6301  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Funding core development on: April 14, 2015, 04:09:39 PM
People are capable, but all these capable people left to go earn money doing something else.  The core dev team is nearly totally gone on other projects leaving a serious shortcoming regarding the advance of the entire bitcoin system.  This notion that 'open source' will attract people to stay up late and work hard for free - just doesn't work.

I think I would have to disagree. There are a lot of successful projects which are open source. Open source is the way to go in the future. It isn't about a certain few members staying up late or contributing more. It's about a wide range of people contributing to each others work in order to advance it for the better.

I know striping the miners fees would only hurt Bitcoin, miners are essential for Bitcoin to work and no miner is going to take a loss and work for free. Where are the core developers are not taking a loss necessarily.
6302  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Funding core development on: April 14, 2015, 03:57:19 PM
Why don't people just contribute to core development instead? Fees for mining are necessary. Although, you would have to be pretty advance to contribute to core development, it's still something some people are very much capable of doing.

Even contributing towards development by suggesting and providing feedback is a great way to start. Without feedback from the community, the software has limitations because of the developers wants/needs and their aspirations.
6303  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Losses on: April 14, 2015, 01:02:57 PM
The only Bitcoin that I've lost is when inputs.io pulled their little scheme. Otherwise, I've been solid. At least the inputs.io incident taught me even storing very small amounts is a bad idea. I can't remember the exact amount but it was no more than 10.

The accepted practice of doing a money, for account trade is this:

1. Seller, buyer & escrow state their terms and are agreed upon by all parties. This includes the buyers sending address & the sellers receiving address.
2. Seller sends the credentials to the escrow.
3. Escrow confirms that the account has been sent and the credentials and the stated terms are met.
4. Escrow changes the account credentials and notifies the buyer that the payment can be sent.
Now, in my opinion, the escrow doesn't need to hold the money, all he needs to do is hold the account details. The money can be transferred from the buyer to the seller. Because the escrow has confirmed that the terms have been met, e.g activity, posts and feedback. So there is no need for the escrow to hold any Bitcoin.[/i]
5. Buyer/Seller notify the escrow that the money has been sent/received.
6 Escrow checks whether this is true. If it is he releases the account to the buyer.

That is actually a complicated and risky step

By holding the account it means to change the account password, it will then show up in the seclog, there is harm that the buyer will back out after noticing the username of the account. best thing to do is tht escrow hold both bitcoin and account . Bitcoin will be release after the buyer confirm that he got full control of the account

Even if he knows the account name after changing password, there is no harm since he sent payment already

No one can get scammed. You just return the account back to the seller. I've never had a problem, and people who have used myself have always preferred to send the money directly. It's not the most confidential way as someone can find out the name before purchasing this way, but this is all agreed in advance. If someone does want me to hold the money, then that isn't a problem. That comment I included because I normally let the seller decide which they would prefer. I do agree though, and that's why the seller is given an option.
6306  Other / Archival / Re: quickseller on: April 13, 2015, 11:33:14 AM
I don't agree on giving a negative for backing out of terms of an escrow. There was no Bitcoin/information stolen. Because someone disagrees on terms doesn't mean it merits a negative rating. At most I would put a neutral with a warning that a successful escrow wasn't completed (even though that's probably not needed)  So, I don't think it's the correct decision to give a negative for simply backing out of a deal. Yes it's not very professional or ideal for the buyer/seller but it doesn't seem like any damage was done or there was any intent of a malicious action.

I guess my point is that there was no risk involved with this, because terms weren't agreed on. Although having said that, the buyer did act very unprofessional in the way of dealing with it and he should understand that a escrow must have separate terms to the buyer/seller to cover their arse too. If you didn't change the password, then the account could be taken back by the seller. But, without changing the password you can't verify that they are selling the account that they claim to be. If the terms had been agreed and the an issue had occurred then a negative is fully justified. But simply not accepting terms doesn't justify a negative.

I don't think Quickseller was doing anything wrong, he's probably gone about it the correct way in most parts, some parts I would do differently. But, he's trying to make sure that both parties are safe and because worhiper wanted no password change that basically means the seller can claim that account back whenever he likes. Quickseller has in his terms that a password change is necessary which I totally agree on.

