I think negative feedback is too strong if it's based on only this post:
Hi Guys,

Be very careful of a new forum member on here named "YCTMatt". He has photos of some friend he has in China with miners, but is a scam. Several folks have sent him BTC for miners and got nothing in return except for fake tracking numbers. Mods need to do something about this ASAP. He also locks the thread so no one can respond in his thread. Buyer beware guys! Buyer Beware
Neutral feedback should be more than enough to point any potential buyer towards that post, so they can make their own decision. I kinda expect people who pay thousands of dollars for hardware to take their own precautions anyway, and not just trust anything they see online.

Newbie whitepunk has a point about the locked thread though. @YCTMatt: it's better if you unlock your topic, instead of asking people to contact you on (scammers' paradise) Telegram.
6882  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mixers that mix bitcoin without letting it be obvious that it came from a mixer? on: August 27, 2022, 01:36:47 PM
Sorry if I'm repeating what someone else has already said, but I find threads like these where franky has an entrenched position to be too exhausting to read properly.
Me too. I put the guy back on ignore, but he's posted here 39 times and people keep entertaining him (I'm guilty of that a few times too) while he just repeats the same thing over and over again.

the original topic gets ripped into pieces.
This. And since off-topic doesn't seem to get deleted, this topic is useless by now.

The energy problem is not just in America
This feels like Americans complaining about high gasoline prices, while they have no idea how lucky they are Cheesy

What rates do you guys pay now, if you need a new contract? I just checked here: more than 1 euro per kWh, and more than 5 euro per m3 natural gas. That means €1500 to heat your house in January, and another $200 to turn on the lights.
Prices keep going up on a weekly or even daily basis.

I need to start looking for a winter house in Spain Cheesy

Do you have some tool to prepare this list or you are checking manually ?
I type fast Tongue

Okay, serious answer: I have some tool, and manually copy/paste the results here.

LoyceV never checks anything manually. Roll Eyes
Lol. I may be called AI once in a while, but I do manually check things.
6885  Economy / Economics / Re: More Americans Than Ever Can’t Afford to Pay Their Electric Bill on: August 27, 2022, 12:30:33 PM
And I just paid my electric bill for the past 2 months and it was $0.32.
Which country is this? Can you share how much energy you used for this price, and how it gets that low?

Here, we have (for both gas and electricity) a fixed cost per day for the connection and consumption rate. Both are subdivided into several parts including taxes, but that's not relevant for the total. We also get a fixed tax reduction, which is higher than the fixed cost per day. So if you don't use much in summer, you can get very low or even negative costs. But, we pay an average amount per month so people can still afford it in winter.

A bag of chips is 10x more expensive than that which always makes me wonder why the hell our hashrate isn't higher than 10% yet. There is some regulations involved and some taxes but it is not that bad to discourage major investment in big mining farms.
A 9.6% hashrate would put you in Canada. I how no idea how power prices are build up there.
6886  Economy / Economics / Re: More Americans Than Ever Can’t Afford to Pay Their Electric Bill on: August 27, 2022, 11:37:51 AM
I don't think it's just the Americans. In Europe a lot of families are going to have trouble paying for electricity.
I'm pretty sure it's going to be far worse for Europeans than it is for Americans.

Quote
Many countries have either lowered energy taxes, or are now subsidizing energy. My country is now even subsidizing large industries to keep them compatitive.
There's a fundamental problem with that: it doesn't solve the shortage! If everyone would consume (say) 20% less energy, there wouldn't be a shortage, prices would be back to normal (90-95% lower than the current prices), and we'd all spend 20% less.
If, on the other hand, everyone pays 10 times more (with or without subsidy), and uses the same amount of energy, we still have a shortage that won't be solved in the short term, and drain money out of our economy towards other countries. Part of that money comes from increasing government debt, made possible by the low interest, and all it does is fuel inflation.

Quote
But I think about it from a more global perspective: what else will an increasing number of families not be able to afford as energy prices affect everything and produce inflation.
I just checked: at our current household energy consumption, the cheapest new contract would be €550 per month. That's an energy supplier I've never heard of. There are a few other offers around €700 per month. It's crazy, especially since this country is sitting on large natural gas reserves. We used to be a large exporter of natural gas (when it was very cheap), but now gas production will shut down in October (that's a political decision).

Quote
It is clear that they are not going to stop eating, even if they are looking to save more on groceries. I understand that the leisure sector and other non-essential sectors will be the most affected.
Here, supermarkets increased their revenue while they sold less products. We don't stop eating, but we're either eating less or cheaper products.
6887  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Privacy Tips: Don't send round amount on: August 27, 2022, 10:58:36 AM
0.00246792 BTC is $50 right now. Nothing round about that.
If the amount in dollars (or euros or any other major currency) is a round number, it's trivially easy for a block explorer (or anyone observing the transaction) to check and they'll assume that's the amount you sent, and the other amount goes to your change address.

Worlds Most Reliable Bitcoin Mixer
Don't you think it's a big claim and you can not achieve it overnight.
From what I've seen, reliable sites never make any such claims. They don't need to, because their reputation will speak for them. The ones who make claims of being "the most reliable", are the ones I don't trust.

Mixers are in the trust business. Mixers should never lie. I know for a fact that a site on a one month old domain can't be the most reliable Bitcoin mixer out there. That means this claim is a lie, and if a mixer lies about one thing, they can lie about other things.

or do not work reliably.
Funny, your Get started doesn't work Tongue

Quote
And yes, we had other mixing services on other chains before that looked the same.
Which ones? Your website, created last month, shows 2017. I see big claims without evidence.
6889  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Need 110$ PayPal f&f paying 110$ BTC or LTC on: August 27, 2022, 07:53:25 AM
You are putting yourself at risk by accepting PayPal
Many people don't know that Paypal "friends and family" is still risky if the sender used a stolen account. If that happens, you risk your own Paypal account too, because "f&f" is only meant to be used with people you trust.

