6681  Other / Meta / Re: Removing legacy scammer tags on: May 11, 2014, 01:32:41 AM
I don't quite understand why these need to be removed. I think having those and the trust system would work fine together, the trust system can be used like normal but, the scammer tags are issued when it has been confirmed that the person scammed. What we are effectively doing is removing a layer of protection.

Obviously, you justified giving them the tag in the first place so I don't know why you would want to remove it now. Any reasons? Or would you just prefer to use the trust system which isn't moderate unlike the scammer tags.
6682  Other / Meta / Re: Solution to Madness - Ghost Protocol on: May 05, 2014, 09:46:35 PM
Signature advertisers just need to be restricted on the terms they provide, the reason for all this spam posting is purely to boost their post counts because of the minimum requirements these people have, if you forced them to pay on a time basis rather than post count it would force them to either leave or adapt.

I don't really see a way to do this effectively though, not really any way to force them to do anything. We can ban them and they'll just add a link to the sigs they're already buying to an offsite offer.

I'm also pretty sure Ritz, Stunna, and the rest don't give one hoot about people who get banned over this, because banned users still have the signature, and it's also retroactive, so they are getting exposure they don't even have to pay for. Really it's a bonus for them.

One solution would be to remove post count all together. Then it's up to Stunna and others if they want to pay per activity. It would be the best option and best decision we can make. It won't reduce all spam. However, it will reduce a large amount of it and bring the noise to signal ratio back down.

Something needs to change this is becoming unbearable and I know the staff are doing what they can, but it's out of their control. As Bitcoin becomes even more popular there is going to be a lot of new users who are looking to make small amounts of money and the first place they will go is to the signature program.

Or just ban it all together. The individual spamming would get banned, so in theory the person who is paying and encouraging it should have their 'advertisements' banned.

(I believe Badbear has already suggested this solution)
6683  Economy / Digital goods / Re: Would anyone like to buy steam gift cards? Any MP or Cryptsy Coins Accepted :) on: May 05, 2014, 04:06:50 PM
There are a few people you can approach for escrow, check the services section. There are a few people who are deemed trustworthy however, always do research into the user who is offering such services.

As to the suggestion of the escrow holder redeeming the code on a separate account isn't the best way to look at it as people want games on their existing account and not a new separate one. Unless of course they are new to steam and want a gift code to get them started. Sadly, you just have to trust the person you are selling too in this case because you or the buyer can't prove that the code was legit and whether it was redeemed or not. (I don't if you contact steam they have that sort of information and if they do would they give it out)
6684  Other / New forum software / Re: Do not disturb mode on: April 17, 2014, 10:02:10 AM
It's something which would indeed be useful for the moderators of the forum I'm sure. I think another way instead of out right rejecting the message would be to allow the person to send the message, but the receipt doesn't receive a notification when on disturb mode. Also, you could have a auto reply option which would send a message back stating that you are "Do not disturb" and may not be able to respond immediately.

6685  Other / New forum software / Re: Avatars, obvs on: April 17, 2014, 09:55:25 AM
Avatars shouldn't even be a priority, avatars are not what makes a forum good or better yet secure. We need to focus on other issues like security, ease of access and organisation of the forum. I don't think gifs should be allowed as that would become annoying very quickly just as images in signatures shouldn't be allowed.
6686  Other / Meta / Re: I WANT TROLL-POST BUTTON NOW!!!! on: April 03, 2014, 06:22:31 PM
We don't need any like/dislike, thumbs up/down buttons it would unnecessary. If you think a thread/post is violating any rules of the forum then report it to the moderators. Otherwise, just because you don't like a post doesn't mean you have to downgrade it, because no matter if you agree with it or not some people have different views and opinions to you.

If you believe someone is trolling, going off topic or spamming too much then contact a moderator and see what they think about the individual, however if they do these mentioned above then the moderators probably already know about the offenders and are keeping a close eye on then or have warned them already.

A lot of threads are disliked in this community and that isn't because they are annoying, but they point out the truth and prove a lot of people wrong, no one likes to hear that they are wrong. So, having a dislike button doesn't help, it doesn't matter if the majority of the people disliked one thread because the minority might find it useful to them and take the information and learn from it. Like I said there's a lot of controversial threads in the community but, I think that's a good thing it encourages intelligent and resourceful debates.

Why would you want to be able to dislike a thread? You or the community doesn't benefit, however the original poster on the other hand has just got down graded on something which he thought was constructive and useful.

I've contacted Arklan, I'm not pleased with the news I have received when the payment was suppose to be fulfilled, however I know things can happen and I've approached Arklan with a proposal which I think may help him with the payments, that is instead of paying in full in one payment we have multiple payments each month which consist  smaller amounts.

