681  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: I changed my mind about bitcoin-central.net ... on: January 11, 2011, 11:11:23 PM
Here we go, for those who would like to localize the code for their particular language I've commited an example at https://github.com/davout/bitcoin-central/commit/e135135f3f7a1062104b7e59ae36701a94559123

In this example I've localized a template into french, so you can see that it basically involved removing strings from the template and putting them into a translations dictionary.

I've also added some locale switching code, so if you want to change locale at run-time, instead of modifying the core config file you can just pass a ?locale=pl GET parameter in the request and your session will start using the locale you passed.

If you want to translate large chunks of text dictionaries are cumbersome, see http://guides.rubyonrails.org/i18n.html#localized-views to see how Rails elegantly manages this one too.

As a final word, would you want to start translating into a language that doesn't yet have a locale file in config/locales you'll want to get the base translations from here https://github.com/svenfuchs/rails-i18n and add them into config/locales before starting the actual extraction/translation work.

Have fun and request pulls (on the integration branch) Smiley

You are Legend +1 Smiley

683  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [PLEASE VOTE] Who would use a "get free bitcoins for offers/services" site? on: January 11, 2011, 12:25:26 AM
And the free bitcoins your PC grinds for aren't really "free" either. I just think there's a mentality that a lot of people have when hearing about it: "I like the idea, I want some, but I'm not paying for them!" It's why people grind in the farming pools for millibitcoins, and it's a good thing for the bitcoin community as it spreads the wealth, making trade more viable.  Smiley

I call it free because it has zero monetary cost, just as that "free" sandwich from the deli that's doing a promotion requires physical transport to get to  Wink

Anyway this is precisely what I should have made more clear in my post, so thanks for pointing it out. I just would be very interested to know if people would use such a service  Grin

It probably would depend on how badly one needs bitcoins. I personally wouldn't bother neither for "real" money nor bitcoins.

Amazing this thread is getting so little response; an open source bitcoin exchange is probably one of the most important things right now.

don't worry, this thread (and the other one about bitcoin-central) are watched.
maybe ppl have nothing to say/contribute to discussion?

What I meant was I was expecting some kind of appreciation for davout since he decided to release the source code nearly a month earlier. Anyway, it made ME happy.
685  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: I changed my mind about bitcoin-central.net ... on: January 10, 2011, 10:49:17 PM
Yay, I see it in gray in my account Cheesy

Ok, so if you want to localize the code, Rails makes it pretty easy, also it would really be an incredibly useful thing to do to pull out hardcoded strings and put them in localized files.

The locale files reside in :
config/locales/*.yml

http://guides.rubyonrails.org/i18n.html this is a must read if you want to start localizing it properly Smiley

I suggest, that if you want to see a quick result you fork the projet, create a polish locale and start easy by translating the model attributes names

Hah, this is going to be fun!
686  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: 450btc Bounty (Pledge) for Open Source Exchange project. on: January 10, 2011, 10:45:54 PM
Davout just open sourced his code for bitcoin central. I think it qualifies for this bounty or if it doesnt why not?

I have just sent whatever I pledged to davout since I am happy with his code. Just in case the community decides not to accept davout's bitcoin-central as the final project, could someone please delete my pledge from here? Thanks.
687  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: I changed my mind about bitcoin-central.net ... on: January 10, 2011, 10:25:14 PM
Feck it, just send you the 250BTC. Smiley

Thanks for the help, already studying an online tutorial.  Cool

Once I get to know Ruby, I will convert this to a Polish exchange.
688  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Official Bitcoin Unicode Character? on: January 10, 2011, 09:53:24 PM
I believe this election was rigged.

However, even if you add up both of the circled-characters, they still didn't beat the ฿

Wink

To me, the fact that the ฿ is already an existing unicode character, adds about 20 brownie points to that choice.

Once we grow big enough, we will just push on the Thai government to change their symbol. Smiley

Nothing, it was a joke. A bad one, it seems. Wink

You are LEGEND!
And you pledged 250 BTC Cheesy

Says the guy generating ~block per day! Tongue

But seriously man, I am going to go through that other thread and also examine your source-code. Then I will send you the 250, just give me a few days. Smiley

Too bad I have no previous experience with Ruby on Rails, but going to read the two books from the README file link. Keep in eye on your Bitcoin balance. Wink

Sent you a PM.
694  Economy / Marketplace / Re: I buy vintage PC games for Bitcoins on: January 09, 2011, 04:45:21 PM
Hooo, me and my brother were trying to get outselves to sell some of our collection of the 1990's games for years now.

If you're interested I could e-mail you the list with details.

Please do!
695  Other / Meta / Re: XMPP/Jabber ID in forum user profiles on: January 09, 2011, 12:36:57 AM
I see that I can add YIM, AIM, MSN (none of which I use anymore) to my profile, but there is no option for XMPP (commonly known as Jabber).

Since this is the only popular FOSS IM protocol and the only decentralised one as well, it'd be nice to have it as an option.

Your dart landed in the Cyan section which pays 100% back.

The payment hash that was used was bdc942168bd8df688b267c6536adbc7cded4c90bcc6745393455e2dc026c8f61

Haha, happy birthday to myself. Thanks again guys!

698  Other / Off-topic / Re: Recommend a Linux distro for home use? on: January 08, 2011, 05:49:41 PM
Arch Linux Rolling release.

If you had never used any linux distro before go Ubuntu then. Smiley

I am pretty experienced with "work stuff" like using the console to build/configure/run iptables, samba, apache, nagios and whatever else I need on my servers.

I have never used the GUI though (well, hardly ever), thus what I am looking for is something that would be very suitable for using at home without too much hassle for getting to play movies, music etc. I have downloaded Ubuntu and give it a try shortly.

Thanks again for your feedback.

Actually, what I am going to do is wait until midnight (GMT) and then put all the BTC I got on bitcoindarts. If I win something I am going to give it back to all people who donated, so stay tuned for today. Smiley
