681  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread -NEM has launched[Updates&Discussion] on: April 08, 2015, 06:39:57 AM
The NEM admin I guess quite fairly said they can't do that behind the back of the community. But they also said I should ask The community IF I deserve a stake. I guess it's up to feedback on here now. I won't beg I just think it's fair.

What a frustrating situation. I don't know if the decision has already been made--I didn't see anything in the pages immediately following the original post.

Here's my 2 satoshis.

If this had happened to me, I would probably be asking for the same thing. However, when I got my stake token and then later the real account data private and public keys, those came with strict warnings to not lose them. So I backed them up in my password manager which I could access from anywhere, and I also stored them on two encrypted flash drives, one of which was stored away from my home (you know, in case my house and computer burned down or something). I've been in crypto for a while and have a number of wallet passwords stored in this way, and I know that if I ever lose one of them, I lose access to associated wallet, regardless of how many funds are in said wallet and regardless of who feels sorry for me, etc. In most cases the funds simply can't be accessed without that password or private key no matter how much someone might want to.

So... what I'm hearing here is that nextgencoin stored his private key in one place only, which was on his computer hard drive. Then the computer crashed and he lost the data. He's asking to be compensated for the lost coins.

The problem with compensating is that the coins used for compensation have to come from somewhere, like the community fund, so that they would be unavailable for their original intended purpose.

The problem with not compensating is that nextgencoin would in essence be punished for not saving his very important private key in multiple locations, which isn't exactly a crime. That seems stiff. But unfortunately that is common in crypto, and people kind of have to make plans for that because it's the nature of the beast.

I don't really have a good answer, but those are the issues I see.

If the decision was already made, then forgive my redundancy.

One can't even prove that he has lost his key. Say he get's a stake. What happens if 1 hour later the account that he claimed lost is empty? Everyone will tell the devs how stupid they are.
It's his fault. It sux but that's how it is.
Also judging by how he behaved in this thread it prob served him right (personal opinion). i don't think there was any official statement yet he went on a retard rampage.

So it seems this thread suddenly became completely useless. Bummer. Guess I'll just hang out on the NEM forum from now on.

Yeah...prob for the best. If you have telegram you can join the group there as well if you're really motivated Wink

Well, I have still my nem stake in the nxt asset exchange cause I was ill for a while and could not check my computer. As I've read in the nem forums there is a way to redeem my stake until the end of May. The developers wanted to publish a portal which allows us to redeem. However they said on 04/01 that it will be ready within two days. Is anyone uptodate? Is this portal online? Thanks!

afaik there was a deadline for stakes on the AE and it looks like you missed it unfortunately

There is an extended redemption period.

do NIS have to be still running for delegated harvesting ?
Basically do one has to leave the little nem shield running in task bar to do so ?

No. You can turn off your computer entirely...

IF you are harvesting on a remote NIS.

Have you received an answer from Bloody yet ?
Maybe you should get a cup of stfup instead of spreading potentially false allegations AGAIN !
How about you go over to the other platforms thread that has the exact same attack vector that you are reffering to ?

...
It's not false allegations. If you harvest with 65% coins controlled by NEM core then PoI rating may be above 50% which means that NEM is ..
...

You say that as if it's something someone could just do without any effort.
I don't mind you looking into NEMs security, in fact I welcome it. I don't appreciate how you phrase things and how you present your findings. (And no I don't mind you're doing it publicly)
686  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread -100% Original Codebase - Over 70 Team Members on: April 07, 2015, 06:33:11 AM
Yeah, they get the exact same thing when they don't participate in a pool but in any remote NIS. And since letting people harvest on a node doesnt take much CPU load, I believe this will be pretty decentralized.

You forgot about Sybil attack. People will connect to different NIS controlled by a single entity.

Well thats been over one week NEM has been out and guess what , our position in the market has been pretty stable....very stable in fact. I have been around since the start and have dug pretty deep and know XEM is fairly distributed. All the FUD was just that...FUD. The fair distribution model is a good one and I expect prices to rise from here . It may not be fast price rises but thats fine. I have not sold one XEM and will not even think about it till we are at least 30 times the marketcap of now and then it will only be a small amount. Its been a good start guys. Theres lots of guys in the background working their butts off too . This is the beginning....................

