Can anyone please tell me for 5 or 10 of the units would a powered usb hub be ok to power them and what specs would it
Depends on how hard you want to run them.  At its slowest (presuming it is the slowest), it'll work off of a standard 500mA port.  Fastest I've run it (16.5Gh/s), it needed just shy of 1.3A.  10 units at 1.3A and you're looking at a 15A-20A hub.. not exactly something you'll find at your local Currys.
Unless you want to put something together yourself / wait for sidehack's hub work, I've seen some recommendations for the Dipo 19-port 20A hubs.  iirc they do have individual limiting fuses so you might have to split the load across more than one port.. somebody who's used/has one can probably clarify, or ask the user 'klintay', he used to sell them over on eyeboot.com
He's still selling a 10-port, 2A/port, 10A total one; http://www.eyeboot.com/10-port-usb-hub

heh no need to overclock them....according to www.tradeblock.com at current 288 usd btc price I will make (wait for it) $5.00 usd for the YEAR (yeah baby $5 bill baby)
if I use ONE of my TWO sticks at 8gb and it cost me nothing and the unit had free electric with 0% pool fee to boot

whoo who.... Smiley

so the need to OVERCLOCK THEM is probably moot ...just saying Smiley

6722  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What will happen to bitcoin in our wallet when we die on: July 25, 2015, 10:22:01 AM
If we are having bank account with our name on that, and suddenly we die, what happens to our bank account then? Here's a guide to help you figure out where the money from a bank account goes after death so that you can make an informed decision about what you want to do in http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mybanktracker/what-happens-to-your-bank_b_4860213.html

And then, what will happen to our bitcoin when we die?

All my btc and ltc is in paper wallets and in a safety deposit box at my local bank. (Yeah I'm a bag holder)

My brother who lives locally is also on the card to open the safety deposit box should
I get hit by a truck or some such. Also I keep a book of all my passwords etc in there and my house purchase info etc and other important
docs in case my house burns down when away or some such.

Now that I've done all this what I suspect will happen in 30 years or so....is this:

I"ll be sitting in the old folks assisted living place by then......I will be informed that my bank was robbed and the safety deposit boxes were ransacked..and I will be like

'crap......millions come and millions go'.... Smiley

(its how my life rolls don't ya know) Smiley

anyway if the above happens or a meteorite takes out the bank it will just go to show the "asic miner gods" always hated me Smiley I also have the works sealed in a water proof pouch
in case the bank has fire issues or some such (sprinklers) Smiley Hopefully this should be paranoid enough..and yes these are my ONLY copies of the paper wallets nicely sealed etc

but again if the above paranoia is not enough well to heck with it .......fate just hates me at that point ....and I'll have proof Smiley

around the 12.5 BTC  block reward switch

It imho is a no brainer that WHEN/IF KNC gets its 16nm farm going we are all gonna hear about it pronto! The fact no such hype by their endless self promotion seems
to me to say ..they are not on the pipeline of even being set up yet *just saying imho*....if they we're deploying and putting stuff up I'm sure they'd be touting such
with pics etc just to keep their IPO money folk happy on showing (finally) progress ..but again this is just imho.

but yeah they miss our deadlines on stuff it is only fair the shoe is on the other foot and they miss deadlines when they are the only ones getting the chips out the door
in mass don't ya know ..only fair

whatever evil empire that they are they likely will announce and turn the switch on by the weekend or some such .....they do have the evil empire thing down pat I
must admit.....the sith lords of asic mnfg's

whatever it probably will be soon .....as all asic makers like to say

6724  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF100-the first 28nm Dual-Mode Miner gets into mass production on: July 25, 2015, 03:21:11 AM
I sure hope that these Sfard units (or something based on their chips) make some ROI sense in the near future. But the current price is nuts, even if the SF100 wasn't "sold out".

Like many of you, I've got that must-have-new-hardware itchy feeling. Rather than waste time or money on Sfards, I ordered a pair of Sidehack sticks. I'm hoping that will hold me over Wink

I don't care if the sticks ever ROI. They're more of a fun toy than anything else.

Also I want Sidehack to be successful so that he can start making the kind of home mining hardware that I'm really interested in.

