6341  Other / Meta / Re: On Post Bursting and Other Facets of the Term on: September 18, 2019, 03:18:49 PM
There was a member not too long ago who got negged (or booted from a campaign) for post bursting if I recall correctly, but I can't remember his name for the life of me.  And the thing was, he wasn't a shitposter.  He was in a campaign, true, but when I looked at his post history most of his posts were pretty well thought out and constructive.  The only issue was that he made something like 150 posts per week and people were saying he was a spammer.

When I look at my unread topics list, often I see the same names pop up in the "last posted by" column, and usually those are the ones who are making rapid-fire posts with little thought to them, and that often happens in the altcoin section.

So, if one user happened to reply on many topics in under 30 minutes, with constructive and helpful comments, would that still be considered as spamming/post bursting or no?
There are members who are essentially talented forum writers, ones who can write down their thoughts very quickly and lucidly--and they can probably type very fast as well.  As long as a post is constructive and on-topic, I don't see what the problem is.  From a campaign manager's standpoint, however, it's very much frowned upon to make multiple posts within the span of a few minutes--and in a lot of cases, it's against the rules of the campaign.

I tend to think a lot of members are trying to make the max number of posts for their campaign and are either trying to beat the weekly deadline or get their "work" done as quickly as possible.  Usually the outcome is a bunch of shitposts, but not always.
6342  Other / Meta / Re: chopper membership possible? on: September 18, 2019, 02:49:57 PM
Only "copper" membership is available. Cheesy
Lol, I thought for a minute that the Harley Davidson had replaced the Lamborghini as the main status symbol for bitcoin riches.  Or something--but nope, t'was a typo.

Axactly.
OP, you might want to edit this whole thing and correct your mistake before you get ridiculed even more.  And since you got your answer, locking this thread might be a good idea.  And good luck with the copper membership.  If you're unable to earn merits, it's definitely the way to go if you're a Newbie looking to get around Newbie restrictions.
6343  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Best exchange to Paypal on: September 18, 2019, 02:27:33 PM
If you want to cut out any third party fees and don't want to go through KYC, then use the currency exchange section.
That's always what I think when wanting to buy bitcoin with PayPal--but OP doesn't have any trade history, although he's an older member of the forum.  The problem, which I'm sure everyone is aware of, is that even escrow can't protect either party in a PayPal deal.  You really have to be a trusted member here in order to get PP deals done on the forum because everyone is so suspicious (and rightfully so).

If there was a better way than the currency exchange section to buy bitcoin with Paypal, I'd be all over it.  Unfortunately I haven't found one yet.  Fortunately there are a few members I've had repeat trades with who help me out from time to time, because they know I'm not going to scam them.  OP, if you can manage to get a few deals done here and get some feedback for them, it'll be a lot easier to do future deals.  But you probably realize that already--you're not a noob here.
6344  Other / Meta / Re: [TOP-200] Members who support newbies - Thanks! on: September 17, 2019, 10:41:29 PM
It's almost depressing that I'm number 12 here and have only helped out 5 newbies.  I actually made it a point to try harder to merit some newbies since the last time this data was posted, but as usual I have a very hard time finding posts good enough to merit.  I did feel pretty confident with the merits I handed out to the noobs this time around--their posts were pretty good if I remember correctly.  Props to the members who made it high on the list--it's still important to help out newcomers (but only if they're deserving).

My requirements for Newbies are really low: if I think it's a real user and not a spammer, I'll Merit him/her. I strongly believe that's what Bitcointalk (and Bitcoin) needs to grow long-term.
I agree with the second part of what you wrote, but I can't bring myself to lower my standards that much when it comes to low-ranked members.  While not all of them are spammers, I do think that the vast majority of their posts are of very low quality and are made primarily for bounties or signature campaigns, which has been the case for years now.
6345  Economy / Economics / Re: Which currency will dominate the crypto market? Please vote! on: September 17, 2019, 10:25:06 PM
The poll is total nonsense. Make one that's comprehensible.
Methinks it is meant as a joke.  And of course I had to vote "other" since the question is about the dominant currency of the crypto market, and the US dollar doesn't qualify, even if it's represented with a crap-ass shittoken such as Tether.

