cui bono ?
the people bitching about knc hate those hashing monsters because they invested in avalon chips or else. if they keep people from buying from knc it pays out. i was about to order big time avalon chips when i stumbled across knc. i decided - in the last moment - to switch. what would my feelings be if i had ordered a few days earlier ? would i hate them... or me?   (on the other hand: i should actually not defend knc. the less they sell, the better for me, since i already did order  )

it is incredible though how soft the community is about avalon and how hatefull some are towards knc. i am invested in avalon batch III and i ordered 500 avalon chips and i regret batch III

in a way the competiteveness of the asic miner producers stains through to us - the customers. keep that in mind while enjoying this show.
(i posted this in the kncminer open day first)

here are some pics i took.

Great pics, but looking at the hardware you're now purchasing, I'd contemplate upgrading your name.

I've booked my flight now, which, due to limited availability, was both expensive and err...very, very early to the furthest Stockholm airport. Joy! Cheesy

I hope it is arlanda. then just take the arlanda express to downtown station. Takes 20 min. Then take Taxi to orsoc. Takes 5 min.
Be sure to grab some krones at the airport. Bring credit Card with pin. The swedes all talk english. Write knc a message they should try to serve refrigerated beverages this time. There is a best western Hotel right around the corner.
Finally: be faster with your feedback than the suckers from last wednesday...

mars in action. almost no noise, but plenty of heat radiation

power supply

examples of other orsoc chip design

asic done by orsoc

mars actually mines

me and my brother spent approx. 2 k € to attend there. (no hookers, no party, just flights and avarage hotel, cheapest room)
if you think what we did was worth a donation feel free: 19ibzUwVHbSuYsBVfL2mLXrXCUSFg9uEp4

here is some additional information about the open day. i try to be as non-redundant as possible towards what deadterra, daggeteo and johnyj contributed:

disclaimer: those are just my observations, i am no expert in hardware (which you will notice). i had ordered jupiters, but i wanted to check if kncminer is for real before i pay. so i went there to meet the guys. they have convinced me, but that is maybe not really worth anything. asic chip designing is orsoc´s routine job. so for them convincing a non-expert should not be hard.

the open day was held at a downtown stockholm office of orsoc. it was a regular working day, there were offices with people being busy. having a downtown office of this size (maybe 5/6 rooms with overall probably 200qm) did fit my expectations about orsoc from what i learned at the epic kncminer thread in this forum.
we were greeted by andreas kennemar, sam cole, marcus erlandson and michael unnebäck. they were friendly, confident, open and relaxed but serious. it was clearly not the first time that they met with customers about projects. erlandson and unnebäck stated that they both had decades of experience with custom hardware including asic and fpga. they gave us the impression that asic bitcoin mining is actually not "high-end" when it comes to asic engineering.

all four sat in front of the guests and answered almost all the questions asked. the 28nm asics were designed by them but will be produced in asia (china?), they will order the wafers as soon as payment is closed, so they know the quantity. they will order more than needed. the asic producer is waiting, they have pre-arranged it in a way that production can start immediately. the coding is done. the assembly of the asics onto the boards will be done in sweden, but is outsorced, same with putting the boards together. the devices will be tested individually but this takes only 10 minutes. they offer to test it in a way where it mines towards the buyers wallet (but i am not sure if i got that right) they will try to come up with a plug and play set up since they designed the hardware and did the software also.
water cooling will probably not happen since hosters are not happy with fluids that are conducting electricity. they don´t expect heating/cooling to be an issue. they rather put more chips on the board and calm down the load per chip. the design is prepared to handle/cool 1000 watt input. the fans they showed looked impressive (too bad, no pic, but i will try to find something similar) they have time buffers implemented and seem very confident about the time frame.

there are no batches. they will try to deliver as constantly as orders come in. they will order more chips than needed to have always enough chips. after the delivery of their devices has started they will monitor the dollar/hashrate ratio and if this ratio starts looking bad, they will improve their products. they stated that they are not expecting large profit in the beginning.

my impression was that they are professionals with lots of years of experience. it is not an idealistic start-up, but pro´s that like to show the bitcoin community how asic design is done in the real world.

scam ? no way. risky ? yep.
i am more concerned about difficulty in october or bitcoin price than about kncminer being able to built what they have planned. will they deliver in time ? no one knows.

the cooling device they showed looked similar to this one. i just googled this one, IT IS NOT WHAT THEY ARE ACTUALLY USING. i just say that something like this was on the table when they talked about cooling.

6435  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [CLOSED] Avalon ASIC chip distribution on: June 07, 2013, 12:25:09 PM
that is incredible,

avalon star is sinking fast. i am engaged in avalon batch 3 group buy and your avalon chip group buy batch 7. approx. 8 k € is only a fraction of your batch 8 problem, but still is a mess.

i suggest if avalon is not responding correctly, the loss at batch 8 should be devided up within the other batches. i would be willing to donate my share.

edit: i had several issues with probable loss at exchanges, but it got sorted

the community should try to stick together to avoid terrible losses to individuals. we all - more or less - profited in this game so far. why not give some back ?

Thanks for the kind words and your offer for helping me to recover from that loss. Really appreciate it, but I am not going to involve you buyers in this. First, it is not yet a loss: Avalon might decide to check one day and refund me the coins. Second, the 10% premium I charged from you are meant exactly for covering this kind of risks. This time I lost, next time it might work out better.

Cheers

noble. i wish you luck.
6436  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: June 07, 2013, 12:17:11 PM
concerning the kncminer project current miners have two choices: either invest in kncminer to keep the edge or try what they can do to make it harder for kncminer to succeed.

wannabe miners may have a stake in bfl = dissappointment, or in avalon = mostly dissappointment, or in avalon chip buy = compete with kncminer september deadline

since kncminer proposes to be a game changer this is the only reasonable entry point for anyone who wants to become a miner.

this is why kncminer threads are so inflated. high hopes vs high fears. sometimes within the same person...
6437  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin at $112! on: June 07, 2013, 11:59:36 AM
Bitpay is cashing out kncminer's pre-order bitcoin for USD, i guess that's in the magnitudes of millions of USD Cheesy

that´s what i would call counter productive.

all the millions of dollars going into mining projects in the last couple of months -- what affects could this have on the bitcoin price?

Hi folks,
Sorry for the wait but the meeting was around 2 hours and it takes a shitload of  time to process all questions and make it fairly clear what was said.

Hopefully this will answer some of your questions and help you form a better perception on whether KNCminer is the real deal or not, ie if they can do this.

Since I don't wish to bombard the forum with a crazy amount of text I've put it in a GDoc. Let me know if there are any issues.

6440  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should mBTC become the default unit now on: June 06, 2013, 02:24:16 PM
mbtc is the answer

What the fuck is the question?

Perhaps "What can we talk about repeatedly that is already supported in the reference client and in wide use by anyone who wants to use it?"

Edit:

Seriously though, if you like it, use it.  It's that easy.  There is nothing to discuss.  You can't force something like this from the top down in this type of community.  You just have to do what you think is best and if other people agree they will pick it up too.

agreed.

i would prefer convincing over forcing.
