I like your optimism in ordering ~10 S7 or ~20K worth in one "gulp".
Apart from it being a business, i don't see the need.
I can always buy the coin and for fun 1,2 machines are just fine.
7302  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: October 28, 2015, 07:08:58 PM
Thanks for all the replys that i have.

I read here that there was a problem with the internet going down.
I think that was the problem yesterday...

Since 8.00 AM from today, the miner is working as a bad ass with no worries at all.
I did not see wha was the firmware version, but i'll pass my eye on it.

It was posted that if the internet goes down it could over heat the miner due to the fans dropping down and the miner still hashing away. After reading that I now have a Delta fane about 3 inches in front of the intake fan blowing air into it as my internet provider is crap.

yes, and two other things fix the problem as well:
a. setting manual % for fan (in my experince 80% results in exactly the same fan speed as not setting anything at all). i have confirmed others observations that it results in fan continuously blowing at high speed EVEN when internet goes down.
b. update the software (someone had posted that it resulted in the same effect as #a)

however, having an outside fan is a good idea anyway.

1. a good hub for this stick or maybe two.
I use this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JEVRXQA

I think there is a hub discussion in this thread, but you'd have to go through the posts to find it.  Or it could be in one of the following 2 threads:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1126705.0
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=995675.0

2. point to a link (btctalk) that explains what needs to be done to run it.
You are in said thread.  Check the first post.

Do you have any specific questions?  Much easier to help if we know where your issues are.

fantastic, thanks
i don't have any issues yet, but i like to be prepared beforehand.
also, maybe I should use it as an opportunity to learn more about debian or linux-we shall see.

Shocked Does anyone have any information as to WHAT IS NEXT? Shocked

Is there going to be another type of Antminer or are they just catching up on current orders?

Bitmain is releasing a miner next week that will make the S7 obsolete. Its based on a 5.75nm process, 250TH/s in the same footprint as the S1/S3/S5/S7 ... and only uses 50watts at the wall....

alien technology, man, straight from KIC 8462852 (what do you think is blocking that starlight-kiccoin mining operation)  Tongue
7305  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: October 28, 2015, 06:40:55 PM
I know that information is probably here somewhere, but can someone recommend:
1. a good hub for this stick or maybe two.
2. point to a link (btctalk) that explains what needs to be done to run it. I have both Macs and Pc (win eight), but would prefer running it on a mac, but if it is easier on win8, I would do that instead.
the word zadig does not ring any bells.

maybe it is too much to ask, but...
thanks
7306  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: rumors of 3.5Th antminer S7 "lite" on: October 28, 2015, 06:20:02 PM
Ooooh this would be awesome!!!!

$1000 might still be out of the price range :S, Sad, but who knows maybe not when I get bonous.
I hope it is at 1000$ and not more, I would be pretty psyched about that.

If the S6 number of $1300 for 3.65 TH is correct, $1000 likely won't be in the cards. Unless of course Bitmain has "too many S7" sitting around (highly unlikely IMHO).
Hmm, well avalon 6 is more or less releasing on the 10th of November with that exact price, maybe Bitmain will try to undercut them.

the quoted price is from the reseller, which tends to be higher, besides, avalon always tried to maintain a premium-see 4.1 prices.
we shall see.
So we should expect the S7 lite lower in price than the avalon which is 3.65th/s for 1300$.

I would hope so, and I also have hopes for a nice coupon for those who ordered b2/b3 late (say, after 10/15) IF they would decrease per Th price substantially for S7 lite.

I'm still looking for a SP20 controller ... Spon is charging like 150$ + shipping for one... not an option for now.

yeah, maybe just selling as dead miner would be more economical, especially when btc is rising.
someone with extra controller might just go for it (sorry, not me-i am sold out of SP20).
7308  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: October 28, 2015, 06:04:23 PM
OK, another stupid question from someone who is getting his S7 delivered tomorrow.  Since I will be using separate power supplies for the hash boards, is there any concern about overheating while turning them on one at a time with the control board psu being the last one to turn on?

I'm just curious since the worry about 'internet connection' issues and fans not cooling, when they're initially powered up is that any concern?

not a concern re overheating initially as it would take it a minute or so to situate itself on your network and then hashing will build up slowly (don't expect it to jump to 4.86 in a few seconds). Wait at least 1 hr before reaching any conclusion where your miner is operating as far as speed is concerned and if high errors are seen, try soft reboot in gui (I believe that it is in system pane).

Here is the difference between stock firmware and oct 23 600 firmware running 15 s7's against nicehash.
If you look at the start on the left for about an inch that is the stock firmware running.
After that all oct 23 firmware. The downward spikes are rebooting on my end for naming configuration.
Two more s7's from oct 12 order will arrive tomorrow.

not familiar with their interface.
what's green and what's blue? are we comparing first inch of green with the rest of the green or first inch of blue with the rest of blue?
First inch of blue histogram with the rest.

sorry, but first inch of blue is essentially at zero-so, it did not work with previous software, but works with current or you are talking about a second inch compared with the rest. i see some increase there (maybe 5% or so).

7312  Economy / Speculation / Re: We are in green 6 weeks in a row first time in 2 years on: October 28, 2015, 01:46:06 PM
I put myself in the group of "slow and steady growth".  The reason I say that is because volatility is great for traders, but the average Joe wondering where to park his money needs confidence in some kind of stability on annual returns, and they are also the majority of the population.  $2-3 gains per day would be fantastic imho.

$2-3 a day is NOT slow and steady, it is 133-361% a year.
It is hardly slow.

I just received a shipping notice from UPS for delivery tomorrow for an order from 10/18; although, it is still showing Unshipped in Bitmain.    Cheesy  I still have more orders on 10/24 and 10/25.

was it b2 or b3? it would be helpful to know.
my 10/16 b2 order is still nowhere to be seen.