6891  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Native lightning Bitcoin payments by card are faster than visa/mastercard on: August 27, 2022, 07:34:37 AM
just tapping a card.
~
all managed and controlled by only you.
I like the techonology, but I wouldn't want to use it for anything other than proof of concept. I don't use "tapping" for bank cards, and I wouldn't use it for Bitcoin LN either. You'll need to keep the pass in an RFID wallet to prevent people from stealing your funds just by being close. With banks, that's risky for the thief because there will be a paper trail, but with Bitcoin LN, there isn't much risk. You'll also have to trust the device doesn't take a higher amount than it shows on the screen. I prefer a wallet in which I have to confirm the amount on my own device, although I admit I don't think it's very likely a cafe in Gibraltar will use this to rip off their customers.

Faster payments is cool and all, but the 1-2 second difference is practically a nothingburger.
It's impressive to beat a system that's being used by billions of people. But how reliable is it? Most of my LN payments are indeed almost instantly, but sometimes it doesn't work and I don't know whether or not I paid for a long time. That would be annoying if you buy coffee.
6892  Other / Meta / Re: Any custom script to put note on user? on: August 27, 2022, 06:32:00 AM
There are a lot of custom scripts here to track/check many stats. But I'm looking for some custom script if available here so that instead of putting a neutral tag NOTE, I can add note for specific user and whenever I interact with that user, I will see that note. This may not help a lot users but it would be beneficial for me.
That was requested from BPIP Extension, but wasn't implemented. Then again, similar extensions exist already, but I don't dare to install them.

How about good old bookmarks? Create a "notes on users" Folder, bookmark the profile and Name it "This guy asked about keeping notes". When I visit your profile, there's a star in the address bar, and when I click it, I'm reminded you're the one who asked about keeping notes. You won't see it on posts, but you can easily find it back and it works on any site/browser without increased security risk.
6893  Economy / Economics / Re: More Americans Than Ever Can’t Afford to Pay Their Electric Bill on: August 27, 2022, 06:00:05 AM
Is it possible that rising electricity costs could fuel a trend towards mass adoption of renewable energy for residential use? As people seek alternatives due to grid energy being priced outside their budget? Is there a silver lining and positive note to this doom and gloom?
If I compare things to Europe, I don't think it's very likely. Energy has always been much cheaper in the US than in Europe, and that's why Americans consume more of it. The average American household consumes 10,715 kWh of electricity per year. In the Netherlands, that's 2,479 kWh. I expect similar numbers when it comes to fuel, cars here are much smaller (although they're getting bigger lately).
So the best thing to do, is reduce energy consumption. Insulate those houses. Solar panels are nice if you have space for it, but as long as grid energy is cheap, it won't be a viable option for the people who currently can't afford their bills.

Quote
As the cost of natural gas and petrol rise. Many have speculated it will create opportunities and accelerate adoption of alternatives to traditional fossil fuels which are superior. While much of europe is unsuitable for either wind or solar power. The same cannot be said of the united states. Maybe we have a chance for energy independence. Although, it doesn't seem as if many care about things like that.
One of the problems with the European "Green Deal" is that it focusses on the ideological side, and not on availability of energy. Here, we have a minister of "Energy and Climate". The combination of the 2 says it already, he studied Public Management and he's more of a minister of "Energy Reduction" than "Energy Security". Needless to say, that backfired big time with gas prices up 20-fold and electricity prices up 10-fold since he came to office. It's not even his fault, but I doubt he even understands where energy comes from, so he's not going to resolve it.

So from what I've seen: energy policies should be based on technology, not on ideology and especially not on "required innovation".

The 40 year old business man is unlike any other typical ruler you may know as he believes that Bitcoin is unlike any other subject and should be taught in schools as knowledge of the coin is quite important.
I think it's much better to teach fiat money in schools. Amazingly, barely anyone understands how the fiat money they work for is created. To quote Henry Ford:
Quote from: Henry Ford
It is well enough that people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning.
If people would truely understand fiat money, they'd use Bitcoin!

I would like to make a copy of the entire website with a handy little software called HTTrack which allows you to get pretty much a 1:1 mirror of a site. And you could keep updating the offline copy from time to time, kind of like keeping up with the blockchain as you sync.

My question is: Is it ok to do this? Im assuming theymos wouldn't care.
You're allowed one page load per second on average. That means it takes months to download everything, and it would take a long time to find edited posts to update them.

I just wouldn't like to wake up some day and see the site is gone for some reason.
If shit hits the fan, there's some funding that can be used to setup a new forum.

Based on LoyceV's information from two years ago, the required storage space for the entire bitcointalk forum is probably somewhere around 60GB, at the moment.
My archive directory is currently 146 GB. That includes some duplicate indices because I don't use a database.

Tokenomics is an acronym for Token + Economics.  So, this is a token or coin related idea.  You can think of Tokenomics as the economic environment of each project's token.  But this idea works against the regular economy of society which is usually controlled by government or bankers.  The crypto economy is completely regulated by code.  So, it means some terms like, "What is the token used for? What is the underlying protocol? Who receives the token as a reward? All the terms are based on the code of the project. Crypto projects basically create their own micro-economy system with their goal which is Tokenomics.  Also known as Tokenomics is very important for any crypto project to reveal its position.
