Hard Fork on Wednesday, May 14, 2014
What does this mean Huh

It means that there is a fundamental change to the system (the wallet) that makes it so that everyone must update for it to work.  If they do not update, then the wallet will create a "fork" in the blockchain.  One fork will be considered valid, the other not.  If you did not join with the majority of the wallets, any mining, selling, etc... you try to do would not work with the rest of the system.  In this way, the people have to agree to update/change their wallets, or else, a fork can never happen.  Therefore, unless a majority of the people want to change and to follow a developer down a road, they can stop it from happening.

So why is Darkcoin forking?

Darkcoin is forking because our developer has implemented a portion of the plan for this coin that everyone wants and has been waiting for.  He gave us 2 weeks warning and it is massively unlikely that any darkcoin wallet holders would not want to follow in implementing this change as it brings a feature that defines this coin closer to full implementation.  That feature is DarkSend, and this portion implements the paying of masternodes, which process the DarkSend transactions.

I hope that was a good explanation, but my mind is a bit muddled, LOL, and I'm not sure I did a good job  Shocked Lips sealed Tongue

The latest release of wallet and MNsupply will be working on RC2 or will new update come again?

Someone just dumped probably 50+ BTC on Cryptsy between .00585 and .0055. But there's a big buy order at .0059 on Mintpal. Expensive dump.

we will go down now...

I was considering dumping a bit. We are clearly at the top of something, but looking at the charts I'm not confident enough to dump and sleep on it (which I have to do in about 20 minutes LoL).

The first correction from the peak of 55 was massive - right down to 26.

Next it peaked at 44 and corrected down to 38.

Now it's peaked at 64. Given that it already corrected twice from the April 26th peak of 55 and that it's had a whole lot more publicity since then, I can't see it going much below that this time.

So I think I'll hang onto my coins, even though I see the 4 hour MACD histogram putting in a couple of solid bars towards the downside. Worst case IMHO a bounce off 50 and settle at 56 before the next rally. (As long as the market continues to make a favourable long term valuation and the devs don't f*ck up on anything).

Yeah. 50% of the way up the last rise. Could well be.

Problem with this coin is that there's such a strong demand. I remember I set an order at 25 pr something during the last big drift down. I wasn't reading the charts obsessively but clearly someone else was and just as the 4 hour crossed over, that almighty buy went in that pushed the price straight to 39 in about half an hour.

Thats the kind of confidence traders have. Like that 128 BTC buy that just went in on Cryptsy. Crazy. So you can't rely on taking it to the edge.

Few dumps just about to come our way now I think.

Neither me.
Someone who buy this amount will hold them and we have one dumper less thnx God.

we will go down now...

I don't think so  Grin

Entire order was filled. Someone just bought a lot of darkcoins.

Sh*t. So it was.

I stand corrected. That was a fake buywall if ever I saw one except this time it wasn't  Huh

That's nearly $60k worth.

When we talk about DarkCoin anything is possible... DRK is not an ordinary coin Wink

Someone just dumped probably 50+ BTC on Cryptsy between .00585 and .0055. But there's a big buy order at .0059 on Mintpal. Expensive dump.

Someone has been trying to push the price down today, first with a sell wall, then with many small sell orders, then with the eaten 120btc buy wall, and finally with a huge dump from .0059 to .0055 in crypsty (while there was that order in mintpal).

I would say the same person who had the buy wall sold his own DRK to himself and then dumped down to .0055 to cause panic and be able to buy cheaper, moving the price down to .0055 while mintpal was at .0059 was clearly intended.

I still can't figure this out and would appreciate any help: after the blockchain stopped syncing randomly (it was working for a while) I re-installed darkcoin-qt and all of my addresses except for one dissapeared, and with it hundreds of darkcoin. Anyone know what happened or how I can get them back? I had less than 10 addresses

Do you have a backup of the wallet from when you had that balance? Try listaddressgroupings in the console to look at the hidden addresses of the wallet.

Thank you for helping! I do have multiple backups. Listaddressgroupings is only showing my one address that is working properly and nothing else.

I have this sitting here, trying to think of what to say and how to help.  I guess a good question would be, can you remember when those coins first came into your wallet?  Was that one of the newer transactions or one of the older transactions?

This address that is working properly (XiPahZ3EhtvDhbF3hS6KwnqMu68vgFRcG9",
87.69900461) is old and has been receiving drk since 3/19 just fine and is still working fine, the rest of my addresses are gone. My large transfer to the wallet was recent, and I haven't ever sent any drk OUT of the wallet and none are showing as missing or transferred out.

Then the private keys for those other coins are just not in that wallet.dat, period.  Try with one of your other backups from when you had the coins, be careful not to mix up wallet.dat files, rename them appropriately and back them up.  Best of luck.

EDIT: Did you check the txid of the recent transfer on the blockchain? What does it say?

The latest release of wallet and MNsupply will be working on RC2 or will new update come again?

We have had to update our wallets due to bug fixes since May 1st, but it is still considered RC2.  We may have many updates (but at the moment only one fork) in the near future.  However, regular updates to the wallet should not be such a big deal and shouldn't be terribly time sensitive.

10 I wouldn't call here, 1000 I would say here but limited. Thanks for the answer.

Now, it I were a super hacker, can darksend be "cracked" in some way?

I know most of you that hold a bunch will just say whatever. But believe me, others that come to this community to research this coin want to know this too. Reading through the whole thread is not only time consuming, but it is much more informative to ask directly. Thanks again guys. Great coin!!!!

I'll stick my neck out on what we currently have, and say that cracking the privacy of a transaction would be very difficult if you use several layers of mixing.  I know Evan just came up with something new again, so Darkcoin may change a lot from this current iteration.  To crack a darksend transaction, you would have to have an incredible proportion of the network, and control so many masternodes that at 5 levels of mixing, you always retain control of the information.  You'd need way more than 50% of the masternodes, and if you were buying up coins for so many masternodes, the price would skyrocket.  I don't think I am explaining this very well, others have talked about this in the thread, but my tummy is full, and I'm about to fall asleep... sorry!

Thank you very much!!

Looks like Darkcoin is going nowhere but up!!

Im about to get a bunch!!

It really sounds to me like you may have an old backup there.  Though even an old backup should carry 100 addresses in reserve... but anyway, I'd do as suggested above and find any wallet.dat file you can, check them one at a time and mark them for what you found.  I sure hope you find your coins!! (fingers crossed!)

so with this hardfork approaching, do i just download the new wallet as of the 15th from the main darkcoin website, install and move my wallet file across?

also, i'm not a hardcore trader or anything so charts dont mean too much to me, what's looking like the current floor, somewhere around 0.0056/57 maybe?

i bought a few more at .0059 and have little btc left to buy any more now if it drops any further.

Download from here:
https://darkcointalk.org/threads/rc2-hard-fork-on-may-14th.357/page-4#post-3344

Your choices are:

Open Source, ready to compile, but without DarkSend.  Only knows the new rules for paying Masternodes.
pre-compiled (binaries) of the above
or pre-compiled binaries with DarkSend.

I just don't know if the official website has been updated yet?

On second thought, go here to Evan's last post, I don't know if that link above has the latest links!  He's been so busy, he may have forgotten!
