641  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: What else can you do with a Dozen decommissioned Radeon cards? on: March 16, 2012, 05:20:44 PM
Hold onto your gold for one minute...This is all based on the assumption that when the halving occurs the USD per Bitcoin will reduce by the same amount. Since you are just speculating, it's just as probable that the USD value of Bitcoins will adjust after the halving and remain just as profitable as before.

Before the halving--$5.32 per 1 BTC
After the halving--$5.32 per .5 BTC

Of course, logical speculators will create some chaos in the BTC market when this occurs initially, following their invalid logic they will jump off the cliff like lemmings. This will be another great profit moment for the BTC vultures who are patient and calculating, waiting to feast on the remains of the lemmings.
642  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin up. on: March 16, 2012, 04:39:01 PM
America brought down the towers to hide that they stole all of the gold from the basement. They had to pay back China for the gold they were shorted in another unpublicized theft. So now the gold market, under an artificial inflation, will remain until they sell all of their stolen gold without crashing this high price.

a phone tablet combo.

I have been asking for this for YEARS.  Sounds like the perfect device to me.  But, everyone tells me a tablet sized device would be to big and awkward to hold to your face... I dont think I'd mind.  Im talking about ~7" BTW
You want something 7" held up to your face? Will you digitally manipulate it or address it orally? Do you prefer a hard or soft case?
644  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Correct way to create world government on: March 16, 2012, 04:13:34 PM
A one world government is the agenda of the mega wealthy, not individual countries or their populace. When you are mega wealthy it is costing you money to keep track of international laws to ensure your businesses continue to earn without interference or incurring more costs. A one world government would have one set of laws for all, one currency for all, and therefore improve their bottom line. A fascist dictator as a ruler they control to do as they please is their ideal, while an American style republic is anathema to their goals. It is about more control not more freedom.
It is going to occur and we will probably see it materialize within the next 7 to 10 years. The European Union and African Union were created to facilitate this plan, being corporate structures for countries, testing laws and enforcement. Meanwhile, the USA, Russia and China are jockeying to become the top dog in this marathon to world government.

Random picker's

I wouldn't trust it unless there were some type of live webcast of the picker picking. Cheesy

646  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Advertise Bitcoin on every single banknote ( and make a new game ? ) on: March 16, 2012, 06:42:07 AM
For the Satoshi of it, I saw some bills that had Bitcoin.org next to Benjamin Franklin and penned toward the right edge was "Bitcoins to replace this." Who ever did that was a genius. God save the Republic and a curse on those who run the Federal Reserve system.

647  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Armory: Cold Storage for the Average User! on: March 16, 2012, 06:07:20 AM
A lot of you have been waiting for this feature, so please help test it!  Gimme feedback!------------|
-------------------VVVVVVVVVVV--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
I wish I'd gotten RAM-reduction going by now, but instead I was listening to you and implementing features that I were in high demand (and not major overhauls of the application).  Plus, the RAM-reduction is half-done, and hopefully be implemented in the next couple weeks!
Choosing not to do this upfront limits the amount of people that can trial the software. People by nature like to feel it, touch it, taste it prior to making commitments and this factor could have caused some missed donations. From reading user comments and your write ups I was filled with anticipation willing to give it a try when I discovered this fact. O.o My daily user only has 2GB so I couldn't play with Armory. SOAB :sigh:

This is intense, I'm getting antsy.
649  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Issue with 11.04 live CD Boot Parameters on: March 16, 2012, 01:26:59 AM
11.04 doesn't like the older cards apparently, poor ATI support possibly.
I have a system with an x1950, 11.04 will boot but the desktop will not display. If I remove the card and use the onboard graphics, nvidia, 11.04 desktop works fine.
You could try checking what version of fglrx is installed.
Code:
dpkg --get-selections | grep fglrx
then, after an apt-get update
Code:
apt-cache show fglrx
Alternatively you could burn to a flash stick from a running system (offending card removed), then install the drivers and sdk you want.
You may need to follow Kano's guide to get up to speed.

651  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: P2Pool Server List on: March 15, 2012, 04:12:54 AM
So it looks like only one of the listed servers is down.

