6381  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Segwit to P2SH Nested Segwit on: June 09, 2021, 07:13:19 AM
Code:
session umbrella wood donor ahead climb gym pause frown siren electric polar

That will work;
the error he'll get is just a warning about the BIP39 checksum below the seed: BIP39 (checksum: failed) but the next button will is still be available.

But I wouldn't suggest that since it's a non-standard way of creating an HD p2sh-segwit wallet.
It'll force Electrum to get an entropy from the Electrum seed phrase that will be used as BIP39 seed.
Downloading an offline copy of iancoleman's BIP39 tool is easy, it's open-source and the current code is clean.
I used mobile electrum wallet for it, that means it is different from how desktop electrum wallet will work, while desktop electrum is far the best to use.

When I used the above seed phrase as normal electrum wallet seed phrase

When I checked it as BIP39 seed phrase

I used mobile electrum version 4.1.2 (32 bit).
6382  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Why is Mycelium always so High ? on: June 09, 2021, 06:14:15 AM
So why does Mycelium shows the fees as so high when it can be confirmed in 15 minutes with a lower fees itself.
Some wallets fee estimation may not be accurate, I am not certain about electrum, but if what you said is true, it may not be totally accurate. Before I make any transaction, I always check mempool observers for the high and low fee I can pay before sending. Sometimes, I noticed there are time the fee are estimated by some wallet to be too low as normal fee, and there are times the fee are estimated higher than it should require.

You can try and make use of any of these fee estimator in comparison with your wallet fee estimation:

OP doesn't need to generate a new BIP39 seed using another tool. He already has an Electrum seed that can be used to generate Nested Segwit,

The step is the same way as the post above. in the beginning, choose I already have seed, write electrum seed, and tick BIP 39 on option, the nest step is derivation path then choose p2sh-p2wpkh.
This will not work. Supposing you use the seed phrase generated on electrum, the Next button will be available for you to click so the wallet can generate the keys and addresses, but once you checked it as BIP39 seed, the Next button will go unavailable at the time, and you will not be able to use it to generate BIP39 keys and addresses. This does not work and will not work because BIP39 seed phrase is different from electrum wallet seed phrase.

6385  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Segwit to P2SH Nested Segwit on: June 08, 2021, 02:27:35 AM
How can I upgrade to Nested Segwit, addresses starting with 3 on Electrum.
I will not advice you to use many of the BIP39 wallets because they are close source, a wallet that its source code is not available for the public to check of vulnerabilities can not be trusted. If you want a nested segwit wallet (wallets that its addresses starts from 3), you can visit https://iancoleman.io/bip39/ and generate it offline.

Access https://iancoleman.io/bip39/, turn off all internet connections on your device, open another tab, access the site again through the new tab with no internet connection, the site will open. Then, you can generate your seed phrase. Alternatively, which is the best is to run its html file offline, you can download the source from https://github.com/iancoleman/bip39/releases/latest/.

Import the seed phrase on electrum by clicking on:
  • Next
  • Standard wallet
  • I already have a seed
Input the seed phrase generated safely from Iancoleman, check "BIP39 seed to enable Next
  • click Next
  • p2sh-p2wpkh
  • Next
  • input password

With this, you will be able to generate nested segwit keys and addresses also on electrum wallet, but know that the seed phrase is not stored on electrum, only the keys and addresses are stored. Make sure you have your backup offline. Also, the fee paid using native segwit (addresses that start from bc1) in transactions is still very low if compared to nested segwit, so I will still advice you to use native segwit which electrum will generate by default. Also, you can decide to use open source wallet like mycelium, but I have not used it before, make sure the keys and addresses of the nested segwit are the same as that on electrum after importimg it.
6386  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Issue with virus on: June 07, 2021, 03:21:45 PM
Like I said I have already sorted the issue by formatting my PC but I am just asking if someone is familiar what this might be or explain a bit more?
Disregard my post above. So far you are making use of an exchange, and the deposited address is different and not yours, that should not be QR code or clipboard malware as it is deposit address that was affected (which means your exchange account is totally affect). It is strange to me but I think the hacker was able to logout your exchange account, login their own account which may be very similar to yours, and spying on your activities.

Didn't you enable 2fa and sim authentication?
6387  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Issue with virus on: June 07, 2021, 02:53:57 PM
There has been clipboard malware since long time ago. For example, if you want to send Bitcoin to someone, the Bitcoin address can be changed to a hacker's address immediately your paste in the address. That is why you need to check and recheck the address you are sending bitcoin to before pressing on the send button. The best in this regard is to uninstall you device OS and install back the OS to make it free of any kind of malware, some people will format the device like you did.

