7321  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BitCoin Wallet on: May 29, 2015, 03:29:57 AM
Well blockchain wallet is pretty secure you can use it for sure without testing it, and if you do insist faucetbox can get you some btc for test in just a day using it.
Hope it helps.
Blockchain wallet is secure to a certain extent. Even though it has been proven that the private keys aren't stored on the server unprotected, this only prevents your wallets from outsiders attacks. They can still modify the code to capture your wallet password without your permission. For example, a vulnerability happened a few months ago which affected the RNGs of the wallets and thus generated unsecured private keys. The best client is still an open sourced desktop client.
7322  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How safe is bitcoin address? on: May 29, 2015, 03:27:39 AM
Nobody can't spend from *your* Bitcoin address *without your* permission. However, if the signature in transaction has low randomness, your private key can be leaked and thus, can spend your Bitcoin. The chances for happening this are very low. It happens mainly when using a buggy client and maybe when using Android too.

@OP: I highly recommend not to use Coinbase. It is not a secure wallet. I advice you to use a desktop wallet such as Multibit, Bither and Electrum.
The android security vulnerability happened a long time ago. It was due to a design flaw that directly affected the randomness of transaction ID, not the private key. Android is still secure enough for daily usage since they have fixed it and this could have happened to any client.
Hello. How safe is it to input a bitcoin address into a site eg to receive bitcoins you need to give your bitcoin address. Can anyone then empty your account with this address? I use Coinbase address.
Thanks in advance.

Another good thing to do would be to invest in a Trezor hardware wallet.  They are considered to be incredibly secure.   They are around $100, so it just depends on how much BTC you have if it would be worth it to you or not.
I agree to that. However, you can also use a offline computer like a raspberry pi and install electrum in it. You can transfer info from an online computer to the offline one and sign the transaction there then broadcast it on the online computer. The best part is, it cost much less than a trezor wallet.
7323  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to earn by mining? on: May 29, 2015, 03:10:49 AM
I am newbie in bitcoin marketplace. Last one months I try to earn bitcoin by solving captcha. But the amount is too minimum.
I have found that bitcoin mining is good way to earn btc more. How do I do?
I am looking for complete mining guideline. How I find?

BTC mining could be an effective way to earn more BTC only if you get very cheap electricity and low tax rates. I suggest you to give a look to difficulty rate here and to run a few simulation here before investing in BTC-miners. You could find mining help & guides in this forum Mining board & child boards (Mining support, Pools, Mining software (miners), Hardware, Mining speculation).
Low electrical rates and taxation doesn't directly assures profit. Mining are usually much less profitable than purchasing Bitcoins since the possibility of hardware failure, sudden difficulty increase is high. RMAing a machine is pretty costly since you have to pay for the postage and the repair may take up to several weeks. The time will decrease the profitability. If a manufacturer decides to release hundreds of hardware suddenly, the difficulty can potentially increase by a magnitude. The cost of hardware is also quite an important factor in profitability too!
7324  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: Can you actually make a profit owning a faucet? on: May 29, 2015, 03:04:06 AM
Owning a faucet is pretty much like owning a casino. The profits is largely based on the quality of visitors visiting your website. For example, impressions from certain countries have much lower rate. Some advertisers may also be looking at your visitor's time spent on page. There are a lot of faucets on the web right now. To stay competitive, your faucet should have new features and higher payouts. All of these requires funds and needless to say you have to pay for web hosting. Most newbies would be interested in posting in the forum for more amount of money.
7325  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Cost of Bitcointalk Accounts. on: May 20, 2015, 03:37:42 PM
0.5 bitcoin at the current price is nowhere near good enough for a hero member account.
The man hours & time put into becoming a hero member should be worth at least 1 bitcoin imo.
It's taken me 8 months to become a senior member so presumably it takes 16 months to become a hero member, 0.5 bitcoin is nowhere near enough.
It depends on the demand. The truth is, most people just want to join a high paying signature campaign or just to look good. You can have several accounts and hero members can be farmed fairly easily. Most hero members has spammy posts thus the price would be lower. There are little difference in signature campaign's pay for hero member and sr member so I presume most would purchase Sr members.
7326  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Block chain size/storage and slow downloads for new users on: May 20, 2015, 02:26:20 PM
well, you don't transfer more than 60Go per day to "think" that SSD have constant speed.
it's wrong.

after 9-12Go, SSD speed decrease like hell when you don't have fan behind (temperature restriction).
You can't really transfer 60GB per day without having to connect to thousands of nodes and uploading loads of data. For every computer, there should be at least one fan, case fan, CPU fan, PSU fan or GPU fan without them, it would be fried long ago. Do you have any realistic data to prove your point?
7327  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Block chain size/storage and slow downloads for new users on: May 20, 2015, 11:55:16 AM
who purchases magnetic hard drive on this ... year ?
SSD 512Go is a commun article on 2015 !