I'm disappointed that I wasn't informed of this news earlier.

Update: We have come up with a deal and Arklan honored the new deal by sending 0.2 this month. I'm expecting to receive 0.2 next month.

Not that it's my business but why don't you check his online shop and try to reach a deal with him that way for a small amount of BTC

He has pretty interesting things there!

Thank you for the suggestion, I would if I needed anything like that, but sadly at the moment I don't need any models of anything.
6688  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The trust issue on: April 01, 2014, 08:22:06 PM
I only trust companies I have experience in dealing with, if they are transparent then all the better, however like many reviewer or a 'trust agency' they can be bought. And, to be honest I like to question what makes that reviewer a expert. It's always nice to have reviews to look at and to see past deals with previous customers but, that shouldn't affect anybodies judgement on that particular company.

To be honest, I wouldn't use this 'trust agency' because it may taint my view on that particular company.  I'm sure the majority would love to have a look at the different evaluations of organisations and companies, but I being myself wouldn't trust the judgement of another person, because like I previously stated people can be bought to make a company look good and I think it's just another thing for businesses to manipulate. Other businesses may take advantage of this to beat their competitors.

Always nice to see things like this so the customers do have something to look at and consider, I guess it's their decision whether or not they use your review in their decision making process. If sufficient evidence is supplied to outline those companies which are breaking any laws, rules or terms then I would be interested as long as their source is legitimate and is public information that any body and everybody can access.

6690  Other / Meta / Re: We do need more moderator on Chinese board on: April 01, 2014, 08:37:27 AM
Moderators don't normally get involved with scam threads, they leave the community to judge for themselves otherwise if they did get involved it would cause too many problems and they would be getting criticized left, right and center. I'm guessing there's a lot of spam occurring which of course needs to be addressed.
6691  Economy / Auctions / Re: Is bitcointalk ready yet for another attempt at a property auction? on: March 31, 2014, 04:45:53 PM
I'm sure there will be a few people interested in it and will take it seriously, others will probably be themselves and try to ruin it. You could have a discussion thread like you had before, and try not to answer anyone who is trying to derail the auction itself. Although, as you are looking to sell with Bitcoin I would have people who have concerns to ask questions privately or within the discussion thread outside the auction thread. Ideally you would want the auction thread just to have bids and the discussion thread to have everything else related to the property, therefore the auction thread doesn't get messy and you people who are interested will think it's unprofessional and messy.

6692  Economy / Lending / Re: Locked keys in car, between jobs, need 1 Btc fast, pay 10% interest. on: March 31, 2014, 04:40:35 PM
I look forward to hearing off Arklan and if he has everything and is ready to send what I'm owed, I have no doubts he has the required amount.

Edit: Public note: I would like to have the amount owed sent to the original address which the borrowed Bitcoin was sent from.

I'll update this post instead of posting a new one if the loaned Bitcoin was returned or not. I'll also provide Arklan with the deserved trust rating after the time is up or the Bitcoin has been returned, with interest included. If Arklan wants to contact me about any problems he may be having returning it in time and whether or not that information will be publicly stated. I will keep everyone updated when I find out myself.
6693  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone used Bitcoin to purchase Real Estate? on: March 31, 2014, 01:16:05 PM
As long as the right precautions and it's handled in the right way by both parties there is nothing to worry about, many people have done it publicly and I'm pretty sure a lot of people would of done it privately. Although, selling real estates is difficult with Bitcoin because people expect to pay less because of the potential Bitcoin has to double, triple or more in the future. If you can work out a deal and you understand the problems which you could face then it's a good idea to expand your business into the Bitcoin world, however if you want a sucessful business you might want to be as transparent as possible before people start asking questions.
6694  Other / Meta / Re: Should newbies be restricted again? on: March 07, 2014, 12:17:31 AM
Where are you seeing mass newbie posts? They mostly stay in the beginners section from what I've seen.

I have seen & reported a lot since the newbie restrictions have been lifted and I'm hoping Theymos realizes that the 'Freeing of the Newbies' was a big mistake and solves this problem soon, I agree that the Newbie section didn't prevent spam but it did prevent the spamming of boards which I actually read to gather information and join in on conversations. Lately that has been impossible because of the noise to signal ratio.