Agreed. In fact XEM performs exactly as many expected. Most of the people that weren't dreaming and made realistic estimates estimated just about what we're seeing right now. Anyone that is heavily dissapointed in the price had too high expectations.
It's the first week after launch and this is a long term project. Realize that people!

Need help! Sad

Quote
Hi,

I setup my NEM account with funds around 2M as multi signature, with other 2 NEM accounts.

Now, the Send XEM button is grey in the account with 2M.

Means it's frozen there? And can't be used?? Sad

If Not, please help me understand how can I send those XEM if I ever needed to?

Regards,
Satinder

You can now issue tx from the other 2 accounts only. Guess someone should have read the tutorial first ?

As a BTT-stakeholder, can I already claim my stake now or is there nothing new since launch?

P.S.: A guy like "smaragda" is not acceptable anywhere in the net, with his infatile insults in his posts and even in his signature. Just ban him and don't waste your time for this troll.

You can't ban people from threads (allthough that would actually be awesome). Everyone has to use their own ignore lists for that if they are so inclined.

please vote NEM on Cryptsy
https://www.cryptsy.com/coinvotes/

considering that 1 guy has paid for 100 votes 114 votes/24h are very poor for a movment like NEM

Voting isn't NEMs thing appearantly. Been on hitbtc forever and still not enough votes appearantly.

Hello guys. I have been way from this thread for a few weeks due to an ongoing illness, but i now see that Nem is live on Poloniex!

What do i need to do from here to start trading my NEM? Please advise me. All i have is my token ID which starts with "ae" followed by a number of digits.

I never redeemed my token or traded on the assets exchange and due to illness keeping me away from all of the developments, i have just been sitting on this since i first bought a stake way back at the start of last year.

How do i get my XEM now. As i said, all i have on my end right now is my XEM token code starting with "ae"

Please help

You'll get a new token once extended redemption starts. No exact time for that yet but I'd guess sometime this week.

so I have tried to istall the latest client ans it keep asking for 1.8 Java

I have installed java "8" several times now to try an fix that and restarted. No dice.

any help apreciated
Do you mean that the NEM installer doesn't work? You need 64 bit Java for that.

do you have a 32 bit windows?

did you try the stand alone by chance?

http://blog.nem.io/windows-installation-guide-standalone/

also, please try this

http://blog.nem.io/how-to-remove-old-nem-software-versions/

yeah I am running 32 bit is a VM.

the old nem started up fine....but this version needs 64 bit?

only the installer. The standalone will run on 32bit as well.

Is there a set date when they will start?  As far as I understand the node rewards won't last forever,  so if this is true then it's just a temporary solution.

No date yet no. It'll need to be coded first.
They won't last forever and they are meant to be temporary.

They last 2-3 years. If after that amount of time the network is still not generating enough volume that the fees are rewarding harvesters enough then I'll personally start to re-consider my position towards NEM. 2-3 years should be enough to grow the ecosystem and make it usefull which in turn will cause volume and more reward for harvesters.

It's a temporary solution because only a temporary solution should be needed. There is a lot of thinking behind all of these things.

I have kept the client open for 4 days and 0 coins vested.

nothing. you dont even need the client open. theres a bug in displaying the vested balance right now.
695  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread -NEM has launched[Updates&Discussion] on: April 04, 2015, 04:34:35 PM
Still 0 into vested balance after 48h what is the problem??
Anyone can help??

Happened to me also, but after little more than 48h it started to harvest ok...

Afaik there's currently a bug in display of vested balance.
696  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread -NEM has launched[Updates&Discussion] on: April 04, 2015, 12:31:57 PM
I followed several cryptocommunities and I see that NEM goes the same route. And the result will be the same if you don't stop for a moment and revise the plan. What unique does NEM have that the others didn't? Emphasize these very points. I'm not talking about cool tech, Nxt clearly showed that 99% of us don't care about tech progress.

