Cheers for the warning, I'm due a password change anyway.
6566  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who uses "bits"? on: October 07, 2014, 12:56:29 PM
No one can mistake this number 1.12345678 BTC. It is as exact as needed, and if you want a buffer, go add the possible transaction fee. When I deal with people, I state all 8 decimal places, just so we have no misunderstanding, even if the least significant digit is zero, unless I am dealing with whole bitcoins.

I also do this to prevent the other party from misunderstanding, I don't think I've ever used "bits" or even satoshi when doing business. 1.12345678 is probably the easiest to follow and not much can go wrong as everyone is familar with it.
6567  Other / Off-topic / Re: TeamSpeak or Skype ? on: September 30, 2014, 12:59:06 PM
Teamspeak/Ventrilo are used for gaming more commonly, whilst Skype is used for Businesses originally and now general conversations. Although, Vent/TS are largely focused on gaming communities whilst Skype is not. Too different things in my opinion and can't be compared.

Mods take a lot of shit off people, you got to respect that. Mprep seems to be like a geniune guy and normally spot on about the decisions and I see these types of messages as he's doing his job right.

What are you typing into the field? Your username or email address? If you have asked for your username to be changed you will have to use your previous username and not the current display name.

Simply type in your email which is tied to the account if you have been trying to recover via username.

Otherwise: Read
6571  Other / Meta / Re: Normalize Trust display across subforums on: September 08, 2014, 01:56:19 PM
Trust should only be displayed when in marketplace or trading related sections. Otherwise, people might not take someone seriously because of their trust rating, when in fact their statement was 100% truthful or accurate. It happens because people are irrational. When in fact the majority of the cases I see is people get bombed by users on DefaultTrust just because they disagree with something. It's because of this I have no one on my trust list anymore.
6572  Other / Meta / Re: Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ on: August 29, 2014, 03:36:35 PM
PMs can't be edited and remain in the database as long as at least one party doesn't delete it. Since DefaultTrust isn't going to delete received PMs (theymos sayeth) and they can't be edited, that makes for a reasonably safe way to set your address in stone.

If a user hasn't sent it before and then their account is compromised and the hacker sends all the information to the DefaultTrust account, then it apears that the hacker is the owner of the account although that's wrong. I'm sure BadBear has mentioned before that it may not be accepted under certain circumstances. (may be wrong)

What I pointed out above is only one scenario, there are many which it could be abused some which I probably haven't even thought of. Also,  with people selling their accounts and sent their address to DefaultTrust prior to the deal and then once the money has been transfered and they try to reclaim their account by signing their address, then what would you do in this scenario? Who is the rightful owner? How would you even tell that this has occurred? If you even had a hint that this had happended you have to completely reject this as evidence.
6573  Other / Meta / Re: Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ on: August 29, 2014, 03:02:14 PM
I was under the impression that sending a message to DefaultTrust is simply a precaution and may or may not be accepted as evidence.
6574  Other / Meta / Re: Accuracy down to 98% on: August 28, 2014, 10:51:03 AM
if it's been moved to the correct section already and you've reported it as 'wrong forum' it's going to look like a bad report and will likely be marked as so. Simply stating 'wrong forum' is fine and will suffice 9/10, but if you're worried about getting a bad report I'd include the tiny bit of extra information just in case.

I did edit my post to continue further (I have a habit of doing that). I have been caught out a few times for simply stating wrong section but, I'm not really concerned about my percentage, doesn't really affect me much as long as the issue has been dealt with. People are too concerned about the report percentage, but that comes down to bragging rights and ego problems I suppose. It's been stated that each staff member is different and take their own intuitive when it comes to handling reports.

So, yes I agree it's better to include more information if you can. But, the majority of the cases don't really need much pointing out, unless you are concerned about losing percentage because it's been moved recently.
6575  Other / Meta / Re: Accuracy down to 98% on: August 28, 2014, 10:34:43 AM
You should try and list at least a little detail imo but the more info the better and lessens the chance of a bad report. Normally we can probably make it out fine, but sometimes people will just report the post without actually even stating why and there's been a few instances where I've been scratching my head as to why it was even reported in the first place.

It's seems a matter of perspective. I've spoken to other staff members privately and they have stated if the report was submitted for a obvious reason, then there's no real need to put anything in the field. although they did say it's easier for them. Really, there's no need to specify where the topic should be moved, if it's posted in the wrong section then that's exactly what we report. I do tend to specify where to move the thread if it's complicated or not easy to identify where it should go, but the majority of the time it's actually easy to identify by the title or even skimming over the post for a few seconds.

So my reports are a mixture of both, if they are more complicated I'll specify where to put them. To every thing else, ref spam etc. They are pretty easy and there's no need to go into detail with them. I've gone into a little more detail with duplicate threads etc actually linking to the dupe.

Quote from: hilariousandco
There's also the possibility that a mod will move the thread to the correct section before it has been officially 'handled' and if you just state 'wrong forum' or whatever it will look like a bad report to the other mod.
I've been caught out by this a few times.

My accuracy hasn't budged from 97% for nearly 500 reports now so it seems stuck to me as well. Has anyone else's gone up or down or just stayed the same?
I've been at 98% for around 2 months now. But, was at 99% for as long as I can remember before dropping recently.

