theymos could take it further if he wanted too, unless he's given permission prior to the site going up. If the operator of a mirror hasn’t got permission they are breaching copyright laws. Although, I see mirrors as being a good thing, when this forum goes down either for maintenance or of an attack. The mirror could resort back to another backup whilst work is being done on this forum. Therefore, people can still read information whilst the main forum is down.
6402  Other / Meta / Re: REMOVE NUBBINS FROM THE DEFAULT TRUST LIST FOR REPEATED TRUST ABUSE on: January 28, 2015, 06:18:36 PM
Considering we are basically pattern recognising machines it's fairly easy to spot alternate accounts. Although, a normal user may not have the proof which you ask for I'm almost certain Badbear would, however that doesn't mean he can give that information away either to an individual or publicly. Anyway, why would Badbear lie about having information? It wouldn't benefit him in anyway, it could only damage is reputation if found out.

I can guarantee you BadBear didn't base his feedback just off another member's, and it doesn't have to be just down to the same IP. If they both use exactly the same browser and operating system then that's good enough evidence in this case (and he may have other evidence I'm not aware of). Also, you're right that people sticking up for another isn't conclusive evidence alone but it certainly arouses suspicion, especially when they type the same way and use the same insults etc. More than a coincidence is it not?
To be fair if  they are all using Windows then it doesn't really help the case, or even ubuntu. If they are using another operating system then it could be more obvious. Same goes as the browser. Most users probably vary with both operating system and browser, I know I've logged in on about 5 different operating systems and browsers because some browsers aren't easy to setup in some distributions. But, you are right if they all match then it does raise suspicious that much more.
6403  Other / New forum software / Re: Embeed YouTube videos on: January 28, 2015, 05:52:58 PM
Flash is insecure and that's the reason why it's not used on the current forum software. Embedding SWF would be annoying also. I don't see the hardship of linking a video.
6404  Other / Meta / Re: Mods killing an hardware manufacturers poll on: January 28, 2015, 03:42:24 PM
It's likely that other members also reported the thread(s). Not just dogie, they would of been in their right as confirmed by multiple staff members. If this is going to turn into a personal argument between you and dogie maybe you should take it elsewhere. The thread was deleted because it was spam, normally the procedure of dealing with spam is deleting it, not moving it. There's no hard ship in making the thread again, especially since most of the text will be stored in drafts. Of course you lost the votes from before, but you can ask politely if they would vote again. My perception is that theymos was kind for providing you with a alternative.

I see that it's now off site.
6405  Other / Meta / Re: PM restriction for new accounts is needed on: January 28, 2015, 02:33:02 PM
When you receive a message, don't you see the person's activity count and membership group (hero, senior, etc)?
I thought the number of scams succeeding would be really low.

Yes you do.

Maybe a flashing bright red "NEWBIE" warning on PMs by newbies would be enough to deter impersonators/scammers, while not preventing legitimate new users from asking their questions?

Onkel Paul
I wouldn't mind a red label, but not a flashing red label as that would become annoying quickly. Maybe add a warning to the footer of the message for every newbie message. I still don't think it's necessary.
6406  Other / Meta / Re: PM restriction for new accounts is needed on: January 28, 2015, 02:00:40 PM
Making them make one post would give more chances for someone to notice that someone is using a "fake" account and call them out for it and/or give them negative trust. (It increased visibility to the account)

If they don't make a post they are more likely to have neutral trust as of when they send the message.
People should be able to use their brain, I Know it doesn't go on a lot these days but, we can't spoon feed everyone. This restriction would just lead to unwanted messages which the mods would have to deal with.
6407  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: please help me on: January 28, 2015, 11:02:56 AM

6408  Other / Meta / Re: Mods killing an hardware manufacturers poll on: January 28, 2015, 10:57:00 AM
If anything this is making you look unprofessional. You've got a great thing going and shouldn't let something like this ruin that.

Quote
Why not simply to move the poll questions to Archival and ask Philip to change his post ?
Why should they? It's spam. Spam gets deleted.

Quote
Why the aggressive delete without any explanation ?
It wasn't aggressive. They are doing their job, you've had your explanation even though they didn't need to give you one.

Quote
Are you covering for another mod action with an explanation after the fact ?
Don't turn this into a conspiracy. Why would he be covering? The threads got deleted because posting all those topics when they could be included in one thread is ridiculous.

Quote
Was the deleting was done due to another Dogie complain ?
I should imagine a lot of people reported those threads.

Quote
Direct question: Did you delete the poll posts ?
Why does it matter who deleted them? They got deleted. It shouldn't matter who deleted them. There's a reason why the modlog doesn't show who deleted them.

The issue has been dealt with, theymos gave you a way which he would allow. It's been done and should be forgotten about instead of looking to attack members.

I'm not defending spondoolies, I simply don't like bitmain & dogie spam!

The messenger was Spondoolies-Tech himself!
If you really believe bitmain & dogie are spamming, then you would report it.
6409  Economy / Lending / Re: 2 BTC loan paid in 2 months. Metaljar.com collateral. on: January 27, 2015, 11:18:14 PM
Most of those valuation sites, are not accurate. At the end of the deal if you needed a loan that desperately, you would just sell that domain instead. Of course it's not worth that, it's worth as much as people want to pay for it. I for one wouldn't pay more than it's original registration price.

