You get two additional addresses 3DnW8JGpPViEZdpqat8qky1zc26EKbXnmM (14 tx) and bc1qngw83fg8dz0k749cg7k3emc7v98wy0c74dlrkd (6 tx) from the compressed private key.
Thanks, I was too lazy to look those up.

Quote
I can't believe it to be a buggy wallet, I mean wouldn't it have been fixed by now.
I was thinking about people who create their own wallet implementation.

Quote
On the other hand I can't believe there are people out there who think the empty string "brain" wallet is a safe place to submit even the bare minimum of Satoshis allowed by the network. Absolute bonkers...
If I have to choose between people willingly throwing away their money, and people doing it accidentally, I pick the latter.

Quote
Seems to pay off. Just for fun I monitor a few of such publicly known private keys' addresses. It's crazy how often some of the popular ones get hits (vanitygen address example 1BoatSLRHtKNngkdXEeobR76b53LETtpyT (uncompressed: 932 tx), 1JwSSubhmg6iPtRjtyqhUYYH7bZg3Lfy1T (uncompressed SHA256("correct horse battery staple"), 4147 txs!) and 1HwWGwdzk5Ed7sMjpn9kadJQs5VEZ192wa, 22 tx).
What would it take to "white hat" this? Kinda like my (never implemented) Crazy idea for a community project: empty compromised paper wallets?

My crazy idea:
  • ~
  • Setup a system to sweep all keys the moment they get funded
  • Send funds/dust to an addy that leaves a hint to find this topic
  • Return the funds to the owner after signing a message from the original sending address

Step 2 is where I don't know how to do it (yet), but I do know there are brain wallet hunters out there who use a similar system to steal funds.
Step 4 is the tricky part: if for instance the funds come from an exchange, the owner won't be able to sign a message. But if I don't do this, the site owner will take the funds for sure so I consider this a white hat thing to do.
It's still a race to be the fastest.

Make you have sufficient resource to use VM which run Bitcoin Core.
The idea is to keep Bitcoin Core outside the VM.
6983  Economy / Reputation / Re: [self-moderated] Report unmerited good posts to Merit Source on: August 17, 2022, 12:02:49 PM
@LoyceV, I never know if you like getting more posts on local board
I don't mind local boards, but I can't read them. I've Merited this post of yours instead. Three reasons: 1. I'm loaded Tongue 2. You're not a shitposter Tongue 3. Even though I can't read most posts, you seem to Merit posts that deserve it.

I don't know if the logic of your reasoning is that if some of those posts instead of having 10 merits received have 20, people in your local board will pay more attention to them.
I assume he wants to "trickle down" sMerit, which is fine with me Smiley
6984  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Incoming connections disappear when I turn on VPN on: August 17, 2022, 10:41:43 AM
when I turn on VPN, including Bitcoin Core (I can't get incoming connections anymore).
Assuming you use a shared VPN, it won't forward the default port 8883 to your computer. Depending on your VPN provider, you may be able to forward that port (or set a different one). My favourite VPN has instructions for it.

Suggestion: if you want to use the VPN for only one specific application, can you run it in a VM?

Check this list[1]
Have you seen OP's post history? He spams the same useless post dozens of times. He wants to upgrade from bounty spammer to managing a network of bounty spammers. Not what this forum needs.

On topic: read Signature Campaign Guidelines (read this before starting or joining a campaign)!
6986  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Massively fraudulent Escrow Transaction! on: August 17, 2022, 06:37:54 AM
Here's my topic on Best practices for Bitcointalk escrow providers, with links to the case where $50k was scammed.

@OP: any chance you entered your password on a phishing site? Chances are you got a link by PM before your account got hacked.

