7201  Economy / Economics / Re: Money and happiness. on: June 16, 2021, 11:04:40 AM
Everyone surely knows at least a few people who can be considered rich, and they are always in a bad mood, frowning and looking like they are on the edge of their nerves. So money for me personally has never been and will never be a measure of happiness, because when I had little money and when I had a lot of it I didn’t behave differently nor did it affect my level of happiness.

As for the study linked in the OP, it is based exclusively on the US - so if someone feels happy with $75 000 in that country, I can say with certainty that someone else would feel very happy to be able to earn 10 times less during a year. This of course depends on the standard of living that every country has, but also on how people actually perceive happiness - and unfortunately nowadays it is increasingly through the acquisition of material goods that can never make a person completely happy.
7202  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BYBIT LOCKED 12 BTCS OF MINE, WHAT DO I DO? on: June 16, 2021, 10:38:32 AM
It's a classic trap that some crypto services have, because they say you don't need KYC - but on the other hand they reserve the right to ask you to identify yourself at any time. In this particular case, I think the reason is that you sent 12 BTC to your account, which is almost $500 000 - and I think it's almost impossible to be able to convert that amount anywhere without KYC.

Any crypto service that operates by law must implement such measures because of the law on money laundering and terrorist financing - because otherwise their license would be denied. If you want your BTC back, you have no choice but to make a KYC, and that shouldn't be a problem if you acquired the BTC legally and you pay taxes on it.
7203  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as a legal tender - The next ‘great filter’? on: June 16, 2021, 10:10:49 AM
I believe China and India are already investigating into an 'official' virtual currency.

You probably mean CBDC, and China has gone the furthest on the issue, with several major tests among the general population - so news like this shouldn't surprise anyone -> China’s Xiong’an New Area Begins Using Digital Yuan for Salary Payments

This is just the beginning, because sooner or later all countries will have their CBDC, but it is really nothing more than a digitized fiat and there can be nothing that can suppress Bitcoin as the first and only decentralized currency.

I think the chance of a huge negative reaction, like outlawing Bitcoin by some countries, is not that high, they could have done it years ago.

Of course, they could, but then as now they still think that Bitcoin is not too much of a threat - and realistically it is not if we take the number of current users and the value of all Bitcoins in circulation - especially if we compare it with the values of stock or gold markets. China has long shown its stance on this, now everyone is looking at the US and their reactions - and given their influence on most countries, any of their negative decisions would likely have multiple effects around the world.
7204  Economy / Speculation / Re: Don't know what to think on: June 15, 2021, 02:39:12 PM
I'm still thinking about that 4chan "leak" talking about a big move in the next period, even though we are approaching a double MA "death cross" on BTC chart.

I know what you're talking about, but I'm not sure if it's something that can be verified as true information or if someone fabricated the whole thing. It mentions a relatively quick return to levels above $60k, more precisely to reach the new ATH and $70k - but it is not specified when it could happen given that it has been almost a month since we have been on a downward trajectory - if we exclude what happened yesterday.

Even without someone posting insider information, I personally believe that this year is extremely bullish, but as always one should expect occasional corrections which are quite normal. All in all, the situation is not bad at all, because all possible FUD that was launched in the past month failed to bring down the price to less than $30k - which for some was obviously the goal.

We have another 6+ months until the end of the year, and I hope that as the end of the year approaches, things will flare up again Smiley
7205  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Anyone doing affiliate for hardware wallet on: June 15, 2021, 01:59:43 PM
I promoted Ledger for a long time on my website and sometimes on Twitter, but without much success because people still think $50 is too high price - so they opt for free solutions and invest that money in some coin/token. After the Ledger database hacking, I stopped these activities because it did not seem right to me to promote a company that behaves so carelessly according to the data of its users.

