641  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Selling 649btc bitcoinmax account. on: September 03, 2012, 09:43:17 AM
Is this still open?
still waiting for an offer i consider acceptable.
12% is better than you could've hoped for. If I was you, I'd take it.

I have a way to hedge, 10% seems fair.
Yeah, 10% seems fair to me. But you have already invested with Pirate. You'd better have a strong hedging instrument.
642  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Please stop sending me bitcoins... on: September 03, 2012, 09:38:40 AM
You're missing the point. The USD value is irrelevant and doesn't make an interesting story. It's interesting because Bitcoin enables these anonymous donations, with ease, and it creates a new dynamic wherein the journalist is forced to reject payments because of the anonymity.

In other words, it demonstrates how different BTC is, where it can be sent across the world to someone who doesn't even want it. It's so easy, it can simply slip over to someone who wasn't ready to receive it.
This argument is valid. I didn't look at it from this point. You've changed my mind.

And to some extend, aren't we all attention whores, anyway?
To some extent yes, but the difference is that we (or at least I) don't participate in this forum solely for attention. I seek new thoughts from people who, I believe, are more intelligent or have a deeper insight in Bitcoin. I purposefully use an aggressive style to provoke replies and get as much information as possible.

Hi Jon, How you're doing?

My name is not Jon.
643  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Top 5 people you trust in this community on: September 02, 2012, 02:25:45 PM
It depends on what kind of trust you mean.

If you mean transactions, I trust the major exchanges (although only to a limited extent) and I obviously trust myself. No one else.

645  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Selling 649btc bitcoinmax account. on: September 01, 2012, 12:34:40 PM
What are you looking for, ballpark?
35% would be nice, but i doubt i'll get that much judging from the offers i've had so far  Cry

I can do 10%
Looking to lose even more than you have lost so far?

Thank you all for your thoughts.
This thread has been very inspirational to me.
648  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Please stop sending me bitcoins... on: August 31, 2012, 04:52:59 PM
I mean .. he got about 40 dollars. Christ, how is it worth writing about? When he spends the money at a grocery store, should he write about it too?

As much as you might like it to, writing "invalid analogy is invalid" does not make the analogy invalid.
It does not. The analogy is invalid, because a whole article in newspaper can't be compared to forum posts.
If he needs to write about mundane everyday things like getting/spending $40 dollars then he apparently doesn't have any interesting topics and should get a different job.
649  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Please stop sending me bitcoins... on: August 31, 2012, 04:21:55 PM
Because he's a writer?
Do all writers write about tiny financial transactions? I doubt it.

Journalistic integrity?
He could've returned the bitcoins without writing about it. He's an attention whore.

oh look. you don't care about his article!
...
so what?
why did you have to create a post about it?
Invalid analogy is invalid. But so far the best reply to my post.

Come at me, bros!
650  Economy / Speculation / How deep do you expect the price to fall? on: August 31, 2012, 03:25:55 PM
So.. after a short rebound, the price continues to fall.
At which point (be it time or price) do you expect it to stop and go up again?

Later we will see how good speculators you are.
651  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Please stop sending me bitcoins... on: August 31, 2012, 03:08:21 PM
oh look. he got 4 bitcoins!
...
so what?
why did he have to write an article about it?
652  Economy / Economics / Re: I found pirate with his coins... on: August 30, 2012, 09:44:11 PM
Most of the coins never existed.  The figures banded about are mainly paper profits.  The half a million BTC that has been mentioned includes nearly a years worth of compounded 7% weekly interest.  I expect that he has a lot less than peole think (depending on how much he has used to pay out interest to those who didnt roll it over).
This.
500k is bullshit.
Sure, he's got a shitload of btcs, but nowhere around 500k.
653  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I Have a Business Idea for BTC, but I'm not Sure. on: August 30, 2012, 07:59:35 PM
Thanks, I guess I never looked at it that way. So obviously I'm not even thinking about this anymore, but for now what about that other website, Bitcoin Faucet? They give out some mBTC daily, and it's all kept alive by Advertisements like CoinUrl. What if you loaded the page with advertisements, and for them to claim the free daily mBTC, they had to go through a chain of CoinUrl links to get to the final page? And they can only get there once they've logged in the main website? Is this a bad idea?

