It would be so, except things are not as you have described.  You and I can on the cable, see movies with their versions of sexuality, or subscribe to the playboy channel etc, or hit the internet  nipples ad nauseum.

The old rules of broadcast television are just a blip while we speed down the road.
...
True. I forget that because I do not have cable/sat. For me I see nothing worth the money on television. My point is that we seem to be fine with violence compared to sexuality. We play a pretending game that hiding genitals means protecting people from their own animal urges. Yet little attention is paid to reining in our more dangerous urge to better our position by hurting others.

I appreciate all the homework! There are so many new options popping up now that it is hard to keep track.

Saying that I support elizabeth because I have a jewish last name, is that part of the quote or did you decide the quoted bigotry wasn't enough?
The funny part is that Elizabeth is not even a Jew. She is a woman though, perhaps our resident bigots could go after that?  Roll Eyes
6545  Economy / Speculation / Re: Money over IP a threat to bitcoin on: September 12, 2013, 01:59:02 PM
Is Venmo usable overseas, or does it only use USD? If it is not global then it is in no way a threat.

EDIT: Oh I see now. It only works in the U.S.
6546  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Assault weapon bans on: September 12, 2013, 01:35:22 PM
.
You wouldn't be able to guess that looking at America now. It is way more sexually repressed than most of Europe. So, compare the sexually repressed America to the much more sexually liberal Europe, and you'll clearly see that more repression here has resulted in more sexual problems.........
NONSENSE...

maybe we just figured out that preachers' daughters were hot....
Derailing the thread here, but a quick observation. Isn't it perverse that every night on TV I can see a brutal murder followed by a grotesque autopsy. They might be burned to death or beheaded, etc. But, show a nipple on TV and it's pornography!!! Someone must go to jail and be punished for this. That seems very sick to me.
6547  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Elizabeth T. Ploshay for Bitcoin Foundation board on: September 12, 2013, 01:27:35 PM
I have heard talk of at least a public section of the forums.
[guessing] Some of the discussions are kept away from the public not because the public is not welcome, but to plan without tipping our hand to decision makers in the government and hostile industries. As banks, payment processors, and trigger happy regulators better understand bitcoin they are likely going to fight harder. We don't want them to have access to all our plans. [/guessing]
The forum over there is also dwarfed by bitcointalk. Like most in the foundation I spend more time here.

I would guess that "the government" and "hostile industries" can well afford the member fee if they care to watch the sausages being made.
That's a good point. And now we know they could wave the fee and just break in.  Embarrassed
6548  Other / Off-topic / Re: Can you find it? on: September 11, 2013, 07:56:22 PM
What? So it's basically like those stupid 'contests' where you do work for free and then only the possibility of a job? I can't believe even the government is pulling that kind of bullshit now.

lol, it does sound scammy. I gota say though. Such contests are how codebreakers are found. The CIA and many others do it also. Codebreaking is a special field in espionage. You can't make codebreakers you must go out and find them.

With all the people interested they should open slots for committees so some of the losing candidates can still get involved.
That's a good idea man. I would hope that some of the other candidates will remain involved. There are some good people with a lot to contribute. Even non candidates and bitcoiners outside of the foundation should have their ideas heard and have a role in steering the board.

it is a good idea but the one thing i fail to understand is the closed nature of their forum.

why would this be?

6551  Economy / Speculation / Re: What expected/specific 2013 events should the market be watching for? on: September 11, 2013, 03:23:14 PM
I like your list.  Smiley
I would also add: Adoption in the remittance market.

That's not really an event, but a progress over time...
I personally could imagine Western Union "adopting" bitcoins sometime in the not-so-far future being the single most important event regarding the remittance market. But I don't expect that to occur in 2013.
True. I was thinking of something like a rapid adoption of use. But, as you point out, not really an "event".

Lovely nice peaceful people.
lol, yep. It's a regular diplomats brunch here.
Oh well, haters gona hate. non-haters gona build the future.
The ignorant attacks over hamsters, Jews, etc. are very encouraging. Attacks like this are the final bastions of those with no ideas and not enough knowledge to participate in a real process. These sorts of things can be ignored because they represent nothing but an inability to understand the complexity of being a board member.

This is what I mean.  Nobody can explain why they support her.  They either repeat the Motherhood statements or divert attention to referencing the idiot posts.  The fact that people posted an offensive post doesn't say anything about why someone should or should not vote for her.  I don't think is especially bad or wrong and I don't "hate" her, I just don't see why she would be picked once you compare the qualifications and statements of all the candidates.  Since nobody can really articulate that it makes me suspicious given some the weird things that go on at that Foundation.
I can write something up later. But this website contains some of the reasons why I support her.

6556  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WTF WITH FREICON on: September 10, 2013, 08:21:49 PM
Do as you like, but I don't screw around with alt-coins. There are all sorts of crazy rules that come with them. Often rules that have not been thought through.
6557  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The problem with atheism. on: September 10, 2013, 08:05:15 PM
Yes and Atheism is also a religion. I quite sure some of you have noticed it already.  Grin
So atheism is a religion? A religion without a God or a supernatural force of any kind? That would mean it is not a religion. I don't go to an atheist church, and atheists are not looking for converts to keep our mega church in gold.
I have met a man in the Guatemalan jungles who fervently believed that the world rested on the back of a turtle. Yet, he laughed at city people for believing that God lived among the clouds. "You can't stand on a cloud", he explained. "They are just water and cannot support your weight". It was easy for him to see the impossibility of a God he did not believe in, but he was completely blind to his own superstitions. That is religion.

Semantics.

re·li·gion
n.
1.
a. Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.
b. A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship.
2. The life or condition of a person in a religious order.
3. A set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader.
4. A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion.

Atheism is not a perfect fit for the top definition, but it does fit (scientism -- deification of science and "rationality," a humorless kludge of rationalism and empiricism).
The bottom two are a better fit, with #4 being descriptive of the militant a[nti]theists in this thread.
I guess definition #4 can cover an atheist who is a zealot about it. Of course that would put many of us in the religion of bitcoinism, inshallah.

If the remittance market opens up to bitcoin then we are all going to be stinking rich, not just stinking.  Cheesy

It is amazing how many experts we have on what Elizabeth thinks. Especially impressive is how much they know about a person they have never met, or even heard of a few weeks ago.  Roll Eyes

Kinda like "find a Fed" at defcon or the blackhat conference. If you find one, you and the agent are given a t-shirt saying "I found a Fed" and "I am a Fed", respectively.
