I like the idea of this service, however I am not convinced it is worth the security risk. Let me tell you why. All services which require you to deposit and hold coins in their online wallets usually have a net benefit for the service to not run off with your coins. ie. an exchange can make more money from the trading volume on your account, than just shuttering their doors and running off with the money. That being said, I do like ispace, they were an early pool partner. However my business-sense gut is telling me that it's not a good idea to give up control of your coins for a service which doesn't have any big incentive to not just run away with the coins. At the end of the day, the whole revolution that crypto has brought to the people is the decentralized nature of currency. Once we voluntarily give that up to a 3rd party centralized entity, then we've lost the most important aspect of cryptocurrency: The ability and responsibility to maintain your own coins securely. That being said, if there is a significant outcry from the community, I will contact ispace about the PoS online wallets. It is a convenient service, but ultimately not required or necessary, and the little convenience it offers comes with greatly lowered security for the user by letting someone else manage your wallet for you. Call me old fashioned, but I don't give out my private key, it's bad form in crypto! I was in contact with bill and he told me hes heading off to sacramento. Why not recommend someone who would talk to u in a laid back manner and throw out a relevant suggestion. After talking to bill I got a pain in my stomach and fainted. The nodes outside of the lan don't have to connect to you, if you want run a local node/wallet. They only have to know your public ip in order to "allow" your access.
But the nodes you are connecting to have to be public, of course...
Edit: if you want to make your computer public available you have to configure your routers routing tables.
Thanks a lot for the answer! So the two nodes behind different NAT servers have no chance to connect. If I have my PC behind a NAT, and have no access to router to configure it, I have to search for peers running on public machines only... It looks like people should specify whether whey run public IP or not, when they ask for nodes in nodesharing channel... so there will be less issues. One more question: lets say I have access to router, so can forward traffic to my PC, but I do not want to forward all the traffic. Which port should I forward, so IOTA wallet can be connected from outside? In other words, which ports IOTA uses? Is it one port or many? TCP or UDP? Thanks for help. I know if this goes to technical, I'll have to go to Slack... I did not try IOTA, but with byteball there's no problem to run within a subnet, behind the NAT. The nodes communicate well and have no issue. Maybe I should try IOTA for that too. I also have Byteball wallet successfully running in a LAN behind a NAT... Actually with Byteball its easy, as it just works. With IOTA it would be tricky, as you have to manually find nodes, which are nowhere publicly available. You have to go to Slack, ask for nodes and somehow make sure you find only peers who run node on machines directly connected to Internet and running public IP address... As you need to find 5-9 nodes of that kind (involving a chat with every other node owner, just to find out whether he runs public IP or not and whether he agrees to connect to node like yours, expect about a week of setup time I am not complaining, as I understand it is the way it is, and there are good reasons for removal of auto peer discovery and introducing this notorious manual node search instead. The coin has a very small volume on the exchanges. Not many people interested in BEEZ now. No proper promotion. One year has passed since launch. I never heard about it and glad I havent. Though I will do my best to shutter that little exchange where its listed, I will do it to show people that Im the only dude who has permissions to kill cryptos. I could attack the network or modify the source code but this will require more time. |

What will happen next is that miners will flock to the new pool, and, as a result, hashrate will migrate too. |