Why did they make batch 2 available anyway if they don't deliver it at least on par with b3, without even considering that one might expect b2 to be delivered BEFORE b3 as the common logic suggests.

I believe jtoomim has contacted SPT regarding a GB - I had email contact with them a while ago regarding this, but there has been no movement thus far. Maybe if you contact jtoomim & express your interest it will help get things going?  Smiley

Man I wish I has a spare $30-40k laying around.  Is it just me or do most people have to think about buying shares of a SP50 vs buying a whole SP50 for their private use?

maybe in a few years we will hear a story of a guy who either motrgaged his house of took a loan to get either a few of these babies or straight coins.
one can get 100 btc for $30K. This is a huge number going forward, considering halving, etc.

That would make a great story and I know we all here hope that BTC skyrockets too.  I'd never have the balls to do something like that though.

there was a guy on btctalk or reddit who used all of his credit card limits in january 2013 to buy $20k or 30K worth of btc (the price was $13 or something like this)-an insane move in most circumstances. It is usually common sense not to do it. However, sometimes a person could get very lucky.
I don't think that he waited until $1000. If i remember right, he sold most of them around 120-130. Still, good timing overall.

If luck were measured with ignorance to stale blocks (which they are not on Eligius), then it should average 100% over the long run (which may be several years). Once stale blocks are excluded, 100% long-term-average becomes impossible.

OK, what is the most realistic number  after a year: 98, 99%?
Alternatively, is 92-94% after a year low or as expected?
7317  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [14000Th] Eligius: 0% Fee BTC, 105% PPS NMC, No registration, CPPSRB on: October 28, 2015, 02:14:09 AM
color me confused.
On one hand OP says that it is all bad luck, like once in 20 years bad, which in itself is problematic in my opinion as it is less likely to happen.
On the the other hand, OP introduced a possibility of hardware/software shenanigans from outside the pool, presumably by manufacturer(s).
So, is it purely bad luck, shenanigans or a combination thereof?

I was under impression that after a year or so luck should be close to 100%.
Well, I've got slightly less than 92% on one account and 94% on another account (that got disconnected before the recent calamity) to show while hashing to eligius for >12mo, not a couple of hours or five days.
I am not complaining, but would like to understand the process a bit better.

For those wondering if the firmware fixes the issue with not having internet access potentially frying a s7, I can confirm it. My father-in-law was watching my kids today and was having issues with the wireless on one of my Roku boxes. He arbitrarily started setting static ip addresses and knocked two of my seven s7's offline about five hours ago. Both had the new firmware luckily, but one of my seven did not. I killed the port on the juniper switch with the one that had the old firmware and the fan crawled to an idle, so I can confirm beyond a reasonable doubt that the new firmware keeps the fan at a very high idle if there is no internet connection.

I asked him what time he messed with the addresses on the Roku and it was five hours ago. On both of the ones he knocked off before finding a non-reserved IP they were both beeping very loudly, but the fans were spinning at a high rpm. During my test on the one with the old firmware the fan was barely spinning, so for the father-in-law variable the last one is updated now. Hard resetting them both allowed them to recover, luckily I am anal and log dhcp assignment and errors to syslog. It only took me a little while to figure out that he picked addresses that were in my reserved dhcp exclusion range.....

Neither auto-reconnected, which I find to be an interesting design flaw or bug.

Sigh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ufo

Thanks for the information, Sir.  Much appreciated!  Glad I updated to new firmware then.  Can keep fan on auto and not worry if internet goes out a while.  I normally don't do firmware updates but I think this one is worth it.

The people that hard code their fan settings low on purpose on the original firmware may be in for a nasty surprise. :/

Ufo

what surprise? i don't see ANY fan speed difference whether you put nothing, 90, 80 or 70 in that % field.
The difference comes below 65%. i might update the firmware, but someone here bricked the miner by doing so. Why risk it if all it does is make the fans turn and putting 80% in % window does exactly the same thing.
7319  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: October 27, 2015, 11:57:16 PM
Back to topic.  My batch 2 comes tomorrow.

Orders on 2 and 3 are done.

so if you ordered on the 21st of oct or later have you received shipping info?

no shipping on Oct 16 B2 order
no shipping on B2 oct 22 order
I am starting to slowly getting wound up about it.

I missed most of the day today because of stupid comcast blackout, so maybe it was discussed at length already, but here are my 2satoshis about internet disconnect issue:

1. I confirm that manual setting of fan alleviate the internet disconnect problem as fan stayed up during the disconnect. Incidentally, If you don't have this data yet, any setting between 90 and 65% gave me exactly the same fan speed, which is weird, i know. So, i set it up at 80% arbitrarily as I don't care about sound due to my igloo-like S7 isolation.
2. during disconnect miner was beeping, but fan was at the same speed.
3. I kept miner powered and took measurements as soon as it was reachable. Board temp were in the 40-44C-fully safe (normally they run at 54-55 for me)
Cheers
7320  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: October 27, 2015, 01:38:22 AM
This hash board burning instance if the internet fails.

What is happening? Do the fans shut down when the internet is no longer sensed? If that is the case, it would not be hard to add a separate fan controller to keep the fans push/pulling air across the boards as a safety precaution while or if they ( Bitmain ) even bothers to provide a fix.

I suspect if it is happening it is something hard to replicate.  I never could replicate on my S5, but some had the issue and was a pain for them.  On S5 I even without internet a few times never had a big issue.

On S7 it is kinda scary to hear people mention this problem.  I'm hoping it's a very small subset of machines.

probably large enough for their customer service/engineer guy to post it here