It's bitcoin, baby.  Bitcoin.  That's the only answer to the poll.  ETH might come in as a close second, but bitcoin is always going to be king--unless something better comes along and the devout bitcoin community disintegrates.  Neither thing is likely to happen, however.

And to make it more confusing, you don't have Bitcoin listed in your poll.
Yah it's a crap poll, no question.

Please consider USD as the dominating currency of our globe.
I wouldn't argue against that, but USD isn't a cryptocurrency and comparing bitcoin to USD is a case of apples and oranges.  Everytime I think of the two together, the only thing I can think of is that the US government is in the process of cranking out money as fast as they can, whereas no one can do this with bitcoin.  That's one of the amazing things about bitcoin IMO.
6346  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Btc is 1st then? Other Alts? on: September 17, 2019, 07:59:15 PM
I don't know what metrics you are using here.
He's probably not using any metrics but is instead just speculating wildly--just like most people here seemingly do.  Everybody has their favorite altcoin, sometimes for illogical reasons.

Neo
Yay, NEO!  Speaking of favorite altcoins, this is mine.  I'm not confident it's going to end up being an "ethereum killer" but I very much like the concept of earning GAS simply by owning some NEO without even having to have the wallet open.  I don't think there are any other coins like that, and if there are I'd love to hear about them.

I'm well aware of market caps being used as a metric for deciding which coins are the "best" but I tend to think it's a poor indicator.  That said, I would agree that a list of best coins below bitcoin would have to include ETH and probably at least the top ten on Coinmarketcap.  All of that could (and probably will) change with time.  I'm hoping NEO will move back up the list, but I'm not so sure these days.
6347  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Legendary member : iluvbitcoins. scam accusation on: September 17, 2019, 06:28:42 PM
This is not a fast track court. Let's hear the other side first.
That's what I'd prefer as well.  OP, you might want to drop him a PM and let him know about this thread.  If he can't properly explain this, he'll end up getting tagged and will probably have a flag against him.

Is iluvbitcoins still on DT or what?  I tagged him a while back, I think for account selling/buying, but I ended up removing the tag because it was an iffy call on my part--one of the few I regreted making.  Hopefully he didn't end up becoming a scammer, but we'll see what he has to say for himself.

He told me TWO times that i will get tracking number tomorrow. And like i said, 8 days have passed.
Yes, that may be true but something unexpected could have happened--you just never know.  And as you said, the bitcoin you sent hasn't been spent yet, so there's at least a possibility that something happened whereby he's unable to respond to you.  I know it probably doesn't look like it from where you're sitting, but I at least would rather hear his side of the story before tagging him.
6348  Other / Meta / Re: Is this concerning? This could be a conspiracy too. on: September 17, 2019, 06:15:55 PM
Should someone go all the way back to 2014 (5 years old) and report a post? Is this something to concern at all?
I wouldn't report a post that was that old, even if it was the worst shitpost in the world.  If it made it that long without getting deleted, it's probably best just to leave it alone--not to mention that old posts lose their relevance as time goes on.

As far as the conspiracy theory goes, it's certainly possible that someone could be reporting a lot of your posts out of spite.  I would think that a moderator would catch this, especially if the majority of reports are bad--and if that's the case, the result shouldn't end with posts getting nuked.

I'm more surprised someone would waste their time to read 3K+ of your posts to find and report posts which violate forum rules.
Have you seen how much time and effort members like cryptohunter (and all of his alts) put into ranting & raving?  If so, it shouldn't surprise you that a member or members would take the time to sift through someone's posts looking for ones to report.  Now I'm not saying that CH is involved in this, but you get my point.  There are a lot of anal retentive, OCD-type members on this forum who spend a lot of time researching things and whatnot.
6349  Other / Meta / Re: Indamuck Wrongfully Banned user, here since 2013 on: September 17, 2019, 02:46:51 PM
I know I should of avoided this headache in the first place but didn't think it would really matter, it was only small amounts of money anyways.
I don't know what the truth is here, but obviously a mod agrees with the blockchain-linkage evidence and I think you're going to have a hard time appealing their decision.