@Little Mouse, it's not bad to try to earn something and also educate others about the advantages that these devices offer compared to desktop or mobile wallets. Success depends on the purchasing power of your compatriots and how seriously they take investing in security.
7206  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoind sender proof on: June 15, 2021, 01:27:13 PM
Apu2014, maybe just to explain to you a little bit what Royse777 wrote, which means if you use an online/custodial crypto wallet you won't be able to sign a message proving that you are its real owner. What I know is that such an option was available at blockchain.com (I'm not sure if that's the case yet), but only for imported addresses with the remark that it will be enabled for all addresses in the future.

In other words, if the address you want to prove ownership of is part of a crypto service like Coinbase or Binance, then you won't be able to do it - it actually belongs to that service, and you just use it for your transaction.
7207  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Nano Ledger S iskustva on: June 15, 2021, 01:11:47 PM

7208  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as a legal tender - The next ‘great filter’? on: June 15, 2021, 12:46:09 PM
On a global level, El Salvador will be closely monitored by all other nations. The bigger economies will see this as an experiment in order to either adopt or shun bitcoin completely. It is both exciting and scary at the same time.

I can agree with you that El Salvador will be under a special magnifying glass when the BTC becomes legal tender (which will happen in about 90 days), and that the country will serve as an experiment and role model for all other countries that may have considered moving in the same direction. This country is not the only one that has a problem with the national currency (which it doesn't really have because it uses the US dollar), and if it turns out that Bitcoin can effectively serve as a currency, we can expect other countries to introduce BTC as a legal tender.

Countries like the US or GB and certainly China or India will never give up their currencies even in the way that they will add another currency as an alternative - because that would mean they think their currency is not good enough - but I don't think they will prevent other countries to experiment with Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency. As you say, perhaps this is an opportunity for small nations to become less dependent on others - and if there is little truth in rich countries wanting the progress of less advanced and poor countries, then let them try to do something for themselves.

if I'm not wrong Japan also legalized bitcoin, but it's still a drop in the ocean.

What Japan and Germany did a few years ago is not the same as what El Salvador did - it's something like "Bitcoin is legal in our country" compared to "Bitcoin as a legal tender - which would mean - everyone has to accept it as official currency". More about that can be read here.
7209  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live 2.29.0 - Windows Users on: June 15, 2021, 10:50:54 AM
Glad you're giving the warning about not entering your seed phrase, Lucius.  I'm not sure if there's any phishing attempts going on with this update, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if there were.  Unsuspecting newbies and those who just don't know better might fall for it.

I have not used my Ledger for a while. The Live will never ask any seed to enter. The seed is a one time use when we restore the wallet using the Ledger device.

Of course, the original Ledger Live will never ask the user to enter their seed, but every fake LL asks the user to do just that - because that is the main vector of the attack. Given that users are used to doing updates directly through the app, I believe that the number of phishing Ledger sites will now increase as hackers look for their opportunity - and what is perhaps even more dangerous is the fact that hackers have a huge database of Ledger users, this is just one good opportunity for all of them to start sending spam with fake Ledger links.
7210  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Ledger Live 2.29.0 - Windows Users on: June 15, 2021, 10:06:49 AM
The new version of Ledger Live (2.29.0) for Windows users this time cannot be downloaded via automatic update, and when you open Ledger Live and click on News (bell icon) you can see the explanation and the direct download link that leads to the official Ledger page.

It is important to emphasize that you should be careful not to download Ledger Live from any other source - and for those who want to further check the binary installation file before installation, they can do so by verifying it.

The most important thing is to never type your seed (24 words) anywhere - especially in Ledger Live (this is a sign that you have a fake version), and to always check several times that all data from Ledger Live is identical to what your hardware wallet screen shows.

7211  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I need merit. To make the announcement thread. on: June 15, 2021, 09:41:04 AM
I have been working Bounty Hunter for more than two years now through another profile of mine. Now I will work as a bounty manager through this profile.

I will ask you one completely legitimate question considering your statement - why did you leave your 2-year-old profile and start from scratch? If by any chance you got a perma-ban, it means that you are no longer allowed to open new profiles and write anywhere except in the Meta board.