As far as I know, Bitcoin Faucet is funded by private donations of individuals who want the community to grow.
As for your idea, I think it is not bad at all. Many conventional sites (not affilated with bitcoins) make money like this. They make people click through a chain of subsites with ads. But since you want to use free mBTCs as an incentive you'll have to balance out money gained from ads and money given to those who click (you have to gain more than give).

I recommend you find something else to offer. I mean some sort of service useful for those who use bitcoins. The infrastructure is underdeveloped and there are so many things to improve. If you find something really useful for people, you'll make much money. Good luck.
654  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Take a Break from the Pirate Talk and visit this thread.... :) on: August 30, 2012, 04:35:45 PM
I've been thinking about 4chan, more specifically /b/.
I know what you probably think, but don't be biased. It is a diverse, global, multi-million community with rather anarchic nature. Someone with good "evangelical" skills should make a Bitcoin thread on /b/ and /pol/ every few days.

I make one every day.

Also don't talk about it.

Really? To be honest, /b/ brought me to Bitcoin so .. thank you.

Also rules 1 & 2 only apply to raids. /b/ is notorious for its antics, so there's no point in not talking about it.

Except they are all broke 13 year olds.....
No, they are not. They are of various social backgrounds and there is many of them. Even if you persuade a small fraction of them, it would be a good contribution to the bitcoin community.
656  Economy / Speculation / Re: if bitcoin only served the "underground" economy... on: August 30, 2012, 04:14:25 PM
http://www.forbes.com/sites/benzingainsights/2011/11/07/rise-of-the-shadow-economy-second-largest-economy-in-the-world/

The black market economy is estimated to total $10,000,000,000,000.

If Bitcoin takes over...
.01% of the black market, then 1 BTC = ~ $47
1% of the black market, then 1 BTC = ~$4,761.90
10% of the black market, then 1 BTC = ~$47,619.05

Jon Matonis has previously discussed Bitcoin being an ideal currency for the black market here: http://www.forbes.com/sites/jonmatonis/2012/03/19/could-bitcoin-become-the-currency-of-system-d/

What if Bitcoin gets replaced by another cryptocurrency. I think it is quite likely.
657  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I Have a Business Idea for BTC, but I'm not Sure. on: August 30, 2012, 04:04:10 PM
This is not a ponzi scheme, but rather a pyramid scheme (also known as a pyramid game). The problem here is that there is a finite number of people. Therefore one day, there will be customers who won't be able to find new customers. Even if the whole world's population participated in your business, one day there would be no potential customers left. And participants in the 'last line' would end up paying huge entry fee and getting nothing in return.

Whether it is illegal or not depends on the country of your residence, I believe. In the USA, for example, it is illegal. By the way, in my country this was common about 20 years ago and much lulz were had. Well... many people lost all their savings, but it was both educational and hilarious in a perverted way  Grin

I hope I wasn't too harsh. If I was, please re-read my post in a calm and polite voice.

For more information, read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyramid_scheme and http://www.ftc.gov/speeches/other/dvimf16.shtm

Sigh. I wish Ayn Rand was around to see Bitcoin.

She'd be applauding pirate's ingenuity.

Wait a minute...what if Satoshi = Pirate = Zombie Ayn Rand....Huh

IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW!
Julian Assange is Pirate.
He ran to Ecuador to escape all the enraged nerds who lost their bitcoins.

This is him celebrating.
660  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Its Official Pirate Has Defaulted!! on: August 30, 2012, 09:48:15 AM
If this mess with pirate isnt straightened out, than the resulting media-hype will cause the general public to see bitcoin as a currency where you can run multimillion dolar scams and get away with it...not to mention it will act as a magnet attracting more "profesional" scams.
Then don't run around talking about a bitcoin scam to everyone you know irl. We've had enough of negative publicity. I wish those of you who got scammed would either effectively solve the problem or be quiet. But I think the exact oppositve will happen - everyone talking shit and doing nothing at all.
