6481  Economy / Lending / Re: .2 btc loan 2 days paid back .22 btc on: January 11, 2015, 01:14:48 PM
The answer is still the same as the other day: Other loan request

Plus, lying isn't seen as a good quality, if you are looking to lend funds off someone:

Some sad news today, one of the up and coming stars Junior Malanda, 20, Belgium international has died in a car accident. He played for Wolfsburg. It's believed to be he was the passenger in the car.

Check out this link for the article. (BBC SPORT)

Wolfsburg police said Malanda was a passenger in a car that crashed on a motorway near the German city of Bielefeld.
He was en route to meet up with his team-mates to fly out to South Africa for a training camp.
6483  Other / Meta / Re: Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ on: January 10, 2015, 08:51:36 PM
You can create "local" rules to new threads that you create that would apply to that thread only and are in addition to the forum rules.
Self moderated threads were introduced (march 2013 they were introduced I believe). Which effectively allows you to decide your own rules. Local rules may still apply to Scam Accusations, Important Announcements, and Auctions as self moderated threads may not be created in those sections to my knowledge. So, they might be valid everywhere, but most people would just make a self moderated thread instead except where it isn't possible.
6484  Economy / Lending / Re: .5 loan repayment on Two days. on: January 10, 2015, 08:00:16 PM
I do not have collateral but have made previous deal here.
I'm sorry, but that isn't going to cut it. You need to offer some sort of collateral which is considered to be valid by the lender. Reputation doesn't go a long way in this part of the forum.
6485  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Core popup? on: January 10, 2015, 07:23:50 PM
Blockchain found nothing for my latest receiving address or my computer's IP, so I'm assuming that means nothing happened. However, I have sent and received a lot of transactions in the past, but still blockchain finds zero transactions
blockchain.info isn't always accurate. There are a number of different block explorers which I would recommend looking at and searching up the address, for a list of block explorers: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=636463.0

Is there a tutorial for "dumping the private keys and importing or sweeping it?"
You can either dump it by using parameters/commands or you can use pywallet.

If you are interested in dumping via the commands then you should look here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Original_Bitcoin_client/API_calls_list

Code:
 dumpprivkey
will be particularity useful.

Otherwise, the pywallet tutorial can be found here: https://github.com/jackjack-jj/pywallet

That includes the download of pywallet (jackjack) also the page includes the commands which you can use as well as a read me for installing and using pywallet.

Code:

--version             show program's version number and exit
-h, --help            show this help message and exit
--dumpwallet          dump wallet in json format
--importprivkey=KEY   import private key from vanitygen
--importhex           KEY is in hexadecimal format
--datadir=DATADIR     wallet directory (defaults to bitcoin default)

6486  Other / Meta / Re: "Ignore" button on: January 10, 2015, 05:22:54 PM
Yes you can, blocking someone's pms is different from ignoring you.

That's right. Whoops. Thought he may of been talking about people ignoring him on pms and not the general ignore button.
6487  Other / Meta / Re: "Ignore" button on: January 10, 2015, 05:15:57 PM
You can't send personal messages to anyone who is ignoring you.
6488  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Core popup? on: January 10, 2015, 04:37:27 PM
No I'm running Windows 8 currently

Also, update: The window now says "Warning: Please check that your computer's date and time are correct! If your clock is wrong, Bitcoin will not work properly."

My computer's date and time are working fine, always have been...

So I can download a new version of BitcoinCore and import my wallet backup there and everything will be in place?

It might be worth checking the debug.log file and letting us know what it says. This error seems to be pretty common and is normally easy to fix, however it may work by simply reinstalling.

You can also try manually synchronizing the time with Windows time servers, your computer may seem to be correct but, the timezone could be set incorrectly. (I can't imagine this being the problem though)

Another option is checking the date & time in the bios.
6489  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Core popup? on: January 10, 2015, 04:31:54 PM
Does my client have to be open and running for the balance to send?
If it crashed prior to you submitting it, then it wouldn't have sent. If you submitted it & the client processed the request it would of.

Quote
Will this crashing thing affect that transaction?
You can check whether it's sent by looking up your address, if it has sent there will be no effect on the transaction.

Quote
Will uninstalling and re downloading and installing the wallet get rid of this problem?
At the moment, if you are using the Linux latest version of Bitcoin core, there is a problem which involves OpenSSL, so reinstalling may not have any effect. Read more here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=919373.0

Quote
If I saved a backup .dat file of my wallet and load it into a newly installed version of bitcoincore, will it still have the rest of my coins and all of my transaction logs in there?
Yes, if the output request didn't send, then you will have your coins there. If the transaction did output, then the coins you sent will go to the address you sent them too, but anything else remaining in the wallet will be there. All transactions are public, therefore you can search up the transaction log on the internet.

