6561  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New price $6K for Jingtian 28nm 1T miner on: February 23, 2014, 07:19:37 PM
Skyfromwell,
Why not price is so we can profit with it? Look at antminer, selling out every batch. What's more profitable, selling 2000 units for $3k or a few hundred for 6k? Think about it!

I understand but profit margin is thin so I have to really think what is best for us and for miners. 3k is not going to cover for costs, we do consider something in $5.5K range.
If margin is thin, do a short run and just farm with them yourselves. Save your energy and money for the next project or opportunity.

RE https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=449464.0

I have no evidence to believe that that software is dangerous, but as its not open source we have zero idea. Can someone appropriately red it or try and get a warning there to prevent potential damage?

Its actively being bumped in custom hardware and is getting views.

Edit: Looks like it just got smited.
6563  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: power issues with Erupter cubes on: February 23, 2014, 06:20:46 PM
See my sig for cube help thread. But tldr, cubes often trigger 'overload' protection on higher end PSUs, preventing them from working. I can't use my 1500W beast on a cube for that exact reason, you'll just have to use something else. See the thread for PSU recommendations and links.

Non comprare un minatore, non potrà mai guadagnare più di quanto pagato per questo.

[Do not buy a miner, it will never earn you more than you paid for it.]

Added pretty colors to ratings and company names, excluded yellow because its unreadable. Added brown tier for BFL.

Factor of 10 out. We don't want 5% annualised ROI in the bitcoin world.

At this point, without any evidence about John's ID, it is very likely he was just a fictional character. His reputation solely came from his administrator/global moderator status, not from his established identity. So people trusted countless amount of funds to a person which could be just one more sock puppet among others. Keep in mind that Michael (a.k.a. Theymos) provided support to John as much he provided support to Tradefortress.
Nope, he is real. He's also a mermaid in his spare time.
6568  Other / Meta / Re: Questions to theymos about the $1,000,000 forum software project on: February 23, 2014, 01:14:48 PM
And come on guys, its very likely that payment will be made in stages with delivery - not 100% up front. No one really does that IRL.
6569  Other / Meta / Re: Why does the forum keep going offline? on: February 23, 2014, 01:09:53 PM
Maybe related, maybe not.... but on my phone it cycles between being unavailable for 20 seconds then online 20 seconds.

dogie... in case you add a link to a calculator i suggest this one: http://mining.thegenesisblock.com/
The future diff-development is calculated automatically from the past diff-rises. So its pretty noobfriendly and way more real than the calculators that dont take diff-increases into account and might mislead noobs.
Yeah I like them, but wasn't sure based on what difficulty rise it was auto doing it. I remember a while back it was still outputting very optimistic stuff.

I also think at least a note next to the bitmine that they have completed their asic A1 chip and trough site and Zefir diy community got samples and can buy chips. Marto technobit already delivered miners based on bitmine chip.
* read my prior post to see other comments. Misleading note about bitmine not honoring refunds when they have cpp, while you praise black arrow who does not issue refunds also and does not have even manufactured asic chip. Both company are delayed but bitmine has a working chip what can be bought, ba does not and maybe will in May.
Changelog 02/20/2014
  • Added explanation regarding chip integrators having lower ratings compared to chip creators.
  • Added explanation regarding the higher weighting of more recent problems/good work.

Company changes:
  • BitMine to be reviewed 1st March on release performance (with delay compensation).
  • AMT moved to chip integrators. Set C. Promoted to C+ on delivery of first orders, taken a hit due to delays and lack of communication.
  • VMC Set D. Promoted to C+ on testing publication, with no additional problems.

What we really need is : Dogie's Comprehensive Manufacturer Profitability Loss Guide

I've been thinking about it a lot and been watching some of the previous attempts, but its a hard and potentially misleading thing to do. There is no universally accepted difficulty prediction thread, so there would be a reasonable spread. And what exactly is the usefulness if its just going to show that no hardware will pay itself back? Can it do more damage than good if a product appears that it will make a profit and then is delayed 6 weeks?