but, i admit that it requires some cooling feature to stay at 164Mo/s ... when magnetic hard drive can transfer at 95Mo/s from the begin to the end of the total capacity without any cooling system.
SSD are still relatively more expensive than normal magnetic hard drives. A HDD consist of a platter and a spinning head. It can be much more slower than SSD which consist of only chips. Those chips are much faster than spinning drives hence the speed.
7328  Other / Meta / Re: Increasing my activity without waiting for 2 weeks on: May 20, 2015, 11:24:53 AM
I have seen people selling accounts with title "Potential xxxx Account".
I even have heard some people actually having their activity increased in one go, don't know how that happens, I mean how those accounts have such potential to easily gain that activity with a few posts.
Potential activity= the amount of activity accumulated after several active 2 weeks period. For a 2 week period to be considered as active, 1 post is needed. Hence, only a few is required to accumulate a lot of unredeemed activity points. If you look closely at those accounts, the post are spaced average 2 weeks apart.
7329  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to create my own cloud mining service on: May 20, 2015, 09:50:07 AM
You would either need an investor to back you, or a huge wad of cash yourself that you can invest.  I hear that Bitmain is coming out with the s6 soon, and that may chage the game a little bit by offering increased efficiency or cheaper used equipment.

There is no good source that say's S6 will be "soon".  We still don't know when it will be.

Right now the S4+ is their newest gear that is being sold

True, but my point was more that its very risky to start a farm, there are so many things that can cut into profits.  Its highly unpredictable.

Not always true.  Some farms host others gear so little risk on that.  Lots of hosting in China especially now.   Some in Washington state in us.  Or other states.

But a lot of farms host others gear to bring in a steady profit and they then mine as well.
Less risk on the providers but more risk on users. The owner can easily run away with the gears. It is worth noting that maintenance fees are high and land space. If one is truly interested in mining for profit, they would probably have purchased their own space. Maintenance fees alone should be enough to cut the money saved on electrical fees.
7330  Other / Meta / Re: Increasing my activity without waiting for 2 weeks on: May 20, 2015, 09:41:39 AM
No you can't, the rule is always simple, two weeks, 14 activity point max.
After 1 month you will be a Jr member then you can post freely without 360s limit.
Just to add on to this. Once you register, 14 activity is available to be claimed. You would still need to wait <1 month to become Jr member since the activity required is 30. Other than that, activity doesn't start when you register. It has a time schedule, more info: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=582736.0. I was lucky to register a few days before activity increase so I didn't need to wait too much. There is still a limit even at Full member but rank higher than Jr member should have negligible limits, based on an estimation of time required to construct constructive posts.
7331  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How i make full node on latest rasberry or C.H.I.P? on: May 20, 2015, 09:32:27 AM
Others have made a full node w rasp pi, you need a large memory cart. Also the read/ write speed can be an issue from what i read but i never did it myself
Memory can be increased by using swap but it would just cause extra load on the SDcard and it isn't as fast as the on-board memory. I/O speeds isn't a huge issue after going through initial synchronization. Read and write speeds isn't as important as potential bottlenecks in your internet.
Most of people will not install the full node when the block size increased.

Considering the hard disk price is getting cheaper, that isn't much of an excuse. Most modern computers could easily have 1TB of HDD since they are fairly cheap. However, the network would need more high speed diversed nodes than low uptime nodes.
7332  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin core with wallet on fried harddrive on: May 17, 2015, 04:10:09 PM
I think your old wallet.dat backup has the key to your new address. I read it on here that bitcoin core do not create new addresses when you request them. They are picked from a pre generated list in your wallet.dat, so your old backup may have the key to your new address even though it is a backup. Use pywallet to look inside your wallet file.
Half correct. Bitcoin core pregenerates 100 address for use when the user clicks to get new address. After 100 address, a new set of addresses would be created. [Correction: After each key is generated by user and user interacts with the wallet.dat, the wallet pregenerates one more key to maintain 100 key in keypool. (Thanks shorena for correcting!)] You would then have to rebackup it. HD wallets eliminates this limitation.

Data from hard disk failures can be restored but they certainly don't have 100%. My advice is that you can bring it for a quote and if it's too expensive or impossible to recover, consider it as an expensive lesson.
7333  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: who gets the bitcoin tranaction fees on: May 16, 2015, 04:19:35 PM
One pool allowed zero fees for a time in the past. Something like that should come again. These transactions took their time, but worked. You had to manually configure the fee's hight inside the config.
Mind saying the pools name? I guess most of the pools allow transactions with no fees to be inside the blocks. It's pretty much all about priority between transactions. You would have higher priority if you have higher coin age, fees and lower transaction size. But well, of course, the miners have the last say.
7334  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: escrow on: May 16, 2015, 01:11:49 PM
Everyone is giving great descriptions of escrow, but you may also want to know why it's needed.

