Hmm.. I remember what happened with the ICL. The players received very harsh punishments from their respective boards. For example, Shane Bond was at his peak form, and this controversy destroyed his career. He did play a few matches in the IPL, but by then his career was largely over. And even after all this, the players never received their full salaries. I might add his "Injuries part" as well. He was beautiful bowler but had a habit of getting injured from time to time. This was the major reason he never became regular in NZ squad, ICL did play its part in destroying his career, which i agree. Ian Bishop Shane Bone and Paul Allot these three great bowlers we lost very quickly just because of Injuries really big lost for cricket as Paul done great record work in 1999 world cup. |

It is ridiculous to blame BJP for the current situation between the BCCI and the PCB. The public opinion in India was in favor of cricket relations between these two nations until a decade ago. But then, a string of terror attacks resulted in the Indian public taking a hard line against their Western neighbor. Even if the current opposition comes to power in India, I don't think that the relations would improve. I am also feeling these relationship are not going to improve because its not in favour of politicians and here in sub continent politics is biggest business for a small group which is very powerful so never think about cricket here between these two countries. |

Without the Pakistani players still, IPL is interesting and viewership has not declined. I do not think it will happen in the near future as there is no political will from both sides. There is only a limited number of slots available for the overseas players as the maximum threshold per playing XI is four. So we have 8 teams right now, and 32 overseas players can regularly feature in the tournament. Considering the current form of Pakistani players, I would say that not many of them would be selected by the IPL teams, even if the option is available. The first preference is for West Indian and Australian players, followed by those from England and South Africa. Still form or no form because of the rift between these two countries I would still be open and get entertained if Pakistan and India resume their bilateral series. That would benefit both the nation as sponsors and advertisers will be on BCCI'S doorstep. A good way to generate revenue for both nations. But it is next to impossible now to even think about it. The latest news from BCCI is that the Indian tour of Sri Lanka is called off (originally scheduled for June-July). This series was not very important for the BCCI, but the SLCB will be furious about it. They are already facing financial issues and the cancellation of the tour is going to hit them hard. They were hoping that the BCCI would just postpone the tour, and not cancel it altogether.
What is happening in not intended as the current situation makes it? Money grossing IPL is still in a dilemma no one knows it will happen! But, if the boards take it as an issue then it is their issue. I do not blame the board but the condition in the subcontinent is pretty bad and every day it is becoming worst for everyone living there. I am sure they will do a favor for the Srilankan cricket team later on when things are quite normal. While ICC is deciding whether to postpone T20 Worldcup next year, BCCI has decided to host IPL this year. Looks like Ganguly doesn't care about ICC's decision anymore  If IPL face cancellation then BBCI is going to lose approx $500 Millions in one go... so clearly they are in deep mess in current situation and desperately want to organize event, let's see if other boards release their players for IPL. I think the other boards will probably agree. Right now most of the boards has cut short the pay of the players, IPL is a cash cow for the players so eventually they will presurize the Boards for IPL. If IPL is hosted even Bravo will take part in it on behalf of CSK Yesterday i was reading live feed of ICC meeting (posted in the last page). for some reason they put up Ian chappell interview, he was basically saying that every board need to stand up against the BCCI. No matter if World cup gets cancel or not, don't send players for IPL and play domestic cricket only.. And do you think these boards can control players who get paid more than what they might earn from ICC tournaments? Pakistani players are crying every day and West Indians have revolted against there boards. Players are performing just to get selected in IPL. Resting up worked well for him the last time, it could work again. Who knows if we get to see him winning one or two more titles when he returns and the retirement talks will be dismissed again. Why not organize IPL in countries declared virus free? NZ and many smaller countries are now virus-free so the players and the required staff can be tested first and then they can organize an event away from India. It's not necessary to organize it in India when the condition is now worse and doesn't seem to improve for months. They are already incurring losses so they need to think of more alternatives. This is only if it's possible and plausible.
Its not easy as we are feeling because New Zealand is Corona free but Borders are still close and they need some good time for visitors to allow as danger is still on and IPL is very big event they need some good time and things for this all to organise main thing is BCCI will go or have any intention to play in New Zealand. |