This is what I would have expected:
  • Buyer and seller provide payment and shipping details to escrow.
  • If all agree on all terms, buyer pays escrow and seller sends product to escrow.
  • Escrow verifies product.
  • Escrow releases product and payment only if everything is okay.
Without this, escrow provides false security. It can go wrong on so many levels if one of the parties is an innocent Newbie and the other an advanced scammer.
6987  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Quick theft on: August 16, 2022, 08:30:20 PM
I am observing empty string brainwallet (empty string converted to BTC private key = WIF).
This is an interesting one. It produces 2 used addresses:
Uncompressed: 1HZwkjkeaoZfTSaJxDw6aKkxp45agDiEzN (Transaction count 717, Total received 59.99123751 BTC 38,217.82 USD)
Compressed: 1F3sAm6ZtwLAUnj7d38pGFxtP3RVEvtsbV (Transaction count 129, Total received 1.19590736 BTC 1,213.40 USD)

Quote
While ago someone has put on it 900 mBTC, which has disappeared quickly within minutes (or less, seconds).
Two days ago someone put ~21 mBTC on the same address.
I don't see the 21 mBTC.

This is a brain wallet.
I wouldn't even call it a brain wallet. My guess is some buggy wallet implementation causes people to send funds to an address derived from a private key created using nothing instead of random data.
I'm amazed how many people send funds to this address!

Quote
These individuals set up bots to monitor all these addresses, used and unused, and as soon as any coin is deposited immediately sweep it to their own wallet.
There must be fierce competition to be the first! They usually use very high transaction fees to steal funds.
6988  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitnodes cannot find my Bitcoin node on: August 16, 2022, 04:47:21 PM
But sharing same IP with two clients? I don't know if that can be really done... anybody knows it this could be done?
If the ISP is low on IPs, they could put you behind NAT. If that's the case, you'll have a local IP instead of your external IP in your router. Just Google "What is my IP".
6989  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mixers that mix bitcoin without letting it be obvious that it came from a mixer? on: August 16, 2022, 03:26:57 PM
I am not fond of mixing at all, it should be illegal
So asking change for the meter would become illegal too? It still amazes me how many people always ask for more government regulation and less freedom.

6990  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitnodes cannot find my Bitcoin node on: August 16, 2022, 03:15:34 PM
I have checked in https://bitnodes.io/ reachable nodes
I just checked mine: it sees it just fine (I've only been running a non-pruned full node for 5 days, and it uploaded 200 GB so far).

I don't know much from Windows, but from what I've seen, it's often the firewall that's the problem.
6991  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What happens if I send my BCH to BTC address? on: August 16, 2022, 03:01:34 PM
Create a (bitcoin) new wallet and transfer all your funds from the key (or master key) you want to import in another wallet to this new wallet because those keys could be compromised
I would label the address COMPROMISED: DO NOT USE AGAIN in my wallet.

Quote
Learn how to run a sandbox in order to download and install ElectronCash in it to import your private keys into.
Even better if you keep the Fork wallet offline, copy the raw transaction, and broadcast it from another system. That way you make sure the private key never touches the internet from a Fork wallet (but just in case: don't use it again anyway).

My current setup (which I haven't needed since I created it, but that's not the point....) for dealing with untrusted Fork wallets is this:
I've added this to my toolbox for my Fork Claiming Service: a space laptop with 2 Linux distributions installed in dual boot. The first is to work on, the second doesn't have internet and now has 5 partition images:
1. A fresh installation with VPN
2. A fresh installation with VPN and BCH full client, synced up to 2010, and set to prune. And BCH's Electrum Fork.
3. A fresh installation with VPN and BTG full client, synced up to 2010, and set to prune. And BTG's Electrum Fork (using wine).
4. A fresh installation with VPN and BCD full client, synced up to 2010, and set to prune. And BCD's Electrum Fork.
5. A fresh installation with VPN and eCash full client, synced up to 2010, and set to prune. And eCash'es Electrum Fork.
The laptop doesn't have enough disk space to keep all full clients.

This setup makes it much easier to handle Forkcoins: I restore the partition I need, boot into it, import the address/pubkey, and let it sync. When done, I take it offline, enter the private key, and create a raw transaction to transfer funds. After that, I boot into the second Linux distribution to overwrite the first partition. This makes offline signing relatively easy without ever risking the private key to untrusted software.