Now the real thing is that I need to be ranked so that I can post photos.

Since I don't believe that you want anything more from this forum than profiting from bounty campaigns, listen to the advice you got - buy a cooper rank and you will be able to post photos, I think it's much easier than getting 1 merit - and with that you still need activity points - which means you have to be active on the forum.
7212  Economy / Speculation / Re: The calm before the storm? on: June 14, 2021, 02:41:41 PM
...it's time for the community to take action and buy and encourage people to buy Bitcoin, we have to prove to Elon that we can stand on our own.

Community is as strong as its weakest links, and weak hands are unfortunately always weak hands - which means that we cannot act as one mind or collective consciousness, as is the case with the fictional Borg collective. Difference and uniqueness between people is what makes us special. Another thing is very important, and that is that you never push people into risky investments - everyone should decide for themselves what to do with their money, because it is not pleasant to be responsible in case someone suffers a financial loss because of you.
7213  Economy / Speculation / Re: So what's causing the current rise? on: June 14, 2021, 02:12:38 PM
BTC went up %13 in one day, as you guys might know. I know what caused it to decline (our troll friend Elon). What's causing it to rise back up?

13% up or down is nothing we haven't seen very many times - that percentage used to be much higher on some occasions. People are always trying to find a reason why something happened in order to try to predict the market in the future - but in most cases the reasons are only discovered in the future or remain completely unknown.

What seems to me to be the reason for today's growth is the fact that the price has stabilized in the zone above $30 000 for a long time and that each time there was strong resistance in that zone - the market simply moved in the other direction, but now we need to see if it can keep that direction or will repeat tomorrow the same story we have been watching for the past month.

10k comments and 50k likes for a reply in less than 24 hours, and people are stills saying Musk is becoming irrelevant and his influence is fading away! We're living in the social media age, one fart by those so-called influencers and everything is upside down no matter what the reality is or what pure reason tells you it should happen.

EM may no longer enjoy the trust and respect of one part of the crypto community, but its number of followers is increasing every day, which means that its popularity continues to grow. If we go in the direction of conspiracy theories, who can say with certainty that he deliberately bring down the price to accumulate even more coins - and now indirectly gives signals that it is possible that he will change his mind.
7214  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: British Man Duped out of $282,000 in Brutal Crypto Scam on: June 14, 2021, 01:03:28 PM
The thieves tricked the man into allowing him to access his computer remotely. In this way, they used his personal information to get a loan.

How naive do you have to be to allow something like this? This is at the level of intelligence of a 5-year-old child who will do anything if we promise him sweets, no matter how dangerous and stupid it may seem. The title is completely wrong, there is no brutality here - this is a theft committed because the owner is a person who does not have common sense or the most basic things when it comes to a personal computer.

Next time, before going to the store, let him hand over his house and car keys to an unknown stranger for safekeeping - he will clean his house and make all the necessary repairs - all of course completely free Roll Eyes Apparently there are still adults who believe in fairy tales.
7215  Economy / Economics / Re: Xi Jinping Beats Crypto, Bitcoin Mine Closes on: June 14, 2021, 10:22:30 AM
Too much importance is attached to something that is not really detrimental to Bitcoin at all, because if the majority claims that China has too much influence on Bitcoin anyway and that in some provinces mining energy is obtained from coal-fired power plants - in that case shutting down such mining farms and their relocation outside China or in areas where there are hydropower sources can only have a positive effect.

China banned crypto trading a few years ago, but it also sent clear warnings to crypto miners that they would not tolerate their operations forever - some took it seriously and relocated, others would have to do so by force. I hope that things will work out so that China will no longer have as much influence on cryptocurrency markets - because we must understand that the decentralization promoted by Bitcoin will never be compatible with the communist system that rules that country.

In addition, news coming from China is often false or poorly translated, so we have a case where it was announced that Yunnan Province bans crypto mining - which later turned out to be fake news.

