Untill a communication manager has been appointed or even discussed i suggest we use post 2 (Instacash's post)
to provide us with up to date information about whats happening with forks and provide links to all updated
wallet (Windows & MAC & Linux) downloads with mention of version numbers of these wallets, dates and pref direct
download links circumventing the download section where we are still confronted with old version numbers.
Post 1 is too out of date, its causing more questions then answers these days. We can ask Eddufield to link post 1 to post 2
for download information and actual news.

Basicly this means delegating the wallet download part from developer to Instacash so the developer can focus solely on
fixing the masternode problems.

I have no idea if Instacash is willing to do this or if even someone was considering it .. but something needs to be done quickly
to provide actual up to date information about current status and which wallet version to download.

Thoughts ? suggestions ?

Can someone please remove "*** PLEASE UPDATE TO 0.4.8 OR 10.8.8 ***" from the website.

i just wanna thank everyone (including the trolls, paid or not) for keeping our alt forum in third place,
thanks to you all we are getting closer and closer to overtaking NXT with total views of posts.

Current position overview (outdated as i type most likely) :

Dogecoin : 1188573
NXT : 897766
Darkcoin : 628803

So lets not drive all the trolls away from here.. lets just embrace them as they provide a good service to Darkcoin.
The more visible we get to be in the Altcoin section .. the better.

maybe this is a good moment to update the download links  ? On the first post and on the official website ? to wallet update 0.9.4.8 ?
7294  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 25, 2014, 07:58:40 PM
its a little strange
the prize is not going through the roof after the masternodes are working... it is l 0.025
thats ok... but i ve thought there would be some more enthusiastic reaction...  Huh
may be tomorow?

could be that the market already reacted .. the last couple days we saw a sharp increase in price,
thats most likely due to the upcoming implementation of DarkSend. There are already +39 masternodes
up and running i believe from the testing fase ?

7295  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 25, 2014, 06:56:17 PM
I have a question about masternode voting I brought to IRC but it was not answered.

<dimesz> can no one answer this question? what is the voting that the block miner gets to do? it decides which masternode to use?
<eu-Robert> dimesz: google gave me this brief explanation https://darkcointalk.org/threads/darkcoin-update-masternode-requirements-masternode-payments.225/ @ "How will the payments work?"
<dimesz> yeah.. that's the post with such little information that it led me to ask my question in the first place
<dimesz> each block miner only votes for one masternode? so if 20 (pools) control 99% of the hash rate, then about 20 masternodes will get paid?
<dimesz> let me clarify, then by the end of a day, only 20 masternodes will have seen payments
<InternetApe> dimesz, every block a new masternode is selected,
<InternetApe> So even if there are 500 Masternodes they all should get at least one payment a day
<dimesz> but the person who mines the block gets to vote with 1/6 of the decision which masternode gets paid...
<dimesz> so what's to stop the top 20 pools from always voting for their own masternode to get the payment?
<dimesz> if it was in a random fashion, i get that all masternodes would get elected eventually and you can use the formula blockreward*.1*576 / masternodes, etc
<dimesz> but then it says here that the masternode that gets paid is voted on.. by miners.. which will be a pool 99.99% of the time..
<dimesz> why would a pool vote for a random masternode when they can all vote for their own masternode to get the payment
<InternetApe> There is no way for them to SET/HARDCODE who they vote for
<dimesz> ahhh ok.. that's the small bit of information i was looking for
<dimesz> because when you say "vote for" it seems like they have the power to decide
<curious_> dimesz even if they could, they would lose miners for messing with the coin just as pools that approach 51% lose miners. Not worth it for a higher share of the 10% masternodes get
<dimesz> InternetApe: from the wiki, it says "The aim of this mechanism is to make reliable payments to well-behaving masternodes."
<dimesz> if that statement's true, then some masternodes will get preference
<dimesz> in what way do they get this?

Too lazy to stylize so irc logs it is.. Here is all the information I have about it so far:
From Evan:
Quote
We're going to extend the blockchain by adding a voting system. Each block that is solved the miner will add the address of the masternode that he believes should get paid and increment a counter. Upon reaching six confirmations an extra transaction will be added to the block paying out that masternode and removing the vote. This means that to cheat the system you'll need 51% of the hashing power.

From wiki:
Quote
The aim of this mechanism is to make reliable payments to well-behaving masternodes. The alternative was to make the block payment to the last node which performed a DarkSend, however this would facilitate scripts in the nodes in which there would be a lot of bogus DarkSends just to increase one's chances to get the payment.

The main concern here is that a pool (statistically speaking, there are no miners and only pools..) gets some kind of say on which masternodes will get the payment. How much say do they get? It's important to clarify this point.

interesting post.. i was wondering how that voting worked.. good question in the end too.

question 2 : can someone explain the difference from IRC seeding in comparison with DNS seeding? i saw it merged in GitHub per 15 may 2014 (Enabled DNS seeding by default, added 1 DNS seed)
IRC seeding works by mint client connecting to an IRC channel, sees all online mint clients' addresses, and tries connecting to them randomly. Some peers may reject connections, etc. It takes a while to get an initial connection to the network (especially for new users)

DNS seeding works by mint client resolving a DNS address. DNS query returns a list of 15-20 "best" IP addresses to connect to. Client connects to any of them and it succeeds.

There is a DNS seeder that is running and traversing network all the time. It keeps track of which nodes have the best uptime, their blockchain position, etc. When anyone queries the seeder, it returns a random list of best nodes it knows about.

thanks for your reply.

so when will we get Release Candidate 3 ? Or is that only necessary for the masternode users under us ?

it had 6 (you can see that one block earlier) and when it got paid its votes got removed.

ahh.. that explains it.. thanks
