I am a bit confused. I thought that by December the EU will completely stop importing gas from Russia. And the so called "price cap" is for the crude oil exports from Russia and not for gas (pipeline and LNG). And the price cap is to be implemented by non-EU countries who import Russian fuel, but China has already announced that they will not impose this limit. India has remained uncommitted, and may or may not agree to a cap. But the Russian government has already made their plans clear. No Russian fuel for countries that impose the price cap. So in case India impose this limit, then they will not get any imports from Russia. As far as I know, Russian coal is banned in EU already. Russian oil will be banned in December, and Russian gas is still allowed because we can't go without it. I don't think EU has the power to force other countries to obey a price cap, although collectively it would be great! We should do the same on OPEC countries too, but unfortunately that's not how markets work. If we offer less, someone else will buy it and we get nothing. |

for now EU should thank Russia for whatever gas they are getting. For now Russia should thank EU for getting more money than ever! the gas prices are so high that Russia will get the same amount of profit even if they sell 5% of the volumes that they sold in 2020. And I am sure that they are selling much more than that. EU plans to implement a price cap on Russian gas, but only starting December 5. And I don't expect the cap to be at normal prices, which would mean a 95% reduction from what we're currently paying. So EU will keep paying more money for less gas. Talk about backfiring! |

There will be people who will optimize the "mining-heater", I think No they won't. It's a competitive market: if it's profitable, the hash rate will go up, more miners will be installed, and it will consume more electricity again. I have read these sort of stories and I find this thinking very innovative and a good way to recycle the heat generated from mining equipment. There was an April Fools joke a few years back, to place servers in homes to get free heat. On the other hand I'm not sure if this can be extended to summertime mining, unless there are air conditioning systems which work with heat as an input (  I don't think that's logical). Low temperature heat is quite useless for cooling. Using a miner only in cold months means you'll never earn back the hardware, and by the time summer is over, the hash rate went up so much your miner is worthless. |

Unless you're otherwise using "dumb" electric resistor heating to heat your house, using electricity (without heat pump) wastes much more coal/gas/anything at the power plant than using that fuel directly to heat your house, because the power plant's efficiency is far from 100%. If you want to be efficient: use excess heat from the power plant in block heating. |

With less than 145 million km2 land surface area, that's a cosy 3 people per m 2. The focus has been on CO 2 and the climate for a long time, up to the point of storing CO 2 underground. You have to distinguish between "using Bitcoin" and "buying Bitcoin". To use Bitcoin, all you need is internet access. To avoid tracking, it's best if you're not behind a Great Firewall and can for instance use Tails. It runs through the Tor network and comes with Electrum pre-installed. As long as you can use Tor, you can use Bitcoin. If you can't use Tor, you may be able to use Tor Bridges or (as a last resort) use a VPN. I can't really advice on how to buy Bitcoin, P2P options will vary per country. It's risky though: people have been robbed this way. I read that many have had their bank accounts banned, especially when there is a huge inflow Even in countries where Bitcoin isn't banned, any "huge inflow" raises questions from a bank. |