CORRECTION (June 11, 2021, 18:15 UTC): This article originally stated that Yunnan province ordered crypto miners to be shut down. The source for this claim appears to have been a counterfeit. Read more. The original article appears below.
7216  Other / Meta / Re: Is The Purpose of The Merit System Defeated? on: June 14, 2021, 10:01:44 AM
1. The newbies should be restricted to posting only in Beginners and Help Board.

Only this first suggestion would create big problems for the forum, as this board is just meant for beginners to ask some basic questions - but specific questions and discussions still need to take place in their assigned boards. I think that such a restriction would discourage many beginners, especially those who want to offer or seek a service. Even if your proposal were implemented, 90 days is simply too much to limit someone to just one board - and moderators are not the ones to decide who qualifies to be a member of the forum or share merits with them.

The Merit system is very well-thought-out and for me personally it has done a lot of positives for the forum, although there will always be those who will not approve of it for some of their own reasons.

2. The rate of plagiarism will reduce aswell.

Anyone who wants to plagiarize will do so anywhere on the forum, I don't think the B&H board would be an exception. The only thing that would make sense is to forgive beginners the first such offense - but that would again require some kind of record and a lot of work for the moderators who are not too many anyway.
7217  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tonga May Be The Next Nation To Adopt Bitcoin! Madness! on: June 14, 2021, 09:37:05 AM
Besides, he was a friend of Trump, mimicking a lot of his decisions so that's enough for the new democrat rule in the US to portray him as the enemy of the human race  Wink

I may be wrong, but as someone who looks at it from the other side of the world, it seems to me that all presidents in Central and South America are a bit like Trump. But it must be acknowledged that Bukele has the courage to make this move, especially if it will put him in an even more unfavorable situation when it comes to the new US administration.

On the other hand, perhaps the US has nothing against this experiment - it is still better to learn from the examples of others than to make mistakes that can negatively affect people and the whole economy. By that I mean all the risks that can be associated with Bitcoin, in addition to high volatility, anyone who pays using cryptocurrency should know the basics - otherwise there will be a lot of unpleasant surprises.
7218  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: And now the IMF comes in! on: June 12, 2021, 01:39:17 PM
Wake up people, the world as we know it has to change. People need to gain control again.

You start acting like a comedian with your statements that something has to change or happen - because when did ordinary people have control over anything in history? There have always been those who rule the broad masses, only their names have changed throughout history - kingdoms, empires, republics, unions and who knows what else - the minority has always found a way to rule over the majority.

If you want to change the world then you need a formula for how the world works without politicians, banks, police, the military or institutions like the IMF - and they all currently hold the reins in their hands and run the world tightly. In addition, you have an even bigger problem - most people do not want change, do not go to the elections, and are even less interested in demonstrations or any disobedience to the authorities.

In conclusion of all this, it seems that 90% of the people in the world are quite satisfied with 10% of the total wealth at their disposal.
7219  Economy / Economics / Re: Own a house or rent one? Quick survey! on: June 12, 2021, 01:19:20 PM
From my perspective, it is better to have your own real estate for life than to pay rent for the rest of your life and in the end leave nothing to your descendants. Of course, not everyone can afford to buy a house or an apartment, especially if they have a small monthly income and if their bank loans are unfavorable.

I think that people's attitude towards this issue also depends on the country they live in, because some people have a hard time deciding to leave their place of birth, while others are constantly looking for new opportunities and have no problem living in several different locations every year. Therefore, for some, owning a house is not an option at all, because I personally know some people who inherited their parents' houses and immediately sold them and still live in rented houses or apartments.
7220  Other / Archival / Re: What is an old bump? on: June 12, 2021, 12:29:50 PM
It would be logical that only the last bump was left after the reports, but in this particular case the moderator may have made a mistake or simply left one bump post regardless of the date. I don't see any doubt as to how things should be moderated about those who break the rule - except that those who keep repeating it are sanctioned with a temporary ban, because that's the only way for them to understand that there is a delete button and that there is a rule of 24 hours between bumps.