Problems, problems.
6574  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Manufacturer Trustworthiness Guide on: February 22, 2014, 11:32:05 PM
I like this thread. thank you.
Being a newbie to mining, when I read the title of the thread manufacturers trustworthiness, I in no way expected there to be info regarding profitability of said equipment. The Title is clear, how trust worthy are the manufacturers ( do they actually deliver / on time) I think this thread covers that well.
If profitability is your main concern as a buyer / miner, you should really do some due dilligence and hit up some calculators as the profitability of mining directly correlates with the price of btc.
Anyone willing to drop money into more advanced asics (bigger $$) if of a reasonably sound mind can do that research on their own.
again good thread op.
This is what I was thinking, thanks for writing down your thoughts. No where have I mentioned anything about $$$ or projections or income or costs. (For now), all this is is historically and recently, has company x tried to swindle people, how much karma do they have?
6575  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Manufacturer Trustworthiness Guide on: February 22, 2014, 07:10:33 PM
I still think your excellent op needs more newby-proofing.

Sth along the line of big bold letters, more caveats, calculators,

links to warnings about the 99.99% likelihood of losing btc when buying from any asic mfg. without reselling on ebay. (bitmain was the 0.01% for some weeks)

As it stands many newbs will cursorily look at your work, buy the next ASICminer offerings and blame you, albeit wrongly, for losing their precious.
Ill think about it
6576  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Cube Setup on: February 22, 2014, 02:41:20 PM
I've got two troublesome blades that I think may be hopeless, but I figure it doesn't hurt to ask.

The first one hashes, but several of the chips register a clock of 999 while still showing O, but it cripples the cubes efficiency down into the high 50's and low 60's. In the first pic you can see some bad soldering in two places. Anyway to clean it out fairly easily?

The second one kills the whole cube regardless of the slot it is installed in.  In the second pic you can see how bad the pins look. There was a lot more (solder? flux? crap?) basically connecting the pins together that I tried cleaning up a bit, but it still looks bad and doesn't run.

Anyone have any suggestions?  Also, is there anywhere one could purchase replacement blades?

Thanks for reading.

I can't particularly see where the problems are, but don't plug the electrically dead board in, it can cause serious problems. Take both to a local electrical shop and see if they can find anything obvious they can fix (also bring a good board for comparison). If not, talk to your reseller and ask to replace those individual blades. I don't think you can purchase them separately otherwise.

Hi, still cannot make this *"''é&²àç@ cube to work  Cry

bought a corsair cx600, just received, still same, the psu runs, the cube fan runs but only the sb power led on  Cry

what can i do now?
Talk to your reseller about getting a replacement, nothing you can do [easily].
6578  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Cube Setup on: February 22, 2014, 02:38:55 PM
i have a question, so after hours of fiddling around i finally got one of my cubes to work, now under low clocks my efficiency is about 90% but when i switch to high clocks it drops to like 60% any ideas?

thanks
Either insufficient power or luck of the draw.

Which is best to put the adress
With stratum
Or without stratum at URL
With or it wont work
6580  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Blade Setup on: February 22, 2014, 02:37:04 PM
So I have 2 blades that I was reconfiguring. I changed there IPs to a different one. I usually only change the last number, like 192.168.1.25X. I've done this many times over and now they wont respond when I open them...

I also have 2 cubes running and both of them I am able to configure just fine. All I did was change 1 ip to 254 which is the default... and the other to 256 and now they are both unable to connect.
See my sig for link to the setup thread, and diagrams of the pins (make sure you're doing the right pins for V2s). Also remember to do it while they're running, those are the two most common mistakes.

If you still have no luck, post in the thread and we will sort you out.

This quote is from my thread I started about having problems resetting the IPs on my V2 blades.

Now, I've read your guide and it is how I initally set them up while they were working. I also have tried resetting them with the pins and while it was on. I used a piece of wire for that and it didn't do anything. They are still coming on and all the lights show them as OK. I cannot access the configuration menu now however.

I also have tried running them 1 at a time and still nothing is showing up when I type in the new IPs I have set for them. This all didn't start happening until I changed the IPs. I don't know if I did reset the pins wrong or what. I followed everything exactly as it showed it. My blades have been sitting here for 2 weeks now doing nothing... atleast my cubes work but I still need these blades functioning ASAP.
Check with your router that the address range can go that high, some only have a partial range as default. But almost certainly 256 was out of range.

Remember to only have one plugged in if they're both reset as they'll both try and get on .254.