I'm with you on this I also got two of his units...I mean at 25 bucks each and 6 bucks shipping (same shipping price for 2 units) wtf just for the balls of making
them I to don't care if i ever ROI ..now if i can just figure out how to run these along with my also somewhat redundant bitcoin and litecoin nodes I want to
out up I MAY be inoculated from further asic home purchases Smiley (just look at the blinky lights Searing...all is fine ...it is 2017 you MUST turn the knc Titans
off now ..you can do it!) ...got to plan for going cold turkey somehow Smiley

should start a chapter of SADD (sorry asic dependent delusion) but I think the above will help ...anything with shiny LCD's still on a blockchain and I'm easily distracted Smiley

but back to the topic IT WOULD BE NICE IF SFARDS WOULD MAKE A REASONABLY PRICED HOME MINER in some manner or at least SEND Sidehack
some specs for him to do so ...the PR of just sending such to Sidehack would be epic imho ......just saying.....if anyone from SFARDS is reading this

(they DID send out some test chips so this can't be too far off the realm of possibility right?)

6725  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin is officially dead on: July 24, 2015, 11:21:20 AM
time to buy some LTC!

w8 little more think that price will drop down a bit and then it will go up again

We are waiting for the price of $ 2, and start buying. Cheesy

3$ will be more then 2$ but i may be wrong also it may not fall just go up slowly
u

$4.13 usd to ltc .... I just looked....would be nice if it would be the silver to bitcoin's gold as the analogy goes.........say before halving peaks at 6 or 7 say usd and dumps back down to 4 bucks which imho after halving seems a fair price if it really does have a use as an alternative to bitcoin (ie silver analogy) ......then again I am now holding 3063 LTC as we speak and mining 50 every 3 days (soon to be 50 from the pool every 6 days)

so could be the dreams of the 'deluded' don't ya know Smiley

but LTC as an alternative that was more or less as a % of bitcoin's worth as such as bitcoin rises in % would not be altogether a bad thing imho again the silver to gold
linkage or some sort analogy

anyway so the 'thoughts' go of those who are (or so far) hoarding LTC ..just well....because (my only lame excuse right now as we speak) Smiley

6726  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [SIDEHACK STICK] Official sales thread for everywhere not already covered on: July 22, 2015, 04:38:34 AM
ordered 2 usb sticks...thanks for the service..they may never ROI but will keep me 'innoculated' against SAW (sudden asic withdrawl) when I
have to shut the last of my home miners off (also got a bitseed node v2 ..just got to have SOMETHING running in the bsmt even if impractical)

well at least this purchase has kept me off the REALLY HIGH PRICED pre-order stick I was on in 2013 and 2014

(hey I will take what progress I can get on my home asic miner addiction and subsequent withdrawal treatment) Smiley

anyway we appreciate the items (silly ROI that it may be) Smiley

6727  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Citibank set to destroy Bitcoin with Citicoin on: July 21, 2015, 10:53:28 AM
can't happen..won't happen.

bitcoin is bigger than citibank

the FUD will be epic..if this were to happen.......a blanket of slander/misrepresentation/etc on Bitcoin and its past etc etc
and much on trust us ...we're bankers lol  use citicoin we can 'manage' crypto for you Smiley

This whole thing reminds me of AOL back in the early days of the Internet..is virtual currency gonna be 'managed' like AOL
wanted (metered by your use) or open INTERNET as it is now kinda situation

so will crypto be closed and run by the previous banks/gov't's/elite? or will crypto be open source and 'unmanageable"?

imho it will be open and unmanageable but there will be push back by the powers that be imho sometime here in the next couple years

6728  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: July 21, 2015, 07:47:08 AM

It should go down farther into county within state if you want accurate.  A state just is a huge thing to put together.

Most likely there are multiple energy companies, big cities with high bills, etc.   Just not one size fits all.

Let's put things in perspective - if the county I lived in were a state there would be 9 states smaller than it.  I live in the largest county in the country.  County level isn't even adequate.  Smiley

County at lease is much closer then state.  It is not perfect I agree it has faults.

But there is not really a perfect way to look at power unless you go down to city level.   At least around where I am I have 0 choice there is 1 electricity company... so they are who I go with.

ditto (sigh) 12c kwh is as good as I can get

6729  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: July 20, 2015, 08:42:19 AM

Got the following in the Email on the class action against KNC

  http://kncclassaction.com/?wysija-page=1&controller=email&action=view&email_id=17&wysijap=subscriptions&user_id=219

They have extended the deadline to file..clarified some stuff.....still imho looks like a coin toss on if you can get your $$$ back or not *my view only*

I'm still confused thou...seems from the above the total fees paid will be the 15% fee ONLY ie 1,519.00 usd (if I remember correctly that was the amount)
this does not include appeals by knc or if knc wins.

Also the clarify  ..you'd be liable for a further (supposedly)
say 2,000 usd on a complete loss (again according to their scenario in the above link) you'd be looking at with the fee (1,519) something like 3.5k to say
(speculating here) say 4K if KNC takes the day in court...correct me if that seems ....NOT  to be a 'ballpark' on complete damages if KNC wins it all.

