Just a thought on masternode security: Is it reasonable to assume that any Amazon EC2 image will have built-in backdoors? I imagine a large percentage of masternodes are running on EC2 instances.

I was wondering if the EC2 free tier instances had good enough performance. The Ubunktu one says "Very low performance".

Is it enough ?

It was a lot that got sold but not 100m the total 24h volume has been around 50m and I think it usually is around 20-30m/day on average.

The buy wall was nearly 2 BTC the last couple of day. 1.98 I think. That's about 100 million. Maybe some of them got bought yesterday.

By the way, with all this talk of getting JPC onto exchanges, shouldn't we be getting on Coinwarz for a start ?

Are all you people miners ? Is that why you want to keep quiet about it ?

Entire 2-satoshi buywall just got sold into on Allcrypt. Think it was about 100 million JPC.

Not a bad bargain if you had an order in there.

Do not give in to these calls for open source

Agreed.

How do we compete against clones? Can they clone me? I work on this full time

LoL !!

Hit the nail on the head. People are more valuable than technology in this business. One's replaceable, the other isn't  Wink
7187  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 12, 2014, 12:29:56 PM
Good on him! I salute him for trying! But buyer beware...darksend could be smashed by NSA or hackers in a heartbeat. And even if Darkcoin and darksend is well received how will you compete with more marketable clones?

That's not the point ( at least as far as investing goes).

There will likely be plenty of 'anonymous' coins over the next few years deploying various technologies. The 'best' technology isn't necessarily the most valued in market terms. You only need to look at the current market to see that.

Bitcoin, Litecoin, Peercoin and the like all have successors which improved on their technological approach. However none of their valuations were ever dented once they acquired the pole position in their 'class'. One of reasons for that is that although technological improvements are progress 'under the bonnet', the end user doesn't notice a blind bit of difference. There are also other reasons - basically investment priorities that rank higher that technical prowess as long as the technical integrity of the coin meets at least a minimum level.

For me, it's not important that the coin have 'ultra' opaque characteristics that defy even the NSA. I value this technology for commercial reasons. i.e. for making easy, anonymous transactions that are not transparent to commercial competitors for whom that information might be valuable.

Not saying that the coins you mention aren't interesting, but their emergence is just another horse in the race. It takes a long time and a lot of hard work and co-operative participation to get things right AND make progress in the market at the same time.

Darkcoin is now at a relatively advanced stage in that process. Those other coins are not. Thats why it's having its valuation revised. The underlying technology is just a factor - one that will have some but limited say in the ultimate outcome.
7188  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 12, 2014, 12:03:42 PM
You're missing the point...
It's fine that you don't mind, that you are biased and this nasty little FACT doesn't bother you.

But how do you think this will play out in the media?

This coin is tainted, permanently. I'm glad that Evan is pushing the boundaries on technology, but darksend can not have any real traction until it is open sourced, and the moment that happens, several clones will pop up. They won't have dodgy names and branding like 'dark' coin, and they will have a zero premine, zero instamine, fair launch.

And how will they market themselves? As the privacy centric coin that is not a scam like that darkcoin.

Will it bother you then?

No, it won't bother me because I've though about all these things. A good deal more than you have apparently.
7189  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 12, 2014, 11:53:01 AM
12% of all the darkcoins that ever will be was instamined by Evan a couple of his friends on day 1.

What kind of dev launches a coin without a windows wallet?

I got into this coin because of the technology. Maybe you don't understand investments, but what matters about them is how much YOU own, not how much everyone else owns.

Thanks for advising is that the coin wasn't launched with a Windows wallet. That is about number 100 of my list of concerns right now but I appreciate it's pretty high up on yours.

So here's what I suggest you do - go back to the [ANN] archives and spend a week compiling a list of all the coins that were launched with Windows wallets and then go and plough some BTC into them. Might make you rich  Wink

Do you know that in the first 24hrs 2.2 million coins were mined?

How do you feel about that?

Great.

Because at most, that instamine, if true (and if it still exists undiluted, and if it's only purpose was to 'scam' holders as opposed to doing something constructive) can only dilute the money supply by up to a half, which pales compared with the potential return.
7191  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 12, 2014, 10:52:42 AM
See what I mean ?

The 4 hour MA has stayed wide to the upside. The EMA has just flipped wide after threatening to converge.

The 4hr MACD is now almost asymptotic with the signal line after the prospect of a fairly brisk puncture a day ago.

1 hr MACD histogram is still a bit bearish but converging all the same - maybe 12 to 24 hours away from a level off / turn around.

This doesn't look like an impending plummet to 50 to me. Looks more like people are sh*t scared of losing their coins and are clinging to them for dear life.

Just voted again Mintpal.