Your problem may not be related to the OpenSSL problem, and it may have just been a Blockchain error.

The search in the forum isn't good, try Google with parameter site:bitcointalk.org. For example, to search about signature campaigns, signature campaigns site:bitcointalk.org.

Of course, I use this when the search function of this forum doesn't pick up what I want to find, although it is pretty accurate if your know what category the post you are looking for is in. If searching from the landing page of this forum then things can get a little messy. I've always found the search function to be fairly accurate if you know what you are looking for. I've moderated a few SMF forums and would say that a lot of people have had difficulty and I can understand why.

Google is always preferred obviously.

How do I become a member or full member? Keep posting?
The information is all here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178608.0

Whenever, unsure of something you can either use the search  function located in the top right, or check for recently threads in the suitable category.

Me? Keeping someone in line? I highly doubt it and I'm sure that I won't need to. BadBear is a good guy, haven't had that much contact with SaltySpitoon, so I can't judge about him.
Little joke, badbear being is name. Then SaltySpitoon:

Welcome to the SaltySpitoon, how Tough are ya?
I have nothing against them, I believe they are doing a fantastic job, and have contacted Salty numerous times. Both are very dedicated to the forum.

Just noticed this:

It says 60 days in the op, though that does seem a long time for a first offence but it's clear to see there's little effort going into his posts.

Yeah, I just saw it and edited my post (must be my tied eyes). Yeah, ever since his first post they have been of poor quality. I should imagine this isn't his first offence.
6495  Other / Meta / Re: Banned why!??Moderators!! on: January 10, 2015, 12:31:17 PM
i got banned but i dont know why...i dont think my posts were spam at all

There might be another reason, but looking over the posts that you have made with that account, they aren't particularly constructive. Most are just a sentence which don't add to the discussion. It seems like you may of been doing this on purpose to boost your post count, because of the signature campaign you are involved in.

Of course that's my interpretation, and it could be another reason why you have been banned. But, I would say it was due to the quality & quantity of posts you were making.

Login, to your account and tell us what the exact message says, we can confirm whether it's permanent or temporary. Although, if this is your first ban/warning then it's likely the staff team gave you the benefit of the doubt and it's only a temporary ban. Looking at your posts though, it's likely you were warned way before this happened.

He claims to have lost over 4k bitcoins, how is that very good coding skill? (we know he stole it, but how can you call him a good coder when he says he lost it?)
I believe he was a decent programmer. Even if this wasn't a inside job, it doesn't make you a bad programmer that you missed something which someone else found out. Peoples brains operate differently, or may be more skilled. It doesn't make him a bad programmer.

Although, for holding such a large amount of coins, he should of invested in some penetration testing. (He might have) But, as far as I'm aware he coded it himself and probably didn't think it would be a problem checking for security issues himself.

Sadly, I too had money stored there. Which I didn't get back (lucky I was wise enough not to store much there), But I'm not going to go throw shit at the wall and call him a bad programmer. I might.

It doesn't matter if I believe he stole it or not, we can't prove it and we are speculating.

I don't know if you've read the Bitcoin whitepaper, seems most people just skip past it these days. Check it out: https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.

6499  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Price Dropping ? How can I Protect The Value Of My Bitcoin. on: January 02, 2015, 06:48:48 PM
If BTC is worth a penny today, please say again its not the price that is important.
I will have to pay 100,000 BTC for a flight ticket  which is 30 mill $ .
yeah its not important.

what can you do with BTC alone if you cant convert it to fiat?
please tell me someone.

I believe I said: most important . Oh, even if it does go down to a penny, it doesn't mean Bitcoin has failed. Anyone who is not in it for the money are intrigued by the concept of Bitcoin & the concept of the Blockchain.

Of course, we all love to make money. But, I see increasing numbers of users joining looking to make a quick buck and not taking any interest in the concept.

Anyway, I'm not going to into depth as I have work to do. However, I will say that some users here don't even look at the fiat price tied with Bitcoin, but Bitcoin as Bitcoin.

Quote
hat can you do with BTC alone if you cant convert it to fiat?
do you really think that all the merchants accepting BTC would NOT care about the price?
please tell me someone.

Well, I don't know? Use Bitcoin.

To learn about Bitcoin a good place to start is reading the whitepaper: https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf
