7361  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: is my private key compromised with reusing of adresses? on: November 26, 2017, 11:05:20 PM
I never used Trezor or anything that creates a wallet throught a seed. Does it have something called "Coin Control"?
You can simply use your Trezor (or Nano S) with Electrum if you need coin control...

Quote
One of the main reasons Bitcoin Core is the best wallet out there is that it has maximun control over inputs and outputs. So If you recieved for example 20 transactions of 0.05 each for a total of 1 BTC, and each of these were received in 20 different addresses, and you wanted to send that 1 BTC at once, like you said, someone could see that you own all of these 20 addresses. This is of course bad for privacy, so with Coin Control feature you could select the inputs and send them separately. Of course, this sucks because you must send 20 times 0.05, paying a fee each time, but there's nothing else you could do that I know of. This is the known problem of Bitcoin's lack of fungibility, which hopefully gets fixed somehow some day.
Your idea of sending 20 different transactions is arguably only slightly better privacy-wise than sending 1 transaction... UNLESS you send each of those 20 transactions to a different address. Otherwise, you are effectively linking all 20 transactions anyway by sending to 1 address. Granted, it makes it more difficult to prove that all 20 are actually controlled by one person (ie. You) but the link is still there.

Another option is to send your 20 transactions to a mixer and then combine them all into one outgoing transaction from there.... Or use Monero Wink Tongue
7362  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano S and Trezor derivation paths for BCH and BTG on: November 26, 2017, 10:48:49 PM
Hi,

can you please tell me what are the derivation paths for Bitcoin Cash and Gold in Trezor and Ledger Nano S? I don't seem to be able to google that info.

It is critical for me (before I move the founds) that I don't get dependant on any one vendor and in case of hardware failure I can recreate the wallet on the other device.

Marginal note is that it is very strange or maybe even suspicious  that the HW manufacturers don't openly publish that information

As far as I'm aware... they use the standard BIP44 derivation paths... refer: https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0044.mediawiki#path-levels
Quote
We define the following 5 levels in BIP32 path:
m / purpose' / coin_type' / account' / change / address_index

Purpose' (for BIP44 hardware wallets) is generally always 44'... coin_type' is specific to each coin... refer: https://github.com/satoshilabs/slips/blob/master/slip-0044.md for all the "Registered" Coin types...
Quote
145   0x80000091   Bitcoin Cash
.....
156   0x8000009c   Bitcoin Gold

So they should be m/44'/145'/0'/ and m/44'/156'/0' for Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin Gold respectively (for the main account). Any extra "accounts" in your Ledger or Trezor wallet will use incrementing account' values like m/44'/145'/1', m/44'/145'/2' etc

Marginal Note: Ledger actually tell you what it is in the wallet, it is just a bit buried (and Trezor aka Satoshilabs are the ones maintaining the register of coin types! Wink):

You need to select the account from the initial "Overview" window, then click "account settings":

7363  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor sending currency password? on: November 26, 2017, 10:34:53 PM
Hello, I bought a trezor wallet a while ago now I was wondering if it has a option to add a extra password just to send funds across? Just like blockchain.info has, please let me know thanks.
You're asking about the "2nd password" functionality that b.info has right?

That isn't really required with a Trezor... as you need both physical access so transactions can actually be sent to the device for signing and to push the confirm button, the PIN to unlock the device in the first place (and, if set, a passphrase to "generate" the correct wallet)... There really is no need for an EXTRA password on top of all that! Wink Tongue
7364  Other / MultiBit / Re: Multibit v0.5 transaction not being confirmed HELP will pay you! on: November 26, 2017, 10:21:15 PM
Pretty much ignore what MultiBit is doing... both MultiBit Classic and MultiBit HD are very old, outdated and no longer supported. Chances are that your transaction has not propagated through the network due to lack of peers and the low "fixed" fees that MBC and MBHD use.

I would suggest the following:

If using MultiBit Classic, simply export your private key(s) from MBC and import them into Electrum (https://electrum.org/#download)

You can find the "MBC to Electrum" tutorial video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaijbTcxsv8

If you were using MultiBit HD, simply restore your MBHD wallet seed into Electrum (https://electrum.org/#download)

You can find the "MBHD to Electrum" tutorial video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-KcY6KUVnY

(NOTE: if you have an older version of Windows ie. Win7/8, you will need to use Electrum 2.9.3, available from here: https://download.electrum.org/2.9.3/ )

Once you have your wallet successfully imported into Electrum you should be able to see all your transaction history, addresses and coins and you should be able to send your bitcoins to b.info as required.

Are you using MultiBit "Classic" or MultiBit "HD"?

7366  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do Not Use Electron Cash! on: November 26, 2017, 10:06:04 PM
Tha bad thing about Electron Cash is that it does NOT allow you to redeem the BCC from the BTCs that you were helding in a Electrum multisig address.
If that Electrum MultiSig was actually an Electrum 2FA wallet... you CAN get it out... relatively easily too... you just restore the wallet from seed and use "disable" when asked if you want to keep or disable 2FA functionality. It will then let you sign and broadcast transactions without requiring TrustedCoin.