Lets you vote every hour. Get stuck in.

Nice Sellorder......20btc brought us from 600 to 580
I don't know how you all see it, but since Saturday I am expecting a big correction dip before we definitely go up. I wouldn't be surprised if we go back to 500-525

I've been expecting this as well.

But now I'm not so sure. The 4 hour chart has been crossing over in the last 12 hours. Usually when that happens at the end of a big rise you get huge dumping at the tops of the 5 minute waves.

But it's not happening. There have been some large cashouts but some humungous buy ins as well. I think there is currently very high demand and people are scared of loosing their coins. It's not your normal pump & dump scenario where people are trading on charts.

It appears to be a genuine long term revaluation. I was going to dump a load of coins last night because my 'pump & dump' bones were telling me it was about to crash back down to 55 or 50. Woke up this morning and it's still at 60.

If it does go down I don't think it will go down much. Also, since yesterday, the 4 hour MACD convergeance has narrowed. It's not as sharp a puncture as it was yesterday. It may just "glide on" and "glide back off" again.

The other problem with day trading at a coin like this is that there are hawks waiting for every dip. You think you're being clever by getting out at the top and then waiting for it to bottom again. But then what happens is on the way down, after a drop of just 2000 sats or something, a whale comes in and steals it from you. Before you know it your trying to get back in at a loss.

It's times like these where I think it's better to trade on fundamentals and simply take a decision if you want your coins long term or not.

Hodling.

Some HELP me please!   My wallet is not producing any stake! None, zero, zilch..

You need to:

[1] - make sure your wallet is unlocked. If it's locked it won't stake

[2] - leave it open for at least 24 hours to "activate" staking

[3] - leave it a further 24 hours before you get your first "stake"

[4] - after that, as long as the wallet is:

 - unlocked
 - connected to the internet (your energy saver didn't kick in in the night and loose you hours of staking)
 - already matured by at least 24 hours

....then it should stake every 24 hours after that. Sometimes a few times per day if your coin ages are staggered)

I think the same than you, but looking at the charts i see the floor at 50.

Yeah. 50% of the way up the last rise. Could well be.

Problem with this coin is that there's such a strong demand. I remember I set an order at 25 pr something during the last big drift down. I wasn't reading the charts obsessively but clearly someone else was and just as the 4 hour crossed over, that almighty buy went in that pushed the price straight to 39 in about half an hour.

Thats the kind of confidence traders have. Like that 128 BTC buy that just went in on Cryptsy. Crazy. So you can't rely on taking it to the edge.

Few dumps just about to come our way now I think.
7196  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 12, 2014, 12:02:25 AM
we will go down now...

I was considering dumping a bit. We are clearly at the top of something, but looking at the charts I'm not confident enough to dump and sleep on it (which I have to do in about 20 minutes LoL).

The first correction from the peak of 55 was massive - right down to 26.

Next it peaked at 44 and corrected down to 38.

Now it's peaked at 64. Given that it already corrected twice from the April 26th peak of 55 and that it's had a whole lot more publicity since then, I can't see it going much below that this time.

So I think I'll hang onto my coins, even though I see the 4 hour MACD histogram putting in a couple of solid bars towards the downside. Worst case IMHO a bounce off 50 and settle at 56 before the next rally. (As long as the market continues to make a favourable long term valuation and the devs don't f*ck up on anything).

Entire order was filled. Someone just bought a lot of darkcoins.

Sh*t. So it was.

I stand corrected. That was a fake buywall if ever I saw one except this time it wasn't  Huh

That's nearly $60k worth.

7198  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 11, 2014, 10:03:01 PM
thats a nice buywall at 0.006 of 124 btc... are the whales getting bigger or DRK more popular?

Buywalls are one of 2 things:

[1] - genuine, because someone wants in

or

[2] - fake, because someone wants out (and they need to push up the liquidity before dumping)

If all the bids above it are less than 1 BTC and all the bids below it are less then 1 BTC and there's no buywall whatsoever at 60 on Mintpal to match the one Cryptsy, which of the two categories above do you think a 128 BTC buywall falls into.

Buy the all time high with 128 BTC ?

Don't think so.

This wallet is a way better then wallets of the other coins that crash and have all kinds of

issues.

+1 Rock solid.

Guys, I don't get it.

What's the point of bitcoin if there's darkcoin?

You could say that about any coin that appeared post BTC.

Most of them have some kind of technological advance over Bitcoin.

The difference with Darkcoin is that it offers something new directly to the customer. All other alts basically work the same at the point of use - the technology differences are 'under the bonnet'.

Darkcoin actually offers a different property that directly affects its commercial viability - an opaque blockchain. What commercial entity operating in a competitive environment wants their bank statements publicly accessible to the whole wide world ?