It seems worhiper initial thoughts might of been, Quickseller stating in his terms that a password change is not going to happen, therefore worhiper will not hold Quickseller responsible if the account is reclaimed by the seller after the initial escrow is completed (sending/releasing and confirming the account is accessible by the buyer). However, there is a flaw in that thinking, that as a buyer they can claim that they have not received the correct credentials for the account, even though they might have access to it and the buyer might ask for the escrow to not be completed and have his money transferred back to him. Quickseller because he hasn't had the credentials himself can't confirm  that worhiper has access to the account. This is the whole point of having a escrow in this sort of transaction. So, all Quickseller at this point can only assume and he would probably need to return the money back to the buyer, meaning the seller might have held up to his side of the deal, but because Quickseller can't verify that himself he would end up being scammed. There is a workaround for Quickseller, he would need to put into is terms that the seller agrees to this and that he completely understands the risk involved in this sort of process and that he will not hold Quickseller responsible if the deal does go sour because of the reason stated above. Although, personally I wouldn't want to do this. This has the potential to cause problems and isn't using a escrow to it's complete potential.

I can understand why Quickseller wouldn't want to do this to avoid future problems. I wouldn't want to go ahead with this sort of deal. Maybe that's why Quickseller has justified his negative because of the reason above, but that's acting on assumption rather than evidence. I like to think innocent until proven guilty.

Unless, I'm not completely understanding what went on. Obviously, we as the community are only receiving partial information. I do believe that Worship might of misunderstood the process, and the risks of not changing the password.

Anyone who doesn't agree to those terms, doesn't use myself as a escrow. I wouldn't give them a negative for not agreeing to the terms. Seems that Quickseller was following these steps.
6307  Other / Archival / Re: Share your deleted posts on: April 13, 2015, 11:23:29 AM
I think he meant simply quoting the PM you will receive when a post is deleted and post it here.

I dunno if that is okay or not tho. Smiley
Probably not allowed. Don't get me wrong some people do it when they are disputing why a post was deleted, but normally a member of staff asks for it. This thread won't be contributing to unnecessary spam.
6308  Other / Meta / Re: Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ on: April 12, 2015, 08:49:50 PM
I found something whilst reading some old topics which I do from time to time and discovered a title naming guide by theymos. Might be worth mentioning in the original post. Pretty helpful. Somethings I'm guilty of not doing some of the recommendations.

Moderators here typically don't require you to use good titles for topics, but I thought I'd post some guidelines for anyone wondering how best to write a title.

Include enough info in the title so that readers can mostly guess what your topic is about. Try to condense your topic's main idea into a few sentences. Ideally, people should be able to write useful, on-topic replies by just reading the title (though this sometimes isn't possible).

Terrible titles include:
- "A question"
- "I was wondering..."
- "Someone help me"
These titles are better, though still not great:
- "A question about Bitcoin-Qt"
- "Survey of the community"
- "I have a problem with the forum"
These titles are good:
- "Bitcoin-Qt takes too long to start. How can I speed it up?"
- "Poll: What is your gender?"
- "Whenever I try to send a PM, the forum gives me an error"

When asking a question, never use a title like "How to send BTC"; it makes the topic look like a guide on how to do something instead of a question about how to do it.

Some people like to put "tags" in the title within brackets. Like "[GLBSE] [ANNOUNCE] ASDF: Generic asset". I personally don't like this style. I prefer to include the tag info within the sentence, like "Announcing ASDF, a generic asset on GLBSE". When tags are really necessary, it may indicate that a new subforum should be created.

Use normal capitalization, not "newspaper capitalization". "Thread title style guide" instead of "Thread Title Style Guide". Capitalize the first letter of the title unless it a trademark like "eMachines".

Omit unimportant leading words. "Selling $100" instead of "I'm selling $100". Other than that, it's best to write a grammatically correct sentence if doing so does not make the title annoyingly long.

If the title is composed of only one sentence, don't include a period at the end. If it contains two or more sentences, put a period after each sentence, including the last. Questions must end with a question mark.
6309  Other / Meta / Re: Report Comment Field on: April 12, 2015, 07:15:16 PM
lol. So I can't be a mod any time soon? Wink

You have reported 12 posts with 40% accuracy
I think I remember that being what 60% to be considered good enough to be a member of staff.  I just think a lot of users will avoid reporting controversial content just because they are not 100% sure and could get a bad report. That's not the way they should be thinking if they want to be a moderator, rather they should focus on helping out the forum rather than focusing on accuracy and rather the reason given and how much detail and effort was put in.

So don't panic if your accuracy isn't very high. To be honest you've only reported a very small amount so the accuracy will fluctuate very easily if a mistake was made etc. When you reach the 1000+ mark it seems like you've broken it because it won't move for months on end.

On topic: Seems like there isn't any limit and doesn't matter how many characters you put it won't become a problem visually for the moderators. So including my links to other sources should not be a problem from now on.