I'm pretty sure some of the staff members have the same opinion of many of us and hopes a decision is made soon, at least they have figured a way to reduce the spam for the signature payouts.
6695  Other / Meta / Re: Account Rename on: March 07, 2014, 12:07:10 AM
Only donators & staff members can change their name, you would need to donate. If it's because of a security concern or something similar you could try contacting theymos but don't expect a reply as he's busy and things like this isn't a priority. You are better off keeping your current name rather than donating.
6696  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Calling out the Bitcoin Foundation Scam. on: March 03, 2014, 02:47:49 PM
Finally people have realized that they are nothing more than a scam, I have never supported anything which the foundation has done even though they have claimed many times that they represent the Bitcoin community. I can't believe so many 'respected' people actually supported them and even defended them on occasions where they have been call out to be a scam with quality evidence.

We don't need a foundation we don't need any one to represent the Bitcoin community or Bitcoin itself.
6697  Other / Meta / Re: Why are the Mtgox threads getting moved so soon ? on: February 27, 2014, 10:59:40 AM
The threads about mt gox in Bitcoin discussion? Mt Gox is a service, any discussion about the service itself needs to go to service discussion. So whatever you think is suspicious about that I would love to hear about it, oh that's right aren't you that guy that posts everything in the wrong sections?

Nevermind, I thought at first this was a serious thread yet looking at your posts you think that everyone is out to get you.
6698  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal: Disallow Ads in Signatures on: February 25, 2014, 06:02:29 PM
I agree it's getting rather annoying, even if they aren't banned all together it's very easy to put limitations on signatures I think that signatures shouldn't be bright colors or anything above 14pt. Obviously, this is my opinion but, I think they are good limitations which would keep the advertisers happy and the business which is using people to advertise. Though, I hope they do get banned from advertising.

I have participated in a ad campaign a few times, however I had to reconsider advertising for a business which promotes spam and useless posts, especially with one of the businesses offering double the amount of posts for double the money now. I think something needs to be done otherwise, we are going to continue to see increase of spam.  I have added my first person to my ignore list  and I think he'll be on a lot of peoples ignore list as he is probably the most famous spammer on the forum right now. Most of his posts are useless and have repeated what someone has already said and he continues to do so every day. I always see his username posted in one section where he has replied to 5 or more topics where he didn't need to contribute to but, felt the need to earn a little extra. There was discussion a few months ago that his type of spam is acceptable and the staff members talked and said that it is only just acceptable.

I'm going to be adding a few more people to the ignore list too soon which I hate doing too much because I can't read half the topics because no doubt that the people I ignore nearly post in every single topic there is on this forum.

I think it's a great idea, paid signatures add nothing to the site and only encourage useless posts.  There are way too many people who post in every topic because it gets their post count up, the posts look useful but overall it really just adds to the noise.

Good luck getting glorious leader to make a change!

 Grin

Edit: Maybe, I should inform people running the campaigns like Stunna about the people who are spamming useless posts or generally annoying replies and maybe he will remove them from the campaign.

EDIT: skip 10 min in to see protesters being picked off

Very sad to see that happening, I've just looked at some of the other videos which liveleak has and have found some that might be worth watching to anyone who wants to know the kind of things that are going on out there:

Warning, the content is for over 18 only. (Contains upsetting and graphical content)

The videos I have watched shows the pride in which the people have and them helping complete strangers when they need it most, I have discussed this with many people and there are mixed feelings from many people, some believe that this indeed is not how the people should of reacted, yet some believe this was going to happen and had to happen and is going to happen in a lot of other places soon. I think that I would have to agree that it is likely going to happen in more places as this certain event shows that the people do have power and how corrupt the government is being.
Even though the leader has been voted out by his parliament his arch enemy released from prison and can go for presidency in the new election the current president (the one that has been voted out by his own people & parliament) is refusing to resign and tried to flee to Russia, now the parliament has decided that he can't use any public transportation or be allowed to leave the country.

I would like to hear some more opinions from others on the recent news that has been broadcast.

6700  Other / Meta / Re: End of newbie restrictions; ban changes on: February 22, 2014, 06:04:49 PM
Theymos, it seems that the community want's the Newbie section back, since it has been lifted we have seen increased spam, off topic posts and threads being put in the wrong section constantly. Although, we can't eliminate it completely with the Newbie section it does stop bots registering and the people who just want to ask one time questions and don't bother reading up on the moderation policy and just posts any where to get their answer answered. I've seen a few threads in the wrong section and when confronted by others asking why they put that in the section they did they responded: "It's the most active board".

In fact most boards are now littered with "This thread has been moved", legitimate posts are now getting drowned out because of this and the general spam on the boards. Yes spam did occur in the Newbie section but at least we could control it in one area rather than having it spread out in multiple areas of the forum.

You did say you were going to test if this would work, well it didn't and it's time to bring it back before the people start a revolution.