(virus is just one of the makeware, there are others like Trojan, Rootkit and Botnents. Some malware are combination of two or more malware to help achieve compromisimg the intended devices).
6388  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Restoring Electrum wallet with hardware device on: June 07, 2021, 01:55:26 PM
You must be doing something wrong. When you type in the name of an existing wallet then Electrum will automatically open that wallet. Are you sure that you are selecting the correct derivation path during the recovery? You can see the derivation path of the wallet you are trying to recover at the bottom of "Wallet -> Information".
I am not using a hardware wallet, but I think what he/she is implying is that he/she was unable to recover back the hardware wallet keys and addresses using electrum as wallet extension until he included the wallet name. I think what he is asking is that 'is it possible to access the hardware wallet keys and addresses directly on electrum without inputing the wallet name'.
6389  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Nigerian government banned Twitter on: June 07, 2021, 10:05:24 AM
Banning the president of Nigeria that is the will and the voice of the Nigerian people.
Nigerian president Twitter account was only suspended for 12 hours after tweeting about Biafra war that has occured in the past (correct me if wrong). That definitely means Yorubas and Biafra people that are agitating for their own nations can lead to war, if not what the president meant is that, but that is exactly what the tweet is portraying. Recently, Yorubas are seeking for their own nation, saying enough of suffering and Fulani herdsmen killings.
6390  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and Tax on: June 07, 2021, 09:04:00 AM
It took only ten years for Bitcoin to have a significant impact on the world.
Bitcoin has been having significant impact since it was created in 2009, but only those that hold it knew this at the time.

If Bitcoin is regarded as a kind of currency, it will affect the original legal currency of the country.
How? Even most people still convert Bitcoin to fiat for daily spendings, and when using p2p, people also interchange fiat and Bitcoin, I do not see how this is a problem. People that are core Bitcoin users still do not have options than to make use of fiat for so many reasons. So, how will fiat be affected when people are still making use of it for daily purposes?

However, if Bitcoin is used as an investment commodity, it is bound to face a problem— -tax.
Yes, but most people are using exchanges and custodial means to buy cryptocurrencies, this should not be a problem. Also there are many fiat based businesses evading taxes.

I would like to ask how other countries currently tax Bitcoin.
Most countries are not yet taxing Bitcoin and crypto investment in general for now, but there would be amendment in the future. I think taxing cryptocurrencies investment in US has been effective. The taxing is just like normal taxation, but the taxing can differ from one country to another.

In China, we transfer cryptocurrency to others through Binance, and at the same time receive transfers from other people's bank cards.
Do not forget Binance can track your capital gain, they can comply with the law of a country, and people to report their capital gain and pay their tax.

If Bitcoin's hash address is one-to-one correspondence with the person, then Bitcoin loses its anonymity.
You are right, anything custodial makes Bitcoin not to be pseudonymous. Bitcoin is not anonymous but pseudonymous.

Taxation and anonymity seem to be opposed.
Yes. But people do not care about the pseudonymity, that is why trading volume on decentralized exchanges are not much compared to centralized exchanges. Even most people that are using decentralized exchanges first bought cryptocurrencies from centralized services.
6391  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Nigerian government banned Twitter on: June 07, 2021, 08:00:18 AM
If twitter can suspend their users for not complying with their ToS, Nigeria has the right to ban twitter for not complying with the Nigerian law.
Which Nigerian law did Twitter go against?

Also, Nigerians are complaining about this Twitter ban and deemed it inappropriate and how bad the Nigerian economy is.
6392  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: When to Mine the last Bitcoin. on: June 07, 2021, 07:03:12 AM
Now my confusion.
What mathematical analysis proves that BTC created by 2009 with a fixed supply of 21million. From 2009 to 2021 is about 12years, then about 18million has already been mined.
Now, the remaining which is about 2million+ will take about 120years to be mined?
I need clarification please.
If you need a well detailed explanation about this, you can read a topic created by fillippone:

Equivalent Network Time

As the mining reward is reducing after halving, it will take more time to mine certain amount of Bitcoin.

6393  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Nigerian government banned Twitter on: June 07, 2021, 06:52:49 AM
It is their country and they have the right to ban any platform they want. Don't like it? Don't go to Nigeria.
The Twitter ban is against the will of citizens, if to ban a social media, there should be a good reason, but because of the war-like content the Nigerian president tweeted, Twitter had to suspend his account for 12 hours and also removed the content. The present Nigerian federal government are acting like authoritarian and all they does are displeasing citizens. Should a learned person ban Twitter because of what happened? It is a shame to Nigerians that we have this present government. When the formal government were there, Nigeria has its peak GDP, and the GDP has reduced during this present government, unemployment rate increased, the Twitter that some Nigerians are using to make money is also suspended, what kind of government is that? They conducted no research before the ban. If you even find out, the present government do not even know that Twitter is useful in money making and helping Nigerians in that aspect, because of they know, Twitter will not be suspended.
6394  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Life Cycle of Bitcoin on: June 06, 2021, 04:09:25 PM
4. Decline Stage: Everything that has a beginning has an end. At the stage sales deteriorate drastically. And the product will phase off the market unless the product is redesigned. .
The days that will not come, or the days that will take centuries to come. Bitcoin is deflationary, people will like to hold and you will see all-time-high. Just see it as the digital gold.
6395  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Is there a way to transfer BTC from an offline wallet (Armory) to a new... on: June 06, 2021, 03:28:08 PM
So, Ive inserted ALL the keys in Electrum but the "Next-button" isn't highlighted. Only back.

