But whatever. This is offtopic anyways and we will see whether bitcoin will be destroyed by the gold gold gold idiots or if it excels because of its technical advantages.

Do anyone know why Bitstamp is more expensive than mtgox atm?
I believe there was some issue with fiat deposit that recently got solved. Could be a lot of money hitting the exchange all wanting to get in at once.

The first goal of bitcoin should be to be able to handle the same amount of transactions as visa.
And it is 1700 visa transactions vs 7 possible bitcoin transactions.
I don't understand why so many don't want to see that problem. Still high from the last ath?
Bitcoin is not gold.
Bitcoin is not gold, it's gold 2.0. The whole point of bitcoin is to have money that are decentralized so that government cannot control it. By increasing the blocksize limit too much you will lose that decentralization as the blockchain becomes hosted at few, centralized servers. We don't want such control point, therefore the limit must be increased in accordance to the technological development. We have plenty of time before we need bitcoin to do anything near the volume of VISA. And it certainly isn't the first goal. Bitcoin is first and foremost gold 2.0, and we can use it as a debt settlement mechanism.

Bitcoin gets exponentially more volatile over time until all numbers infinitely small towards 0 and infinitely large are exhausted and the universe impldes.

I agree that Bitcoin will become more volatile over time.

In absolute numbers, sure, in percentages, take a look at the last 2 bubbles.
+1

We'll be seeing $100 swings like it's nothing in the future, but % swings will be very low.

Bitcoin doesn't need to be a currency to be successful. It will in fact be wildly successful even if only functioning as a store of value, the tax havens amounts to trillions. The first phase is speculation and this is where we are now... people believe in bitcoins future potential and that is what drives the price up and the large market cap will make it viable for large fortunes to be stored in bitcoin, eventually it will stabilize at much higher prices. At that point it will work well as a way to settle debt even if we're not able to do as many transactions as other networks I don't think it matters. Micro-transactions can happen off-chain, big money stored safely away from government and bankers.

First of all, a store of value is not a highly volatile asset class. What makes you believe that Bitcoin will ever not be volatile?
Trade and speculation will decrease volatility, the more speculators we have the more people are trying to grab profit and their margins will decrease, leading to a more stable market. A large market cap is also a part of that.

How can big money be stored away safely if bitcoin is still tied to fiat currency? If fiat currency collapses, bitcoin no longer has anything to compare itself to, so how would we express value then? Using valuation in bitcoin itself? How would that work since there's a limited amount...
If bitcoin becomes the only currency left you will compare it with cars and houses, food and cloths.

The highly secure blockchain is the right medium for small transfers. You will have to have the possibility to buy every day stuff with your smartphone with bitcoin, or it will die. Period. Off-the-chain is the most stupid shit I heard the last weeks.
Everybody is talking about regulations, senate hearings, peeing their pants whether the Chinese will accept bitcoins or whatever. But the real thread are the users/speculators who think you have to have the whole blockchain in your pocket.
Bitcoin has the ultimate chance to replace visa etc..
7 Billion people with 1-5 transactions a day, that should be the goal of bitcoin.
If this is not going to be implemented the next months I will sell out and watch one of the greatest projects in our time die.

Guys, you heard it from [Date Registered: November 15, 2013, 01:22:48 PM], show's over. See you at the next Ponzi.
Yea, here I have been buying bitcoins since 2011 thinking it would be the future of money and then this guy appears out of no where and totally blows my mind and makes me realize that it's all over, it will die if it can't facilitate 7 billion people in the next months. Man, how things can change.

Somebody just put up a 2k wall at $600 on gox ... opportunity gone  Cheesy
710  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 20, 2013, 08:30:45 PM
stamp > gox by 20?  WTF?
What happened with all those people crying that they can't get money out of gox?
711  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 20, 2013, 08:23:20 PM
What a retarded dump. epic failed.

The dumps serve twofold purpose:
- Opportunity to sell many coins at reasonable prices
- Scare effect.

occam says dump = taking profits

We don't need fiat profits.

The ones who are interested in fiat do not have so many coins that they could make a dent in the price. As I told above, dump is either manipulative speculation (I) or nasty manipulative speculation (II).

Remember - manipulators are never out of coins.
Yes but it looks like most of them might have $ signs on atm. That looked more like minnows than a whale, maybe just another shakeout though.

The battle is during the next 24-48 hours. If we can force China to stay below 4000, even better <3000, and make a row of daily red candles in western exchanges, then this was officially a bubble, and a bear market will commence for the remainder of the year. The price is still so high, it is profitable to sell and buy back cheaper -

I invite you to join the BEARS!

Are you full of crap?
Nope, but he has unlimited money.

Currency of the future. My payment of xx:18 still has 0 confirmations at xx:51. Sorry I could not dump you sooner, my coins
This is why bitcoin might die soon. Because there are to many people who don't understand, that the value of bitcoin is based on the promise of fast and cheap transactions. They dream of some kind of electric gold and this will make bitcoin drop to zero.
If you can't pay your 3$ coffee without an 3$ fee, bitcoin is worth shit.
Should I sell my bitcoins  Huh Huh

I wonder if there are similarly hilarious bull quotes from me from the past. Too lazy to search. Get on it Kozi. Cheesy
I had a good laugh @ 1k prediction that bruce wagner was throwing around and increased to 10k during the 2011 rally. But with his strategy "buy now, never sell" you'd still be pretty well off today.
715  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 20, 2013, 05:52:04 PM
You actually went through the trouble of finding all those posts and putting them in quotes  Cheesy
I already quoted this before, just re-posted it. And I'm not mad at all, I think this is hilarious. Just posted for lulz.

My intention is to warn you guys to practice proper risk management because inevitably, even with a small investment, your Bitcoin allocation will be the main source of your wealth. Marginal utility of wealth dictates that it's more important to secure your first million than to make another.

I've seen it go down from 32 to 2 and it was a really bullish environment too until about 14. Don't fool yourself thinking it can't happen again today. That's just the nature of humans.

+1
I, for one, gotta say thanks for this comment, Blitz. I'm new to this forum but really appreciate your comments here-- I know that I certainly have ridiculously risky appetite, despite a fairly good knowledge (for a non-pro trader) of position sizing and risk allocation. Do I properly size my positions, do I use a trailing stop, do I take profits appropriately, and cut losses every time? Certainly, I feel like these are my weakest areas. Finding BTC is probably the hard part. Now that I'm here, I should really exert those controls and be patient.

Do you have any more suggestions on/about BTC risk management? (excuse me, as I haven't read back through the last 20 pps)

Cheers!
You're asking the right guy for advice.

Here's a few of his pretty good predictions back in july:

Goodbye, triple digits. See you 2015.

After this week, I'm not sure we will see triple digits in 2013 again.

This has never been a billion dollar market to begin with. Triple digit, billion, those are things of a faint past.

No more triple digits for 2013.

Noone buys the triple digit lie anymore.

Looks like MtGox is beginning to shake off its denial and join the ranks of the 80s. This is only the beginning.

What if the buyer is an established casino firm that wanted to get into the Bitcoin game? If that's the case, then they would've been accumulating beforehand and have been responsible for some of the buying pressure. This would now be gone, along with 350k coins released on the market.

I smell blood.

The crash from the eventual high is going to be epic.

LOL, some of the people here will still be holding their BTC when they look like the guy in the bottom half of that picture.

Bitcoin : You really can take it with you when you die.
I'll sell a few close to $1000  Wink
