6581  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 NBA Season on: January 20, 2022, 05:51:54 AM
Watching the end of this Lakers game and it suddenly got ugly. No surprise that they blew the game with Howard on the bench again… It makes no sense…

One positive thing about the game was that LeBron got his 10,000th rebound. That makes him the only player in NBA history to have 30,000 points, 10,000 rebounds, and 9,000 assists. A pretty impressive feat. I think he’s likely to get to 10,000 assists before he’s done as well. Statistically the best to ever do it.
6582  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Altcoin Mining: you WON’T pay for that card (with assumptions) on: January 19, 2022, 11:44:41 PM
I’m not sure I agree with your entire premise. You seem to be saying that you won’t make money from GPU mining, but then only give examples proving that to be wrong and with an extremely short time frame. Then you pivot to saying that investing in crypto would give you a better return. Those are two pretty different statements. You also don’t figure in sale of the GPUs the way you are figuring in sale of the purchased currency.

I think what you mean to say is that if you purchase crypto when the price is low and sell when it’s high you’ll end up with more money then if you buy a GPU and mine during that period. I know which one looks more like gambling to me, but we are all free to have our opinions.

I got my notification and can't wait to try out one of these bad boys.  Great to know they're getting out the door.

Maybe a hair premature on my part.  Looks like while the label was printed, there is still yet to be a package sent to the shipper.  I'll update when I have the product in my hand, or maybe once the package is actually shipped.  Sorry if I got anyone's hopes up.  On the plus side, they seem to be shipping from nearby, so once the package is in route I'm sure it will be a quick process.  I'm guessing they're packaging and getting these units out the door as quickly as possible and perhaps are working through a giant stack of shipping labels.

What’s the worst that could happen, there are lots of idiots with more money than sense who pay six digit USD for art far lower standard than yourself.

That's me.  I'm idiots.   Cheesy
6585  Economy / Speculation / Re: [POLL] Will Bitcoin dip below $40K? on: January 19, 2022, 08:51:50 PM
Seems like the market is fighting to keep it's head above water.  The $40K line appears to be holding fairly well.  We even seem to be in a consolidation phase now, which in the past has meant that an upward move is in the cards soon.  I think every day we stay above $40K, the odds of it falling lower are reduced.  At least until the mtgox coins hit the market and/or the ETH 2.0 upgrade unleashes billions of dollars in staked ETH back onto the market.  I find it a little hard to believe those events won't cause a massive reduction in market price of the entire crypto market, but we'll see.  Maybe spot ETFs will be approved in the US around that time to help suck up the excess liquidity.
6586  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I keep getting calls telling me there are are few bitcoins blocked in my name. on: January 19, 2022, 08:44:33 PM
Hi Guys

A few years ago, I was defrauded by some company and they fooled me into investing money with their fake company.

I reported that to the police and to the trading organizations at that time.
Of course, I did not get any money back and the police told me that cannot do anything.

Now, I keep getting calls from people (fraudsters I am sure) telling me that I have a few bitcoins blocked in my name. One of them even sent me a screenshot (I am sure that is fake as well).
They want me to give them 5% so that they can transfer me the bitcoins (I learned the hard way how fraud works), and I am not sending any money to get any money.

My question is...

How, where, and is it possible to check if I really have any bitcoins blocked in my name? (If yes, then how)

Thanks
Andy

*** To any Fraudsters reading this, I am not going to give you any money so please don't try to fool me again. (Fool me once - shame on you, fool me twice - shame on me).

Seems simple to me.  Tell them to send you 95% and keep 5% for themselves...  This scam attempt doesn't even seem like they thought it out at all.  They're relying purely on the greed and stupidity of their victims.

I can't believe this even needs to be said (apparently), but nobody in the world is ever going to contact you and tell you that they'll send you more money back if you send them some money first.  It's shocking to me that this type of scam actually works on people.  Most internet goers are aware of the Nigerian Prince scam before they finish grade school.  The real talent of these scammers is in picking victims that aren't aware of this scam.  I'm guessing most of the people behind these scams would make amazing financial advisors if they were steered in the right direction.  Then conning people into giving you money with the expectation of getting more back is legit because the scheme is legal, even though 95% of people using them (which is a lot) would be better off just putting their money in to the S&P 500 and letting these "advisors" go find a real job where they actually provide value.
6587  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: It is possible to make a profit by trading on: January 19, 2022, 04:27:22 AM
There is one segment that always profits from day trading no matter what.  That's the exchanges that are traded on.  The traders largely lose money at astounding rates.  Especially the leveraged traders.  They might as well just be making donations to exchanges at this point, at least then they would limit the amounts to what they could afford to lose.

My take on it is if you want to make money from trading, make money off the traders.  There are plenty of exchanges and DeFi opportunities to get paid from providing liquidity to traders.  Either with lending your funds to the leveraged traders, or setting up trading pairs that earn you income as the value of the underlying currency moves up and down.