I never understood why people would share a wallet, even with family members--especially with a relative like a sibling.  Where I'm from, even spouses generally keep separate bank accounts and I've never even heard of brothers sharing a banking account or otherwise mingling their finances in any way.  It just seems very unlikely, especially with crypto where it's so easy to create your own wallet.  That's one of the reasons I tend to disbelieve people when they say they're sharing a wallet with someone else.

What was your purpose in doing that, OP?
6350  Other / Meta / Re: Special badge for signature campaign managers? on: September 17, 2019, 02:07:56 PM
Theymos was thinking to create a different type of account when you create account for a bounty hunters and regular members.
Really?  I don't recall reading anything about that, but it's possible I missed it.

In any case OP, Theymos doesn't seem to be too keen on creating badges for anything, because there have been a lot of suggestions and he hasn't acted on any of them.  I don't think your idea is a bad one at all, though I don't think a badge for campaign managers is necessary.  Right now there aren't a whole lot of them left as far as I can tell, simply because there aren't that many campaigns running anymore.  Old managers like Edwardard and noatek(sp?) seem to have just dropped off the map (although the latter may still be around).

I'd rather see badges for members who've ranked up under the merit system--that was the last suggestion I saw, and it's a real achievement.
6351  Economy / Economics / Re: How Will The Upcoming Recession Affect Bitcoin? on: September 16, 2019, 10:31:40 PM
Bitcoin has never been through a recession
Eh...bitcoin was introduced to the world right at the beginning of a huge recession and existed and thrived all the way through it.  By the time the economy had recovered in 2013 or so, bitcoin was hitting a huge high.  So that statement isn't exactly true.  What's true is that it hasn't been through the next recession, which I guess is what this thread is about.

Now, this "upcoming" recession thing: I have no doubt that the stock market and economy can't continue to boom forever.  We've been in one of the longest bull markets in history, but as they say the laws of gravity apply to economics too.  What I'm not sure of--and what no one can be sure of--is when the economy is going to start heading south.  Right now things still seem to be pretty good, though I confess I don't stay abreast of financial news anymore.

My best guess as far as bitcoin is concerned is that it might crash right along with the stock market.  When stocks start to slide, investors tend to move their money to more stable assets like bonds, metals, real estate, and the like.  I have a feeling that money isn't going to move into crypto--it's just not safe enough (and that's a serious understatement).  As it stands, there are probably a lot of people investing in bitcoin who can't really afford to do so.  What do you think is going to happen if unemployment numbers start to increase?  Yep, they'll sell their bitcoin for whatever they can get.

But hey, I could be totally wrong.  As I said, bitcoin did boom right through the housing/banking crisis of 2008-20XX.  In any case, I'm hoping the next recession doesn't come soon and that bitcoin will at least retain most of its value.
6352  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Biometric BTC wallet? on: September 16, 2019, 10:13:08 PM
It would be fairly easy to force you to restore your wallet.
All jokes aside, this was the whole point.
I get that, but personally I'd feel pretty secure since nobody I know knows I'd have any crypto on a hardware wallet (or phone, which I don't).  The chances of me getting forced at gunpoint to access my crypto is very remote.  Yeah, anything could happen but chances are I wouldn't run into a situation like that.  It would be much more likely I'd lose my wallet, in which case a fingerprint-dependent login would be extremely useful.

I wasn't even aware that biometric flash drives are being made.  I happened to come across some for sale on Amazon when I was looking for a flash drive that could be encrypted.  I think it'd be an awesome idea for Ledger or one of the other manufacturers to make a wallet with this technology.  Sure, things can go wrong....but they can always go wrong anyway.

