This has nothing to do with your program, but I was having trouble importing my keys, and it turned out, out of the 1100 addresses, 6 or 7 were not actually valid addresses.  I'm slightly worried they will be used by my client in the future!  Anyway, thanks for the help and the awesome program!
642  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Android wallet balance viewer on: July 09, 2011, 09:21:08 PM
It might just be that I suck with the command prompt and know jack shit about using it.  When I ran the program from cmd.exe and right clicked to "select all" and copy, it only gave me 298, and it also only let me scroll up 298.  But if your program truly does catch all of them, then I just need to know how to tell it to print it's output into a text file.  Is there a way to do that?  I tried the >> /s [file] following it and that didn't work, and that's about the extent of my knowledge of command prompt.

run:

./decode > keys.txt

then copy the keys.txt file to your sdcard on your phone, and you should be able to import them.

Will

That worked brilliantly!  Thank you so very much!!!  (And sorry for bothering you with such a stupid problem!)
643  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Android wallet balance viewer on: July 09, 2011, 08:55:49 AM
I know it's dumb, but I made my wallet keep 1000 addresses in stead of the normal 100, and your decode tool only displays the first 300 or so.  Any way you could make it show up to 1100..Huh

this is strange, it should be exporting them all.  When you import the 300 keys into the android wallet, does it display your balance correctly?

OMG Bitcoin for Android https://github.com/barmstrong/bitcoin-android  works fucking flawlessly for me.  I'm in hog heaven!
647  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Usability of bitcoin on: July 07, 2011, 02:32:05 PM
1.  I agree with this point.  The main obstacle is portability and usability.  Fortunetely within the past week or two, this problem is being solved on many platforms....  This works flawlessly and opens up the door to all kinds of things.  When things like this start to happen, bitcoin could become huge.  Most likely there will just be a Paypal app instead, but there is a significant non-zero chance that bitcoin could corner that type of thing first and really wedge itself into the mainstream.

2.  Meh, most of my friends who I've talked to about it have been satisfied with "no, I promise you can't just copy the coins, and it's safe".  Although to be fair, I don't think they were interested.  Anybody who is truly interested in using it as money would surely want to know what they were doing.  So I can see your point here, although I'm not as worried about it as you are.  All that needs to be done is finding a short sweet brief explanation that makes them feel it's safe and reliable.

3.  Surely you can explain that time and electricity have value as well, so bitcoin is also "backed" but by a different form of limit resource.  (Then remind them that dollars aren't backed.)

4.  Yeah, so, and, but, therefore...??

5.  Are bitcoins more easily lost than cash???  The only reason you don't lose cash is because you keep it in a bank and can sue them if THEY lose it.  So for bitcoin, you just keep it in a "bank" like mybitcoin or an exchange like mtgox because if they fuck up you can demand--- OH WAITAMINUTE....  nm fair point.  GOXED

6.  If there is use, there is demand.  If there is demand, there is a market, legal or not.  Most likely instead of bitcoins being illegal, you'll just see Amazon Bucks and Chase Coins which aren't traded 1:1 with USD.  And because people are always brand loyal because they are comfortable with what they know, those will be used far more than bitcoins.  All the while, the money you pay your taxes with will still be used everywhere as well and be worth less and less.

All of this is the beauty of Bitcoin.  It HAS a purpose.  It IS USEFUL.  It is BACKED by effort and as stated, serves a purpose that nothing else serves, which gives it INTRINSIC value.  It's very programmed nature means it CANNOT be stopped.  Something similar may popup, but where it's Bitcoins or Bytecoins or FutureCoins, the type of thing that Bitcoin is is the future of money.  Bitcoin will prosper, or it will at least be the first and lay the road for what does end up taking root.  It's just too brilliant--it's what money should and will be.

Is there any chance you could at some point add an implementation of "sendmany" so I could send different amounts to different addresses in one single transaction?

651  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / want: win32 binary for bitcointools and other stuff on: July 04, 2011, 02:13:46 AM
I am not at all a programmer but I want to do some of the cool stuff that most people here can do, like use my own block chain for a localhost block explorer and import/export private keys, and view bitcoindays destroyed.  Has anybody put bitcoin tools and all that other stuff into a executable program for Windows idiots like me who don't know anything other than how to open a program by double-clicking on it??....

I just saw this same post over on 2+2 about full tilt poker.  I guess I just don't have that much sympathy for people who keep their whole roll online.

So is there any chance you'll ever start taking moneybookers?
654  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Looking to buy 115 BTC on: July 03, 2011, 11:23:07 AM
I also send you a PM.  I can take Dwolla or Liberty Reserve and can do the whole order as well.

You add moneybookers to your list and I'm all over that exchange.

+1.  If you've got the notion, I second that emotion.
657  Economy / Goods / Re: new real tangible physical bitcoin coin on: July 02, 2011, 12:18:21 AM
I just bought one and did as the site asked and didn't fill out my info and close the window until I sent payment.  However, I DID manage to do all that between sending and before 1st confirmation of sending.  Was that bad?  It's been a whopping five whole minutes and I didn't get an e-mail confirmation, so I'm starting to worry.  I want to make sure I get my coinbit because they look so neat and I really really wants one!
658  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A disadvantage of NOT being recognized as currency by governments on: July 01, 2011, 05:59:26 PM
OP:  .... And having things like TOR around allows for child rapists and murders to communicate with each other.  Theoretically, a silk road human/sex trafficking market could emerge (or already exist).

The down side to privacy and freedom is that the bad guys also have it.  You have to decide for yourself if this is something you can live with.
659  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Screenplay for a Bitcoin TV Ad. on: June 30, 2011, 01:07:07 PM
I don't like that ad idea.  It seems a lot more like a circlejerk for people who already know about bitcoin.  What you need to do is come up with an ad that shows bitcoin to newcomers.  The ad you have is way too dramatic for Joe Schmoe to take it seriously.

What you need to do is open it with a talk about what type of values bitcoin has.  Freedom, choice, no central authority, complete control, anonymity, etc.  These are personal values about how the world should work.  Bitcoin is merely a way to meet those values.

So you talk about values, then you introduce bitcoin, then you briefly explain what bitcoin is and how it works, and you give a URL for more info.  Just my 2 cents...
660  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Launch of BitPay, worlds first smartphone-wallet for bitcoins on: June 30, 2011, 12:19:09 PM
I just downloaded the version in the Android Market. I realize this is a very early release, but there are a few features that would make it a lot more convenient:
  • copy/paste addresses (!)
  • an address book
  • allow me to see the address of my Instawallet, so I can access my money if my phone is lost or destroyed (!!!)

I also vote for those ideas, except the last one.  Your Instawallet address generated by the program is shown in the "credits" tab at the bottom.

Also, the program keeps force closing on me right after the barcode scanner snaps the QR code.  I made a QR code in the exact same format in an attempt to test it and the program just force closes.  Still, I like the idea, it's a great interface, and as soon as you allow for a text box to type/paste addresses, and have an in-client address book, (and of course, get it working for me!), I will be ecstatic.  This is what will allow bitcoin to flourish.

Edit:  I'm using a rooted Droid 1 with UD 2.5