6576  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin changing my ideology from socialism to libertarianism! What about you? on: August 27, 2014, 08:00:55 PM
I've always believed that socialism or libertarianism is the way to go. I believe both have great moral concepts and I would settle for any one of those over the current chaos we are experiencing. I wouldn't say that my views/beliefs have changed since using Bitcoin, but they certainly have evolved and are convincing me day by day that it would work if given the chance. I wouldn't say I prefer socialism to libertarianism or the other way around, because they both have things I agree with and some things which I believe there's a better solution for. However, I think I've always swayed towards libertarianism the most and normally talk about it more with some of my friends. I'm sure in the next few years my views and opinions will evolve that much more, but nothing dramatic and I'll probably be claiming libertarianism is the way to go. It's a complex system and isn't such a easy thing as saying which one is the best, because honestly? I don't know at the present.

Congrats on your embrace of libertarianism!
It really is for the greater good.  Cheesy
I like what you did there! Smiley

I can see why, and there are many types of socialism, if you study the origins of socialism and libertarianism you will learn they are closely related.

Anyway I don't think we should be absolutists about anything, these type of systems can co-exist, some are better for one thing, others are better for other things.
I think they are more closely related than people care to admit. They are extremely close to being the same thing with only a small margin which separates them.

Now that I stop and think about it I have changed from "favoring"(for lack of a better term), a more socialism type system  from more libertarian type system.  This hasn't been a recent change for me though and it didn't help instantly at all.  I think I'm still learning and transitioning everyday.  I've never really given much thought how much of a roll Bitcoin has played in the change over the years.
I think this thread actually made me realism how much I favor libertarianism over socialism, although I still believe they are both wonderful philosophies.

yea, bitcoin has had a big effect on my political views. i was raised in a republican mormon home, but as an adult quicly realized the whole system was jacked up... being here and reading various links and such over the last three years has really opened my eyes even more. i went from not caring to actively trying to change things.

course now it's more like "well little people can't really effect change much..." and i feel like i'm sitting on the sidelines watching the world crumble in ultra slow motion.
Being a Lord Of The Rings fan I've used the same argument when explaining to people who don't quite grasp the concept. I'm quite amused to see someone else also compared it to the whole point of the movie too.

6577  Other / Meta / Re: How to get the Admin BadBear to reply to PMs? on: August 26, 2014, 07:36:47 PM
bumping with patience.....still no reply.

Theymos is away at the moment, so I imagine BadBear is extremely busy. He's got to cover for Theymos and is also being bombarded with messages from other members. I couldn't imagine the amount of messages he receives in the space of a hour. Most of his messages probably aren't quick fixes either and requires researching and then finding a solution. If your message isn't a priority then he will probably dismiss it until more important issues have been dealt with, although I'm not 100% familiar how he handles things and I might be wrong.

BadBear has seen this thread though, so just remain patient. It's been suggested to contact a moderator if you haven't already if your issue could be solved by them.

Also, a quote from theymos about the PM feature:
The forum's PM system isn't perfect, so I occasionally miss/lose PMs, especially if the PM is about something more complicated than average and I put it on my to-do list (i.e. I keep the PM open in a tab and if my browser crashes I probably lose it). I received ~500 PMs in September, and I think I lost some of them. If you sent me a PM and I didn't respond after a week or so, send it again.

Should imagine, BadBear is in the same position as Theymos was back then.
6578  Other / Meta / Re: Been Pissing me off lately, anyone else? on: August 25, 2014, 05:36:30 PM
Well I mean like I've seen tons of posts before with sketchy links and it's like >.o come on. Then everyone else calls it spyware or something to steal your wallet.
If you don't report how can you complain about it? If you see any thing which is against the guidelines, report it and quit complaining. The thing is the moderators can't act on something if they don't know about it.

BiPolarBob GOT A 30 DAY BAN because he was giving away LTC in a "giveaway not allowed section" OK
Even, though "BiPolarBob" was doing a great thing, he still broke one of the rules which is quite clear and precise. Being the greatest user on the forum which has donated hundreds of dollars doesn't make the exempt from the rules. It's like saying someone donated millions to charity but, then stole from a old lady should not be put in prison. (Of course it could be anyone not just a old lady I did that because people react more severely too more vulnerable people for some silly reason)

Quote from: Jaaawsh
YOU DON'T FUCKING LET THERE BE GIVEAWAYS BUT THE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS SCAMMED DAILY ON HERE IS OKAY USERS NEVER GET BANNED FOR THAT!?
I fully support why the staff don't ban scammers, people need to stop relying on others and use your own initiative and intelligence.

Note: It's not that I'm against "BiPolarBob" he actually did a really nice thing for me and Arklan, but that doesn't change the fact a rule was broken.

2. My posts keep getting deleted because I bump a little too early, even though my post is all the way at the bottom of the page and it has been quite a while.
I'm sorry. Bumping multiple times within a 24 hours period is against the guidelines. No matter where your thread is, 1st page or the 21st. It doesn't matter.

6579  Economy / Services / Re: Bitcoin Wallet Password Recovery Without Needing Your Wallet.dat on: August 19, 2014, 02:04:49 PM
How much does this cost?

I've sent a message. Look in this thread abut price discussion, it varies per job.
