fallout and it's cool to see some limbs fly off in slow motion now and again.

If Fallout 4 and Mount and Blade Bannerlord come out in 2016 it's going to be a good year for gaming, although this year has been pretty decent so far.
6234  Other / Off-topic / Re: Fallout 4 on: June 03, 2015, 07:26:10 PM
One thing I do hope that they take from the previous games is the speech check in Fallout 3, rather than the one from New Vegas. I always liked to be not 100% sure it's going to work, rather than meeting a requirement as in New Vegas. (I know this is controversial through the Fallout community)

I liked the endings on both games and I'm not sure which one I preferred. I believe I've finished the game with every single ending.

...Just got to wait for the release date announcement now.
6235  Other / Off-topic / Re: Fallout 4 on: June 03, 2015, 07:21:33 PM
I've been waiting for the announcement for a very long time. I liked the look of the trailer looks like there is a lot of detail and improvements made throughout. Hopefully, they'll have them certain side quests with interesting decisions or findings.

Graphics literally doesn't mean anything to me when you mention a Fallout game. It truly is the content with Fallout. There's not much games which can compete with the franchise. I'm really hoping they stick with the bleakness that Fallout 3 provided and the wacky content New Vegas had.

I've been playing the shit out of Tales of Two Wastelands which combines both the Fallout 3 wasteland and the New vegas one which you can travel between in the metro stations. Although, it's not really lore friendly due to when the games take place but, it's still the best mod I've played. Hopefully, the team will take on the new fallout and combine it with the current mod, that would be pretty cool.
6236  Other / Meta / Re: better feedback on report accuracy on: June 03, 2015, 06:01:13 PM
I didn't mean to start this topic as a competition about the metric.  My concern is that I'm being shown that sometimes I'm innaccurate, but I can't really tell which of my reports were the innaccurate ones.  That seems a little broken.  Why tell me at all if I can't use the information to improve?
Well, the accuracy system is feedback, although it may not be as in-depth as you were hoping for it's not useless it does give you a general idea of how you are performing, overall. The thing is with providing a in-depth feedback system which would allow you to see what was rejected and what reason it was rejected for, could potentially be subjective.  Therefore, if you see that x post got rejected by one moderator, you might refrain from reporting it again which in the eyes of another moderator could be a correct report. At least that's my interpretation of one of the issues.

Although, most of the posts on this forum are pretty straightforward, there are a few which pop up which are subjective, for example you feel that the post in question is better suited in another section, however a moderator disagrees and feels it's best where it is.
6237  Other / Meta / Re: better feedback on report accuracy on: June 03, 2015, 10:44:01 AM
I normally find out if an action has been taken or not. I frequently watch the modlog for any bans/deletions when an action does appear on there, or I always find out when I revisit the thread/board. I've kind of got to know when most staff come on and certain other members. Just keep up the reporting, if you have a good score >40%/60% then there isn't too much to worry about. The ones I do report are normally straight forward and you know that they are going to be moderated, but the ones that are controversial and aren't very regular. I'm sure if a moderator deals with your posts daily and recognises your not strong in one area, they'll provide some constructive criticism. If you have a good score you have a pretty good understanding of the moderation policy and what opinions the moderators share with you, so a feedback feature isn't that necessary in my opinion. Although, it could be a neat feature it the future.

Well first thing I want to address, is that the indicator isn't used for people to get competitive over. If you have 50 reports with 50% accuracy, that is still highly appreciated.
Reporting posts almost seems like it's a status thing now Tongue

If you have a question, send a pm to a moderator and ask. They will probably be able to give you a more thorough answer to a range of questions than you could extrapolate from accuracy %. Admins are always swamped, so my advice would be to shoot a pm off to the local moderator of the thread in question, or a global moderator. Always happy to fire off a pm to someone not trying to start some drama. Questions are a highlight of my day  Smiley
I've got to back this up, I've sent several questions over time to various different moderators and nearly all of them have got back to me with everything I wanted, only one/two haven't due to what I assume is that they are busy. I  contacted Salty in particular and he cleared up everything I asked and also gave me a few ideas on reporting habits.

Here's a quote for dear old Maged, which might interest you:
Your success rate doesn't actually matter all that much. If you're above 60%, we'll teach you the rest once you become a mod. As long as you can maintain that, quantity of reports is much more important than quality. Specifically, we're looking for people who report things during time periods where the reports aren't immediately acted on, because that indicates a need for additional moderators for that time block. People who report things during those time are far more likely to be chosen, and you're more likely to report during those times if you report more in general.

The new instalment is going to be announced in less that 24 hours!  I like what they've done with the countdown timer too, adds some tension. There's a lot of rumours at the moment where its going to be based and what features it might have.

I've been playing the shit out of Tales of two wastelands mod whilst waiting for this.

Some really nice lasers you've built. I've got to get one soon, although I'm not aloud at the moment. Apparently I'm buying too much stuff, Tongue But, that 15% off is very tempting.
6240  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bank ATM security? on: June 01, 2015, 09:29:56 PM
I know some ATM's have used XP, so it doesn't surprise me too much that it's running Windows 98. I believe most ATM use some version of Windows. There have been numerous attacks documented in the news over the years.

The reason they may still be running Windows 98 is due to the store not having enough funds in able to upgrade it. I would of thought they cost quite a hefty sum without bringing in much revenue.
