681  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Power Saving Tip - CPU Core Speed on: December 19, 2011, 01:36:03 PM
Being an AMD product, can CCC do this on Intel CPU's too? I just do it in the BIOS, but it would be nice to do it "on the fly".

CCC doesn't supprt Intel CPUs.My mobo is an Asus model so I can use EPU-6 utility to really reduce my CPU volts and clock speed. It's like a BIOs tweak but within windows :-)

For convenience set it to Auto.I put mine on Medium power savings (as Max power saving switches off my case fans on my PC which are needed to help cool my system down)

Takes some tweaking but it's worth it.I shaved off 35W by using that tool plus a further 10W by enabling Green Ethernet on my NIC (cable is 20m long so energy use adds up) plus 5W from disabling firewire, saved 8W by switching to SSD from system HDD and 13W by removing 2 HDDs and replacing them with 1 2TB eco HDD which uses only 3 watts (instead of using 16W from 80GB and 750GB HDDs like before)

So total energy saved is:71W from all those mods.

Pretty damn impressive for power savings huh.

My CPU is a Core i7 920
6GB RAM (CPU and RAM underclock together to save even more power)

But that then begs the question of why are you paying for an i7 920 if you are going to cripple it so much?

WTF? I just logged in today to find I've been mining namecoins without my consent? I don't want namecoins. :/ This should not have been an automatic opt-in feature.

Now you guys make wonder, assuming you have a bitcoin business,  if you could deduct losses of your bitcoin holdings as currency exchange costs Smiley

Don't forget to report your income generating bitcoins as well.
684  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are You buying with bitcoins? on: September 19, 2011, 03:46:57 PM
Some programming services. A few pranks.

Oh, and scams. Spent $450 on scams. Cry

Will you be in Houston anytime soon? I'd be willing to buy the 5870 and can meet you in person.

Sent you a PM as well.

Got scammed for $450 worth of bitcoin... ugh, really shakes your confidence and makes you think about whether or not you want to continue participating in bitcoin.

Sad

This will make it a lot harder for the world to accept bitcoin.
688  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Radeon HD 6970 (SOLD!) on: September 09, 2011, 07:07:50 PM
Bought at $225 apiece. Shipped and delivered with good communication.

Now, just gotta get home to test that they work... Cheesy

So far it looks good though. Trustworthy seller.

Turns out one of them was defective.

HOWEVER, coblee was wonderful about the process. Offered to give me the original receipt so that I could ship it to MSI under warranty OR send the card back to him for a refund.

Grade A seller in my book, *especially* after I got scammed elsewhere here for $450 for a 5970.

Would recommend to ANYONE. It's not often you get someone willing to stand behind their used merchandise.

691  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to restore wallet from backup? on: September 09, 2011, 02:42:01 AM
Woot! Figured it out! Basically, windows wasn't letting me restore directly to Appdata.

I need to restore to a temp location first, then overwrite the Bitcoin folder in C:\Users\Me\AppData\Roaming with the folder I restored. Woohooo!

Got an address for me to tip to? You may as well get some of these rescued coins! Thanks for helping. Smiley
692  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to restore wallet from backup? on: September 09, 2011, 02:37:05 AM
No, I haven't. I'm just checking previous receiving addresses portion of the client and it comes up with nothing. Sad
693  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to restore wallet from backup? on: September 09, 2011, 02:32:44 AM
Not so much...

Does the new bitcoin client that I just DLed overwrite my old wallet.dat file?
694  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to restore wallet from backup? on: September 09, 2011, 02:28:30 AM
Okay, so I restored my wallet.dat to where it was located in

C:\Users\My Name\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin

I've downloaded the latest bitcoin client, but it still can't seem to find any of my previous receiving addresses? How do I make my bitcoin client use my old wallet.dat file?
695  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to restore wallet from backup? on: September 09, 2011, 02:15:53 AM
Update: It seems like it lost all the previous addresses it had? Is that stored somewhere else?

{edit: seems like the guy above me ansewred that quesiton lol}
696  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How to restore wallet from backup? on: September 09, 2011, 02:11:35 AM
Hey all,

So I reformatted my computer without sending my coins to Mt. Gox. D'oh.

BUTTTTT...I have a system backup from a week ago. Great, right?

Well...I restored the folder C:\\Program Files(X86)\Bitcoin , but it doesn't have the 25 odd coins that I had in my wallet...? What? Am I missing something? If I restore the entire folder Bitcoin from the program files folder, shouldn't it still have all my bitcoins in it?

What am I missing? :/

That uber sucks that his phone doesn't work.

I thought, if anything, I would be able to do what I did to the last person who scammed me: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=28408.0

500 texts/minute adds up pretty quick to a phone bill.
699  Other / Obsolete (buying) / Re: [Closed] WTS: 5x5850 and a 5970 on: September 08, 2011, 07:29:05 PM
the number is not in service. Thanks a lot Pyroman83 adding to the list of scammers contributing nothing to society.

*sigh*. I got tricked pretty good. I thought the way he acted was very indicative of not a scammer, but alas...

school of hard knocks woohoo...

{edit, spelled knocks "knows" lol}

Yes, i last heard from him on friday after i transferred payment for two 5850s. He said he was going to ship the two cards on Tuesday of this week (being labor day and all) i pmed him on Tuesday night and heard nothing. I pmed him yesterday and heard nothing. Lets hope this is all just a misunderstanding. I will try as well.

thanks

Yeah, I was hoping it was a misunderstanding, but based on the fact that he's logging in (and obviously seeing all of our PMs) and not responding is a bad sign. Plus, the fact that he tried deleting his posts in these threads. Sad
