701  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: DNotes 2.0 - Bridging the Gap Between the Centralized and Decentralized World on: September 08, 2017, 03:18:15 AM
I am curious as to what people expect of the price of DNotes as we run up to the swap to DNotes 2.0 later this month.

I anticipate that the rollout of DNotes 2.0 and all the PR that would accompany that would increase interest in DNotes and the price would go up. I actually expect a significant run-up, but I won't share my wildest speculations.

So, I would also expect that those who are already aware of DNotes would be buying before the swap in order to stock up before that run. That might also put some stress on the supply of DNotes available in Poloniex and the other exchanges, which could further move the price. Especially as they move their DNotes to the DNotes Vault to await the swap.

Just be clear here - I own some DNotes already in the Vault and I am trading in Poloniex a small amount, mostly just playing around based on my expectation of the price movements. (If I'm wrong about the price and/or I get stuck holding some DNotes at a trading loss it's not a problem, I'll just stick them in the Vault before the swap).

I understand that the DNotes insiders here might not publicly discuss price expectations, I can certainly appreciate that.

But I would be interested to hear anyone's thoughts on this.

My wife predicted it to be somewhere between $1.45 and $1.90 by year's end. I remember because she wrote it on a sticky note and stuck it on the wall in my office. Of course, she also predicts the outcome of college football games by carefully evaluating the team colors and the schools' chosen mascots.

So... grain of salt, and all that jazz.

Personally, I have confidence in the system she uses to analyze life - I just don't bank on her conclusions.

Your mileage may vary...

Now I can feel the pressure building. I am sure we will have a lot of happy stakeholders if we can meet her half way.

Ok, I'll play, here's my guess: 0.08 to 0.12 by September 30 and 0.21 to 0.39 by years end...

RJF - Thanks for playing along! I would consider those numbers even a little conservative for cryptoland, but I would expect that in this particular corner of the forum. I wouldn't be surprised to see that happen and I would, of course, be pleased.

Re: Proceed's FUDdery - All good responses above. I would add that it was the cautious and conservative DNotes approach that got my interest in it in the first place. This careful approach to investing, focus on saving, and developing underlying value in the currency are exactly what make DNotes different from other coins. That post didn't seem to take any of that into account. Almost as if he didn't really do any research at all.

TwoCorn, thank you for your support and confidence in DNotes. We are very committed to building a purposeful coin and a trusted brand. That will differentiate DNotes from other digital currencies and build long-term value for our stakeholders. In an increasingly crowded space of insane extremely, differentiation is critical to long term success. Eventually, the dust will always settle and very few will remain relevant. Our industry will be bigger in size and scope but the law of survival will remain the same.

We must remain true to our vision and mission – doing what is best for everyone and doing it the right way so that we can build a digital currency worthy of mass acceptance worldwide. Achieving that goal will give us massive scale and make DNotes quite valuable. I personally believe that we have a very good chance of making it happen; provided we don’t start skipping steps and take the short cut. It is always tempting, especially when we are pressed for time.

On balance, we are fortunate that our community has been extremely supportive and thoughtful in their blog posts. They are very much appreciated. We have set very high standards for ourselves and I am very proud to be a member of the team.

In response to "Proceed" there is no guaranteed pension plan. It is best to refer to a direct quote from DNotesVault below:

"CRISP for Retirement is an unstructured and self-directed plan, using DNotes as the investment vehicle to supplement retirement savings. Re-occurring savings, in any amount, may be added at any time. This savings plan can be started with any amount of DNotes by opening an account at DNotesVault with an expanded registration at the CRISP for Retirement landing page." http://dnotesvault.com/crisp-for-retirement.php

I want to know more about White Label. Do you have any partnerships programms?

Welcome to DNotes, smoorfie. We do not have a Whitelabel partnership program at this time. Because of the way DNotes is positioned, we do expect that many will want to partner with us as early as 2018. I am getting good indications from my rapidly growing LinkedIn connections.

If you feel strongly that you have something worthy of our consideration, please feel free to send me a personal message. We are always responsive and respectful. Thank you for your interest.