There are two icons, QR-code and read file.
It should work, hope it is the real private key that you imported? You can use this guild for the private key importation

Importing your private keys into Electrum

Also, if you are importing multiple private keys, use below format:

6396  Economy / Speculation / Re: My million dollar bitcoin price probabilities prediction on: June 06, 2021, 07:38:17 AM
I believe one day Bitcoin price will rise over $1 million because it is a deflationary currency, but this may take time, even with what I think, I do not think Bitcoin price will get to $1 million any time soon even as 2029, I believe you are also relating it to Bitcoin halving, that Bitcoin will halve 2 times before 2029 and people will fomo and buy Bitcoin so they can gain. There is nothing impossible, but as the price of bitcoin will be increasing, the volatility will be drastically reducing.

I made a topic in the price in which is all about Bitcoin price valuation and halving, from it, you will realize how the price increase of Bitcoin after halving has been, it is redeucing drastically, but yet an opportunity for people to invest.

First halving, 2012
Initial price: $11
Highest prices:  around 1100
That means it increased 100x

Second halving, 2016
Initial price: around and below $700
Highest price: all time all of $19,665.36
That means it increased over 33x

I remembered Bitcoin price has been increasing drastically last year, 2020 before halving, but the price before having was around $8800, Bitcoin increased in price to $63126 in 2021.

Third halving, 2020
Initial price: $8800
Highest prices so far: around $63126
That means it increased 7.17x

This may not be true, but if the price volatility after halving is decreasing, $1 million price may not be possible by 2029, but the price of bitcoin will still increase though.
6397  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BitCoin: is it really finite? on: June 06, 2021, 04:09:04 AM
<...>
Finite is a supply people can achieve over a certain time period. Like gold as an example, no gold miner or any other person can predict when all gold will be mined, even if estimated, it will take millions or billions of yeras, this makes gold infinite, unlike Bitcoin that almost 19 million are mined already. The total Bitcoin supply is 21 million in which over 98% would have been mined by 2050, this makes the supply finite. What some people argue is that the Bitcoin community can agree one day to increase the supply, but this can not happen because people would even prefer if the supply is reduced which will help in Bitcoin price valuation.
6398  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Is there a way of avoiding unnecessary outputs due to fee rate adjustments? on: June 05, 2021, 10:58:52 PM
I checked my last transaction on electrum, I always make a transaction of 1 input most of the time, I checked the last one and no change address because I pressed on max and yet I edited the fee. Immediately my balance appeared zero, I tracked it on blockchain and no change address involved. I have never consolidated inputs before, neither have I sent many inputs before, but I still think electrum should not have UTXO sent to change address so far you send the maximum amount of bitcoin on your electrum wallet. This is strange to me.
6399  Economy / Speculation / Re: The US dollar could run out soon - Gold can lose value - Elon musk on: June 05, 2021, 04:27:04 PM
The US dollar could run out soon - Gold can lose value - As because Elon Musk is trying to get investors out of the crypto market.
How will Elon Musk try to get investors out of crypto result to US dollar to run out? And how will it cause the price of gold to crash? I think this is a very wrong statement.

If investors lose interest due to Elon Musk and Bitcoin long-run bearish position, the US dollar might completely lose its value and exchanges can create decentralized fiat currencies having greater value than USD.
Also this explanation is very wrong.

Bitcoin might be replaced by another currency too like BNB as due to hacking attempts, people would like to move on centralized exchange tokens because it cannot be hacked.
Exchanges can be hacked irrespective of the coin listed on the exchange.
6400  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Legend with wallet skills required! on: June 05, 2021, 04:16:14 PM
There is an obvious need to be trusted and open to share knowledge, I don't just want to dump keys and move on, I would like to understand the deeper history, assuming there is or perhaps was one.
If you have the private key to your Bitcoin, you can import it on electrum wallet.

If you have the wallet file, you can use it if not yet corrupted. Experienced member that run Bitcoin core (I assume you were using Bitcoin qt at the time) will be able to illustrate you how you can recover your private keys from the wallet.dat