Everyone wants to be the guy that strikes gold, but there's plenty of opportunities for shovel salesmen.
6588  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 19, 2022, 04:19:28 AM
The news today of Intel getting into the mining chip game didn't seem to have an immediate impact on the market, but this is the sort of news that give other companies the warm and fuzzy feeling inside.  I could see other companies who have had "mining chips primarily sourced from China" on the CONS side of their presentation now have something to put on the PROS side.  A 200+ billion dollar company getting into Bitcoin mining is a pretty good signal that it's going to be big business for some time to come.  For years we've heard about how Bitcoin mining wasn't a big enough slice of pie for companies like Intel to care about.  Today, that is no longer true.  Absolutely amazing.  This has potential to be a price catalyst.
6589  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NFT Artist: I am looking for cooperation on a project on: January 19, 2022, 04:11:40 AM
I don't have telegram, but I am curious what you're looking for in a partner.  You seem to have a very unique angle with burning the original artwork.  I can't say I've seen that before.  I wonder if allowing the buyer of the NFT to have the choice of burning the NFT and getting the physical artwork or burning the physical artwork and keeping the NFT might be an interesting twist.

I see you're using an opensea contract.  It would be possible to do a custom contract and have a website with a minting dapp where users could pay to "mint" one of your paintings into an NFT.  Did you have any specific ideas for what you'd want a partner to provide, or were you thinking more along the lines of a promoter of your existing collection?
6590  Other / Meta / Re: Do we need a subforum dedicated to DeFi related topics? on: January 19, 2022, 03:57:40 AM
DeFi story will end up like ICO & tokens after big hype from 2017. mass creation of new ones where just where only every fiftieth is perhaps worthy of attention. in a year or two, we will have a new trend, called by some other name but the essence will be the same.
Announcements (Altcoins) > Tokens (Altcoins) child board is enough, just my opinion.

Some ICOs turned out to be pretty valuable.  Ethereum being one.  I think some of the DeFi rails will probably stick around.  PancakeSwap & Uniswap being likely candidates.  Most of the actual coins they trade are garbage though.  Coins promising tens of thousands of percent for staking but with no liquidity...  As more and more chains pop up, I think DeFi could end up being a useful part of the crypto infrastructure.  It's good tech.  If the market continues to fragment instead of consolidate, that is a real possibility.  Especially when you consider the metaverse and gaming could bring all sorts of very popular tokens to markets where the owners may not have access to a bank account.  Right now there's just not much of value there, so people are pump and dumping everything.
6591  Other / Off-topic / Re: Neuralink is ready this year. would it be great or would it be scary? on: January 19, 2022, 01:01:24 AM
Neuralink is going to do some amazing things for people.  I like that it isn't currently being planned for human use for anything other than restoring functionality to human beings who have lost things like their hearing or use of limbs from various causes.  If neuralink is able to start getting people out of wheelchairs by the thousands I think it will be pretty clear to those involved that they are doing something great.

If you think it is going to have you googling things in your head and playing video games with your mind, you'll likely be waiting a very long time.
6592  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: January 19, 2022, 12:38:08 AM
Tough loss on the Jazz they did great in the third quarter but the Lakers fought back in the fourth.

The story of the game was that dunk by Westbrook on Gobert.  If anyone didn't see that highlight, take a look.  There's mention of it being a candidate for dunk of the year.  Lakers fans have been waiting to see someone amazingly athletic from Westbrook since he came to Los Angeles, so it's nice that he gave them what they've been missing.  Maybe this will be seen as a turn the corner moment for the Lakers and they'll be able to start putting some winning streaks together.  Good they got this win without a couple of their legends also.

Very cool.  I was wondering how many years it would take for someone else to do an engraved product with vanity addresses.  Looks like the answer was 9.  Smiley

Kudos for creating this product.  I've very happy to see it.  I know a lot of work goes into producing such items and I think your price point is reflective of that.  I hope that as more items like this come to market, it highlights some of the OG products for the bargain they are.

Good luck with this!  Keep up the great work!  I look forward to seeing how buyers track the ROI over time and how their opinions of the product are affected as a result.
6594  Other / New forum software / Re: Checksum verification for quoted messages/posts on: January 18, 2022, 09:09:31 PM
I would beware of any user who thinks that verification of private messages is a bad idea...  Checksums aren't some crazy idea that takes a ton of resources if implemented properly.  A checksum of an entire message would also eliminate the possibility of anything being cherry-picked as if you understand how checksums for an entire message could work and require the entire message to be quoted in order for it to be validated.  Think of it like validation of a PGP signed message.  I would beware anyone who thinks this is a bad idea.

Perhaps it could also enable another feature of private communications, where a user could check a box to send a PM as private and therefore couldn't be verified as a legitimate quote publicly.  Users could even decide if they are willing to accept private communications or not.  Maybe these could even be features reserved for higher level members.