Maybe some guys think that its better to continue with modern worlds invention but sometime its better to follow old fashioned way to keep us safer from unexpected attacks.
I get your point and I respect it fully.  But I'd still like the fingerprint tech to be applied to hardware wallets for those who'd want them.  I'd sure be interested in something like that.
6353  Other / Meta / Re: Why my acccount banned, RACIST FORUM on: September 16, 2019, 07:38:50 PM
Cryptopreneurbrainboss (hope I got that right) is Nigerian if I'm not mistaken, and nobody seems to have a problem with him.  In fact I'm sure there are plenty of Nigerians on this forum who've not gotten banned--and mods here don't ban anyone based on race, nationality, or any of that stuff.  It's a very diverse forum going on here.

We barely see permabanned users using the race card
That's because it's silly to do so, and it's not an excuse anyone here is really going to believe if they've been a member here long enough to realize such a claim is BS.  Most of the time you can't even tell where someone is from, much less their actual race.

I bet Nigerian Cocopalm Farms is just larping as a nigerian..
Wouldn't doubt it, nor would I doubt there's some trolling going on here.
6354  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum goes to the top! on: September 16, 2019, 06:40:04 PM
In some exchanges, ethereum's price is $178
I know you wrote this a few months ago, but I thought I'd quote it since ETH is currently just under $200 and hasn't gone up like a lot of folks thought it would have by now--and yeah, it hasn't been all that long since this thread was started, but I think bitcoin has done a lot better than ETH and most other altcoins.

I've never been a hater of ETH, but I'd be way more into it if it goes proof-of-stake, which rumors say it's going to do.  That's a feature which has made me a big fan of NEO, but I don't think NEO has as much of a future as ETH does, nor is it as popular.

ethereum has become a mandatory coin owned by anyone who is in crypto
I tend to agree, though I'm into crypto and only own an amount of ETH that most people would consider dust.  I probably should buy some more, but I just can't get myself enthusiastic enough about it to make the purchase.
6355  Other / Meta / Re: The end of an era for me: Leaving Signature Campaign on: September 16, 2019, 03:36:31 PM
Pharmacist is one of the biggest shit posters, no he isn't a scammer or thief but he is constantly churning out his max amount of posts for chipmixer without really saying much.
Just FYI, I haven't made the max number of posts for Chipmixer in many weeks (50).  Frankly, I'm having a hard time finding good threads to post in, ones where I actually have something to say.  And please, you can't say my posts are anywhere near as bad as the vast majority here which consist of short, nonsensical idiocy in broken English.  True, I don't write extremely long screeds raging against perceived injustices against....whatever....like you do, but I'm hardly a shitposter.

No please leave it here. All we ever seem to have in meta is people constantly feeding trolls at the moment it'll be nice to have something different for once (at least those are the ones that seem to get continuously bumped)...
Fair enough.  I didn't report it as being in the wrong section or anything; it was just a suggestion to OP because it has more to do with him personally than it does with the forum as a whole.

Edit:

And wow, how did this turn into a rant against The Pharmacist, that really wasn't my intention.
That's alright, the argument is over and I won't respond to any more salvos from the peanut gallery in your thread.
6356  Economy / Economics / Re: A Cryptocurrency-related Business (Pitch) on: September 16, 2019, 03:26:44 PM
Also, I'm pretty sure smoking/vaping bans will make that part of the plan problematic.
I don't know what NYC laws are as far as vaping goes, but I'm pretty sure smoking wouldn't be allowed--you can't even smoke in bars anymore, so my guess is that the law goes for all businesses.  Hell, I remember as far back as 2002 you could still smoke in restaurants but everything changed right around that time (I don't live in NY but close).  And frankly I wouldn't want to be around smokers in an internet cafe-type place, even if it was as big as a warehouse.  Vaping yes, smoking no.

The kids will love it.
That's another reason why smoking and other vices shouldn't be permitted.