If it was a normal MultiSig, you can still get it out... in fact, I thought they'd actually fixed it so that MultiSigs worked correctly without any issues? Huh
7367  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Matching addresses on 3 blockchains on: November 26, 2017, 09:49:18 PM
So if I do this:

1) Empty my BTC wallet.dat and send to a new wallet.dat
2) Use my empty wallet.dat in the Bitcoin ABC client to access BCH and sell them or move them to a new BCH wallet if I want to hold them so they don't match addresses (it just makes me nervous knowing I have the BTC and BCH sitting on the same private keys on different blockchains for some reason, I want this separated)
3) Use this same wallet.dat I used for Bitcoin ABC that is empty (not after accessing BCH but before) into some Bitcoin Gold wallet (im not going to bother syncing a full Bitcoin Gold node to be honest, so I may use Coinomi, since it's empty keys in the BTC blockchain and I already emptied BCH, I could now access the BTG safely)

I THINK i got it right.

But there is more: Bitcoin Diamond, Bitcoin Silver, Bitcoin.... it's a nightmare. Im tired of having to move my cold storage to access these forks.
You don't need to move the BCH in Step 2... your BTC is already on different private keys as you moved it to a completely new wallet in step 1! Wink Although, you might want to move it if you're concerned about then claiming BTG and having BCH and BTG on same keys.

And good luck finding a reliable BTG wallet that isn't BitcoinGold Core Roll Eyes Lot's of scams... and Coinomi requires doing private keys one by one... you can't just import a wallet.dat.

I wouldn't be concerned about Bitcoin Diamond... its a joke at best... a complete scam at worst... https://medium.com/@btcblooddiamond/bitcoin-diamond-is-a-scam-of-epic-proportions-7d7908c43c22

All the "trading" is simply "futures" trading on a few shit exchanges like exx and binance etc... you can't withdraw, you can't deposit and there is NO BCD blockchain, no wallet, no "mainnet"... hell as far as anyone can tell, there isn't ANY code... just a website and a dead twitter/facebook Roll Eyes
7368  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: tokens.txt or tokenlist tokens.txt on: November 26, 2017, 09:40:02 PM
You mean it says something like "password already found, password = foobar" or something like that? Or you mean the script just won't run? Huh

I vaguely remember reading in the docs that btcrecover has the ability to "remember" it's current progress for a particular search... so if you're searching say 3,000,000,000 passphrases... you can stop it, and it will start again from where you stopped it.

So, it's possible that it has recorded the "progress" for that particular wallet file, so when you try to run it again, it just gives you the password.

Just when you thought the BTG team couldn't be more incompetent...
Seems it just got worse too... they've expanded the "recall" window... it looks like the "suspicious" file was there for 4.5 days... instead of the 1.5 days they originally quoted Shocked Undecided
7370  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Btc cash shows as 0$ when i should have around 7000$ on: November 26, 2017, 09:26:18 PM
Maybe we are saying the same thing Tongue
Sort of... but in a slightly different way... some folks have had issues with trying to restore the 2FA wallet directly in ElectronCash... hence why I recommend restoring it in Electrum first (as "Disable") and then copying the restored (but disabled) 2FA wallet from Electrum to ElectronCash.

If restoring the 2FA wallet directly in ElectronCash works for you... then bonus! Smiley
7371  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: pywallet install help on: November 26, 2017, 09:02:56 PM
I ran another recover but added a couple of variations on the password. This is the result i got but i have a feeling i still won't be able to run the dat file in core, or dump it like before. Notice that as it ran the recovery every one of the keys was shown on screen, but i can't scroll back to top of screen to look at them all. I tried to dump the wallet with the new python and packages installed, but it gave the same result as before. I will try to dump this result later sometime, please see screenshots below for new recovery results. Thanks. Smiley

Got recovered wallet to run with "If that doesn't work... try starting Bitcoin Core with -usehd=0 command" but i'm thinking i will have to do a rescan, how would i add that command on to core startup. Thanks. ps no rush i know your busy. Smiley (edit again!) i added rescan option and waiting for it to finish.

Ok, so it looks like the recovery is working the way it should... I get something similar... a MASSIVE output of all the keys/addresses etc just like your screenshot... So that is a good start Smiley

I am still not sure why your --dumpwallet command is not working tho?? Huh PyWallet created the file, I don't understand why it can't dump it out... it is very odd! Undecided Huh

Seems you may need to specify the --datadir or actually BE in the same directory as the wallet file? So maybe try:
Code:
pywallet.py --dumpwallet --wallet=C:\Users\Catherine\Downloads\pywallet\recovered_wallet_1511695449.dat --passphrase="YOUR-PASS-PHRASE" --datadir=C:\Users\Catherine\Downloads\pywallet

Anyway, hopefully that won't be necessary since you managed to get it running with the -usehd=0 command... fingers crossed the "rescan" will show *something* for all those keys/addresses. Wink
7372  Other / MultiBit / Re: Reviving Multibit? on: November 26, 2017, 10:50:28 AM
Basically... because MultiBit HD looked "pretty".

