6521  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why have to hard fork instead of modify few lines of code? on: June 04, 2015, 05:14:19 PM
-snip-

Why do we have to hard fork the blockchain? why not just modify these codes at bitcoin-qt, and every one using bitcoin-qt can recognize the lagger block.

Not everyone, the old versions would not accept the node as valid, thus splitting the network into those running old versions and those running new versions. This is what is called a hard fork as your client either accepts the changes or not. The number of lines you have to edit does not matter. It also does not matter if you push the hard fork into the future by a certain number of blocks, it only lessens the impact of the change as its more likely for people to update over a long period of time than it is over a short period of time.
6522  Other / Meta / Re: can I edit the Auction thread ? on: June 04, 2015, 04:50:46 PM
Its possible -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1080363.0

created in auction, moved to off topic, waited 10 minutes to make sure the edited message shows, edited, moved back into auction.

With that example it is obvious that the OP was edited. What would be more concerning would be if someone were to create an auction thread, then in the middle of the auction, clarify some term or add some feature to what is being sold in a subsequent post, move the thread, remove the subsequent post, then move the thread back. It would be very difficult to tell that this happened

Yes, you basically have 10 minutes on any post to change it without obvious hints. Staff might be able to see that the thread was moved, but users would not. In my example I deliberately did not create a redirection thread to make this as silent as possible (and obviously keep the spam this produces at a minimum).

Im not entirely sure this can be misused though. You would need to make someone place a bet quickly and only change the post a little bit to make it plausible that the user betting did misread the post.
6523  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Do You have a Bitcoin Full Node running (24/7)? on: June 04, 2015, 04:46:17 PM
-snip regarding incentive-

You will need to run a web server that is showing at least the address you want to register. Afterwards you run the curl command given from the same IP. As you are behind your router this can be done from any machine in your local network (unless its using proxy, VPN, tor, etc.). This means both here. The web server can be a different or the same machine the command can be used from a different or the same machine.

More about the incentive here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=952996.0

There are also tips for Windows running a server IIRC.

6524  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: block 359,391 on: June 04, 2015, 04:41:16 PM
ah this could explain why my last transaction was still stuck there even with proper fee...

this is not really certainly pleasant for anyone running a serious bsiness with bitcoin

It might be an issue among peers that do not trust each other and are in a hurry, I doubt its an issue for serious businesses.

6527  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are you using less Bitcoin than you did last year? on: June 04, 2015, 04:15:14 PM
I am using it more, basically because I have a lot more than I did last year, and can't afford spending a bit more.
I would use it daily if my wage was paid on BTC.

There is actually a service that does that, not sure if its offered for your employer, but its worth checking out: https://www.bitwage.co/

If I told my boss "hey, I can't stand this dollar shit anymore, can you pay me in Bitcoin?" He would probably call the shrink and put me on a mental institution.

Unless you are working something Bitcoin related, it's not easy to find a boss that will understand what even Bitcoin is to bother. Too early yet.

Click the link, you dont have to tell your boss anything but your new bank account information.

Hallo,

Was? Hab doch grad noch Pizza bestellt.

Last block created an hour ago,Is that possible, I thought it takes 10 minutes for a block.

... on average. Mining is basically a random process and finding a block can take longer. It also happens that a few block are found in quit succession.

Edit: ~5800 TX are currently waiting for confirmation, so we will need 2-3 blocks to clear the backlog.
6532  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scamming faucets on: June 04, 2015, 02:58:11 PM
So if I setup a faucet which says it will pay 1 bitcoin per hour and once a user redeems I show him the message that your 1 bitcoin has been sent to your wallet and sent 1 satoshi to his wallet. It is no scam?

Of course, it is not scam. This can be categorized to unfair, dishonest etc... but not a scam.

I think it is. Lets say I promise you payment for work, e.g. posting here and once you have delivered the work I just pay you less. Most would consider this a scam. A faucet is no different in that regard, the work is just very simply and quickly done. Mostly its loading ads while you solve a captcha to make sure you are present. The question is whether they actually said they would pay X or if they advertise to pay "up to X" and OP was lured into believing that X is given to everyone and not only a certain percentage of lucky visitors.
6533  Other / New forum software / Re: Resolution Independent Web Pages on: June 04, 2015, 02:46:52 PM
In general it bothers me that web pages have been made to work for specific widths of displays.  What happens is I will only see the left side of each sentence.  It is a good thing that Opera allows you to zoom but then the font size is too small.

sdp

Opera Mini for Android refits bitcointalk.org very well. There is a new version for that browser but I did not use it yet to read here.
6534  Other / Meta / Re: can I edit the Auction thread ? on: June 04, 2015, 10:08:38 AM
No you can't. It's to prevent users from editing terms and bids without the public eye knowing. However, you can lock an auction thread.

and ironically move it into a section where you can edit it, you might even be able to move it back. Which would make the whole "cant edit here" setting useless. IIRC "TheGambler" moved auction threads into e.g. tech support and heavily changed the thread to make it look like a legit tech support question.

2af4556fccbf72c1f2ba60b22700f265b220ca5838d7d8196eda18ef12c8bc03

Genau, is seit Heute Morgen bestätigt.

6536  Local / Anfänger und Hilfe / Re: Transaktionsdauer on: June 03, 2015, 03:23:36 PM
Danke euch!

#a liegt an #c
#d Die Netzwerk Ausbreitung gibt an wieviele (geschätzt!)

6537  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Check Balance of Multiple Bitcoin Addresses ( Non py, Non Linux ) on: June 03, 2015, 11:52:38 AM
I tried Shorena java software, but it not work for me.

I have a thousand address on different computer / android / paper wallet and also
trying to find way to simple track all this addresses.

The java version does not work because bc.i is no longer answering this kind of API requests. Use the curl shell script (I edited the post it has a link) which uses blocktrails API. You will need an API key and you will be limited to ~20-30 requests over a few sections. Thus its probably best to modifiy the code if you have >>30 addresses to check.

The average transaction volume per day is down more than 20% for 2015.

I wonder why there is no graphic for this.

6539  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Private Key on: June 03, 2015, 11:30:34 AM
You only need to backup mnemonic seed. If you backup it, you are safe.

True, but in case of a fork electrum might only work for one of the possible bitcoin forks[1].

With Electrum 1.9.8. you click Wallet -> Private Keys -> Export -> "enter password" -> OK -> "read warning" -> OK -> save

It will create an unencrypted(!) .csv file with all private keys and corresponding addresses.

[1] Add for clarity: Im referring to the possible split into two distinct coins Bitcoin and Bitcoin XT here, not a fork within the same coin.
