Congratulations to everyone who won, and got at least one vote! I hope to see some new names in the coming years! Massive fan of the yearly results, as it really does tend to get the community together, and encourage some positive results for the community.

Not sure I've recovered from Volk losing, especially in the way he did. I'm staying away from this next card though, at altitude, which I'm not entirely sure how much of a difference it makes considering the height. I've been at altitude, and much higher than where this is located, but I've never had to train at the intensity they do in the fight, so it's still a bit of a mystery to me how much it effects the fighters. Also, its a tight card anyhow, some huge favourites on the bookies side, but in reality I think most of the underdogs are a decent chance, and some of the odds should be closer. Anyway, dodging this card from a betting perspective.

Thank you for being a part of the community, a major one at that. We haven't directly communicating all that often, but you were definitely one of the major users in the community which contributed significantly. I'm sure you've helped many people on the forum as well as those passing by, and reading your posts. I'm sure, you've left just as much if not more of an impact in real life, than you have here.

I hope, that your remaining time will be as pain free as possible. I wish you, and your family a pain free few months as much as possible.

Walker has so much potential, but I feel he leaves his chin too open to be able to compete against the best of the best. If it wasn't for his wild style, which he has turned down a little bit in recent fights, he would probably be doing a little better against them. However, that turns down the entertainment factor, which is one of the reasons he's so popular. I thought the last stoppage was wrong, and might have actually been down to Walker not understanding the question or making a joke at probably the wrong time. However, that's walker for you. I'm really hoping he does well in this fight, but I'm worried about his open style compromising his chances. Since, he definitely does have a chance to win this.

Imho Poirier gonna be an easy target for Tsarukyan. For me Poirier looks like he is about to retire. Fights against Conor made him earn enough to lose motivation to win. KO by Gaethji only increased that wish to retire Cheesy Sub from Oliveira showed that his bjj black belt is from toys store. Arman gonna eat him.
I don't think Poirier is a easy target for anyone. He's still a top, top fighter. Although, you might be right that he's a little less motivated these days, but I can't say that for sure. He definitely showed up to the Conor fights that's for sure. He was definitely competitive with Justin before getting knocked out, definitely wasn't outclassed up until that moment.

Good fights this weekend. Early picks for me would be; Horth, Turman, Solecki, Joaquim Silva, Bobby Green, and Arman. However, that's without looking at any statistics or tape. I'll be looking a little more in depth closer to the end of the week, but I think Bobby Green is going to surprise a few people, and definitely has a chance.

Dern wins for me, she's the more rounded fighter. Plus, the last fight she looked a lot more aggressive than she usually is. Maybe, it was a statement before this fight, since Jessica is known to blitz her opponents. Jiri VS Alex Pereira has got to be the fight of the night. I'm just hoping it lasts a couple of rounds so we get to see the skill set of both fighters, and we don't get a flash knockout which is definitely possible with both of these men.

I just can't bet against Sterling in this match up, and he's at better odds than I was expecting; 1.40. Probably, due to Sean being a fan favourite, and a lot of the fans are backing him to win. I think he prefers decently well in the stand up, but Sterling at any point could decided to take it down to the mat, and I think he gets the submission pretty early into that. I'd say the safest bet is the double chance DEC/SUB, however I wouldn't rule out a TKO either.

Looks like a decent card though, should be fun.
9  Other / Meta / Re: Privacy Concerns, Can Administrators and Mods Access Personal Messages? on: August 16, 2023, 08:26:12 PM
As for personal messages which are reported; I don't know what personal message reports look like exactly, however it might be worth considering removing who reported it, so that at least prevents the moderator knowing whom it was too, unless it was otherwise stated in the personal message. However, that might be the default behaviour, I wouldn't know.

However, without reports from personal messages; problematic users could maliciously or send unsolicited personal messages which could potentially harm other users.

That being said, I think he takes a bad loss in this next fight.
Probably, I mean in a stand up fight he'll probably stand with the best of them. However, I don't see Sterling staying in a striking match, because he will know that's his worst chance of winning the fight. I imagine, there will be some wrestling thrown in which I don't see Sean having too many answers too. I imagine the betting odds will also reflect that, and it'll probably not be worth betting on the fight, unless you go for the upset, which I just can't see happening outside of a freak knock out early in the fight.

The Wonderboy fight being cancelled is a kick in the teeth. I was looking forward to that fight, since both of the fighters are some of my favourite fighters, and stylistically it would have made for a interesting match up. I was going with Wonderboy to get the win, but it was a big chance for Michel.

Michel, messed up though. This isn't the first time he has struggled to make the weight, and I expect he'll be in Dana's bad books for a while due to it. Good on Wonderboy rejecting the fight based on principles, though. Not making weight is part of the job, and I can understand missing it from time to time, but it shouldn't become a habit. Hopefully, Michel gets a wake up call, people sometimes get too complacent, and too comfortable especially since there's a lot of pressure on fighters to fight those that miss weight anyway due to all the work they put in, and for the fans.
13  Other / Meta / Re: how do mod get selected? do they get paid? on: July 29, 2023, 01:05:13 PM
Beauty contest, it just turns out there wasn't many contestants my year,  but yeah on a serious note theymos selects moderators based on whether the forum requires one. Obviously, frequent reporters will be on top of that list, but ultimately theymos is the only one who knows all the criteria. I expect, there's quite a few different factors that play into it.
14  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: July 26, 2023, 01:25:51 PM
Altitude of 1,300m is probably not high enough to make a significant difference, but good point, it might be a slight advantage to Gaethje.

If 1300m is correct, then it isn't going to make any sort of measurable difference. It's extremely unlikely you experince altitude sickness at that height, and isn't all that much of a difference from where most people live. I know there's been fighters who have claimed certain venues made it difficult for them, but they're usually closer to 2000-2500m. However, again within that range you don't typically see many people effected by it; so it could just be them making bad connections, and actually not the real reason they struggled.

Anything greater than 2500m is where those concerns become real, but I don't think there's many venues if any at all that reach that level, at least not in the UFC. I might be wrong, considering they're professional athletes, and even a very slight edge could possibly make a difference, but for most people you aren't going to be that effected at those elevations.

I'll be going with Poirier for the next headliner. Justin is an incredible fighter, but I find he winds up too much a lot of the time on his shots, and that'll likely play into the hands of Poirier who's a lot more calculated. Obviously, Justin has the durability, and the power to beat anyone so it'll always be a good fight when he's involved. I expect a good fight, and I don't think either fighter will lose by a landslide. Obviously, a knockout is always on the cards, but I think we'll get a well matched fight before that happens, I can't see anyone getting flashed KOed in this fight. Hopefully not, I want to see a war between the two. I like both fighters, so it's going to be hard seeing one of them lose, anyway.

I've just caught up on the highlights of the fights, looked like a decent night especially for some of the underdogs. I know Molly is a fan favourite so I imagine a lot of fans tripped up on that one, and it likely destroyed quite a few accumulators. I've missed the fight nights the last few weeks I've been on vacation. So, looking forward to next event, which looks like a proper good night on paper. Hopefully, it delivers. Tricky night to bet though.

Kai got robbed in my opinion. I don't even think it was close, except for the one submission attempt Albazi didn't do a awful lot. He got massively outstruck, and failed to make his takedowns for much of the fight. I had a decent night of predictions, but I was let down by that flash KO of Jamie. That was probably one of my more confident picks of the night too. To do that on your debut though, that's quite impressive. I'm annoyed at Jamie though, he gets way too confident, and forgets to defend.
18  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: June 03, 2023, 08:09:58 PM
Who's your guys most confident picks? I feel like this event is a rather slippery slope, and I don't really have a whole lot of confident picks. I might just run a double or treble at this rate, and hope for the best. I know next weeks event has a lot more enticing fights, I just won't be able to watch it unfortunately, so won't be betting on it.
19  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: June 01, 2023, 09:03:54 PM
Here's my super early predictions, with no research whatsoever. Please, don't follow my predictions, ever Cheesy.

Amir Albazi
Alex Caceres
Jim Miller
Tim Elliott
Karine Silva
Jamie Mullarkey
Elizeu Zaleski
John Castaņeda
Andrei Arlovski
Johnny Munoz Jr.
Elise Reed
Luan Lacerda
Maxim Grishin

These are particularly awful picks. I'm going for a lot of the underdog, older fighters here. So, take that as you will.

One of these days we're gonna win a full event parlay and then they'll take us a lot more seriously.  Cheesy  A guy can dream, right?
We'll be too busy sitting on the beach with a few Pina Colada's. I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon. I have had some decent wins though, but they definitely don't come around very often, and are often offset by the many losses. We all know that familiar feeling don't we.
20  Other / Meta / Re: Are there proper template for ban appeals? on: June 01, 2023, 08:54:18 PM
I'm all for standardizing things when it makes sense, but in this case I feel this would just make ban appeals blend into each other, rather than seeing someone actually remorseful of being banned. Obviously, remorse doesn't mean you'll get unbanned, but depending on the circumstances I feel having something that they've constructed themselves rather than following some sort of template, helps.

At the end of the day, I don't think a lot of ban appeals get uplifted. I would think it's the minority were genuine mistakes were made or there was unknown mitigated circumstances that the moderator didn't know at the time. Obviously, this is an assumption on my end as I don't have any experience with how it's handled here on the forum. However, knowing the forum doesn't like hard rules, but rather guidelines to avoid loop holes, I feel like a lot of bans aren't overturned on an appeal, but I can definitely see where certain instances would be.

A template doesn't really achieve much from that point of view.