The things I like the most about POS:

1. It lowers the barrier to entry for getting a share of the newly minted currency. In Proof-Of-Work systems, miners spend a lot of money in electricity and expensive computer hardware to get the newly minted currency from the block reward. This means the existing supply is inflated, which slowly devalues the existing money supply, while miners frequently immediately sell their mined coins to pay for their fixed and variable costs in hardware / electricity, which puts downward pressure on the price at the exchanges. Investors that run a Proof-Of-Stake node cannot have the value of their holding slowly inflated away as it does in Proof-Of-Work systems, because their holding as a percentage of the total coin supply can not drop, and can in fact grow, from the share earned from other users that chose not to run a POS node.

POW = investors subject to inflation and downwards price pressure from miners, POS = Less downward price pressure, investors that run nodes not subject to inflation, and instead portfolio value grows. The more people that don't run a node, the larger the share of the block reward shared with investors that do run nodes.

2. The ease, profitability, and near-costless feature of running a Proof-Of-Stake node compared to Proof-Of-Work promotes decentralization and strengthens the security of the network.

Very well said, TeeGee. We are certain that DNotes has made the right decision to switch over from POW to POS. More importantly, we like to see that all of our long-term stakeholders are well rewarded with ease of participation. There are three different rewards amounting to about 8% per year: a) 2% for account balance paid every 30 days, b) 4% for account balance paid every 365 days, and 2% staking reward for participating stakeholders. Once fully implemented, DNotes will be very attractive for long-term savers and ideal for what CRISPs are meant to accomplish. We intent to heavily promote long-term savings for retirement, education, and other needs.

The challenge today for less tech-savvy stakeholders is that participating in POS staking network is often a struggle and very frustrating. We want to change that and make it real easy. Our team has been working hard on these and other features that will make DNotes 2.0 best positioned to accommodate our road-map going forward. There is a lot to be accomplished in a short time. I am getting early indications that our team will need more time. Target date for completion in software development is often difficult to predict since there are always unknowns and trade-offs. In any case, we should have a better reading in a week and I will give you further guidance as soon as I know.

It's also a good opportunity to get some discounted coins Smiley It is a good thing to have some form of regulations otherwise we have ICOs popping every hour. China being the first country to start working on this will be also the first country to launch regulated ICOs in the future. Hopefully other countries will follow once there is a working model that is successful.

Welcome to DNotes, veso86. It may take a little while for things to play out and settle down. This is a good time for portfolio adjustment. There are a lot of questionable projects/coins - so now is a good time to make some adjustments, especially if you can find your favorites at a bargain.

ICOs have gone wild. A few are getting very rich overnight at the expense of many. Reasonable regulations to ensure some consumers protection is healthy. Unfortunately, many law-makers are often ill-informed and reactive. I am concerned that this will lead to regulatory over-reach. I suspect that many other countries will follow China's lead. We always prefer to stay on the side of caution and take our time to do thing right, even if it takes longer to get there.

Happy Labor Day All

"Labor Day in the United States is a public holiday celebrated on the first Monday in September. It honors the American labor movement and the contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity, laws and well-being of the country. It is the Monday of the long weekend known as Labor Day Weekend and it is considered the unofficial end of summer in the United States. The holiday is also a federal holiday."

HAPPY LABOR DAY to all our friends and supporters in the USA!

Great work Brandon. The conference is an excellent opportunity for DNotes to gain exposure among the serious investor class. I am hoping they will record video of each of the speakers so we can watch on YouTube.

Hi TeeGee. Hope you are doing well. Thanks to Brandon, that was a good article. World Funding Summit is a worthy cause. I am getting to know them quite well and will do our best to support them.

The world of funding for start-up entrepreneurs and business owners has been changing rapidly. It is a great opportunity for DNotes and myself, personally, to start building a working relationship with some of the power players. I am looking forward to it and certainly like to have some of the activities in recorded videos.
710  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: DNotes 2.0 - Bridging the Gap Between the Centralized and Decentralized World on: September 04, 2017, 01:55:41 PM

Two interesting bits of news turned up on this thread, and they illustrate the incredible scope of cryptocurrency.

And

The first thing that most people think about when hearing about a new cryptocurrency seems to be: "What's its potential value?" The 6BankCoin may be pegged to a currency, but my guess is that it is not because of the complications it would raise. It is intended that this coin will be able to be exchanged for a range of fiat currencies.