6310  Other / Meta / Re: Report Comment Field on: April 12, 2015, 06:50:52 PM

I understand the fact that what I may find spam, the MODs may not find it spam and hence my percentage is dropping.

However, some members make personal comments/attacks on other users, make bad comments about religion, help others to commit suicide, talk about drugs and so on and I report all those comments but I find that the reports are excluded and so I don't get what can be the reason as they being considered "BAD."

Also, what if half the number of my reports are "BAD", will the MODs start disregarding my future reports?

Just report what you think is against forum rules and what things need addressing. Accuracy means nothing. Only you see your accuracy unless you tell everyone.
6311  Other / Meta / Re: Inbox Size Limit? on: April 12, 2015, 02:51:22 PM
No. I have about 16,000 PMs in my inbox.

And I thought my inbox needed cleaning.
6312  Other / Meta / Re: Report Comment Field on: April 11, 2015, 10:03:30 PM
I've seen some pretty long ones before and never any that have seemingly been cut off so I'm sure you'll be ok. Why do you want to know exactly?

Cool. I find myself quite often finding people posting multiple topics in a short period of time and they've been missed. So, I was wondering if posting the reason for reporting & including all the links to the topics which are double posts. I've avoided doing this in the past due to thinking there might be some limitation, so reported 1, included 1 link. Then reported the rest the same way.

There are good reports with 4 character comments and bad reports with 7 line comments. If you feel longer explanation is needed there is no problem for our side.
I'm not looking to write you a story, don't worry about that  Wink. Just want to include some links to other sources.

Thanks for the responses everyone.
6313  Other / Meta / Report comment field limit question on: April 11, 2015, 09:02:50 PM
I've wondered this before, is there a character limit to the report comment field? I've refrained from going into more detail in some cases, for example posting links to back up why i'm reporting the thread/post. There doesn't seem to be a 'hard' limit which basically doesn't allow you to enter any more characters or deletes them. But, I'm not familiar with the report interface for moderators and was wondering whether if there is a limit or if including too many characters can make it act funny or cause a nuisance to the interface.

I would install a local instance of Simple Machines, but I know that this forum is modified and it's quite possible that the report function has been too, at least back-end.
6314  Other / Meta / Re: An exact/estimate reason why Bitcointalk doesn't load without VPN for me? on: April 11, 2015, 01:18:16 PM
What error is it reporting? Does it just timeout? Seems like this is a problem on your end. So checking your computer for the things below might be a good idea. There was a recent IP address change, so it might be the protection that theymos is using. They might be blocking your particular ISP or country.

There's a few things to check:

- Clear cookies & cache.
- Are you using HTTP Everywhere? Sometimes, this can mess up and case issues with certain sites, I don't think this is the case for this though.
- Check "hosts" file and alter if needed.
- Flushing the DNS
- Check if your ISP is blocking it

I've got two free gift packs, which I've just found in my desk draw. I don't think they have a expiry date. Because, I can't seem to find it on the card. But, I don't intend on playing it and therefore don't have any use for them. Send me a message if you want them. (I will be looking for more reputable members, because I feel someone would just say they want them when they don't even play otherwise)

Found someone who is interested, I've sent the codes.
6316  Other / Off-topic / Re: So is anyone actually planning on 'buying' GTA V? on: April 10, 2015, 01:11:30 PM
I purchased it on the ps4, I don't see any reason why I would need it on the PC now. The mods are obviously good, but I wouldn't buy it just for the base game.

6318  Other / Meta / Re: Remove All Faucets from Service Announcements on: April 04, 2015, 03:33:00 PM
Instead of a new section, which I don't think is warranted just for faucets, could they all be merged into one thread? Each faucet only allowed to post once. I just don't think it's justified to have a new section for something like faucets. Although, in it's current state, basically the majority in service announcements that may be the way to go. It wouldn't be so bad if something else could go in the new section, besides just faucets.

I know my suggestions isn't ideal either.

It is incredibly difficult to do, but it is POSSIBLE, and those who say otherwise are misinformed.
Or ignorant.
6320  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is it better to be honest and poor but not rich and dishonest? on: April 04, 2015, 02:02:55 PM
Very difficult question.
For normal, happy life, you need some money and good salary
I would have to totally disagree with this point. Many people are happy & live a 'normal' life if there is such a thing on either not working for anyone but themselves, or by doing jobs which are considered low standard by society, for example cleaning, although without the cleaners in hospitals everything wouldn't be sterile and not a safe place to treat people, so the so called high level doctors can't operate correctly.

But to answer the question of the subject, there are two answers. You either pick the moral route or financial route. None of these is better, it's a matter of perception.