Bitcoin is what's called non-reversible. Once you send it, it's gone! You can't get it back and there is nobody to complain to, unlike with credit cards or banks. For this reason you should be very sure you trust the party you're sending coins to before sending. If you're not sure if you can trust them (and there are a lot of scammers out there) it's safer to use escrow.
Other than it being non reversible, it is also pseudonymous. One can easily create an account to scam people and vanish into the thin air and the authorities will not bother with them at all. For banks, some of them allows transactions to be disputed. Without proof, the buyer will always win.
7335  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where to get highest free BTC? on: May 16, 2015, 01:07:33 PM
If you really want free BTC, you should go for faucets. There are several of them. Just search on google for 'BTC faucet' or 'bitcoin faucet'.

There is also the option of gambling, but in order to do that, you first need to buy BTC.

Faucets pay so very very little.  You can in most cases hope for a few cent's a hour.  It is sad, but it's true.

I suggest finding a signature campaign and joining it.   It will pay better then facet and also you would be posting anyways so win/win.  Just don't spam is the biggest thing.
It's is very hard to not spam if you aren't knowledgeable about something. Since this is a Bitcoin forum, newbies probably won't have much knowledge hence, not a good choice. One or two spam posts with signature campaign can easily result in a ban. The best bet is to offer service at the service section.

Gambling? Don't try. It is very risky. Once you start you probably can't stop. Eg. Just look at my address. But still, it was fun to gamble what I could afford to lose.

7337  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How i make full node on latest rasberry or C.H.I.P? on: May 16, 2015, 03:35:06 AM
Hello,

How i make full node "computer" to support BitCoin network? Latest rasberry computer or that C.H.I.P what arrives lately on markets?
Is it even possible to use C.H.I.P same purpose supporting BitCoin network? What parts C.H.I.P or latest rasberry needs to working properly on BitCoin network?  Shocked
Found a interesting post right here:https://m.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2yyb3u/how_to_run_a_full_bitcoin_node_on_a_raspberry_pi_2/. Do note that SD cards does not have great lifespan under heavy load. Your best bet would be to get a old hard disk and run it there. If you want, you can also purchase a new SSD/HDD and they can still be repurposed to be used as computer hard disk if you want in the near future. Statistics has shown that typical lifespan of HDD would be more than 4 years.
7338  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Let's say satoshi is cashing out 1million BTC on: May 16, 2015, 03:29:41 AM
So you can't possibly know if he sold them all to a trusted few.   Unless of course you are him the great satoshi. Just playing with us.

Satoshi's addresses have remained untouched, so the only way for such a trade to happen would be if he sold the actual private keys for the addresses and the buyer didn't move them immediately afterwards.

Since most of the coins are mined using various addresses that aren't affiliated with one another, there would be no way to prove that they belong to satoshi or others. There were no evidence that satoshi stopped mining right after 2009 and he could have mined throughout the years using other addresses. Satoshi has also made a transaction to hal finney so the addresses were not all untouched.
7339  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Difference between physical meetups and online exchanges on: May 16, 2015, 03:22:20 AM
These exchanges are hectic my man, apart from a anal probe, they have all my other information. ^Sob^
At a meetup, I can talk to someone and find out more about them. I always bring a friend for safety and they normally double as a witness.
I love people, and I have met incredible characters at these meetups. <From Fans to Fanatics>

I agree meeting in person can be great. I've met up at Starbucks and had great conversation after the trade, and also did a Satoshi Square gathering which was cool too (and at night). Remember though that BTC-e doesn't require anything other than an email to set up an account.
BTC-e requires verification only if you are depositing from a bank account. If the exchange is reputable, you would most probably have to verify your account at some point of time. Localbitcoins is the only way to be truly anonymous to get Bitcoins via bank deposits.
7340  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Robocoin on: May 16, 2015, 03:18:52 AM
This is what I was wondering about, the website made it look like you setup a wallet before you come in and boom insta cash out.
Before the wallet I would go in scan my phone with the QR code and wait around 10 minutes. Last time I did this I saw a guy do the same but he bought a coffee and proceeded to cash out all in 2 minutes. Might have been a rep or something I guess.

Will give it a shot at the end of the month and come back with a update.
IIRC, robocoin requires confirmations before allowing the user to cash it out. If the confirmation is fast, then it would be ready for cashing out instantly, if it's not, I'm afraid it would take sometime. But overall, robocoin is pretty smooth in cashing out and buying Bitcoins.