Whereas the WhopperCoin seems to be pegged to the value of a Whopper. I was rather disappointed that it was not a 1 for 1 swap because that would have made the value appear very stable. Unfortunately Burger King has set a 1,700 WhopperCoin price on the hamburger. Even so, being able to exchange coins for something of real world value should add stability. I use the term value very loosely here.

The next thing that I wondered is if these coins were tradeable. Apparently the WhopperCoin will be. This is a very interesting spin on the reward system. I generally don't pay much attention to rewards, because I'm not a big enough consumer to accumulate enough to cash in. But if I can transfer my rewards to a friend, I'm going to see much more value in the system.

If 6BankCoin is tradeable that will make things very interesting indeed. Combining this with the fact that they want to exchange it for multiple fiat currencies makes it seem rather likely that the banks will also be considering operating an exchange. And as much as banks are despised and mistrusted, they are likely to increase consumer confidence in their exchange.

I also think that WhopperCoin could also have a strong social impact. By handing out a cryptocurrency to customers, Burger King provides a gateway for the general public to take an interest in, and start using a cryptocurrency. From there, it is much easier to add a few more to your portfolio.

So just two coins discussed here have the ability to increase the use and prevalence of cryptocurrencies. So as big as 2017 has been in cryptocurrency development, I'm sure it is just part of a much larger curve to come. As so well illustrated by the info-graphic that Chase posted for us.

Although we have all witnessed this unfold, it is pretty mind-blowing to see it in this infographic:
The Unparalleled Explosion in Cryptocurrencies  -  http://www.visualcapitalist.com/unparalleled-explosion-cryptocurrencies/

Thanks, Tim. That is a great way of looking at the WhooperCoin. Especially at this early stage, it is a great PR move, though I expect that many more will join in and have their own currency as a part of their loyalty program. The danger is that there will be a currency for everything - in the millions of coins. When things go too crazy - it doesn't end well. That is another reason for DNotes to go slow and build a solid trusted brand with great differentiation.

China bans companies from raising money through ICOs, asks local regulators to inspect 60 major platforms:

This is going to impact the crypto-coin market over the next few days (in negative ways). Watch out!

Thanks, SCeeYong. I read that too. ICOs as they are currently structured are of serious concern to regulators. They are good for the insiders but extremely risky for the average investors, with no consumer protections. ICO is great as an alternative funding tool when done side by side with legitimate crowdfunding. However it is much more difficult and expensive. None the less, that is what I support and believe will lead to. Meanwhile, those who can or dare continue to exploit ICOs to rake in a boat-load of quick monies. I agree with you "Watch out!"

Thanks, Chase. The growth is becoming explosive. And there will be plenty of opportunities for everyone. Just be careful. Statistically, 80% will fail within their first ten years of operations for a wide variety of reasons. There is no exception. Pick the winners early if you can and stick with them.
713  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: DNotes 2.0 - Bridging the Gap Between the Centralized and Decentralized World on: September 02, 2017, 02:51:30 PM

Thanks, SCeeYong. This is a confirmation that digital currency is here to stay. It is going to be very disruptive especially to banks and financial services. Obviously, bankers these days are very concerned and decided to join the game.

This will become a massive industry; nothing like what we have seen before. If the rate of business failures hold true 80% of them will fail in their first 10 years of existence.

DNotes is very strategic and will approach this cautiously from solid grounds. Not everyone may agree, but there will be plenty of opportunities and plenty of time to exploit them. We are the only one that is totally committed to building a trusted brand and meeting the full functions of money with the ultimate goal of gaining mass acceptance.

i would like to invest in dnote , It's fun to see how price can do x5 or more - yum !
What you are going to do for next some months .Do you have roadmap or something like that .Plan?
ok i found roadmap - are you going to open your own exchange ?

Welcome to DNotes, amalgal. Relative to our industry peers, DNotes is under-valued. But no one can say with certainty where the price will be in the future. What I can tell you is that we are well positioned to be a major player. We will ultimately have a fully integrated system as outlined in our road-map:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1924858.0

It will include a full-service exchange. The best guidance I can give at this point is that development on the project will begin towards the later part of 2018. We anticipate that it will take a significant investment in time and money to be in compliance with existing laws, licensing, and reporting requirements. We expect that it could take 1 ˝ to 2 years from start before it is officially launched.