I made a quick python script to check all of the servers and then sort them by average response time.

http://pastie.org/3597839

Obviously, my pool has a very low ping time since it is local.

Just thinking out loud. Public node advertising could be built into p2pool. Maybe if a flag is set, the client will join a special IRC channel.  Then a simple client could be written to look at all the nodes in that channel and connect to one.  Maybe the nodes could advertise fees, uptime, if they have merged mining, etc.  It could at least be a nice way to setup a backup pool.

EDIT: So I just realized my script does not distinguish between bitcoin and litecoin pools? I'll add that now. Done
Using your prog I get the same results, with ping in terminal I get 4 unanswered results, while ping in terminal shows thirdlight as up.
Code:
--- thirdlight.dynalias.com ping statistics ---
3 packets transmitted, 3 received, 0% packet loss,

I don't know why there is this discrepancy between the two tool results or which should be used to update the OP with. Are both results valid? Any Suggestions?

Updated OP. Thanks Shadow383.
653  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 5970 just sold on ebay this morning... on: March 14, 2012, 09:34:46 PM
I could see the winning bid from your link of it, but it just didn't appear in my ebay browser session under completed listings, like it was being hidden from me.

655  Other / Off-topic / Re: So you like my animated GIF avatars? on: March 14, 2012, 08:44:35 PM
I tried to make an animated gif by hand. %$&* that's hard. Took me over an hour to compose "Any questions?" Because of that I looked for a better way to slice and dice for animated gifs.

Here is one I found:
Code:
mplayer -ao null -loop 0 -ss 0:0:33 -endpos 2 some.avi
This line tests the video file.
Code:
mplayer -ao null -ss 0:0:33 -endpos 2 some.avi -vo jpeg:outdir=animated_gif
This line makes the image stills of your video and saves to jpeg.
656  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Kony 2012: Is this ethical, morally just but questionable, or just plain wrong? on: March 14, 2012, 07:45:37 PM
Please do share what their own destructive tendencies as you seem well informed on the subject.
Surely you don't imply that reproducing themselves is a destructive tendency do you?
If Kony is not yet dead then their is a viable non-invasion strategy, though unpleasant, that can destroy him for good. Since Kony and his men rape and capture women and children to become soldiers and wives, and Africa has a very large AIDS epidemic, infected people can be moved to the areas where the attacks take place. They will be ensnared by their own destructive tendencies.
I hope this provides clarity for you bitdragon. Smiley
657  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 5970 just sold on ebay this morning... on: March 14, 2012, 04:16:40 AM
I have ebay open right now and the middle link isn't listed, maybe some DNS hijinks filtering...hmmm.
658  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 5970 just sold on ebay this morning... on: March 14, 2012, 04:07:44 AM
$300 is a no brainer buy.  $350 is what I would consider fair value.  $400 you are pushing it. Insanely a month ago some were going for $425, $450, $500 and yes even $550.  No fraking clue what those noobs were thinking.  No way it is gamers.  $550.  Lets see a 7970 or a 2 generation old 5970?  Hmm.  Not a card call for a gamer.
That's not the only models that happened to during the same period of time. 5870's and 5850's jumped $30-$50 above fair. 5850's were selling for like $190-$200 and 5870's were selling for $225-$240. Why people would be willing to pay high prices for second hand items amazes me. When I buy from ebay I'm selective and patient sticking to my values, looking to get at least one year of use out of a card so I pay it off and generate some profit.
659  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 5970 just sold on ebay this morning... on: March 14, 2012, 03:52:14 AM
305$ Roll Eyes
It sold for $335 + $80 shipping.
So it really sold for market value. May have been sold to someone outside of North America with that shipping price. Such a low price would attract foreign buyers weighing market value where they live.
660  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Faith in a higher power. on: March 13, 2012, 11:24:08 PM
What is Faith?
Faith, pure faith, accepts or rejects without basis of reason, beyond the scope of that which is perceived through the five senses. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. This is why some scientists and sudo scientists (Atheists) have a problem with those who have faith.

What constitutes a higher power?
This depends on the ideal of the individual, and at what height the ideal is set. It can include a material goal like money or a spiritual goal like oneness with God, as well as anything in between. The higher the ideal the greater the achievement that's possible, so why limit yourself and be an underachiever. Wink