To further complicate the above each individual case stands it seems on its own merits...ie imho I see Neptune owners having a much better case (heck knc used
their pre-order equipment to build their data hall first as an example) then say Titan owners which does not have anything so frigging obvious again imho

anyway look it over decide what you think ..I myself am UNLIKELY to pursue this ...it still seems too vague ..esp the 'if knc appeals' extra $$$ in the kitty from
what I can read (you know knc is gonna appeal right?)..anyway with my 2nd titan at the right price I'm out and in the black ..but to be truthful if I had a Neptune
I probably would be looking seriously at this ..in again imho I think folk who got a Neptune have a strong case ..even on the individual case by case basis.

anyway link above is there for all to look over and ponder

feel free to correct me if my opinions above are 'incorrect' for those with better judgment on this kinda thing...just going by what I think from reading it over.
..I have no expertise on any of this ..again the above is all just my view

hope it helps someone and if you decide to act on this the best of luck Smiley

I am adding another 20Th to my home mine over this next week. I will take some pics when done.

what kinda elec are you paying etc etc (just can't see how you can profit on such with todays btc machines) not a slam just saying

Mining is always profitable or no one would do it. You may have to put some effort into, move to another city, make improvement's to your house, etc but its profitable.

Pretty much all the midwest is cheap electric, I am paying 7 cents summer rate and 6 winter, this seems definitely within the good for home mining price.

Yup most of the US is profitable to mine, either on residential or commercial.

If you take about 4.5 cents off these rates that about what the realistic low price you can get in those states.
http://www.eia.gov/electricity/monthly/epm_table_grapher.cfm?t=epmt_5_6_a

if you are a newbie..it pays to do the math on your electric bill ..on my electric bill (xcel energy) it proudly claims  8.6c kwh ..when you add state tax fees and the rest of
the odds and ends the real price is 12c kwh...... thus is the rub.....looks good on paper but be sure to figure out what your real bill is by taking all your kwh and divide
by your bill to get the REAL price per kwh...also sometimes in the Summer in some places the rates GO UP per kwh ...so also be aware of that

Just saying from what I understand the typical rate in the USA is 15c kwh or so I was told (with fees/taxes etc as above)

anyway in my case 'home mining' is dead in Minnesota at 12c kwh rate imho.....sigh....after I run these Titan(s) to doorstops that will pretty much be it....

Also that this is the 'pictures thread" here is link to my miner pics on Imgur again if anyone is interested.....(to please the omniscient op's on this picture thread) Smiley

http://lostgonzo.imgur.com/

I'm in Scott County Minnesota (Minnesota Valley Electric MVEC) using their EnergyWise program June-August I pay 7c kwh with tax, last winter I was paying 4.6c kwh straight....(no taxes on home heating) and they rarely ever turn it off Tongue  17mwh is still a heck of a bill at the end of the month though LoL

http://www.mvec.net/residential/energy-wise/

http://www.xcelenergy.com/Energy_Solutions/Residential_Solutions/Rate_Programs/Time_of_Day_Plan

Use automatic Transfer Switches (APC Redundant Switch) if you want to keep your miners running during peak demand

don't have enough juice (need to use 3k kwh to qualify) for any more the 12c kwh with xcel I'm in BE county in Minnesota

just saying when I figure it all out taxes and the works vs kwh's used...it is almost exactly 12c kwh here

I assume you have a bigger rig setup then 2 titans and a small house w/o central air?

anyway good for you Smiley
6731  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin is officially dead on: July 19, 2015, 03:41:12 AM
Shocked

Highly unlikely that this coin will ever die as long as Bitcoin is around.

The base is too large.

I agree, as long as there is even a slight possibility that Bitcoin might stumble, LTC will be around.

In my view if we all find out that this last halving of LTC was just a pump and dump by BTC and LTC whales and the price goes back AFTER halving to around
say 1.69 usd to 2.00 (it was 1.69 june 5th 2015) well ...a lot of p/o'd bag holders at that point will dump and anyone still mining scrypt on equipment they
already have (me with titan(s)) will DEFINITELY be mining LTC to BTC direct and not holding LTC anymore..ie run the rubber band out imho

and also at that price again imho we likely would NOT see any new scrypt pow miners of any type in the works either data hall exclusive or less likely
home miner versions..it would really cripple if not kill all pow/scrypt like LTC and dodgecoin etc

such a hit would wind the worldwide press up as well and the FUD would fly on how pow/scrypt alts are in trouble thus the inevitable that means bitcoin is
in trouble (not really but that is what the FUD would say) so would likely for a bit effect BTC price lower

so yeah LTC and pow/scrypt could go away....if on this halving it was all pump and goes back to old prices with 1/2 the coin you are able to mine with your
scrypt/pow equipment for LTC and/or as a result of this price return to around 2 bucks..the further unlikelyhood of any new pow/scrypt equipment of any kind

now LTC currently is doing what I expect...ie around 4 bucks and after halving I expect the same if not a small rise due to the halving ..but the above alternative
is possible if not as likely imho as just the expected 3 - 4 buck LTC coin after halving

