Does the current solution minimize spam? Yes, so therefore it's working. Is the current solution ideal? I don't think so. Though, some compromises have to be made. I'm sure theymos is all ears if you can think of a better solution.

No longer offering this as a free service. Those that have contacted me prior to this announcement, will still have work done for free. Price now depends on the amount of resources that it requires for the job. Accepting Bitcoin core wallets mostly. Although will provide support for other wallets. Bitcoin core/qt preferred.
Anyone who is looking to not pay anything, then please look at btcrecover, made by btchris. Although, this does require installing and running a third party application, I will not be held responsible for any malicious code which is uploaded. Please do your own research in that purpose. Some technical experience needed, using the terminal mainly

Another thing which would require moderation, plus they are generally unneeded, messy and annoying.

I would like this and have thought about it myself. It could be useful for certain circumstances.

I had a temporary solution myself which to be honest was a bit of a DIY job. This is much better and will be using from now on. Hopefully Badbears suggestion will become a reality in the new forum software. Until then this will suffice. Cheers grue!

I have a wallet.dat file with 5 btc stored. I think I've made a typo with my passphrase, can you help me. I have a pretty good idea what the password should be, it's either 30 or 21 characters long, I have 2 options of what it should be, without the typo offcourse, hope you can help! Can provide proof that they are my bitcoin, since I transferred them from my original wallet, of which I still have the password and private keys.
Hey, If you've made a typo it might be quite straight forward, as long as it's no longer than 5 typos it should be doable quite quickly. You can send me a personal message if you like. Are you using Bitcoin core/qt? I normally only deal with this wallet now because it's the safest way for the person sending the details. Other wallets are less safe and requires a lot of trust and I don't normally like accepting them, unless the person is reputable enough. If you do contact this month, there may be a delay in response and I won't probably start any work until early next month. I have a wallet which needs recovering has 2 bitcoin it it its hosted at blockchain info pleaase help
Send me a message with information about the job. If you aren't using Bitcoin core/qt I will not help because of your rank and no previous reputation. If you are using Bitcoin core/qt then it's straight forward and no risk at all to either party.

Sorry guys, I've run into some personal problems of my own recently. I'll catch up with the thread and get everything sorted. Sorry about this, seems the account was returned. Sorry about not being here to deal with any of the issues which have occurred.
I got into a flutter as soon as I saw a message from someone pointing me to this thread, so I contacted devethedev straight away, without reading all the thread requesting for the account to be sent back to it's original owner. However, after about 2 minutes of further reading of this thread I read that it had already been returned. I've contacted devethedev & GBattaglia to arrange for me to send a tip to them for the inconvenience caused. I'll look to get the tips sent this weekend hopefully.
Again, I'm awfully sorry for any stress caused by myself not being here. Glad of the news about the cat! I've left the appropriate feedback too. I do appreciate everyone not jumping to the conclusion that I'm up to anything fishy, always nice to be reassured that there's people who don't assume the worse straight off the bat, so thanks for that everyone.
Tipped Devthedev, just waiting for a response from GBattaglia. Sent Gbattaglia 0.05BTC to compensate for the late response from myself.

There's another thread with this sort of thing, although it was made after your thread, it might be better just to use that thread as it has much more replies, and saves from people posting in both of them and having them run along side each other later down the line: Stake your Bitcoin address here - Started by Tomatocage

Interesting reading on the rules etc.
Q: I saw a guy selling Bitcointalk accounts. Why is that allowed? A: Since we can't effectively prevent these sales (proxies, TOR, sales in other forums), we don't because otherwise we would be giving the users a false sense of security.
why would this be giving the user a false sense of security. If a person sells an account then that other person might of already been banned or suspended in the past or done something illegal or traded or scammed and just got a new account with no limits on it. This only promotes for making it simpler for people to get away with doing or brake TOS and rules and repeating getting banned on an account coming back and scamming again.
Rules should have it 1 account 1 account only if you get banned you can not make another account up. Proxy access should be also suspended and not used as it will keep the risk and also prevention of scammers coming back joining and be a lot more cleaner of scammers. Giving the ability to buy an account just evades ban rules and defies any of your rules or regulations in place for that person to oversee them rules by making a new account bypassing or buying an account and bypassing rules in place. Sort of contradicting your own rules in place than being a false sense of security.
It's been discussed before, how difficult it is to catch multiple users if they are doing it right, at the moment I say allow it and let them get lazy and mess up. Otherwise, if it was a solid rule they could step up their game and be harder to find out.