OP, I actually love this idea but I question whether the business model is viable.  I've seen a few gaming places in my town go out of business for lack of interest.  Everyone loves the idea of arcades because they bring a feeling of nostalgia, but in reality nobody wants to spend time or money in them anymore.  The same *probably* holds true for computer game-based internet cafes, especially in a place like NYC where there are already so many things to do--plus people already have the option to play awesome games in their own homes.  I don't think the crypto aspect would be enticing to anyone.

On the other hand, I'd make at least one trip to a place like that just to use a bitcoin ATM.  I don't even know where the nearest one is to me, but I'm pretty sure it's more than 100 miles away.
6357  Economy / Economics / Re: I am Building a Crypto District in New York City on: September 16, 2019, 03:12:20 PM
Japanese proverb: "The water of even a great ocean comes one drop at a time"
I'm not sure that's exactly true, because all the oceans were already in place when whatever Japanese person coined the proverb.

In any case, I'd be interested to know at least a few details about what you're planning, though I think you're just blowing smoke here.  But the reason for my interest is that I don't live all that far away from NYC.  I've always wondered how many N'Yawkers are into bitcoin--I'm sure it's a lot just based on the population alone, but I'm pretty sure there aren't dedicated crypto communites or organizations devoted to such.  Are there?

I've not visited NYC in a long time, but I'd love to go back one of these days.  If you ever do get anything started, keep this thread updated, eh?
6358  Other / Meta / Re: The end of an era for me: Leaving Signature Campaign on: September 16, 2019, 02:48:24 PM
I don't know what campaign you were in since I have signatures blocked and never saw yours, and I just looked at your profile and you obviously removed your campaign signature--but what I was wondering was whether they had a minimum number of weekly posts or not.  I've been in campaigns with minimum posts, and I always hated that unless it was a very low number.

Now, I doubt I will be any less active, but now I can purely post for fun without actually having to post.
If that's the case, why are you going campaign-free?  The only reason I've been in signature campaigns was because I figured it'd be better to get paid for doing something I'd be doing anyway.  It would be like leaving money on the table if I didn't take part in one.

But hey, props to you if it makes you feel more free.  By the way, this might be better in Reputation or some other section.
6359  Other / Meta / Re: Unrealized mistake and unban reaquest @theymos and mods on: September 16, 2019, 02:40:14 PM
Yeah, that does suck.  So if I'm understanding this correctly, the thread that you weren't supposed to post in (because it violated forum rules) was trashed.  When did it get trashed?  Is this an old offense that just got reported, or did it just happen?

Anyway, it's a good thing that your ban is only for 10 days.  Could be worse, but I know it might affect your status in Yahoo62278's campaign.  But if he accepted you into it, my guess is that at the very worst someone will drop out in the first week and you can probably get your spot back if he doesn't hold it for you.  You're a good member of the forum, so I'm pretty sure there won't be any hard feelings against you.
6360  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Bakkt Will be launched by 23 September btc vs altcoins on: September 15, 2019, 08:55:47 PM
My understanding of Bakkt is that it's going to present big-money players an opportunity to get exposure to crypto without actually having to buy (or own) actual cryptocurrency.  I think it's akin to the paper precious metals market, where traders really don't want to own bars of gold, but rather to speculate on the price.  Basically it's a derivatives market.  I think Bakkt traders have the option to take possession of their crypto, but I'm sure most of them will settle with cash--just like traders in the commodities market do.

I have no idea how this is all going to affect the price of bitcoin or of altcoins, but I'm fairly sure it'll have some sort of effect.  And no, I don't think this is going to be something for the retail market, and it's not going to be used by individual traders unless they have some deep pockets.

I think it's probably going to appeal to large Wall Street investment firms looking to invest in bitcoin without having to move the market because of huge buy/sell orders.  I think that's the main reason Wall Street hasn't gotten into it yet.  You can't buy $1 billion (or more) worth of bitcoin on the open market and not move the price upward.  That could have all sorts of bad outcomes.  Nor could you sell that amount easily.  But with Bakkt, these guys can trade all the bitcoin derivatives they want and it won't move the market at all (I think).