"prepare for the worst......hope for the best" I guess Smiley

Amazing that people still buy LTC  Cheesy

I'm mining it with titan(s) and I'm scratching my head on all this.....if LTC sits at around 4 after the halving...well the old ltc to btc argument
of ltc is silver to btc's gold may have some merit...if it dumps back down to like 1.69 usd as it was June 5th 2015 AFTER THE HALVING .... well imho
all pow scrypt alts like LTC/dodge etc will eventually go poof....because the vast majority of miners will not be able to mine it with
electric costs and/or no new asic equip scrypt miners will be developed either for data or less likely home miners..ie alts will die....AGAIN
at the old 2 buck or under price after the halving of LTC.

Now there are people (who shall remain nameless (ie economists/worldwide press etc) that say THE SAME THING is what is
eventually gonna happen to Bitcoin infrastructure as well...no sure if thats the case ..but sure will a lot of FUD if the above
worse case on pow scrypt alts comes to pass

probably all will be fine..but if it all was just a pump and dump and LTC price goes down to 1.69 or 2 bucks or so again..after the
HALVING LTC will imho no longer be viable as a coin and start its slow decline along with other pow scrypt alts

and to tell you the truth if those pow scypt alts start to fade at least in the 'short term' it is not gonna do any good to bitcoin's
reputation and price either with the press feeding frenzy and FUD as such a circus if it should occur

my bet is price will be between 3 and 4 bucks and stablize for LTC after the halving...if not then even the BTC price will be in for
hopefully a short term wild ride downward imho

(but then again what do I know at one time drank the bfl and knc kool aid) Smiley

again LTC can crash to 2 bucks again BEFORE the halving etc but if it crashes down to that price again AFTER the halving I sure
don't see it recovering and again that being the case my 2nd premise is that BTC would take quite the hit price and acceptance
at least short term (say 5 months or so) should such happen it would be ugly ugly ugly

anyway again what do I know...I also would not be buying in now on LTC ..probably BTC but not LTC Smiley

4.5btc for this hardware?! thats fucking ridiculous! my gosh why are people paying for this shit?!

again imho this device is just out there in 100 buck lots to 'wave the flag' on the chips and they have a miner

the chips are mostly gonna be used for their 'at cost' data hall imho or bulk sales of chips to others with same data hall ideas imho in china

if they manage to move a few of these units to some foolish folk no issues....they show an actual product

much easier to move them bulk chips imho showing any kind of product ..then just saying "Hey I got bulk chips that do such and such"

SFARDS never was serious about the equipment imho it was just a gimmick to move their chips and such as again imho think was their main

focus their 'I'm sure soon to be announced" soon DATA HALL using such chips and the call for big IPO $$$ of such in such it is what the

chip makers do now (spondoolies, knc, etc)

anyway how I see their logic

will ltc go to 0.02. I'm contemplating on whether to buy or wait for it to go under 0.01

You just missed a pretty massive pump and dump.  The question is, will that group rinse and repeat.

Doubtful imho (an I'm holding a mess of LTC) the next "ferry ride" and go round will be on the bitcoin halving in 2016 (august?) imho

Would not http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gresham%27s_law apply on a Bimetallism market setup?

Vastly depends upon altcoin acceptance inside nieche shops even, to be accepted as payment. Just imagine, more acceptance as a payment should move Bitcoin into beeing the reserve currency that people pile up. Just like it is, now.

I'm not talking about shops or payments. I'm talking about speculation. Look at LTC, PPC, NMC, etc.'s price during cryptobooms. April 2013. November 2013. Altcoins all go up during cryptobooms.

You just can't buy completely garbage altcoins that die after 1 month.

As a person who has 3000 LTC yet ...I resemble the above remarks (sigh) ...be warned I probably 'jinx'd' the works don't ya know...but the way things are looking now
might be bitcoin halving 2016 for the next ride on the ferry...not sure if I need another 'ferry ride' seems I get sea sick a lot and want to jump off the LTC boat most
of the trip.....not pleasant ...but I take your point as being 'kinda' valid in a broad way (up to this point anyway)

(this should clear the hoard of LTC out there when folk see I'm holding EVERYONE will bail....I always choose wrong.....you have been warned!) Smiley