LoyceV, I used your website to find out those spammers. But, I also found a glitch and I guess you are already aware of it.
While seeing activity from this link, I found there is something wrong with Brand New Rank. Most of them are not Brand New accounts. Most of them are either Newbie or Jr. members.
I'm aware of this. It happens because I don't scrape the Rank (from their profile) on every update. I think I buffer about 10,000 profiles and scrape the oldest ones again when more accounts have posted.

Thanks to technology improvement (and my friend being and crypto algorithm genius) we have a wallet recovery tool that is immensly more effective than everything else. Some wallets that use to be lost forever can now be saved!
You know what they say: "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence". Until proven, I don't believe you're "immensely more effective".
6994  Other / Meta / Re: [CLUB] The SpamBusters! Busting rule-breakers constantly. on: August 16, 2022, 08:25:31 AM
Where to report such users?
I just reported the posts.

Quote
I think he talks about the time limit for the post report.
It's the same time limit.

Quote
I don't see the need for someone to write a post in a shorter period of 17 seconds, is it even possible without it being spam?
Yes. I take it you've never hit the limit? It's 4 seconds for you.
6995  Other / Meta / Re: The DT system needs to change. on: August 16, 2022, 07:52:08 AM
First of all, what exactly is the advantage of DT power?
The advantage is obvious: being able to improve the forum by sharing your view on who can or can't be trusted. If you're not on DT, it's often overlooked.

Quote
why so much drama about it?
That's obvious too: in any democracy, people disagree, and some abuse their power.

Quote
I'm thinking it can be interesting, maybe LoyceV could use the data he collects to recalculate what the trust system would look like with these changes. I believe that it is feasible if he would include a couple of conditions like a minimum 2 or 3 inclusion for DT1.
I did that already Smiley
6996  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: LoyceV's Beginners guide to correct use of the Trust system on: August 16, 2022, 07:12:32 AM

It's meant to check if your account is compromised: compromised accounts have been used to scam through PM, without changing the password so without drawing any attention to it being compromised.
See theymos' post about it.

I found a Brand New account Posting random words on bounty threads which is Spam. I know there are some threads to report Plagiarism and multiple account connections. But, I don't know where to report Spam.
It's futile Sad
I reported Skil7skil for doing the same. The posts I reported were deleted, many more are still there. If Mods don't ban obvious spammers like this, reporting them is just a waste of my time.

The Brand New account you mentioned (3491472) has 25 deleted posts in modlog:

His remaining 24 posts have the exact same post 22 times. The Altcoin/Bounty board is a lost cause.

While Reporting some posts, I get an error;

Quote
The last posting from your IP was less than 17 seconds ago. Please try again later. The thing you were trying to post was saved as a draft. This limit decreases substantially as your account becomes more established.

Is it possible to remove the limit?
You're already whitelisted, so all that's left is gaining Activity to reduce the posting limit.
6998  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: LoyceV's Beginners guide to correct use of the Trust system on: August 16, 2022, 06:45:02 AM
Well another thing would be to have them post under their own name like you seem to be suggesting Timelord, but I am thinking that if they are my agent(s), then they should post under a Nym that I am able to control and that clearly states the relationship.
If they can post from the account, you don't control it Wink
If they make their own account, you can leave neutral (or if you trust them even positive) feedback stating the relationship. If they quit, you remove (or update) the feedback.

Sharing accounts also means disclosing IP addresses of all users.

Quote
otherwise it is too ambiguous, too weird, and even likely to have backlash on me, too... and maybe even harder to keep track if there were to be multiple accounts (besides starting out with one)
I assume you'll need to keep track of your agents anyway. This way, at least you can distinguish who does what.

I am not sure if there might be backlash or confusion..
You can just leave neutral feedback in both directions: "LoyceMobile is my alt, don't deal with it, I use it on untrusted devices/locations. To reach me, talk to LoyceV only.". That confirms it's not just an imposter.