The exchange is an integral part of our strategic plans. We believe that there is a great need for an exchange that is highly customer-focused. It will be consistent with our philosophy of building a trusted brand like DNotes.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to be of service to you. Feel free to let us know if there is anything else we can be of help.
719  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: DNotes 2.0 - Bridging the Gap Between the Centralized and Decentralized World on: September 01, 2017, 01:13:38 PM
It does appear to be a decentralized coin, and agreed, a mishap along with the unforgiving nature of cryptocurrency could be disastrous very quickly. I can see why they would be excited about it though, compared the long process of moving funds from clearing house to clearing house, and all of the middle men involved in the existing banking systems, this would be a significant time and cost savings. I just wonder what will happen when funds are stolen or lost, as happens all the time today, and if they have no means to reverse it.

That's a really interesting point you raise there about not being able to reverse transactions. When I was a teenager, with little over $40 in my account, one month I looked at my transaction history and noticed that for a couple of weeks there had been $600 in my account. This had been a mistaken transaction that was subsequently reversed.

I've known a few other people that have experienced similar things. And I suppose with the number of transactions being made every day, I shouldn't be surprised at a couple of mistakes. Had this happened on the blockchain, I would have been contacted and asked to make the payment back myself, which I would have done. But this is not as simple as just reversing an erroneous transaction, and coin addresses don't typically come with contact information.

Decentralisation means that things like reversing transactions are not possible. But this inability to take money out of my account without my permission also gives me confidence. I once called up a bank to make a transfer because their phone transfer system was failing. This was before online banking. The staff member made the transfer for me, which surprised me a lot, because only after it was done did I remind him that he hadn't asked me for my password and security questions. He was a little embarrassed at his breach of protocol. I was astounded that bank staff didn't actually require passwords to move money out of an account.

Thank you for sharing your personal experience. I thought I got quite rich a few times when my account balance shot way up, only to find out that my bank made a mistake crediting to the wrong account. Manual posting prone to human errors is far less of an issue today since machine has taken over. However, as ingenious and solid as blockchain technology is, there are extremely risks, including transactions that cannot be reversed once confirmed. The loss or compromised of a private key is also a grave concern, since the owner of the private is the owner of the wallet to send the funds out. Otherwise, the funds will remain in the wallet forever. Should this happen in large scale, it could be very damaging. Banks are known to make big mistakes, if I remember correctly.

We prefer to be cautious and try things out in a smaller scale or wait for the technology to be more matured. This industry is still in its infancy. There are immense opportunities ahead for those who can survive the test of time. We believe that DNotes is very well positioned and ready to scale rapidly at the right time.

It doesn't look like the government-issued cryptocurrency discussion is going to give us a break anytime soon.  Grin

More major banks have joined a global central banks project called Utility Settlement Coin (2015). There is certainly some murky water in this proposal.

"The platform aims to use virtual currencies that could be amplified by fiat currencies issued on the Blockchain."  Amplified? I'm not sure what the meaning is in this case, but the fact that amplified can mean to make a larger amount of something, is a bit of a red flag.

"The settlement coin will be a collateralized digital currency, backed by cash assets at a central bank, which allows us to transfer ownership easily through the exchange of USCs, thus reducing process complexity and the time taken for settlement."  -  What is the country/international bank in question including in cash assets? Government 'promise to pay' treasury bills? Short term loans they 'may' be able to collect in 30 days? An inflated balance from fractional reserve practises? And, once again, what's to stop the central bank of Venezuela or any other country, or any international bank in financial trouble, from claiming to have a lot more cash assets than they actually have and bloating the digital currency supply?

The scariest part of all is - what happens when a system like this has a security breach? Whether it is backed by cash or not, the fallout could be catastrophic.

Well, that has all the certainty of a Gordian Knot tied around an enigma. Yes, the chance for breach this early on in the tech is an unacceptable risk in my opinion. It's typical though, too much too soon. The Titanic comes to mind...

Thanks, RJF. I am in agreement with you and Chase, as she puts it, "The scariest part of all is - what happens when a system like this has a security breach? Whether it is backed by cash or not, the fallout could be catastrophic."

When things of such gargantuan scale are involved there can never be sufficient asset backed guarantee. A mishap could erode the value of their asset backing faster than a “New York Second”. The sad part is that they could still proceed out of fear and ignorance. And that could lead to even more people not trusting the bank any more.