Meta would become a embassy for the banned I'm not against it, it would be allright. But, not like anyone will abided by it. They'll just make a new account anyway.

In beginning I was also doing for helping forum. but later when Theymos posted stats about report I got encourage and was thinking to become mod. So I was doing extra for reporting. But now I am normal again don't care if I will become mod or not. If I see wrong thread I report.
Reporting isn't the only factor, anyway theymos will only bring in new faces if there is demand. At the moment the moderators seem to be doing ok. Although, I'm not sure why someone would be so eager to be a forum moderator, it's a tough job. I report frequently and have to take small breaks because of how much time it takes up. Imagine doing that every single day, dealing with hundreds of posts. It's stressful. You've got to be made out of something special to become one. Maybe you have to eat some bear meat, I heard the paws and thigh of the bear are considered the best parts. Sure everyone fantasizes about becoming mod, but it's not as easy as it seems. I'm not saying they don't enjoy it because I'm sure they do. The attitude your carrying isn't a great impression though, if you want moderator you got to keep at it, even if you think theymos as got aa grudge against you. Someone who keeps sticking at something even though they don't believe it's getting them anywhere, might just be that special type of person. But what do I know.
|
|
|
You can have all the reports in the world, and also be the most active person, but that's just a indicator in my opinion. theymos seems to have a eye for good staff members and they all seen t be doing a great job. So we can't tell you a definite answer, it depends on a lot of things which are obtainable, like reporting posts etc. But, it depends on theymos perception of you too.

Vet visit went well. Oreo [cat's name] is now on a special diet to help prevent and reduce the urinary issues. A family member paid for the vet visit, but because of this I covered some other bills with the loan money.
Seeing BTC's price increase of over 30% is really disheartening. I'll see about getting the money to you this first paycheck on Thursday [so BTC by Monday]. The price of BTC has me a little worried.
Great to hear the vet visit went well. I didn't notice the price go up, I rarely check it. It's a little unfortunate timing for you.

I suggest anyone ever considering doing a transaction or trade with anyone. Will not only look at the trust score, but the context. If someone has positive feedback for a loan, then it's your decision to consider that as either valid or not. I don't believe that trust needs to be given to anyone giving the loan, but it's up to the person who is lending.
This goes for anything though, always look at the context of the feedback. I would be wary of people loaning Bitcoin interest free or basically interest free, as that does look like they are trying to build their trust up, but that's my opinion and will vary from person to person.

Everyone is quick to make the assumption that Putin was behind this. There isn't any evidence that he is behind it. For instance this could be someone who wants to rally against Putin in the future, but want's everyone to believe Putin was the one behind this thus giving this unknown person an advantage. Although, that would be another assumption. I don't think anyone will trust the news which is going to be fed to us by the Russian news. So, we're probably not going to find out the truth anyway.
This may of not been done by any one official either. There's to many possibilities to make a quick assumption.

The only reason why a child board should be created if there's high demand for it. I don't see this being the case.

I don't think the forum is dying, but rather your love for Bitcoin dying. The forum had less users, less active in 2011 and that was some of the best discussion we've had. Of course this is to be expected as there is only a limited amount to speak about. To be quite honest at this moment in time I would rather a close knitted set of individuals. I don't think many people are panicking about the price, I haven't checked the price directly for many many months. I don't know what you mean by the 'mood'. It depends what you read, something recently which I consider pretty positive is Elwar getting paid in Bitcoin, he doesn't seem to care about the relation with USD or any other fiat currency. Now if that isn't positive then I don't know what is. If only that was available outside of the US I'd be set. The currency exchange section is going to drop off more when there are easier ways to purchase and sell Bitcoin. Spammers get dealt with if you report them, if there aren't any mods on it only takes a few hours at most for one to pop on. There's going to be scammers where ever you go, there's no stopping that.