Since it's Martin Luther King Day:

"It is wrong, deadly wrong to deny any of your fellow Americans (citizens) the right to vote in this country"

"Greatest Recorded Speeches in American History (1933-2008)"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnVwvPpdFeY&ab_channel=TDC

MLK had a way with words...

Luckily, Joe Biden has his own way with words.  He actually thinks that George Floyd's death was more impactful than Martin Luther King Jr's.  Now we wait for some liberal to try and push a George Floyd national holiday down our throats.

https://www.newsweek.com/biden-faces-renewed-ridicule-after-comparing-mlks-assassination-george-floyds-death-1670142

Seriously, if you haven't seen this clip of Biden's latest foot in the mouth moment, you owe it to yourself.  Russia, North Korea, and soon others will be testing our testicular fortitude over the next couple of years as they see a chance to take advantage of America having a leader who no longer has the mental capacity to lead a country.
6596  Other / Politics & Society / [POLL] Have you ordered your free Covid tests yet? on: January 18, 2022, 08:55:27 PM
With the US Government handing out free covid tests like...they hand out free money, who here is going to be getting themselves some of these FREE, yes I'm told they're free, tests?  I know I love it when the government hands out free stuff that got created out of thin air without our tax dollars.  It's almost too good to be true.

I digress...  I ordered mine.  I figure if my taxes are paying for them I might as well get mine.  I'm planning on framing one and hanging it on my wall as a reminder of the foolishness we are partaking in.  Maybe someday these will be collector's items.  Now we sit back and watch all the people freak out over false positives.  The propaganda is about to hit new highs.

https://www.covidtests.gov/

Come one, come all.  Help waste tax dollars and spur government spending.  It's the American way!

Edit:  I don't mean to make light of a serious matter.  I understand that covid has effected us all in different ways and while it's effects on myself and those around me have been negative as a result of the government response and not the cause, that may not be the case for everyone.  I'm going to lock this topic now, because I don't really want to be the face of common sense in an insane environment.
6597  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin User Loses Record $1.1M on: January 18, 2022, 08:40:53 PM
Going in more detail, it seemed like it came from a live video in Youtube. I recently read this post in Reddit like few hours ago and a discussion in Reddit mentioned that the address of the scammer now contains a total of 87 BTC. Holy crap. Imagine holding that amount!
Here in my country, that certain amount is more than enough for retirement lol.

Source: The scammer who received the single largest payment of 26BTC has received a total of 87BTC.[Reddit Link]

Imagine having 26 BTC and thinking that someone out there will double it if you trust them with all of it.  That is a level of stupidity mixed with greed that you would think would be impossible to coexist.  I guess in this case that's true...

Greed is such a strong motivator for bad behavior.  I'm not sure who is worse in this scenario, the scammer, or the person willing to put so much money on the line for free money without a care in the world where it came from.  Such opportunities like this are almost exclusively illegal or immoral, so it's hard to feel too bad for someone.

Who knows though.  I've heard of people taking an Ambien and doing crazy things.  Maybe when things like this happen, prescription drugs are a potential cause?
6598  Other / Politics & Society / Re: When will the vaccination end? on: January 18, 2022, 08:35:56 PM
The vaccinations won't end until universal health care is forced on the population and everyone is on a vaccine schedule.  Similarly, the attack on small businesses and property owners won't stop until we're all receiving universal income and own nothing.  I'm told we'll be happy about it though...

The only thing you can do to stop it, is opt out.  Save money.  Say no to debt of any kind.  Limit your liabilities.  Live within your means and as self sufficient as possible (this means getting your own food, water, electricity).  Fight the urge to buy vacation homes and planes.  Instead invest for your future and try to stay healthy.  The government will be trying to force everyone to need them to survive.  The best way to fight it is to be able to survive on your own.
6599  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What will be the next big industry move? on: January 18, 2022, 08:29:32 PM
I've seen sites like NFTrade.com that offer trading of NFTs, where you can put your NFT on the trading block and receive or make offers for other NFTs with it.  I think the natural evolution of this idea will be to implement that sort of thing with gambling.  If you were able to find a partner with a similar valued NFT to gamble with, that might be interesting.  Imagine betting a Bored Ape against a Crypto Punk on a roll of the dice.  That would be some epic stakes...  I'm sure it's only a matter of time at this point...

I miss seeing the Stevewilldoit Roobet videos.  Those guys can party...  It was hilarious seeing them refer to themselves as Roo Team Six in the peak of the Roobet Lambo giveaways.  Any plans to bring back that style of advertising?  I'm sure it must have cost more than a small fortune to make happen, and I'm always surprised we don't see more of that advertising campaign spill over onto these forums.  I think we'd all love to see 69 and Stevewilldoit participating on bitcointalk with some sort of giveaway or video.  Smiley