It had the nice rounded corners and fancy UI that people like... right up until they got the "password did not unlock the wallet" bug... or their transaction got stuck because they couldn't set a fee any higher than 50 sats/byte... or they lost their seed backup, and discovered there was no simple way to get the app to tell you what it was... or the way it would randomly decide to make your transactions "unconfirmed"... Roll Eyes

I've seen so many people complain about the way Electrum looks... and sure, the UI is a bit "Win95"... but at least the wallet works... and the dev actually gives a shit about it Tongue
7373  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How safe are my bitcoins? on: November 26, 2017, 10:15:30 AM
Yet it is recommended to not use it on the same device you have Electrum (for BTC), because their directories might be in conflict.
I think you're thinking of the issues between Bitcoin Core and Bitcoin ABC... Where Bitcoin ABC defaults to installing and using the EXACT same directories as Bitcoin Core (including program install and data directories Undecided)... However, ElectronCash uses completely different directory locations than Electrum. It is perfectly fine to run both on the same computer... you can even have them open at the same time.

There was a minor incident with the first release, where it would auto copy over Electrum wallets, but after a public outcry, the devs changed it so that it doesn't do that anymore.
7374  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How to claim BItcoin diamond and BTG?anyone help? on: November 26, 2017, 10:09:12 AM
You have either a MultiSig or a 2FA wallet (I'll go ahead and guess 2FA?)...

At the moment, the process for claiming BTG is SUPER technical for people who have their coins in Electrum MultiSig or 2FA wallets... you have to extract all your keys (NOTE: You can NOT simply right click on the address and go export keys!)... then you need to manually craft a transaction... and then finally sign it with BitcoinGold Core.

Hopefully someone will release a BTG compatible version of Electrum soon... and all the people with coins in MultiSig and 2FA wallets will be able to get their coins.

There is no expiration date... the coins will sit on those addresses until moved.

As for BCD, honestly... I've not seen anything that makes me think that fork will ever eventuate to anything... Anonymous dev team... no links to source on github... facebook looks dead... no one seems to know anything about it...

EDIT: in fact, it looks like a scam: https://medium.com/@btcblooddiamond/bitcoin-diamond-is-a-scam-of-epic-proportions-7d7908c43c22
7375  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Can't Connect - Version 3.0.2 (Windows 7) on: November 26, 2017, 09:50:06 AM
Wait... You have the proxy switched on? Are you actually running through a proxy? By default, all that is set on that page is "Use SSL"... "Use Proxy" should be unchecked.

Also, what server are you attempting to connect to? I'm currently using electrum.achow101.com, port is 50002.
7376  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: BCH transfer to Ledger Nano S on: November 26, 2017, 09:44:24 AM
What blockchain does it say you're connected to?

In any case, it sounds like you may have clicked the "remember my choice" box on the blockchain selection screen. Try clicking "Settings -> Blockchains"... that will allow you to select BTC or BCH (then Legacy or SegWit) etc...

7377  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Can't Connect - Version 3.0.2 (Windows 7) on: November 26, 2017, 04:15:05 AM
How long are you leaving it when you start it up?

Electrum needs to download about 38megs worth of blockchain_headers during first load... unfortunately, it doesn't really indicate that it is doing this, it'll just sit there with the "red" circle showing. Last time I did this from scratch, it took 10+ minutes (even with a 2meg internet connection)...

Check your Electrum Datadir (C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Electrum on Windows)... and see how big the blockchain_headers file is... and/or just open Electrum and let it "sit" for a good 10-15 minutes to give it time to sync up.

It could also be that your network is preventing connection... have you checked your firewall settings?
7378  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger nano S or Trezor T? on: November 26, 2017, 03:56:43 AM
I like the fact you can use many coins on ledger but then you need multiple devices if use more then 3 apps. I wasn't aware so very good to know!
No, you don't... you can add and remove apps at will... One device is enough to manage all the supported coins. I currently have 5 "apps" on my Ledger Nano S... Bitcoin, Bitcoin Gold, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Dash and if I want to go use something else (like Ethereum for instance), I simply uninstall one of the apps and install the app I need for the currency I want to use. Takes all of 30 seconds.

Seriously, if you need access to more than 4 or 5 currencies simultaneously with a hardware wallet... you're trading wrong and probably spending a ton on transaction fees Roll Eyes
7379  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Newly Generated Wallet has Bitcoin in balalnce on: November 26, 2017, 03:50:49 AM
Can you post the address... and a signed message from that address proving that you actually have ownership of it?

The odds of this being real are pretty small... if true, congrats, you just "broke" BTC Tongue

Sunday, November 26, 2017, 01:00, UTC
Please be aware that for approximately 36 hours, a link on our Download page and the file downloads on our Github release page have been serving a suspicious file of unknown origin.

Seems someone put a "suspicious" file on their download servers/github... Anyone who downloaded the BitcoinGold Windows client in the last 2 days should take immediate action as suggested by the devs... remove the file and treat your computer as possibly compromised.

Read the post full here: https://bitcoingold.org/critical-warning-nov-26/

EDIT: They've since expanded the warning period to 4.5 days... instead of the original 1.5 days! Shocked