Provide some better collateral.
6410  Other / Meta / Re: bot made accounts on: January 27, 2015, 07:04:26 PM
Where exactly is the patrol page?
For it to be visible you need to enable it in your account settings, it's under "Forum Profile Information". Check the box that says: "Show patrol link". The hyperlink is left top of the page, under "Show new replies to your posts" and above "Watchlist". Here's the link to patrol: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=recent;patrol
6411  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: I need 5 btc for my debt can somebody here help me? on: January 27, 2015, 03:26:34 PM
I think your intentions have been made clear, but I will ask before jumping the gun and giving you negative feedback; Do you have anything you can provide as collateral?
6412  Other / Meta / Re: necro threads on: January 27, 2015, 03:22:24 PM
Well if the thread has tens of pages, one can't really know if it was already discussed. It takes time to check on an individual basis.
I was never suggesting a rule, that would be harsh.
Well, yeah that is true. But, that gives me the idea the user hasn't read the thread and doesn't have much interest in it anyway. Normally if someone has any interest in the thread they will read most of the replies. I know a lot of people don't do it and I would be guilty of that on multiple instances. But, yeah that is a problem in the larger threads and I don't have any answers for that one.
6413  Other / Meta / Re: necro threads on: January 27, 2015, 03:07:57 PM
So it would be okay if I start reviving threads that Satoshi made many years back? (not that I would do this)
Making a related post isn't that hard, just saying. Maybe there should be an unofficial "time limit" or something?
If it's bringing up a valid point which your not repeating I don't see a problem. If you are bringing up something which has already been discussed in that thread, then no it should be reported in my opinion. It's hard to judge in some cases there's no solid rule and that's why it's up to the moderators on a individual basis. I don't think we should make the rule that if x number of days have gone you can't post regardless what you are posting.
6414  Other / Meta / Re: necro threads on: January 27, 2015, 02:20:46 PM
The problem is that other people (sometimes even me) don't realize that the thread was necro'd. I rarely read the date/time of any post actually.
A few people post without noticing, and the conversation starts.
If it's a discussion which is related to the topic, then I don't see why this is a problem. Unless, you see people posting to pad their post count, but then they are breaking a rule anyway and will be reported. There's genuine reasons to necro a thread and it doesn't matter if others contribute to it without realising the date as long as it's contributing to the thread and isn't breaching any other rules.
6415  Other / Meta / Re: bot made accounts on: January 27, 2015, 11:15:30 AM
I'd be willing to remove bot-made accounts - I'm pretty good at detecting and cleaning up forum spam Smiley
@mods: PM me when you think I can be trusted and the work would be useful.

Onkel Paul
You can do that by using the "Report to moderator" button. If you only want to get rid of bots, they are normally only newbies so go over to the patrol page and report them whenever you see them. I'm sure the mods will appreciate it.
6416  Other / Meta / Re: Google showing strange results for this forum on: January 26, 2015, 08:22:59 PM
Remove the ";wap2" from the end of the URL, it will show the page normally then. So here's the link for that thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=25804.0

Code: (Example)
Original URL: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=25804.0;wap2
New/modified URL: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=25804.0
6417  Economy / Services / Re: Bitcoin Wallet Password Recovery (Only doing by request) on: January 26, 2015, 07:28:12 PM
Hi, I'm going to PM you - I really need help with my blockchain.info wallet. I can't seem to remember the 2nd password, or if I am remembering it, there was a discrepency in what I wrote down to "be" the actual password. Anyway blockchain tells me the 2nd password is wrong, and I need help! I can't do anything with the btc in the wallet without both passes :/
If you've messaged me, you might want to try again. I've had a lot of personal messages and they can get lost and accidentally deleted now and again.

How much would you charge for a small number like 2 bitcoin? i have lost my password to my multibit wallet
I don't charge, tips are appreciated but, not required. With Multibit there's a different way of extracting what I need and normally requires you to use a third party tool like pywallet for example. Just shoot me a personal message and we go into more detail and see what can be done. Although, I'm not actively running this service any more, if you know a lot of your password then I will take it into consideration.
6418  Other / Meta / Re: Forum ranks/positions/badges (What do those shiny coins under my name mean?) on: January 26, 2015, 05:15:45 PM
So really you dont need to post a lot to keep going up every two weeks right? Has someone calculate the minimum to post to keep up?
You only need to post once in each 2 week interval.

Quote
Also sorry if I bother but does the rank ever go down if no posts?
No, activity will not go down if you don't make any new posts. It will remain the same.
6419  Other / Meta / Re: What happened with forum search? on: January 26, 2015, 02:36:51 PM
It's been disabled for now, because of the recent forum downtime. Basically theymos needs to regenerate the index. It's only temporary. He hasn't given a date to expect it to be functioning again.

Read about the recent downtime here

6420  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal: Disable "normal users" from being able to lock Scam Accusations on: January 26, 2015, 02:35:47 PM
Even if you think it has been proven that he is a scammer, he still has the right to defend himself. I don't think you would like it if someone presented some evidence that you were scamming and then locked the thread making it difficult for you to defend yourself.
They can defend themselves by opening another thread, if anything if someone makes a claim that you scammed and then they lock the thread it just looks like they are craving attention.
