663  Economy / Speculation / Re: so... how long till we pass the old high of 32? on: February 11, 2013, 09:29:22 AM

I hope he sold them. The possibility of those thieves and scammers retaining significant bitcoin holdings down the road bothers me.

They own about 18-20% of all the bitcoins.

Where do you get 18-20%? I calculate ~535,000 stolen/scammed coins (from this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=83794.0 ), which is 2.54% of the ultimate 21,000,000 coin supply (about 5% of the current supply).

How do we know most weren't sold or spent?
664  Economy / Speculation / Re: [poll]greater significance.. breaking old high or reaching silver parity? on: February 11, 2013, 09:18:37 AM
And that will just attract more investors.... just the sheer volume. We might be seeing thousands of people investing 50k at a time or something simply because the market is starting to handle that kind of wealth.

But don't worry, such inflow of capital into some "play money" will be noticed by other parties such as govt, so the bubble will be quickly deflated. And that should start another, steadier and healthier growth of bitcoin in the underground mode.

Yeah they'll start a war on bitcoin like the war on drugs. That's working out, right?

Sure. Demand is high and so are prices.

necro.

Did anyone archive rawdawg's videos? It would be real shame for them to be lost forever.
667  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Bitcoin dies? on: February 10, 2013, 09:44:09 PM
The fact that US government could crush bitcoin in no time and the fact that they did not do it despite the fact that it clearly made it onto just about every agency's agenda is proof enough for me that Bitcoin already has the blessing of the US government.

(If you doubt that Bitcoin can still be destroyed, please put into relation the $250,000 economy to the $50,000,000,000 printed every month and what a tiny fraction it would take to pay 1000 smart guys to hack every garage shop bitcoin business, buy 20PH/s ASICS, launch child porn portals operating with bitcoin, etc. The window to shut Bitcoin down will not close until the Bitcoin market value is some orders of magnitude higher.)

What about basic human character flaws such as arrogance, complacency, incompetence, compartmentalization, and a little sprinkle of corruption?

Many government agencies were responsible for the failures on 9/11, despite many warnings. Bitcoin must seem much less important than terrorism to the common man.

IE. 'We can crush bitcoin any time we like'. "Maybe next term'.
668  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin's first major deflation event, and its consequences on: February 10, 2013, 07:58:41 AM
I don't believe anyone will horde to the point they'll perish.  Eventually, you'll come up with a nice sum of coin and will want to put it to use; after all, why have wealth if it goes unused?

+1000.

Howard Hughes type scrooges are rare in this world because most people just want to have nice things. Hoarding does not go on forever because people know they'll get old and die.

As for failing to spend because price is rising, I don't find that to be an issue.  In fact, I spend more after a price rise, even if I expect it to continue.

Same goes for me.

671  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you really belive that you won't be able to buy at 20$ again? on: February 08, 2013, 12:24:16 AM

I think there are many such true belivers of BTC here, they even believe the BTC is going to take over the real world's economy

Not hard to understand, given that the 'real world's economy' consists (literally) of certain parties with the right to wish money into existence with no limits.

snus - but i heard some countries wont let it thru
i like the black salami, no idea whats the real name, is it really made of elk? i dont think so

Yeah, I'm probably not gonna send snus because it would take time for me to check if the destination country allows it or not and I don't want to get in trouble because of it Tongue.

I've never heard about black salami though, but I could look into it (Edit: Oh my, don't google this o.O)

TOO LATE. i already did...then huddled in the corner for 3 hours.  Lips sealed Lips sealed Lips sealed
677  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTB] Android phone for GPS use on: January 30, 2013, 04:13:12 PM
Will you take $60 for the X8?

I don't want to spend a lot. Its for a friend who wants GPS app on a phone rather than a dedicated GPS.

678  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTB] Android phone for GPS use on: January 30, 2013, 05:41:17 AM
That was the plan, to go with 3rd party app. Mainly it will be for off-road mapping. I wasn't planning to use this phone to make calls or send texts, so GPS has to work without getting any data.

Needs to be relatively quick with a decent processor in it, good size screen, and enough memory for all the GPS maps I'll need. 8-16 GB should do it. Or a micro-SD card slot.

Carrier doesn't matter. Especially if I can unlock it.
679  Other / Meta / Re: Why are Bitcointalk forum members so stupid? on: January 29, 2013, 08:43:30 PM
So pessimistic. There's many people of above-average intelligence frequenting the site.

They just don't post as much.
680  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTB] Android phone for GPS use on: January 29, 2013, 01:19:44 AM
I'm looking an affordable android phone that supports Android Jelly Bean, has Cortex processor and at least a 3.5" screen. A-GPS sensor and wif is a must.