Maybe it's because I'm tired but I actually aggre with you on that (apart from the fact that NEM is taking that route, I don't think it is).
Most cryptos focus on tech, tech and tech. Solid tech is needed but adding every feature in the book just to have it is bullshit. We need to do what's necessary to gain adoption and to make people realize that NEM isn't meant to be just another crypto.
697  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NODE Revolution: "Money is a means of payment, not speculation" (с) on: April 04, 2015, 12:26:58 PM

Horseshit and you know it.
No pat, These exchanges just does not add coins based on innovation or source code. I know how they work, Polo added "NAS" and i also exactly know how they added HZ which is a fork of NXT. Just check Polo and you will see whole lot of shit coins trading there without no vol.

Maybe you think they work honestly but i just dont believe that anymore.

From personal experience I can say that they have been very patient and decent. Maybe that's just my personal experience but I couldn't say a bad thing about Poloniex at this point.
It's true that they have shitcons there as well but show me one exchange that doesn't (besides Kraken and others in the bigleagues).
I'm not saying I'd trust them with my life or all my coins but my experience with them so far has been nothing but positive.
698  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread -NEM has launched[Updates&Discussion] on: April 04, 2015, 10:43:02 AM
I own the electronic retail site: www.eyeboot.com and we will be accepting NEM payment very soon.

That's cool.
How about a limited discount for people paying with XEM on a Pi2 ? Smiley

Sure let me see what we can work out.
I love the project by the way.

glad to hear it. I guess it's best to contact xtester or anyone else from the core team and maybe you can hash something out.
699  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread -NEM has launched[Updates&Discussion] on: April 04, 2015, 10:41:28 AM
WE NEEED MARKETING!
Where are all those devs and marketers? since the launch devs and "marketers" (except patmast3r and gimre) just disapeard. Also i don't understnd why the op was deleted. Now if somebody new comes here problably will not click on that link, also there are not enough informations. The original op was much more better. If i'm not wrong the btt stakeholders doesn't even get their stakes. JUST IMAGINE THAT THESE PEOPLES GOT  2btc+ for free . Do you think they will hodl for another year? When they will get it, we have to expect a huge dump. I'm not of affraid of this dump because of the price ,anyway I'M NOT SELLING MINES. The problem is that, people around exchanges will see only that nem price is falling like hell, and they will NOT join the nem community.WE HAVE TO increase the community, we need more active devs and "marketers".
EDIT: yeah, and you can start to upbraid me, like patmast3r did after my other comment like this.

we are very active, I assure you.  we are the ones that made the nem.io website and all the tutorials at http://blog.nem.io/ we also are having lots of meeting behind the scenes.  if you would like to contribute please pm me and I'll explain how you can help.

The behind the scenese meetings and whatever isn't blowing up the PR section. You can see that from launch. Everybody was so excited before the launch for months. The launch had to be a much bigger "impact".On the forums(here and nem forum),beside the woohoo comments and to the moon comments , almost nothing happend. People were asking wondered on poloniex that wtf is that nem. Some idiots just throw that it was a free distribution nxt asset, then you can guess what people thought about nem.
To clear things up . I'M SPEAKING ABOUT THE PR STUFF, not about the technical.

Yeah, it would make sense that during first 48 hours at least one of the "7 marketers" was present in the Poloniex chat to explain things. But instead they were in some backroom. Holding a meeting. It appears there is not even the simplest marketing step by step plan.

so you'd rather have them spent their time defending against a couple of DASH shills that don't give a damn anyway ?

5 idiots were posting there FUD, but 500 people were reading the FUD. So yeah I think it would be hours very well spend to explain things in that chat.

so tell me why you didn't do it ?
psybit said it. Instead of constantly demand some of you need to start doing.

Anon and geocaching seem to be quite hot right now. Altough I don't know if u're planning to go there.

Honestly there are a lot of cool features in the wild but none of them seem to bring much adoption to those platforms.
Adoption is where I'd like NEM to go. Implement the features that people (and I mean all people not just crypto circle jerkers) need and want instead of features that are technicaly interesting and cool but most people won't ever use.
